  • Will adding q&a help my site's rankings, and if so, what are the implications of a sub-domain for q&a rather than a path on the site? [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: Subdomain versus subdirectory One of our web properties is doing quite well without any additional links being created on the site, and our link inventory is tightly managed - no user-generated links. To introduce a community aspect to the site, we want to implement a q&a forum. Once in place, new links will populate our link inventory with keywords that are not necessarily targeted to the site. With the q&a on a sub-domain, would that not affect the main site's rankings? What's the best approach for this?

    I hope someone understands what happens to my NSMutableArray. I read records a, b, c, d from a database, load the fields into an object an add the object to an array. To do this I read the records into an instance of that object (tmpEvent) and add the Object to the target array (NSMutableArray myArray). the code looks like: for (condition) { tmpEvent.field1 = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(char*)sqlite3_column_text(stmt, 0)]; tmpEvent.field2 = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(char*)sqlite3_column_text(stmt, 1)]; tmpEvent.field3 = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(char*)sqlite3_column_text(stmt, 2)]; NSLog(@"myArray: adding %@", tmpEvent.field1); [myArray addObject:tmpEvent]; } The NSLog shows myArray: adding a myArray: adding b myArray: adding c myArray: adding d Subsequent I enumerate the array (this can be in the same or a different method): for (myObject *records in myArray) { NSLog(@"iEvents value %@", records.field1); } The NSLog now shows: myArray value d myArray value d myArray value d myArray value d a mystery .... ??? any thoughts?

    If you have ever added multiple IP addresses to a single Windows server, going through the graphical interface is an incredible pain as each IP must be added manually, each in a new dialog box. Here’s a simple solution. Needless to say, this can be incredibly monotonous and time consuming if you are adding more than a few IP addresses. Thankfully, there is a much easier way which allows you to add an entire subnet (or more) in seconds. Adding an IP Address from the Command Line Windows includes the “netsh” command which allows you to configure just about any aspect of your network connections. If you view the accepted parameters using “netsh /?” you will be presented with a list of commands each which have their own list of commands (and so on). For the purpose of adding IP addresses, we are interested in this string of parameters: netsh interface ipv4 add address Note: For Windows Server 2003/XP and earlier, “ipv4″ should be replaced with just “ip” in the netsh command. If you view the help information, you can see the full list of accepted parameters but for the most part what you will be interested in is something like this: netsh interface ipv4 add address “Local Area Connection” 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0 The above command adds the IP Address 192.168.1.2 (with Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0) to the connection titled “Local Area Network”. Adding Multiple IP Addresses at Once When we accompany a netsh command with the FOR /L loop, we can quickly add multiple IP addresses. The syntax for the FOR /L loop looks like this: FOR /L %variable IN (start,step,end) DO command So we could easily add every IP address from an entire subnet using this command: FOR /L %A IN (0,1,255) DO netsh interface ipv4 add address “Local Area Connection” 192.168.1.%A 255.255.255.0 This command takes about 20 seconds to run, where adding the same number of IP addresses manually would take significantly longer.   • Running Webapp on Mac in UTC (either changing MacBook timezone or tomcat timezone)

    To run my web app, I need to set my timezone to UTC on my MacBook. I can do this temporarily by opening a Konsole and entering sudo ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/UTC /etc/localtime However, my timezone returns to normal when I restart my machine! Any advice? Edit : The response to this question by 'Celada' implies that I can just make my Server UTC. I am using Apache Tomcat 7. Adding to Celada's response, how can I make it UTC? Update - 3rd April : Following Celada's response, I have tried adding SetEnv TZ UTC at the top of startup.sh. This didn't seem to make a difference. After some research, I tried adding export JAVA_OPTS="-Duser.timezone=UTC" to startup.sh, but this too had no effect. Am I adding the correct command to the correct file?

  • Linux Disk Setup for VMs

    Been trying to find the ideal way to setup disks/partitions for Linux guests on ESXi. Seems as though Linux is falling behind when it comes easily adding disk space. The end goal is to be able to add disk space to a Linux server without rebooting the server or taking the server offline. Ideally, I would expect adding disk to a Linux machine should be as easy as adding disk space to a Windows machine. I expand the vmdk file from vSphere Open disk mangler find the disk and extend volume. Would have to use command line tools in linux which is no big deal, but I haven't been able to find a solid way to exand filesystems on the fly. What is everyone else using for disk setups on their linux guests? Has anyone been able to acheive adding storage space to linux without downtime? Can it be done without using lvm?

    I'm trying to get ModSecurity 2.7.1 to work with an ASP.NET MVC 3 website. The installation ran without errors and looking at the event log, ModSecurity is starting up successfully. I am using the modsecurity.conf-recommended file to set the basic rules. The problem I'm having is that whenever I am POSTing some form data, it doesn't get through to the controller action (or model binder). I have SecRuleEngine set to DetectionOnly. I have SecRequestBodyAccess set to On. With these settings, the body of the POST never reaches the controller action. If I set SecRequestBodyAccess to Off it works, so it's definitely something to do with how ModSecurity forwards the body data.   • Directory error when trying to create a new user

    I added a second user 'shirley' in Settings - User Accounts, and set a password. The account type is Standard. In 11.04, this worked and I logged in and had a functioning desktop for this user. How is this done in 11.10? When I try to log in as this user I have this error: Nautilus could not create the required folder "/home/shirley/.config/nautilus". Before running Nautilus, please create the following folder, or set permissions such that Nautilus can create it. The only option then is to click OK, this dumps me out to full-screen Nautilus, like this: There is no launcher or visible way to start any programs. Print screen doesn't take a screengrab. The desktop is similar to this question but I get no terminal when I press CTRL+ALT+T. I have to press CTRL+ALT+F2 and restart from the terminal to get out of this. This answer is to install gnome-system-tools. Shouldn't I be able to add a second user with the default install? EDIT: I tried the deluser+adduser suggestion, there was no change after trying it.   • Inheritance vs containment while extending a large legacy project

    I have got a legacy Java project with a lot of code. The code uses MVC pattern and is well structured and well written. It also has a lot of unit tests and it is still actively maintained (bug fixing, minor features adding). Therefore I want to preserve the original structure and code style as much as possible. The new feature I am going to add is a conceptual one, so I have to make my changes all over the code. In order to minimize changes I decided not to extend existing classes but to use containment: class ExistingClass { // .... existing code // my code adding new functionality private ExistingClassExtension extension = new ExistingClassExtension(); public ExistingClassExtension getExtension() {return extension;} } ... // somewhere in code ExistingClass instance = new ExistingClass(); ... // when I need a new functionality instance.getExtension().newMethod1(); All functionality that I am adding is inside a new ExistingClassExtension class. Actually I am adding only these 2 lines to each class that needs to be extended. By doing so I also do not need to instantiate new, extended classes all over the code and I may use existing tests to make sure there is no regression. However my colleagues argue that in this situation doing so isn't a proper OOP approach, and I need to inherit from ExistingClass in order to add a new functionality. What do you think? I am aware of numerous inheritance/containment questions here, but I think my question is different.

  • LTSP: flash plugin crashes after updates

    I am running an alternate install 64 bit Ubuntu 12.04 with ltsp-server-standalone. I recently ran a few updates, including adding wine from the repos, adding Medibuntu, and adding google earth, all on the server, which runs as a user workstation. Before the updates, the flash plugin ran fine in thin clients. However, it now crashes. No problem with running the flash plugin on the server / workstation. I have since followed the LTSPManual pdf to copy over my sources list, add Medibuntu in the chroot, update and upgrade, and then update the image, but the flash plugin still crashes.     Googlebot fetches pages in my site very frequently. And this slowens my website. I don't want Googlebot to crawl too frequent. I decreased crawl rate from Google webmaster tools. But I'm supposing to use these three tools: Adding rel="nofollow" to my inner pages. So Googlebot won't crawl and index them. Adding meta tag "noindex" so Google will remove this page from index and won't get it again. Adding Disallow: /mySomeFolder/ to robots.txt and Googlebot won't crawl that pages. I'm planning to use these methods for my 56.000 pages, except the most important 6-7 pages. Which method would you prefer and what would be disadvantages or advantages ?     Google's doc on async tasks assumes knowledge of the difference between regular and asynchronously added tasks. add_async(task, transactional=False, rpc=None) Asynchronously add a Task or a list of Tasks to this Queue. How is adding tasks asynchronously different to adding them regularly. I.e. what is the difference between using add(task, transactional=False) and add_async(task, transactional=False, rpc=None) I've heard that adding tasks regularly blocks certain things. Any explanation of what it blocks and how, and how async tasks don't block would be greatly appreciated.

    Booting an Ubuntu DVD, pressing F6 and then ESC presents the boot prompt with the default kernel options, with the possibility of editing and adding extra options. Something like: kernel /casper/vmlinuz boot=casper quiet splash -- Questions: What's the meaning of the two hyphens? When adding an extra option (such as "toram" or "vga=791"), is there any difference between adding it BEFORE or AFTER the hyphens? When typing commands in Bash, two hyphens in a row means "options end here; anything that follows should be treated as an argument, even if it starts with a hyphen". But the hyphens must have another meaning at the boot prompt, as "toram" or "vga=791" really are options.

  • how to handle duplicates in AVL tree

    I want to make my avl tree support adding duplicates but there is a problem with the default behavior of the binary search tree with duplicates that the rotation could make nodes with equal key be on the left and the right of the parent for example adding A,A,A will cause the tree to do a rotation to be something like that A / \ A A so getting all the entries with that key will be a problem...and searching in both direction is not something good the solution that i have thought of is making each node stores an array of duplicates so when adding a new item that already exists will be just adding a new item to the array , removing item with key will delete the whole node while the find all items with key will return that array. are there are any other methods to handle duplicates ?

    I pull product price from another page. Then I multiply it with quantity entered in the quantity input field. The problem is, if I forget to enter quantity value before I pull product price data or if I change the quantity field later, the final total price is not updated.   • STL vector performance

    STL vector class stores a copy of the object using copy constructor each time I call push_back. Wouldn't it slow down the program? I can have a custom linkedlist kind of class which deals with pointers to objects. Though it would not have some benefits of STL but still should be faster.   • Adding user groups from a remote domain server to permissions of a remote desktop terminal server fails. why?

    I have 3 computers, two of which are servers running Windows Server 2008 and another running Windows 7. One of the servers has the following roles installed; Active Directory, DHCP and DNS. The other server has a Terminal Server role installed. I am trying to log-on to the Terminal Server via Remote Desktop using the Windows 7 machine with credentials from the Active Directory server. Sounds simple enough, right? Well, no. Whenever I try to add users or groups from the Active Directory Domain server to the Terminal Server's permissions for RDP it seems to ignore, or forget, them. Though the various methods I was able to find it either adds a strange sting of numbers after the user group or the logo to the left has a question mark on it, reopening the dialogue box replaces the user group with the name of the Domain. I am confident I have the Domain setup correctly as I am able to log-on to users in the Active Directory from other computers I have put in the Domain, and when I attempt to browse the user objects from the Domain I am prompted with a username/password field and am able to view the structure of Active Directory objects. Please advise.
