  • Using macro to check null values

    - by poliron
My C code contains many functions with pointers to different structs as parameters which shouldn't be NULL pointers. To make my code more readable, I decided to replace this code: if(arg1==NULL || arg2==NULL || arg3==NULL...) { return SOME_ERROR; } With that macro: NULL_CHECK(arg1,arg2,...) How should I write it, if the number of args is unknown and they can point to different structs?(I work in C99)

  • Excel-based Performance Reviews transformed into Web Application for Performance Management

    - by Webgui
HR TMS provides enterprise talent management solutions for healthcare, retail and corporate customers, focusing on performance management, compensation management and succession planning. As the competency of nurses and other healthcare workers is critical, the government, via the Joint Commission (JCAHO), tightly monitors their performances. On a regular basis, accredited healthcare organizations are required to review employee performance using a complex set of position dependent job descriptions and competencies. Middlesex Hospital managed their performance reviews for 2500 employees manually with Excel spreadsheets. This was a labor intensive process that proved to be error prone and difficult to manage. Reviews were not always where they belonged and the job descriptions and competencies for healthcare workers were difficult to keep accurate and up to date. As a result, when the Joint Commission visited and requested to see specific review documentation, there was intense stress. Middlesex Hospital needed to automate their review process, pull in the position information from those spreadsheets and be able to deliver reviews online. Users needed to have online access to those reviews from a standard browser. Although the manual system had its issues, it did have the advantage of being very comprehensive and familiar to users. The decision was made to provide a web-based solution that leveraged the look and feel of those spreadsheets in order to insure user acceptance of the system and minimize the training needed. • What is the C# equivalent of this Excel VBA code for Shapes?

    - by code4life
This is the VBA code for an Excel template, which I'm trying to convert to C# in a VSTO project I'm working on. By the way, it's a VSTO add-in: Dim addedShapes() As Variant ReDim addedShapes(1) addedShapes(1) = aBracket.Name ReDim Preserve addedShapes(UBound(addedShapes) + 1) addedShapes(UBound(addedShapes)) = "unique2" Set tmpShape = Me.Shapes.Range(addedShapes).Group At this point, I'm stumped by the addedShapes(), not sure what this is all about. Update: Matti mentioned that addedShapes() represents a variant array in VBA. So now I'm wondering what the contents of addedShapes() should be. Would this be the correct way to call the Shapes.Range() call in C#? List<string> addedShapes = new List<string>(); ... Shape tmpShape = worksheet.Shapes.get_Range (addedShapes.Cast<object>().ToArray()).Group(); I'd appreciate anyone who's worked with VBA and C# willing to make a comment on my question & problem!

  • What is the correct way to import and export out of Excel to SQL Server and back?

    - by Vecdid
Looking for the correct way and control to import and export of out of Microsoft Excel programmatically. I am willing to get a 3rd party control that supports this functionality, or I can create it myself, but looking to get this prioject done fast. The Datasource will be offline. Although when it is online for the upload/download if there is a control that would merge them, that would work also. But best is to remain offline, don't need the support headache. Security is also an issue. SSIS is not available on the shared database server. The website that hosts the asp.net application is not on the same machine as the sql server. Thank you.

  • Error in retrieving data from Excel File

    - by Sreejesh Kumar
I have an excel file. I wanted to pull the data from excel file to SQL Server table. And the data is successfully transferred. In the excel file, I removed a text from one column named "Risk" from one row.The text was lengthy one.now the package execution fails at the source ie from the excel file. The errors are shown as "[Audit [1]] Error: There was an error with output column "Risk" (100) on output "Excel Source Output" (9). The column status returned was: "DBSTATUS_UNAVAILABLE"." and "[Audit [1]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_INDUCEDTRANSFORMFAILUREONERROR. The "output column "Risk" (100)" failed because error code 0xC0209071 occurred, and the error row disposition on "output column "Risk" (100)" specifies failure on error. An error occurred on the specified object of the specified component. There may be error messages posted before this with more information about the failure." the error occurs only when I remove this particular text from this row.

  • What is the best way to join/merge two tables by column cell matching in Excel?

    - by blunders
I've found this excel add-in to buy that appears to do what I need, but I'd rather have code that's open to use as I wish. While a GUI is nice, it's not required. In an attempt to make the question more clear, I'm adding some two sample "input" tables in tab delimited form, and the resulting output table: SAMPLE_INPUT_TABLE_01 NAME<tab>Location John<tab>US Mike<tab>CN Tom<tab>CA Sue<tab>RU SAMPLE_INPUT_TABLE_02 NAME<tab>Age John<tab>18 Mike<tab>36 Tom<tab>54 Mary<tab>18 SAMPLE_OUTPUT_TABLE_02 NAME<tab>Age<Location> John<tab>18<tab>US Mike<tab>36<tab>CN Tom<tab>54<tab>CA Sue<tab>""<tab>RU Mary<tab>18<tab>"" If it matters, I'm using Office 2010 on Windows 7.

  • Using "Show values as" option in Excel 2007 pivot table when source is SSAS cube?

    - by Brad
I have an Excel 2007 pivot table showing "Year" across the top and "Month" down the side. What I am trying to do is represent the values as "% Difference" from the same month of the previous year. (Ex. If Jan-07 is $100,000 and Jan-08 is $120,000, I would like Jan-08 to show '20%'). However, every time I try to do this (using the "Show values as" tab of Value Field Settings) all of my numbers go to '#N/A'. Is there a way to do this using an Analysis Services cube as the data source? When I do this exact same thing using data on a different sheet as the data source for the pivot table, it works fine. Thanks in advance for any insight into this.

  • Does anyone know a better alternative to MS Excel's Solver?

    - by tundal45
My company has to crunch a lot of data and part of the process involves running the solver and plotting a graph through resulting data points. Obviously there is a lot of copy and paste involved and the whole process is shaky, error prone and all round cluster-fudge. I was wondering if there was an alternative to the solver that can be used so that even if we have to use excel to plot the final graph, there will be a lot less data that needs to be copied and pasted back and forth. It would be great especially if the tool could be easily integrated into a .NET application but I am open to suggestions that may require a little bit of code-fu to get this to work. Thanks!

  • How to delete VB code from an Excel sheet using C#?

    - by Bashir Magomedov
Does anyone know how to delete all VB code form an Excel workbook using C#? This code doesn’t work. It removes first (last one) VBComponent, but rises ArgumentException on second one. VBProject project = workbook.VBProject; int componentsCount = project.VBComponents.Count; for (int i = componentsCount; i >= 1; i--) { VBComponent component = project.VBComponents.Item(i); project.VBComponents.Remove(component); } Any suggestions? :)

  • Detecting if Excel file has been closed

    - by Charlie
Hi StackOverflow, I've spent the past 3 hours trawling the web for answers to no avail, so I hope you can help me. I'm writing an application which automates Excel. The application has an option to "show/hide the excel sheet" so you can look at it, make any final changes and so forth. Closing the application will naturally close the instance of Excel, however, there is a small chance that someone may exit out of Excel directly, without thinking. This breaks my application and I can't seem to find anyway of "checking if the same workbook is still open, and if not, re-opening it", before saving it I've tried all sorts of things: checking if the Excel Application is null (when it's !=null it will save correctly, but when it "is" null (or at least, something other than !=null it won't even hit the breakpoint so I'm completely lost :( Help please?

  • How can I make Excel's MIN function ignore zeroes in a set?

    - by mfg
In Excel, I have the following formula =(MIN(H69,H52,H35,H18)*(1/H18))*10 that is supposed to return the MIN of a range, and divide it by the current cell (*(1/H18) ), then multiply by 10. I am having difficulty with adding a type of NULLIF statement. I want to be able to have (the possibility for) blank rows, and have the MIN function ignore zero/blank fields while selecting the next lowest value (all are between 1.0-0.1). Is there a modifier i can apply to the MIN function to make it not compare zeroes in the MIN set? Is there a better funtion than MIN to use? This is to prevent the following situation: users will need to eliminate fields that are zeros from the form, theres 2 formula edits per entry, averaging 4 entries per use, so 8 possible errors per form use...

  • Analysis Services with excel as front end - is it possible to get the nicer UI that powerpivot provi

    - by AJM
I have been looking into PowerPivot and concluded that for "self service BI" and ahoc buidling of cubes it has its uses. In particular I like the enhanced UI that you get from using PowerPivot rather than just using a PivotTable hooked up to an analysis services datasource. However it seems that hooking up PowerPivot to an existing analysis services cube is not a solution for "organisational BI". It is not always desireable to suck millions of rows into excel at once and the interface between PowerPivot and analysis services is very poor in my book. Hence the question is can an existing analysis services solution get the enhanced ui features that power pivot brings, withoout using powerpivot as the design tool? If powerpivot is aimed ad self service/personal BI then it seems bizare that the UI for this is better than for bigger/more costly analysis services solutions.

  • Why am I getting "Unable to find manifest signing certificate in the certificate store" in my Excel Addin?

    - by Andy Parsons
I've got an Excel add-in project that was created a couple years back in Visual Studio 2008. It's got some changes to be made so I've upgraded to Visual Studio 2010 (the only IDE I am able to use). Not sure if this is causing the problem but it's background information. When I check out the code and compile it I get the error, "Error 1 Unable to find manifest signing certificate in the certificate store." Can anyone tell me what this means and how to fix it?

  • How do I automatically delete an Excel file after creating it on a server and returning it to the us

    - by David A Gibson
Hello, I am creating an Excel file on a web server, using OleDb to connect the the physical (well as physical as it can be) file and appending records. I am then returning a FilePathResult to the user via MVC, and would like to delete the physical file afterwards due to data protection concerns over the appended records. I have tried using a File.Delete in a Finally clause but I get a File Not Found error which must mean the file has gone when MVC is trying to send the file to the user. I thought about creating the File as a MemoryStream but I think OleDb needs a physical file to connect to so this isn't an option. Any suggestions on how to delete the file after returning it in one operation? Thanks

  • Using excel, how can I count the number of cells in a column containing the text "true" or "false"?

    - by Jay Elston
I have a spreadsheet that has a column of cells where each cell contains a single work. I would like to count the occurrences of some words. I can use the COUNTIF function for most words, but if the word is "true" or "false", I get 0. A B 1 apples 2 2 true 0 3 false 0 4 oranges 1 5 apples In the above spreadsheet table, I have these formulas in cells B1, B2, B3 and B4: =COUNTIF(A1:A5,"apples") =COUNTIF(A1:A5,"true") =COUNTIF(A1:A5,"false") =COUNTIF(A1:A5,"oranges) As you can see, I can count apples, but not true or false. I have also tried this: =COUNTIF(A1:A5,TRUE) But that does not work either. Note -- I am using Excel 2007.

  • Anyone using a web service as a data source in Excel 2007?

    - by Scott
Can I use a web service as a data soruce for Excel pivot tables? Currently, the soure data for the pivot table is being exported from the DB to a CSV file. Then the CSV file is loaded into a worksheet in the workbook. From there, a pivot table is created in the same workbook. We are looking to streamline this process. The SQL db and pivot tables are the constants. The pivot tables are generated dynamically from a public-facing website. This is not an internal app so the preference is to not connect directly to the DB.

  • How to mimic an excel spreadsheet on a website in vb.net?

    - by user1439659
I am building a website to capture data. I have many spreadsheets that are used for data entry or capture. Now I want to mimic these complex spreadsheets on the web forms but I am unsure of the correct control to use. Data entry must be allowed and live calculations also need to be made similar to formulas on normal excel spreadsheets. Later on the data must be captured into an SQL table. What would be the best control to use or method to mimic that functionality, albeit that the spreadsheet component is no longer available in visual studio 2010. Is it a data grid? Thanks

  • How do I get regex support in excel via a function, or custom function?

    - by blunders
It appears that regex (as in regular expressions) is not supported in excel, except via VBA. Is this so, and is it is, are there any "open source" custom VBA functions that support regex. In this case I'm looking to extract complex pattern within a string, but any implementation of a custom VBA function that expose support of regex within the function itself would be of use. If you know of semi-related function such as the IS function, feel feel to comment, though I'm really looking for a full regular expression implementation that is exposed via functions. Might even be open to a pay to use add-in if the implementation is good. If you have questions, please comment.

  • How to create "lock" (stop updating of cells) in Excel?

    - by Oozi
My question is pretty simple, but one to which I can't really find a solution myself. I use Excel quite frequently, but rarely the fancy stuff. Anyway, to the point: How do I create a dropmenu that will lock certain cells, rows or columns? (by lock I mean unable to change via hand and stops updating itself). Example: A1 = 5 B1 = A1 * 100 Can I "lock" the B1-cell, so that changing A1 will have no effect on B1 (Will remain at value 500)? I would preferably want to be able to "unlock" the cell as well, instead of simply making function into value. Is this possible? Thanks in advance!

  • Excel Interop: Fastest way to change color of portions of text in a huge range of cells

    - by Kyopaxa
There some articles about the fastest way to write data using Excel interop assigning directly an Array of data to the value of the range. Like: string[,] multidimensionalArrayData = new string[200, 3]; // (...) Fill multidimensionalArrayData with your data dataSheet.Range["A1:C200"].Value = multidimensionalArrayData; There are also some articles about how to change the Font color of a specific portion of text, for example (VB this time): With ActiveCell.Characters(Start:=3, Length:=3).Font .Name = "Arial" .FontStyle = "Regular" .Size = 10 .Color = "Red" .ThemeFont = xlThemeFontNone End With The question now is, what would be the fastest way to change the color of specific portions of text for thousands of cells? Currently, in my C# code, I have to do it cell by cell, with a horrible performance hit. Is there a way to fill an array of 'Characters' objects in C# and pass that array to a range in one go? Any other solutions?
