Author of System.Web.Mvc.Extensibility framework replied with = I think this is a known issue of asp.net mvc, i could not remember the exact location where I have read it, I suggest you post the issue in asp.net mvc issue tracker over codeplex. But before i post anything on issue tracker - i would like to understand first what exactly is wrong. Any help with that?

  • Are web service handler chains possible under IIS / ASP.NET

    I'm working with a client who wants me to implement a particular design in an IIS/ASP.NET environment. This design was already implemented in Java, but I am not sure it is possible using Microsoft technologies. In a Tomcat/Java environment one can create so call Handler Chains. In essence a handler runs on the server on which the web service is running and it intercepts the SOAP message coming to the web service. The handler can perform a number of tasks before passing control to the web service. Some of these tasks may refer to authentication and authorization. Moreover, one can create handler chains, such that the handlers can run in a particular sequence before passing control to the web service. This is a very elegant solution, as certain aspects of authentication and authorization can be automatically performed, without the developer of the client application and of the web service having to invest anything in it. The code for the client application and the web service is not affected. You may find a number of articles on internet on this subject by searching on Google for "web service handler chain". I performed searches for web service handlers in IIS or ASP.NET. I get some hits, but apparently handlers in IIS have another meaning than that described above. My question therefor is: Can handler chains (as available in Java and Tomcat) be created in IIS? If so, how (any article, book, forum...)?   • How to change id value when using Html.DropDownListFor helper in asp.net mvc 2.0?

    Hi I have a partial view that has something like this <%= Html.DropDownListFor(m => m.SelectedProductName, Model.ProductList, "Select a Product") %> Now you can create a new product and edit a existing product. Both editing and creating use the same form. The create is on the main page on load up. Edit popus up in a jquery u.i model dialog and renders a new partial view. So as far as the page is concerned is that I have 2 dropdown boxes with the same "id" which is bad since they should be unique. So how do I change the id? So when the edit loads it might have a id of "editSelectedProductName"? I tried to do this in the view model public string SelectedProductName{ get; set; } ViewModelConstructor() { SelectedProductName = "EditSelectedProductName"; } But it seems to not care and keeps using "SelectedProductName" as the product name.     Are there any similar frameworks like Sinatra, Ramaze etc in .NET? I'm in theory after a framework that let's me create an entire webapp with just one classfile (conceptually) like Sinatra. I'm going to use it for something work-internal, where ASP.NET MVC is too "big" (and I get confused by it's usage) and I have WebForms up to my ears right now (doing a big webforms based project, currently hating it ;) ) Any suggestions? Oh, and I need to be able to host it in IIS. I would go for IronRuby with Sinatra, but I can't find a step-by-step tut for setting it up in IIS ;)

  • IIS doesn't serve certain file extensions

    Hi, i have this weird issue on Win 2k3 server and IIS: Iis has several sites, in one of them i need to create a subdir and set up it as web application. I've noticed that if i create new directory and put some .js/.txt file into it, they will not be served by iis (IE gives an error Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage). If i put the same files in another old site's subdirectory it will show correctly. By sniffing traffic i've seen that iis reply connection state 200 and then drop completely any connection http://domain.com/test2/prova.txt GET /test2/prova.txt HTTP/1.1 Host: domain.com User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.7) Gecko/20091221 Firefox/3.5.7 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 300 Connection: keep-alive HTTP/1.x 200 OK If i rename file prova.txt in prova.asp for example it showing without problems so it shouldn't be permissions issue. After making some researches I've found out that it can be caused by missing mime types, I've checked out .txt and .js are present and served by aspnet_isapi.dll. And here comes another weird thing: if i remove mime mapping from directory's properties it's served correctly, but the same thing doesn't work with js. I'm really beginning to be out of ideas, is there someone who have some hint? Thanks in advance.

    I am a PHP developer migrating to C# ASP.Net Framework. As of right now, I am experienced in using Php for developing sites and I use CakePhp and Zend framework as my RAD tools to help me produce better applications. As I move over to ASP.NET, I have this view that C# ASP.Net framework itself is already a RAD tool and is equivalent to using Cakephp, Zend, or even Ruby on Rails. So I really shouldn't have no concerns trying to find a separate library for ASP.NET that will help me produce better applications. To me, in a sense the ASP.NET is already like a MVC cause it seperates the model from the view and the methods are almost like controllers. So as far as having the best tools are concerned, should I be satisfied with just using ASP.NET as my RAD tool.

    In my web.config I have configured a SiteMapProvider with securityTrimmingEnabled="true" and on my main master page is an asp:Menu control bound to an asp:SiteMapDataSource. In addition I have configured restricted access to all pages in a subfolder "Admin" (using another web.config in this subfolder). If I put a sitemapNode in Web.sitemap... <siteMapNode url="~/Admin/Default.aspx" title="Administration" description="" > ... only users in role "Admin" will have the menu item related to that siteMapNode. So this is working fine and as intended. Now I have defined a URL route in Global.asax to map the physical file to a new URL: System.Web.Routing.RouteTable.Routes.MapPageRoute("AdminHomeRoute", "Administration/Home", "~/Admin/Default.aspx"); But when I use this route-URL in the SiteMap file... <siteMapNode url="Administration/Home" title="Administration" description="" > ... it seems that security trimming does not work: The menu item is visible for all users. (Access to the page is still restricted though, so selecting the menu item by non-Admin users does not navigate to the restricted page.) Question: Is there any setting I've missed so far to make security trimming working with URL routing in ASP.NET 4.0 Web Forms? Did I do something wrong? Is there any work-around? Thank you for help!

    I have two pages in the first page i have a button called emails. when the user clicks on the email button it will take them to the emails pages and there i have 12 checkboxes and a OK button. the user can select as many checkboxes as they want. the checkboxes have peoples email in them. after they select it they click on the OK button and which will take them to the page1.aspx where they will fill rest of the information out and when they clicked on the emails button and came back to the page1 it will not erase any of their information. I have redirected the page to emails and back to page1 but i don't know how to save the checked emails from the emails page and clicking OK and taking back to the page1 so the other information on that page is already there not been erased.

  • Cannot Access Shared Folder From IIS

    From IIS I need to access a folder on another computer. Both servers are Window 2008 SP2, and they live in a Virtual Private Cloud on Amazon EC2. They reach one another by private IP -- they are in WORKGROUP, not a domain. I can access the shared folder manually when logged in to the client as Administrator. But IIS gets "access denied." Here's what I have done: Set File Sharing = ON Set Password Protected Sharing = OFF Set Public Folder Sharing = ON Shared the folder Added permission to the share: Everyone, Full Control Added permission to the share: NETWORK SERVICE, Full Control Verified that File & Printer Sharing is checked in Windows Firewall Opened port 445 to inbound traffic from local sources I tried adding <remote-machine-name>\NETWORK SERVICE to the share but it says it does not recognize the machine, which makes sense, I guess. As I said, from the other computer I have no trouble accessing the shared folder from my user account, but IIS is shut out. How does the file server even know the difference? I would assume that with Everyone given full control and password protected sharing turned off, it would not matter what the client user account is. In any case, how to solve? UPDATE: To clarify, I am not trying to serve up files on the share directly through IIS. Rather I am writing files to the share from my code (System.IO).

I know there is not handles clause in c# so i need some function that is called and assign the event handlers there.     I have very long select query which i need to filter based on some params, i'm trying to avoid having different stored procedures or if statements inside of single stored procedure by using partly dynamic TSQL... I will avoid long select just for example sake select a from b where c=@c or d=@d @c and @d are filter params, only one can filter at the same time but also both filters could be disabled. 0 for each of these means param is disables so i can create nvarchar with where statement in it... How do i integrate in here dynamic query so 'where' can be added to normal query. I cannot add all the query as big nvarchar because there is too many things in it which will require changes ( ie. when's, subqueries, joins)

  • Disable static content caching in IIS 7

    I'm a developer having what should be a relatively simple problem in IIS 7 on Windows Server 2008 R2. The problem is that IIS 7 is overzealously caching all static content on the server. It's caching all .html and .js content and not noticing when the content changes on disk unless I iisreset. I've tried the following: Deleting the local cache in my browser (I'm 99% positive this is a server caching issue) In IIS Admin in OutputCaching adding an .html extension and unchecking "User mode caching" and unchecking "Kernel-mode caching" In IIS Admin in OutputCaching adding an .html extension and checking "User mode caching" and selecting the radio for "Prevent all caching" In IIS Admin editing Output Cache Feature settings and unchecking "Enable cache" and "Enable kernel cache under OutputCaching. Running "C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config\appcmd set config "SharePoint - 80" -section: system.webServer/caching -enabled:false" Looking through applicationHost.config and disabling anything related to caching I could find. Nothing seems to work. I'm getting very frustrated. Can anyone please help?

  • make IIS 7.5 cache static content files over diferent pages

    On a Windows 2008 R2, using DNS and IIS I've established my development test server; i.e. I'll have a web application that I can browse on http://test.dev I've moved all the static content files like images, js files and css files into another application which is visible on http://cdn.test.dev test.dev, uses cdn.test.dev urls like http://cdn.test.dev/js/jquery.js to load js, css and images. When I first load "~/" of test.dev, all files will load with a response code of 200; when I press F5 in Firefox, all files, except the "~/default.aspx", will load with 304 response code; but pressing Ctrl+F5 loads them again with a 200 code; if I browse another url like "~/pages/" in test.dev, all of those static files will reload with a 200 code... Is this normal or I'm doing something wrong? Actually, I'm looking for a behavior like this: I want the client to load http://cdn.test.dev/js/jquery.js, only once. I want the client's browser to use this jquery.js file, from cache, in all other pages of test.dev Is this possible? When I attempt setting up a static IP address (using the configuration below), I receive the error "ping: unknown host www.google.com" when I attempt using ping. auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.0.100 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.0.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255 gateway 192.168.0.1 Ping works fine when the configuration is: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static I am a novice to server setup and administration.
