• Inserting asyncronously into Oracle, any benefits?

  I am using ODP.NET for loading data into Oracle. I am bulking inserts into groups of a 1000 rows each call. Is there any performance benefits in calling my load method asynchronously? So say I want to insert 10000 rows, instead of making 10 calls synchronously I make 10 calls asynchronously. My database is using ASSM right now but otherwise plenty of freelists are used of course. The database server has several cores as well. My initial tests seem to point to a performance increase, but maybe there is something I cannot see? Potential deadlock or contention issues? Of course, there is added complexity in handling transactions and such doing my load this way.

• how does serializable work in java?

  If I have an instance of a class that I store in a session I need to make it serializable. This class has a static variable, will this be serialized in every instance stored? The static variable is a reference to a cache containing a lot of data in the background. Will all of this data be serialized? If so, it seems preferable to make this variable transient and re-fetch the cache instance each time the instance is restored. Maybe not store the cache instance at all in the class. Will the constructor execute when a class is restored from a serialized state? if not is there any other method I can use to re-instate a transient variable?

I can look at the variable and it's the exact filename that is there, but when I run the code, it says not found!   I am looking for a way to add a button to a JQuery buttonset at runtime with javascript. if(response.success) { var menuItem = document.createElement('a'); $(menuItem).attr('href', response.href); $(menuItem).attr('category-id', response.id); $(menuItem).text(title); $("#menu-buttonset").append(menuItem); } I am adding the hyperlink to the div container of the buttonset using javascript, and then re-calling buttonset() on the container. $("#menu-buttonset").buttonset(); This however does not seem to rebuild the buttonset as I expected. I am not seeing any function in the JQuery API for this either. Can anyone provide some insight?

• Regarding Standard Oxford Format for vlfeat sift

  One of my upper classmen has gave me a data set for experimenting with vlfeat's SIFT, however, her extracted SIFT data for the frame part contains 5 dimensions. Recall from vl_sift function: [F,D] = VL_SIFT(I) Each column of D is the descriptor of the corresponding frame in F. F normally contains 4 dimensions which consists of x-coordinate, y-coordinate, scale, and orientation. So I asked her what is this 5th dimension, and she pointed me to search for "standard oxford format" for sift feature. The thing is I tried to search around regarding this standard oxford format and sift feature, but I got no luck in finding it at all. If somebody knows regarding this, could you please point me to the right direction?

• odp.net SQL query retrieve set of rows from two input arrays.

  I have a table with a primary key consisting of two columns. I want to retrieve a set of rows based on two input arrays, each corresponding to one primary key column. select pkt1.id, pkt1.id2, ... from PrimaryKeyTable pkt1, table(:1) t1, table(:2) t2 where pkt1.id = t1.column_value and pkt1.id2 = t2.column_value I then bind the values with two int[] in odp.net. This returns all different combinations of my resulting rows. So if I am expecting 13 rows I receive 169 rows (13*13). The problem is that each value in t1 and t2 should be linked. Value t1[4] should be used with t2[4] and not all the different values in t2. Using distinct solves my problem, but I'm wondering if my approach is wrong. Anyone have any pointers on how to solve this the best way? One way might be to use a for-loop accessing each index in t1 and t2 sequentially, but I wonder what will be more efficient. Edit: actually distinct won't solve my problem, it just did it based on my input-values (all values in t2 = 0)

Has anyone faced a similar problem? I do not want to statically register the receiver in the Manifest file, as I don't want my app to be started by connectivity changes.

• MyFaces Test Framework not working with JSF 2.1

  we have a lot of tests that uses Myfaces Test Framework for JSF 2.0. http://myfaces.apache.org/test/index.html Problem is we can't get it to work with JSF 2.1. Does anyone know a workaround or a way to solve this? When we run the tests we get the following error: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Application was not properly initialized at startup, could not find Factory: javax.faces.application.ApplicationFactory It works fine with jsf 2.0 though. A typical use case in our code: // code block; assertFalse("Error message not expected. ", facesContext .getMessages().hasNext()); JSF 2.1 has a few syntax changes so my guess would be that's the problem.

Thanks :) Its also defiantly at least connecting to the website as my firewall asked me if the Terminal was aloud to access it. At the moment not only is it displaying no errors its actually letting anything through and saving it.

  I'm trying to write (or just find an existing) PHP method that can take a link and extract the url. The trick is, it needs to hold under the weight of strange looking domains like: www.champa.kku.ac.th Looking at this one myself with human eyes, I still guessed it incorrectly: thought the domain would be kku.ac.th but that gives a dns error when visiting. • Implementation help... Subclass NSManagedObject?

  I'm working on an app where I have some products that I download in a list. The downloaded products are displayed in a table and each will is showing a detail view with more information. These same products can be saved as a favorite, and for this I am using Core Data. I'd like to be able to re-use a bunch of views for displaying the products, which means the stores object and the downloaded object would have to be the same kind. Now, how would I go about best implementing the objects? Can I make a class such as this: FavoriteProduct : NSManageObject // implementation and then subclass Product : FavoriteProduct // implementation ? The CD class just doesn't give me everything. What would be the best way to merge these two object classes so I have as little work ahead of me in terms of implementing the different views for each object? Basically, I just want to be able to call the same methods, etc. on the Product objects as I would on the ones that are FavoriteProduct objects, and re-use views for both kinds. There's only a bit of difference between the two (one is of course stored as a favorite and has some extra values such as notes, tags, while the Product one doesn't). Thanks in advance

  Application scenario: I have the (normal/permanent) /var/log mounted on an encrypted partition (/dev/LVG/log). /dev/LVG/log is not accessible at boot time, it needs to be manually activated later by su from ssh. A RAM drive (using tmpfs) is mounted to /var/log at init time (in rc.local). Once /dev/LVG/log is activated, I need a good way of appending everything in the tmpfs to /dev/LVG/log, before mounting it as /var/log. Any recommendations on what would be a good way of doing so?   I've created a logon trigger in MS SQL that needs to check dm_exec_sessions for a login. This login is the user listed in the connection string and has owner right to the database. If the login is verified, I need it to update a specific table and send an email. So far I've done just the following piece and it disabled my web site. The error I get is: "Logon failed for login 'dev' due to trigger execution. Changed database context to 'mydatabase'. Changed language setting to us_english." Any idea what I did wrong?   Hi All, Let me explain my scenarios I have branch called ca-dev and its pretty stable,now I have to revert about 100 revisions (ca-dev has about 400 revisions checked in total after it branched out )from different users which were checked in over 4 months before I am branching new branch called agile-dev.Can any body help me best way to do... I tried using tortise svn some got reverted some I got conflicts and I resolved my self blindly so build is breaking. • resignFirstResponder when tapping UITableView?

  I have a UITableView with two custom cells and each of them has a subview with a UITextField inside it. I have tried adding a UIButton on top of the UITableView and have it resignFirstResponder but that just means you won't be able to tap anywhere else - not even on the UITextFields to enter text. How do I make it so if I tap outside those two UITextFields, I can call resignFirstResponder, so the user can get back to the other cells? Thanks

• IE font size decrease does not cause select box height to decrease

  I have a font resize function on my page which increases the font size via javascript for the entire page. This works fine in most browsers except IE. When decreasing the font size after increasing it, the select boxes new height does not decrease, even though the font size is decreasing on it. Instead the smaller font appears to be padded with white space. Any ideas as to what IE is doing here, and a work around?

  Just something I'd like to play with, I would like to create a "virtual" file/directory in the File System of Linux or Mac OS X (Not sure if I can share the same code - does POSIX help?), for example /foo and then perform custom code when something is read or written to it. Similar how /dev/null allows for stuff like echo "Hello!" > /dev/null I don't care if it's in /dev, /proc or anywhere else, as said it's mainly something to play with...
