• Alternatives to OAuth?

  The Web industry is shifting / has shifted towards using OAuth when extending API services to external consumers & developers. There is some elegance in simple....and well, the 3-step OAuth process isn't too bad ... i just find it is the best of a bad bunch of options. Are there alternatives out there that could be better, and more secure? • Trying to boot from USB on Asus q200e-bhi3t45 just brings me to grub menu

  It's been a struggle every time I've tried to change my OS on this machine. I honestly don't even know how it works whenever it does. I've somehow managed to get Windows 7, Windows 8, Mint 14, Ubuntu 12.04, and 12.10 to work at random times but it's always after struggling with it and googling for random chance fixes and suddenly something clicks and it loads from usb, but 99% of the time, every time I try to boot from USB to install a distro (in this case, I'm trying to get ubuntu-12.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso to work) my pc just comes up with a grub menu ("Minimal bash-like blahblahblah - grub ") I don't know why it works when it works. Right now I've tried everything from with/without Fast Boot in BIOS, with/without CSM, with/without secure boot, to changing BOOTx64.EFI to bootx64.efi to downloading a new bootx64.efi to copying it to every folder on the usb.... It makes no sense to me. Sorry if this has been asked before but I can't find anything

  I am currently running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 on my laptop. I would like to install more than one Linux distro, IN ADDITION TO Windows 7. How do I go about this, what do I need to be careful and aware of, is it possible? The specific distros I might eventually install: Definitely: Ubuntu (is it a good idea to install the Linux-Secure-Remix version?) Almost definitely: OpenSUSE Probably: Zorin Possibly: Arch Possibly: Fedora Possibly: FreeBSD Computer details: Successfully used WUBI for Ubuntu in the past Recently reinstalled Windows using the RECOVERY partition Windows 7 Home Premium x64 model: ASUS K53U series AMD Brazos Dual Core E450 1.65 GHz 750GB hard drive, currently partitioned into C: (300GB total, 246 GB free), D: (373GB - total, 167 GB free), and RECOVERY (the rest of the space, I think) 4GB RAM Can I be sure that GRUB will work, if WUBI has worked? In short, how do I go about triple- or quadruple-booting Windows 7, Ubuntu and other distros? What do I need to be aware of? How do I set up the partition structure? Thank you in advance

But how can you fix this? If there stands www.example.com/index.php it works but if you surf to www.example.com I get this message.

• https (SSL) instead of http

  I am building myself a new website, out of privacy and security concerns I am contemplating trying to make it https only. It will be mobile-friendly using media queries but I am concerned--especially for mobile users--about the increased bandwidth. How much will doing so increase my bandwidth or slow load times? For pages where I'm not transferring sensitive information, should I leave external links (to a jQuery library, or a web font for instance) in http? Simply put, I have read articles saying the entire web would be more secure if everything was SSL but my actual knowledge of implementation is limited to payment gateways and log-in pages and such. I apologize for the open-ended nature of the question but anything, even just simple answers to the specific questions is welcomed.

• Business applications suck, is there anything else out there?

  It seems most of the work is in business is applications like inventory, sales, banks, medical, human resources, government, insurance, document processing, file archiving etc. Would you agree? From my point of view business applications seem to occupy over 90% of the job offerings(because no one wants to work on those?). Furthermore, each big app I have worked on, the application itself sucked, like being paid in compensation for putting up with a bad code base and product. Seeing how those business apps seem to occupy most of the market, should one accept that this is just the sad reality of this business? Do you get to develop on projects that are more dynamic than those?

• Unable to boot to Ubuntu

  Just got a new laptop and removed Windows 8 and installed 13.10 using LiveUSB. Initially it was booting to "No boot media" but I was able to resolve it with boot-repair. I realized some of the items I need isn't supported on 13.10, so attempted to install 13.04 instead. Now without LiveUSB, the laptop just boots to "No boot media" but boot repair doesn't seem to be fixing it. Tried going back to 13.10, but no dice. After boot repair it says "Please do not forget to make your BIOS boot on sda1/EFI/ubuntu/grubx64.efi file!". GParted shows sda1 has the boot flag. Using Toshiba Satellite P50. Secure Boot disabled. UEFI enabled. Any help would be highly appreciated. http://paste.ubuntu.com/6366556/

  A few years ago, I felt privileged to be involved in a mature open-source project where my salary was paid by a government research grant. As it turned out, I was ill-equipped for this three-month contract which included some very stressful network support in a medical setting and, to add to that, the project was poorly managed with poor lines of communication. My dream job had suddenly become a nightmare. Never, in my experience, though, did I learn as much about programming in as short a period of time. Psychologically, the only way through this episode in my life was for me to actively look for the good in things and focus on my love of programming.   Hi, Anyone has pointers on how to get real time US gas station feeds via webservice ? I'm trying to develop an iphone app that give users real time gas station price near their location. Currently i was wondering is there a legit government service that produce real time gas station price in the US on a daily basis? I heard about http://gasbuddy.com/ but i don't know where they get the data source from and was not sure if i should base on their data as well. On the other hand, there is a bunch of iphone apps on the apple store that show the gas price info. I'm clueless on how did the developers got their source from to get the nearest gas station price locations. Anyone has any suggestion? Thanks for the info :- )

I'm a novice php programmer, so while my application seems to work well, there may be inefficiencies or security vulnerabilities. • Changed profiles; lost Ubuntu; how do I get it back?

  Installed Ubuntu-secure-remix 12.10 in a dual boot with Windows 8 on an HP laptop. A first-time Linux user, I was exploring settings when I changed profiles (not sure what I changed it to). Now the Linux boots into what I believe is the shell. I can still log in (that is, I am already a user - so that's still there). Due possibly to using rEFInd, I cannot figure how to run Ubuntu in recovery mode. How can I get Ubuntu back up and running again? Thanks in advance.

  Some of my recent clients are asking for remote connections to the office server, for standalone work, etc, in winForm applications. Since the concept of the web is remote connection to a server both of data and resources, it should be possible to place both of this in cloud and have the winForm apps connect to it as if web Apps. As any one tested this, is working like this? Is it fast enough? Is it secure? What is the best cloud host for this type of work ?

How to use the US Windows Store from Another Country Press the Win + X keyboard combination, or right click in the bottom left hand corner of your screen to open the WinX menu, then launch the Control Panel. Now change the Control Panel’s view to the Small icons view. Then head into the Region settings. When the Region settings open you will need to switch over to the Location tab. Here you will be able to see the location that the Windows Store, as well as other applications , is using. You can change it by simply selecting United States from the drop down. • Need private personal access to ~three PHP pages

  I would like secure access to the text output by three PHP scripts (the text output is JavaScript and html) . The security level is much less then financial data but important none-the-less. I have considered purchasing AND studying https and SSL certificates. Hostgator charges an extra $2/month for a private ip plus $50+ anually for a certificate. This is more then I want to spend for this project (time + money). Is there a simpler solution that is: less expensive easier to implement. I'm open to different approaches.

• No sound/audio after resuming from sleep

  I've made a fresh UEFI install of Ubuntu 13.10 (64 bit) on a Lenovo Ideapad Z510 laptop with Intel i5 4200M processor. Ubuntu is the only OS installed on the computer, secure boot disabled. Everythings works fine (backlight issue fixed after editing rc.local file), the only minor trouble I have is resuming the laptop from "sleep" mode. If I close the lid and then wake the laptop opening it again, there is no audio/sound. I need to restart the computer (not even logging out helps). If I suspend the computer in a graphical way (not closing the lid): gearwheel in top right of the screen -- suspend and wake it up/turning on, audio works with no issues. Ideas how to fix this? Thanks!

• Safest way (i.e. HTTPS, POST, PGP) to send decryption keys through the web?

  I am in the final stages of development for my Revit plugin. This plugin is programmed in C#, and distributed via a DLL. One of the DLLs is an encrypted SQLite database (with proprietary data) that is in the form of a DLL. Currently, in development stages, the decryption key for the SQLite database is hardcoded in my main DLL (the program's DLL). For distribution, since DLLs are easily decompilable, I am in need of a new method to decrypt the DLL. My solution is to send our decryption keys from our servers securely to the host's computer. I was looking in POST, thinking it was more secure than GET, but upon research, it appears it's similarly insecure, only more "obscure" than GET. I also looked into HTTPS, but Hostgator requires extra money for HTTPS use. I am in need of some advice - are there any custom solutions I can do to implement this?

• Is it possible to boot Ubuntu using the Windows bootloader?

  As noted by many people, Windows 8's UEFI requirements might will won't get in the way of installing Linux (or whatever), as the replacement bootloader will also need to be signed somehow. Some systems All systems will let you disable the signature requirement, but the feature might be hidden to disable or you might not be willing to give up on the benefits of a secure bootloader. Is it necessary to replace the bootloader in the first place? To keep ourselves to software that's gone golden, how can I install Ubuntu 11.04 using Windows 7's own bootloader?
