  • Swapping out web services

    I created a gui in .net that I want other people to use. It connects to my custom database via a web service and returns data. Now I want other people to use it. They tell me that they want to use their own database. How can I let them plug their database results into my gui? It is almost as though I want to repoint to their web service somehow.... My gui is in .net but they could be using any language even java

    To preface I am new to web development. I am looking at creating a core set of RESTful web services around a valuable document library of sorts (initial CRUD abilities). In doing so I am theoretically creating a perfectly re-usable and scalable back-end to be used by unanticipated applications in the future. My question centers around the best practice for doing this. My initial requirement has me also creating a unique front end. Would I make the front end and back end completely separate projects to enhance the re-usability. It would increase overhead. Looking at using GWT, Restlet, and JEE technology stack if this influences the setup at all.

This tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".   • SSIS web service task producing "object reference" error

    Our care management system uses a web service to import data. I've successfully executed one of its methods using soapUI, and now I want to replicate this with an SSIS 2008 web service task, but I'm running into a problem. I've created the "HTTP Connection Manager" successfully, and specified the location of the "WSDLFile", but when I go to the Input tab and select the Service from the dropdown (there is only one), I get an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error, and and the Method dropdown is empty. Any idea what this is trying to tell me?

  • what are the limitations of mobile phones and web development

    simple really.. I am have been asked to do a mobile site (straight html + css (+ maybe jquery mobile later on)). The site will need to support the new type smart phone and the old type Nokia/(Symbian OS) with the web browser. Doubts and reservations aside as to anyone without a smart phone would bother visiting this site it still needs to support it. My first question is do older phones support PNG images and transparancey... But this has led me to a much broader question of what are some of the limitations of developing for older phone platforms is there anything that has caught mobile web devs out and had them scratching their head for an afternoon.. what are the limitations of mobile phones?

  • mscomctl.ocx on my dev machine gives me problems since security patch of MS

    I am busy on this problem since 2 days ago and hope someone can get me out of it. I have Excel 2010 (full install 944Mb) on my Windows 8 computer. It works well. But when I modify my workbook (containing a ListView version 6.0) I am not able to run it on my client's computer. I get the error: Could Not Load An Object. Not Available on This Machine. Even it works well on my dev machine. The reason is: Microsoft applied a Security Patch (near august 2012 I think) on mscomctl.ocx and my Excel 2010 installation files (downloaded not long ago) contains the new version of mscomctl.ocx. The clients using my Excel file don't apply the security patch at this moment. Se everytime I publish my Excel file to client's computers (from my dev environment), I reference the new mscomctl.ocx. That's the problem. I already try to get the old mscomctl.ocx from client's computer and copy & register it on my dev machine but then I got errors (Class not registered, ...) when I create a userform and drag a listview on it. So: mscomctl.ocx on client's machine is version 6.1.98.13 from 2008. mscomctl.ocx on my dev machine is version 6.1.98.34 from 2012. My question: Does someone have an idea how to proceed to have a usable version of mscomctl.ocx on my dev machine? Thank you very much.

    Hello, I would like to start developing mobile-friendly versions of websites for my clients, however, I am baffled with options and google search wasn't very helpful - there is so many options and opinions, I've been reading for few days now and still have no idea how to start. What's your opinion/experience about/with it? My main points: mobile devices supported (in order of relevance): iPhone 3G, iPhone 2G, Blackberry, Droid powered mobiles, other phone friendly numbers, phone friendly emails contact/register form working on each (or the most possible) devices listed jQTouch seems superb (simple, quick, working), I'm not sure about it on blackberry/droid and I don't want to create 6 web versions for each mobile device - Makes even less sense if you consider, that I'm starting with small web (6-10 pages, 1 contact form, 3 register forms) to play with.     Hi , Currently I am looking at securing our web services. At the moment we are not using WCF so this is not an option. One approach I have seen and implemented locally fairly easily was the approach described in article: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/aspnet/wsFormsAuthentication.aspx Which describes adding a HttpModule which prompts for user credentials if the user browses to any pages (web services) which are contained in a services folder. Does anyone see any way that this security could fall down and could be bypassed etc. I'm really just trying to decide whether this is a valid approach to take or not? thanks

    I have a web api app developed on VS2010. The application calls an external program to run and it runs just fine if I execute in VS2010. But then when I deploy the web api to IIS 7 and 7.5, in some cases, it crashes.     Is it possible in a GSM mobile phone OS (e.g. Android, Win Mo, Symbian, etc.) to have some kind of background task or application able to exchange data at the same time with a web server and a secure element of the mobile? The purpose if for the web server to be able to push APDUs to the secure element (an retrieve response APDUs) without activating the IHM of the mobile. NB: I know that this is possible when the secure element is the one managing the GSM baseband, for example using BIP as described in Ulysse specifications. My question is only when using another secure element (e.g. Java Card in a microSD).

  • Business web application platform structure

    Hi, I would like to develop a web application in java/spring/hibernate serving as a business platform that I could connect plugins to (i.e. CRM plugin, ware plugin, sales plugin). Those plugins could be dependent of other plugins in a tree manner. The parent project would be packaged as war having all the basic configuration and looks (spring configs, css, scripts), ready to go user and group management, security settings, etc. All together I would like it to behave and look a bit like Joomla, but built using different tools for different purposes. And I have a few questions concerning that project: Do you know of any open source projects offering such a platform ready to go? If not is maven applicable for managing those plugins? What is the best way to package and deploy those plugins? And the last but not least, basically is this the right way to go or is a dead end and it would be better to create a separate web app for those business needs?

    I am helping someone out with a javascript-based web app (even though I know next to nothing about web development) and we are unsure about the best way to implement a feature we'd like to have. Basically, the user will be using our tool to view all kinds of boring data in tables, columns, etc. via javascript. We want to implement a feature where the user can click a button or link that then allows the user to download the displayed data in a .doc file. Our basic idea so far is something like: call a Java function on the server with the desired data passed in as a String when the link is clicked generate the .doc file on the server automatically "open" a link to the file in the client's browser to initiate the download Is this possible? If so, is it feasible? Or, can you recommend a better solution? edit: the data does not reside on the server; rather, it is queried from a SQL database

    Hi all, I need to develop a basic web app very quickly (1 week) for a demo. My requirements are Java (I need to make use of existing Java libraries to access the relevant data) 2 screens One for static data view, maybe some search parameters Other for basic form entry No fancy AJAX required Ideally easy for a web designer to come in and tart it up as necessary, without having to rewrite everything My first stop was going to be to checkout Wicket as I've heard good things about it. I don't have the time right now to dive into anything heavy, which probably writes off JSF in my mind (I played with JSF1, steep learning curve which I've now slid back down). I'm happy to treat the result as throwaway so if there's a framework which starts of well but then doesn't scale up to bigger projects, that would be ok. Any suggestions appreciated on frameworks/approach.

Also some stability on the market. The focus in on good looking and easy to make GUI. Javascript is only a plus. EDIT: It would be a big plus if it could be consumed in Delphi EDIT 2: If it was not clear, I am looking for a web base solution. So the target is HTML output and not native code.

  • Need new method for linking to native mapping from mobile web app

    My mobile web apps use a map button which automatically starts the mapping features of Android and iPhone by simply linking to http://maps.google.com/maps?q=New+York. iOs 6 comes out, the links stop working, because Apple wants us to use "maps.APPLE.com". Turns out ANYTHING you send to "maps.apple.com" gets forwarded to "maps.google.com". So now I have to specially detect iOs 6 and swap out links just so Apple can forward everything back to Google anyway. Is there a clean way to open the device/native mapping app from a mobile web app that works on Android, iOs 6, and iOs pre-6, since iOs 6 nerfed it?     Hi all, I want to build simple SOAP web service. So far I've only worked with existing SOAP/Rest services. And now I'd like to create my own, simple one for starters. For example create simple hello + string web service where I provide the string in request from SOAP ui or similar tool. I have Jboss server installed already, what is the "simplest" possible way to achieve this? I realize I need interface, interfaceImpl, and a wsdl file(generated possibly).
