  • There has to be an easier way.. pulling data from mysql

    - by Daniel Hunter
I need to pull 3 values from a table and assign each one to a variable each value is based on to columns, a type and an id $ht_live_query = mysql_query("SELECT htcode FROM coupon WHERE pid='$pid' AND type='L'"); $ht_live_result = mysql_fetch_array($ht_live_query); $htCODE_Live = $ht_live_result['htcode']; You can see that I am assigning the desired value to the variable $htL $ht_General_query = mysql_query("SELECT htcode FROM coupon WHERE pid='$pid' AND type='G'"); $ht_General_result = mysql_fetch_array($ht_General_query); $htCODE_General = $ht_General_result['htcode']; $ht_Reward_query = mysql_query("SELECT htcode FROM coupon WHERE pid='$pid' AND type='R'"); $ht_Reward_result = mysql_fetch_array($ht_Reward_query); $htCODE_Reward = $ht_Reward_result ['htcode']; I know I am doing this the hard way but can not figure out how to do the foreach or while loop to attain the desired results.

  • What's the difference between /123 and /?123?

    - by BoltClock
I've noticed that some sites (including http://jobs.stackoverflow.com) have query strings that look like this: http://somewebapp.example/?123 as compared to: http://somewebapp.example/123 or http://somewebapp.example/id/123 What are the reasons that developers choose to implement their web apps' URLs using the first example instead of the second and third examples? And as a bonus, how would one implement the first example in PHP, given that 123 is the primary key of some row in a database table? (I just need to know how to retrieve 123 from the URL; I already know how to query the database for a primary key of 123.)

  • LinqToSql: How can I create a projection to adhere to DRY?

    - by mhutter
Just wondering if there is a way to take some of the repitition out of a LINQ to SQL projected type. Example: Table: Address Fields: AddressID, HouseNumber, Street, City, State, Zip, +20 more Class MyAddress: AddressID, HouseNumber, Street (Only 3 fields) LINQ: from a in db.Addresses select new MyAddress { AddressID = a.AddressID, HouseNumber = a.HouseNumber, Street = a.Street } The above query works perfectly, and I understand why something like this will return all 20+ fields in each row: from a in db.Addresses select new MyAddress(a); class MyAddress { public MyAddress(Address a) { this.AddressID = a.AddressID, this.HouseNumber = a.HouseNumber, this.Street = a.Street } } Which leads me to my Question: Is it possible to implement some kind of helper function or extension method to "map" from the LINQ model to MyAddress yet only return the necessary fields in the query result rather than all of the fields?

  • How to search for duplicate values in a huge text file having around Half Million records

    - by Shibu
I have an input txt file which has data in the form of records (each row is a record and represents more or less like a DB table) and I need to find for duplicate values. For example: Rec1: ACCOUNT_NBR_1*NAME_1*VALUE_1 Rec2: ACCOUNT_NBR_2*NAME_2*VALUE_2 Rec3: ACCOUNT_NBR_1*NAME_3*VALUE_3 In the above set, the Rec1 and Rec2 are considered to be duplicates as the ACCOUNT NUMBERS are same(ACCOUNT_NBR1). Note: The input file shown above is a delimiter type file (the delimiter being *) however the file type can also be a fixed length file where each column starts and ends with a specified positions. I am currently doing this with the following logic: Loop thru each ACCOUNT NUMBER Loop thru each line of the txt file and record and check if this is repeated. If repeated record the same in a hashtable. End End And I am using 'Pattern' & 'BufferedReader' java API's to perform the above task. But since it is taking a long time, I would like to know a better way of handling it. Thanks, Shibu

  • Best place to store large amounts of session data

    - by audiopleb
I'm building an application that needs to store and re-use large amounts of data per session. So for example, the user selects a large list of list items (say 2000 or significantly more) which have a numeric value as their key then they save that selection and go off to another page, do something else and then come back to the original page and need to load their selections into that page. What is the quickest and most efficient way of storing and reusing that data? In a text file saved with the session id? In a temp db table? In the session data itself (db sessions so size isn't a limit) using a serialised string or using gzcompress or gzencode? Any advice or insight would be great! Thank you!!!!

  • Should I use interface builder or not?

    - by Michael Waterfall
I'd like to know more about the pros and cons of using interface builder when developing iPhone/iPad apps. I've written a fairly complex and customized app that's on the app store right now, but all of the interfaces are hand coded as they are fairly complex. I've customised the navigation and tab bars with backgrounds, table view cells are manually drawn for speed, and some views are complex and scalable with many subviews. I'm pondering whether or not to start using interface builder but I'm not sure to what extent I'll use it and whether it's worth it at all. Is it quicker? Can things still be easily customised? Any advice would be most welcome!

  • UITableViewController setting delegates and datasource

    - by the_great_monkey
Hi iOS gurus, I'm a little bit confused about UITableViewController... As far as I concern they are typically the delegate and datasource of the UITableView (although it can be made such that they are different). However in some cases, like when embedding a UITableViewController in a UITabBarViewController in Interface Builder, we initiate our table view controller in IB. Therefore in my understanding, the default initialiser is being called. But in this case, I have this piece of code: @interface Settings : UITableViewController { } And in the IB I see that the delegate and datasource of the UITableView is hooked up to this class. My question is, why is it that we don't need to explicitly say that it is following: @interface Settings : UITableViewController <UITableViewDelegate, UITableViewDataSource> { } And in the .m file: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; [tableView setDelegate:self]; [tableView setDataSource:self]; } I have indeed stumbled upon some cases where I have to explicitly code the above a few times to make something work. Although it is still a mystery for me as of why it is needed...

  • Can Grails exceptionHandler support the following Error Handling Flow

    - by Andrew
In my rails app that I am porting to grails whenever an unexpected error occurs I intercept the error automatically and display a form to the user informing them that an error has occured and asking them for further information. Meanwhile, as the form is rendered I write the stack trace and other information about who was logged in to a database table. Then if the form is submitted I add that information to the error report. I cannot tell from the exceptionHandler documentation and BootStrap examples whether that will allow me to grab all the information including various session and request parameters and then stuff them into a database and then post a form. Any thoughts?

  • What is an algorithm for minimizing some D distances between N items?

    - by Ross
A classmate printed out a diagram of a database for class, the kind with lines representing relationships between tables. However, his lines crossed all over the place and it looked ugly. So I got to thinking about a way to move the tables to minimize the total line distance, and I couldn't think of a way to do it, other than just moving them all on top of each other. So basically: Given N items on some 2d coordinate space and some amount of connections between pairs of those items, how do you move the items so that the total distance between pairs is minimal, but that no distance is smaller than S? (so that the tables would not be too close together) Is there some algorithm for this? (I realize that smallest total distance won't necessarily make the layout less ugly; lines might still cross. But the table layout is just what got me thinking)

  • PHP mail sending duplicates with different timestamp

    - by brhea
Hi all, I've got a PHP/AJAX form on my site at http://www.brianrhea.com (click Request Project) When I test the form from multiple computers, it works fine for me. However, I will sporadically receive a duplicate e-mail and have heard from at least one user who tried to submit that it gave them an alert error which I am unable to duplicate. This is the PHP that I'm using. Is there anything that stands out as a potential issue? <?php //Retrieve form data. //GET - user submitted data using AJAX //POST - in case user does not support javascript, we'll use POST instead $name = ($_GET['name']) ? $_GET['name'] : $_POST['name']; $email = ($_GET['email']) ?$_GET['email'] : $_POST['email']; $subject = ($_GET['subject']) ?$_GET['subject'] : $_POST['subject']; $comments = ($_GET['comments']) ?$_GET['comments'] : $_POST['comments']; //flag to indicate which method it uses. If POST set it to 1 if ($_POST) $post=1; //Simple server side validation for POST data, of course, you should validate the email if (!$name) $errors[count($errors)] = 'Please enter your name.'; if (!$email) $errors[count($errors)] = 'Please enter your email.'; if (!$subject) $errors[count($errors)] = 'Please choose a subject.'; if (!$comments) $errors[count($errors)] = 'Please enter your comments.'; //if the errors array is empty, send the mail if (!$errors) { //recipient $to = '[email protected]'; //sender $from = $name . • Extjs 3.4 - Button Icon does not show or does not center

    - by Chris
I want to fill a button with an icon I created but whatever I have tried just seems to put the icon either half cut off and way left, or it doesn't show at all. I've been trying different combinations of CSS and the icon, iconcls, cls button options. I was following the Ext 3 buttons example page but that doesn't seem to display anything for me... This code is an item inside my form panel (I try to replicate this with different buttons in the panel) { xtype: 'container', layout: { type: 'table', columns: 2, tableAttrs: { cellspacing: 5 } }, // padding: 5, pack: 'center', align: 'middle', items: [{ xtype: 'button', width: 40, // scale: 'medium', ref: '../drawToolsBtn', tooltip: 'Drawing Tools', icon: 'img/draw.png', iconAlign: 'top', baseCls: 'x-plain', // iconCls: 'drawBtn', enableToggle: true, // padding: 3, toggleHandler: function(btn, state) { this.showDrawToolsWin(state); }, scope: this },{ xtype: 'label', // columnWidth: 1, // remainder of container padding: 3, text: 'Click button to open Drawing Tools Menu' }] } CSS -------------------- .drawBtn{ background: url(../img/draw.png) !important; } Thank you for any help!

  • How would you create a notification system like on SO or Facebook in RoR?

    - by Justin Meltzer
I'm thinking that notifications would be it's own resource and have a has_many, through relationship with the user model with a join table representing the associations. A user having many notifications is obvious, and then a notification would have many users because there would be a number of standardized notifications (a commenting notification, a following notification etc.) that would be associated with many users. Beyond this setup, I'm unsure how to trigger the creation of notifications based on certain events in your application. I'm also a little unsure of how I'd need to set up routing - would it be it's own separate resource or nested in the user resource? I'd find it very helpful if someone could expand on this. Lastly, ajax polling would likely improve such a feature. There's probably some things I'm missing, so please fill this out so that it is a good general resource.

  • MySQL command-line tool: How to find out number of rows affected by a DELETE?

    - by ambivalence
I'm trying to run a script that deletes a bunch of rows in a MySQL (innodb) table in batches, by executing the following in a loop: mysql --user=MyUser --password=MyPassword MyDatabase < SQL_FILE where SQL_FILE contains a DELETE FROM ... LIMIT X command. I need to keep running this loop until there's no more matching rows. But unlike running in the mysql shell, the above command does not return the number of rows affected. I've tried -v and -t but neither works. How can I find out how many rows the batch script affected? Thanks!

  • Entity Framework with 'Get' Stored Procedure that returns Entities

    - by Nick Reeve
Hello, I am attempting to execute a stored procedure that returns data with exactly the same columns as that of a table Entity I have in my project. I set the 'Returns a Collection Of' property in the 'Add Function Import' dialog to my entity type. I get a NullReferenceException error when executing the stored procedure and on further digging it seems that it is because the 'EntityKey' property is missing. Is there anything I can do to tell it to ignore those special properties of the Entity? I already have a partial class for that entity with '[ScaffoldColumn(false)]' but that doesn't seem to matter. Cheers, Nick

  • Which would be better? Storing/access data in a local text file, or in a database?

    - by TerranRich
Basically, I'm still working on a puzzle-related website (micro-site really), and I'm making a tool that lets you input a word pattern (e.g. "r??n") and get all the matching words (in this case: rain, rein, ruin, etc.). Should I store the words in local text files (such as words5.txt, which would have a return-delimited list of 5-letter words), or in a database (such as the table Words5, which would again store 5-letter words)? I'm looking at the problem in terms of data retrieval speeds and CPU server load. I could definitely try it both ways and record the times taken for several runs with both methods, but I'd rather hear it from people who might have had experience with this. Which method is generally better overall?

  • Find maximum number of logged on users in SQL

    - by lleto
Hi, I want to keep tabs on the number of concurrent users of my application. I therefore log a time_start and a time_stop. If I now want to query the database for the maximum number of logged on users and return the start date, how would I do that. The table looks like this: id | time_start | time_stop ----+---------------------+--------------------- 1 | 2010-03-07 05:40:59 | 2010-03-07 05:41:33 2 | 2010-03-07 06:50:51 | 2010-03-07 10:50:51 3 | 2010-02-21 05:20:00 | 2010-03-07 12:23:44 4 | 2010-02-19 08:21:12 | 2010-03-07 12:37:28 5 | 2010-02-13 05:52:13 | Where time_stop is empty the user is still logged on. In this case I would expect to see 2010-03-07 returned, since all users (5) were logged on at that moment. However if I would run the query with 'where time_start BETWEEN '2010-02-17' AND '2010-02-23' I would expect to see 2010-02-21 with a maximum of 2. Is this possible direct in SQL (using postgres) or do I need to parse the results in PHP? Thanks, lleto

  • Storing XML in SQL 2005 XMLNS issue

    - by Mike Mengell
I'm trying to store XML in SQL 2005. I have a very simple table with an Id and a XML column. When the XML contains the attribute xmlns my searching doesn't work. This is my XML; insert into XMLTest (ItemXML) values ( '<MessageType> <ItemId id="ABC" xmlns="ss" /> <Subject>sub</Subject> </MessageType> ') And this is my Query; select itemid, ItemXML.query('(/MessageType/ItemId)') from XMLTest order by ItemId desc If I change the attribute xmlns to anything else my query works. I don't think I know enough about XML to understand what SQL is doing with the namespace. But it must be processing it and storing it differently maybe? Anyone had this issue?

  • Should I learn Haskell or F# if I already know OCaml?

    - by Unknown
I am wondering if I should continue to learn OCaml or switch to F# or Haskell. Here are the criteria I am most interested in: Longevity Which language will last longer? I don't want to learn something that might be abandoned in a couple years by users and developers. Will Inria, Microsoft, University of Glasgow continue to support their respective compilers for the long run? Practicality Articles like this make me afraid to use Haskell. A hash table is the best structure for fast retrieval. Haskell proponents in there suggest using Data.Map which is a binary tree. I don't like being tied to a bulky .NET framework unless the benefits are large. I want to be able to develop more than just parsers and math programs. Well Designed I like my languages to be consistent. Please support your opinion with logical arguments and citations from articles. Thank you.

  • How to query range of data in DB2 with highest performance?

    - by Fuangwith S.
Usually, I need to retrieve data from a table in some range; for example, a separate page for each search result. In MySQL I use LIMIT keyword but in DB2 I don't know. Now I use this query for retrieve range of data. SELECT * FROM( SELECT SMALLINT(RANK() OVER(ORDER BY NAME DESC)) AS RUNNING_NO , DATA_KEY_VALUE , SHOW_PRIORITY FROM EMPLOYEE WHERE NAME LIKE 'DEL%' ORDER BY NAME DESC FETCH FIRST 20 ROWS ONLY ) AS TMP ORDER BY TMP.RUNNING_NO ASC FETCH FIRST 10 ROWS ONLY but I know it's bad style. So, how to query for highest performance?

  • Making a web interface for neo4j

    - by user2898839
I have a local neo4j database server and I want to build a web interface using javascript. Ideally I want to do all the querying and display the result client side for the website. I am mostly a Java programmer and unfortunately don't have much experience with Javascript. How can I do a cypher query from the website and return the result in a format which I can display easily in a table for example? I have seen examples of doing the querying server side with servlets or node.js but really would like to just have the neo4j server and the website client. I would be interesting in seeing a small working example if it is at all possible. Thanks for your time.

  • Scraping html WITHOUT uniquie identifiers using python

    - by Nicholas Law
I would like to design an algorithm using python that scrapes thousands of pages like this one and this one, gathers all the data and inserts it into a MySQL database. The script will be run on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to update the database of any new information added to each individual page. Ideally I would like a scraper that is easy to work with for table structured data but also data that does not have unique identifiers (ie. id and classes attributes). Which scraper add-on should I use? BeautifulSoup, Scrapy or Mechanize? Are there any particular tutorials/books I should be looking at for this desired result? In the long-run I will be implementing a mobile app that works with all this data through querying the database.

  • Tips for improving performance of DB that is above size 40 GB (Sql Server 2005) and growing monthly

    - by HotTester
The current DB or our project has crossed over 40 GB this month and on an average it is growing monthly by around 3 GB. Now all the tables are best normalized and proper indexing has been used. But still as the size is growing it is taking more time to fire even basic queries like 'select count(1) from table'. So can u share some more points that will help in this front. Database is Sql Server 2005. Further if we implement Partitioning wouldn't it create a overhead ? Thanks in advance.

  • greasemonkey insert javascript

    - by Kaartz
I have a bookmarklet, clicking the bookmarklet includes a PHP script (evaluated as a JavaScript file) to the page few table values and select values passed as GET parameters. The PHP script writes the page data to the MySQL database, and outputs a success message that is treated as JavaScript code and executed by the browser. Is there any possibility to do this using greasemonkey and call this function when a existing button is clicked on the web page. I wrote the above bookmarklet inspired by this tutorial. http://tutorialzine.com/2010/04/simple-bookmarking-app-php-javascript-mysql/ This is the bookmarklet code: (function () { var jsScript = document.createElement('script'); jsScript.setAttribute('type', 'text/javascript'); jsScript.setAttribute('src', '/bookmark.php?url=' + encodeURIComponent(location.href) + '&title=' + encodeURIComponent(document.title)); document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(jsScript); })(); Please help me.

  • Which type of Rails model association should I use in this situation?

    - by jstayton
I have two models/tables in my Rails application: discussions and comments. Each discussion has_many comments, and each comment belongs_to a discussion. My discussions table also includes a first_comment_id column and last_comment_id column for convenience and speed. I want to be able to call discussion.last_comment for the last comment model, but the following (in my discussion model) isn't working to make this happen: has_one :first_comment, :class_name => "Comment" has_one :last_comment, :class_name => "Comment" When I call discussion.last_comment, the following SQL is run: SELECT * FROM `comments` WHERE (`comments`.discussion_id = 1) LIMIT 1 It's using the discussions.id column to join against comments.discussion_id, when I want it to join discussions.last_comment_id against comments.id. Am I using the wrong type of association here? Thanks for your help!
