  I need some help, and before we get going, I know it is probably not best practice, but I am doing some maintenance to an existing site and need to accomplish the following for a fix. <a rel="lightbox" href="site.com" title="a generated title"><img src="site.com/img" class="post-image" alt="a long description"/></a> Okay, so I am trying to figure out how to use jQuery or any other method to take the "alt" attribute from my image, and dynamically overwrite the "title" attribute of my "a" tag. Any help would be awesome, I am kinda lost at this juncture.

• why the hell does x,y = zip(*zip(a,b)) work in Python?

  OK I love Python's zip() function. Use it all the time, it's brilliant. Every now and again I want to do the opposite of zip(), think "I used to know how to do that", then google python unzip, then remember that one uses this magical * to unzip a zipped list of tuples. Like this: x = [1,2,3] y = [4,5,6] zipped = zip(x,y) unzipped_x, unzipped_y = zip(*zipped) unzipped_x Out[30]: (1, 2, 3) unzipped_y Out[31]: (4, 5, 6) What on earth is going on? What is that magical asterisk doing? Where else can it be applied and what other amazing awesome things in Python are so mysterious and hard to google?

• Best way to auto-restore db on an houlry basis

  Hello, I have a demo site where anyone can login and test a management interface. Every hour I would like to flush all the data in the SQL 2008 Database and restore it from the original. Rae Gate sql has some awesome tools for this, however they are beyond my budget right now. Could I simply make a backup copy of the database's data file, then have a c# console app that deletes it and copies over the original. Then I can have a windows schedule task to run the .exe every hour. It's simple and free... would this work? I'm using SQL Server 2008 R2 Web edition I understand that red gate is technically better because I can set it to analyze the db and only update the records that were altered, and the approach I have above is like a "sledge hammer".

• actionscript 3.0 garbage collection with casalib ?

  I would love to see an actual example how to use the casalib-garbage-collection. I used the destroy method like in the description: casa-lib description If I have a Loader in a Subclass, do I also have to use the CasaLibLoader? Do I have still to care about all Instances/Eventlisteners to do proper garbage collection? If yes, whats the advantage of casalib-garbage-collection? I assumed to call destroy on a Casalib-Sprite and then it would destroy all its subclasses and references, and therefore safe memory. It would be awesome to get an easy instruction.   We all seen a bunch of these? Mostly for IDE's but also for vim and emacs. Kate is (only) a text editor (an awesome one) but it has a ton of options plus a number of plugins, so its hard to know all of it well. How do use the Kate text editor? Please share your workflow and help me and others learn some of the cool tricks you use. I'll start I use the built in terminal a lot opening files quickly, and using it as an enhanced haskell repl with ghci (since ghci doesn't allow you all to just put in all kinds of haskell code). Also use split views to quickly compare files (especially different versions of the same file). Also the auto-complete maybe simple(more use for saving typing time then remembering functions) but it works really well for that. Also if You highlight something and hit a start [/{/( it puts it in between brackets rather then replacing it with a bracket(why the hell do a lot of IDEs not have this feature).

• Opencart not working

  I can go to http://www.sunnybrookfs.com/sstore/upload/ and it works awesome. But when I change the physical path in the basic settings for this website in the iis manager to the sstore/upload/ directory only text shows up. No images can be found or css style sheets. So basically www. sunnybrookfs. com/ goes to my xampp page, then I can access my OpenCart by going to http://www.sunnybrookfs.com/sstore/upload/. If I want www.sunnybrookfs.com to point to my store it does not work. Any suggestions? Thank you.

• How do I create an ImageView in java code, within an existing Layout?

  I'm looking for an easy way for the user to see how many drinks they've had for a BAC calculator. PICTURE OF THE APP, for reference On button press, I would like an image to be added to the screen, directly under the spinner and with left alignment. When I press the button again, I want another image to be added to the screen. So if I pressed the add beer button, a drawable of a beer would appear below the spinner. If I pressed the add beer button again, I want there to be TWO drawables of beers under the spinner, preferably with them being added from the right. (Also, having them reach their width limit, wrapping around, and starting again on the left, but below a full line, would be AWESOME) I can't figure out how to do this. I assume adding a ImageView in code to a relative layout (because it needs to be positioned to the right) would be the best route, but if it's possible in xml I'd be more than happy to use that. Any help?

• How to achieve multiple grids like the SQL server Results pane

  Hi guys ! I'm having problems with my project once again :( The front end is C# I need to support multiline querying like MS SQL server and when these queries are executed, naturally there are going to be multiple result sets. Getting the datatables respective to the results is not a problem, but how do i make it appear like its done in MS SQL server. One result set below the other and with a scroll bar? Should i bind it to a datagrid? If so how can i bind multiple tables to a datagrid ? and will it generate the scrollbars and the columns automatically? If i am not clear, please let me know and i'll try to be more clearer. ps: If anyone knows how this can be done with the XtraGridControl in devexpress that would be awesome ! :D

• rails wiki site - article edit highlighting/strikethrough with htmldiff maxes cpu

  Hi I'm implementing a wiki style site and want to highlight changes made to articles between successive versions. Using htmldiff to highlight changes works great, except it is rather cpu intensive. I'm using the awesome vestal_versions plugin for versioning. So how best to handle this? I considered having an on_create callback on version creation create a delayed job that processes and then stores the htmldiff processed article (in the version table row). If this is a good approach, how can I extend vestal_versions without touching the gem? Or maybe there would be a better approach. Any advice is much appreciated. :)

  i am trying to write a plugin which rewrites "post_link", "page_link", "category_link", "tag_link" with an action hook on wordpress. it's similar to this: add_action("post_link", "the_rewrite_function"); function the_rewrite_function($link) { ... return $new_link; } for example the permalink to the post is: http://www.example.com/2010/11/11/the-post-name/ i am changing it with the function to: http://www.example.com/2010/11/11/the-awesome-post-name/ of course when i do this the new permalink is going to 404 (as expected) what can i do to make the new permalink go to the original and working one? Please consider this: it should work on any permalink structure so a permalink structure spesific solution won't do any good. i need to solve this inside the plugin. thanks!

  Hi folks, I recently wrote a simple and tiny embedded HTTP server for my C++ app (QT) and I played a little bit with Ry's http-parser and loved it. This guy is crazy. So I told to myself: "Hey! Why not port the django template engine to C?" That'd be awesome! I know, it won't be an easy task (not at all, I know) but I'd really love to implement this. So I came here for inspiration, ideas, opinions... I'd really love to have some pointers on the subject, ideas, what is already done, which major problems I'll encounter (and how to solve them) - How not to reinvent the wheel... anyway, you got the idea :) Thanks a million times!   Hey guys im in a very confused state of mind at the moment and need some help with Word Press and generally starting a website. My parents have had a business for 20 years and have finally decided to get a website! As im studying IT and Business i said id get it done for them. Rather than design it from scratch i used a template which i bought from themeforest.net (awesome template!) and yesterday a friend mentioned in passing using word press as a CMS which i had never heard of before, and he left before i could ask any questions. SO basically i have a site working on my computer and i have no idea how to get it live as a .com or .com.au, so far as i can see wordpress is a blog with .wordpress.com which isnt what im looking for.   I noticed it is possible to set the value of a jQuery UI slider in the following way: $("#mySlider").slider("value", 42); This triggers the event handlers attached to the slider as expected. Now I'm trying to do the same trick using a button (toggle). There does not appear to be a nice way to do this in the API. I might just be missing something simple. I tried the following with no results: $("#myButton").button().click(); Any ideas how to handle that in this case are welcome. Note that it would be awesome to find a solution that applies for a buttonset as well.

• How would the 'Model' in a Rails-type webapp be implemented in a functional programming langauge?

  In MVC web development frameworks such as Ruby on Rails, Django, and CakePHP, HTTP requests are routed to controllers, which fetch objects which are usually persisted to a backend database store. These objects represent things like users, blog posts, etc., and often contain logic within their methods for permissions, fetching and/or mutating other objects, validation, etc. These frameworks are all very much object oriented. I've been reading up recently on functional programming and it seems to tout tremendous benefits such as testability, conciseness, modularity, etc. However most of the examples I've seen for functional programming implement trivial functionality like quicksort or the fibonnacci sequence, not complex webapps. I've looked at a few 'functional' web frameworks, and they all seem to implement the view and controller just fine, but largely skip over the whole 'model' and 'persistence' part. (I'm talking more about frameworks like Compojure which are supposed to be purely functional, versus something Lift which conveniently seems to use the OO part of Scala for the model -- but correct me if I'm wrong here.) I haven't seen a good explanation of how functional programming can be used to provide the metaphor that OO programming provides, i.e. tables map to objects, and objects can have methods which provide powerful, encapsulated logic such as permissioning and validation. Also the whole concept of using SQL queries to persist data seems to violate the whole 'side effects' concept. Could someone provide an explanation of how the 'model' layer would be implemented in a functionally programmed web framework?

• C# pulling out columns from combobox text

  What i have is four comboboxes and two files. If the column matches the combobox i need to write it out to a file but it has to appened with the second combobox. So for example Combobox1: Apple | Orange Combobox2: Pineapple | Plum I have selected Apple Plum I need to search threw a text file and find whatever columns is Apple or Plum: Orange|Pear|Peach|Turnip|Monkey|Apple|Grape|Plum and then i need to write out just the columns Apple|Plum to a new text file. • vb.net array for slideshow button

  Hey all, i am in the middle of trying to figure out how to go about doing this... I have a form that i call like so: call frmSlideShow.showWhat(1,4,8,9,11,22) Each of the numbers represents a different image slide (slide1.png, slide4.png, etc..). The problem i am having is trying to create a "previous" and "next" button to flip through them all. Trying to figure out what number the user is on and going from there and seeing what numbers are still left from the list above that was sent, etc. If anyone has an idea how i would go about doing that then that would be awesome! :) David

• Should a new language compiler target the JVM?

  I'm developing a new language. My initial target was to compile to native x86 for the Windows platform, but now I am in doubt. I've seen some new languages target the JVM (most notable Scala and Clojure). Ofcourse it's not possible to port every language easily to the JVM; to do so, it may lead to small changes to the language and it's design. So that's the reason behind this doubt, and thus this question: Is targetting the JVM a good idea, when creating a compiler for a new language? Or should I stick with x86? I have experience in generating JVM bytecode. Are there any workarounds to JVM's GC? The language has deterministic implicit memory management. How to produce JIT-compatible bytecode, such that it will get the highest speedup? Is it similar to compiling for IA-32, such as the 4-1-1 muops pattern on Pentium? I can imagine some advantages (please correct me if I'm wrong): JVM bytecode is easier than x86. Like x86 communicates with Windows, JVM communicates with the Java Foundation Classes. To provide I/O, Threading, GUI, etc. Implementing "lightweight"-threads.I've seen a very clever implementation of this at http://www.malhar.net/sriram/kilim/. Most advantages of the Java Runtime (portability, etc.) The disadvantages, as I imagined, are: Less freedom? On x86 it'll be more easy to create low-level constructs, while JVM has a higher level (more abstract) processor. Most disadvantages of the Java Runtime (no native dynamic typing, etc.)

• Wicket Drag and drop functionality for adding an image

  I'm making a wicket app that can manage some options for a cashdesk app. One of the options is to change the image of a selected Product. The user(manager) can choose from the already present images in the database (SQL) when this option is selected, or add a new image if the desired image is not present. Don't mention the test names and awesome images (it's still in test-fase) I prefer to see the adding of an image achieved by Drag and Drop html5 demo [dnd-upload] (From the desktop into the browser) I'm currently using Wicket-6.2.0 and wicket-dnd 0.5.0 and i can't seem to get this working! All examples I can find are from wicket 2.x or lower. It is possible to use drag and drop in Wicket-6.2, but how do I achieve this? There seems to be some DraggableBehavior in wicket?   Visual studio is a pretty awesome IDE, but sometimes you just wish it would go faster. I was wondering if people have any tips or tricks to help speed up visual studio in day to day use. Things that I'm particularly interested in are speeding up build times and switching aspx files from source to design view seem to bring it to a grinding halt.   Hey i am trying to calculate a cosinor analysis in statistica but am at a loss as to how to do so.
