  • Looking for a way to highlight specific words in textareas?

    Hi i'm looking for a way to highlight specific words in text kind of like how a text editor might work with syntax highlighting. The highlighting will consist of the text being different colours and/or different styles such as italic, bold or regular. In order to narrow focus, how this might be achieved using Java Swing components. There are most probably a number of ways of doing this but one that is efficient in dealing with multiple highlighted words and large amounts of text. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

  • c++: at what point should I start using "new char[N]" vs a static buffer "char[Nmax]"

    My question is with regard to C++ Suppose I write a function to return a list of items to the caller. Each item has 2 logical fields: 1) an int ID, and 2) some data whose size may vary, let's say from 4 bytes up to 16Kbytes. So my question is whether to use a data structure like: struct item { int field1; char field2[MAX_LEN]; OR, rather, to allocate field2 from the heap, and require the caller to destroy when he's done: struct item{ int field1; char *field2; // new char[N] -- destroy[] when done! Since the max size of field #2 is large, is makes sense that this would be allocated from the heap, right? So once I know the size N, I call field2 = new char[N], and populate it. Now, is this horribly inefficient? Is it worse in cases where N is always small, i.e. suppose I have 10000 items that have N=4?

  • Selecting records in SQL that have the minimum value for that record based on another field

    I have a set of data, and while the number of fields and tables it joins with is quite complex, I believe I can distill my problem down using the required fields/tables here for illustration regarding this particular problem. I have three tables: ClientData, Sources, Prices Here is what my current query looks like before selecting the minimum value: select c.RecordID, c.Description, s.Source, p.Price, p.Type, p.Weight from ClientData c inner join Sources s ON c.RecordID = s.RecordID inner join Prices p ON s.SourceID = p.SourceID This produces the following result: RecordID Description Source Price Type Weight ============================================================= 001002003 ABC Common Stock Vendor 1 104.5 Close 1 001002003 ABC Common Stock Vendor 1 103 Bid 2 001002003 ABC Common Stock Vendor 2 106 Close 1 001002003 ABC Common Stock Vendor 2 100 Unknwn 0 111222333 DEF Preferred Stk Vendor 3 80 Bid 2 111222333 DEF Preferred Stk Vendor 3 82 Mid 3 111222333 DEF Preferred Stk Vendor 2 81 Ask 4 What I am trying to do is display prices that belong to the same record which have the minimum non-zero weight for that record (so the weight must be greater than 0, but it has to be the minimum from amongst the remaining weights). So in the above example, for record 001002003 I would want to show the close prices from Vendor 1 and Vendor 2 because they both have a weight of 1 (the minimum weight for that record). But for 111222333 I would want to show just the bid price from Vendor 3 because its weight of 2 is the minimum, non-zero for that record. The result that I'm after would like like: RecordID Description Source Price Type Weight ============================================================= 001002003 ABC Common Stock Vendor 1 104.5 Close 1 001002003 ABC Common Stock Vendor 2 106 Close 1 111222333 DEF Preferred Stk Vendor 3 80 Bid 2 Any ideas on how to achieve this?   • When my object is no longer referenced why do its events continue to run?

    Say I am making a game and have a base Buff class. I may also have a subclass named ThornsBuff which subscribes to the Player class's Damaged event. The Player may have a list of Buffs and one of them may be the ThornsBuff. For example: Test Class Player player = new Player(); player.ActiveBuffs.Add(new ThornsBuff(player)); ThornsBuff Class public ThornsBuff(Player player) { player.DamageTaken += player_DamageTaken; } private void player_DamageTaken(MessagePlayerDamaged m) { m.Assailant.Stats.Health -= (int)(m.DamageAmount * .25); } This is all to illustrate an example. If I were to remove the buff from the list, the event is not detached. Even though the player no longer has the buff, the event is still executed as if he did. Now, I could have a Dispel method to unregister the event, but that forces the developer to call Dispel in addition to removing the Buff from the list. What if they forget, increased coupling, etc. What I don't understand is why the event doesn't detatch itself automatically when the Buff is removed from the list. The Buff only existed in the list and that is its one reference. After it is removed shouldn't the event be detached? I tried adding the detaching code to the finalizer of the Buff but that didn't fix it either. The event is still running even after it has 0 references. I suppose it is because the garbage collector had not run yet? Is there any way to make it automatic and instant so that when the object has no references all its events are unregisted? Thanks.

  • Find and list all functions/methods in a set of JavaScript files

    Is there a way to read a set of JavaScript files, and output a description of where every function/method is defined? I realize that this is likely impossible in full generality, due to the extreme dynamic nature of the language. What I'm imagining is something which gets the (relatively) straightforward cases. Ideally, I'd want it figure out where, e.g. some method got attached to string or hash or some other fundamental class (and also just let you find all the classes/functions that get defined once in one place). Does such a tool exist?

  • Javascript dynamic table memory usage

Is there any change in the code I can use to solve this or is it a browser side problem?

  • Not really a quaestion...but i need help

    I have to make a process in Oracle/PLSQL.....i have to verify that the interval of time between start_date and end_date from a new row that i create must not intersect other start_dates and end_dates from other rows. Now I need to check each row for that condition and if it doesn't correspond the repetitive instruction should stop and after that to display a message such as "The interval of time given is not correct". I don't know how to make repetitive instructions in Oracle/PLSQL and I would appreciate if you would help me.

  • How do you get good line spacing with lpr?

    I'm using lpr with the following flags: lpr -o cpi=12 -o lpi=8 -o page-left=36 -o page-top=36 -o page-bottom=36 But the lines appear too close together. But if I decrease lpi to 6 or something, the font just gets taller. What I really want is control over the amount of space between the lines. My makeshift solution is to insert blank lines in the document using sed G, but ideally I would like to achieve 1.5 line spacing instead of full double-spaced. Is this possible?

  • Can I use accepts_nested_attributes_for with checkboxes in a _form to select potential 'links' from a list

    In Rails 3: I have the following models: class System has_many :input_modes # name of the table with the join in it has_many :imodes, :through => :input_modes, :source => 'mode', :class_name => "Mode" has_many :output_modes has_many :omodes, :through => :output_modes, :source => 'mode', :class_name => 'Mode' end class InputMode # OutputMode is identical belongs_to :mode belongs_to :system end class Mode ... fields, i.e. name ... end That works nicely and I can assign lists of Modes to imodes and omodes as intended. What I'd like to do is use accepts_nested_attributes_for or some other such magic in the System model and build a view with a set of checkboxes. The set of valid Modes for a given System is defined elsewhere. I'm using checkboxes in the _form view to select which of the valid modes is actually set in imodes and omodes . I don't want to create new Modes from this view, just select from a list of pre-defined Modes. Below is what I'm currently using in my _form view. It generates a list of checkboxes, one for each allowed Mode for the System being edited. If the checkbox is ticked then that Mode is to be included in the imodes list. <% @allowed_modes.each do |mode| %> <li> <%= check_box_tag :imode_ids, mode.id, @system.imodes.include?(modifier), :name => 'imode_ids[]' %> <%= mode.name %> </li> <% end %> Which passes this into the controller in params: { ..., "imode_ids"=>["2", "14"], ... } In the controller#create I extract and assign the Modes that had their corresponding checkboxes ticked and add them to imodes with the following code: @system = System.new(params[:system]) # Note the the empty list that makes sure we clear the # list if none of the checkboxes are ticked if params.has_key?(:imode_ids) imodes = Mode.find(params[:imode_ids]) else imodes = [] end @system.imodes = imodes Once again that all works nicely but I'll have to copy that cludgey code into the other methods in the controller and I'd much prefer to use something more magical if possible. I feel like I've passed off the path of nice clean rails code and into the forest of "hacking around" rails; it works but I don't like it. What should I have done?

  • Can I use Jquery to automatically find and set the width and height of a variety of images?

    I am using the Masonry Plugin and for it to work correctly with images, you need to set the width and height within the image tag. All the image's heights will vary, but the width will be set at 200px. Is there a way for Jquery to detect the height of each image and set it's height? That way I don't have to go set the height of every single image. Does this make sense? Hope someone can help! I am new to Jquery.

  • Drop down menu like the default iPad application menus

    Hi Everyone, I'm currently working on my first iOS application to run on the iPad, and I've come across a problem. I have been asked to implement menu's similar to the ones in the default applications such as when you click on the "Calendars" button in the top left of the calendars app. Only issue is, I cant seem to find a standard UI object that looks like these, with the arrow connecting the menu to the button etc. Is this a standard UI component that I should be able to use, or will I have to imitate them by creating a custom object?     Simply put, my config file includes my database class, and the config file has in it: global $db; $db = new database(DB_HOST, DB_NAME, DB_USER, DB_PASS); That file is root/config.php Moving on to root/functions/func.newpage.php doesn't have any includes/requires, and uses $db-classfunction since the file I'm working with: root/newpage.php - requires the config file, as well as func.newpage.php. However I still come up with: Undefined variable db. Anything you guys are seeing I'm not? Thanks! Let me know if more details are needed.

    I have been working with NSArrays and NSMutableArrays that store NSDate objects for a few days now. I noticed that calling [listOfDates removeObject:date1] removes all the NSDate objects from the array. I have instead been doing this to remove objects: NSMutableArray *dateList; // Has Dates in it NSDate *dateToRemove; // Date Object to Remove __block NSUInteger indexToRemove; __block BOOL foundMatch = NO; [dateList enumerateObjectsUsingBlock:^(id obj, NSUInteger idx, BOOL *stop) { if ([obj isEqualToDate:dateToRemove]) { indexToRemove = idx; foundMatch = YES; *stop = YES; } }]; if (foundMatch) { [dateList removeObjectAtIndex:indexToRemove]; } Is there a better way to be doing this? Perhaps another data structure? Or a simpler function?

  • MySQL: Return grouped fields where the group is not empty, efficiently

    In one statement I'm trying to group rows of one table by joining to another table. I want to only get grouped rows where their grouped result is not empty. Ex. Items and Categories SELECT Category.id FROM Item, Category WHERE Category.id = Item.categoryId GROUP BY Category.id HAVING COUNT(Item.id) > 0 The above query gives me the results that I want but this is slow, since it has to count all the rows grouped by Category.id. What's a more effecient way? I was trying to do a Group By LIMIT to only retrieve one row per group. But my attempts failed horribly. Any idea how I can do this? Thanks

    This is a bad title for the question, but I'm not quite sure of a better one. I have a namespace called Globals with a class X in it. I also have a class called Globals. When I try to access Globals.X.StaticMember it tries to access the class Globals.X and complains that X doesn't exist. How do I reference the namespace Globals - ie ::Globals.X.StaticMember (:: doesn't compile).
