    Hi. I'm designing a little software in java. Don't know the term/definition to what I'm doing, but I'm prompting commands from java to the terminal. Something like this: Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("command"); I've done this before in linux, and I used the gksudo for commands that required root password. Is there any "gksudo" in os x? Any graphical popup asking for root password. Thanks =)

  • Getting a borderless window to receive mouseMoved events (Cocoa OSX)

    I have a little popup window used for selecting images sorted by groups, and I would like to add a selection box around whatever image is being hovered over. I am trying to this by overriding the mouseMoved event for the window but it seems that a window that has a border-less style mask receives no mouseMoved events even if you have set setAcceptsMouseMoved events to YES. Is there anyway to make a borderless window receive this events?

  • How to unmangle exported symbols from C++ in dynamic libraries in XCode on OSX

    I've been trying to develop a dynamic library in C++ that can be run-time loaded in an application. I finally got it working, but it's a little ugly. I have a function that takes a pointer to a C++ class as an argument, which looks like this: bool registerGrindPlugin( Grind::PluginManager* mgr ); But of course it's being exported as: _Z19registerGrindPluginPN5Grind13PluginManagerE I tried a .c file with a simple function and it exported fine as "registerGrindPlugin", but of course I can't pass a C++ class as the argument that way. Soo... my question is, is there a way to unmangle or alias the exported symbol so that I don't have to use a monstrosity like Z19registerGrindPluginPN5Grind13PluginManagerE in my dlsym call? I did see something about -alias_list as a linker option, but I haven't quite figured out how to use it in XCode. If that is the solution, can somebody provide some more details on how to use this?

  • App Engine SDK Console Not Fully Updated on OSX for GAE Release 1.3.4

    I downloaded and am running the latest SDK (in About GoogleAppleEngineLauncher, I see it is version 1.3.4.794), but when I open the SDK Console and go to the Task Queue section, I still see "Tasks will not run automatically. Select a queue to run tasks manually." I have not added the flag --disable_task_running, so I'm confused as to why it is still manual for me.

  • Cocoa WebView won't render all images on OSX 10.8

    I'm currently developing an application for OS X, backwards compatible with OS X 10.6. At some point I create a WebView in which I load html content that I create dynamically. The html content is formed only of image links <img src= and text, there is no javascript or anything of that kind. All the images (there are only 5 png images) are stored locally and their size is 4 KB. The problem I have is that some images (those that are not on the visible side of the "scroll"), the very first time I run the application,the images are not shown unless I drag the window to another screen or load again the view controller that contains the WebView. In those cases the images appear on the "scroll" even if they are offsite. I've tried creating the WebView both with IB and programatically, I've used WebPreferences like Autosaves, AllowsAnimatedImages … I've tried using NSURLCache to load each image so that the WebView will get access to them easier ... same result.   • Creating a popup tool bar in a full screen NSOpenGLView (OSX Cocoa)

    I have a Cocoa app in which one of my NSOpenGLViews can go into full screen mode (I do this with the method enterFullScreenMode:withOptions:). I would like to create a little widget that when you mouse over it, a toolbar pops up with some different controls. I am wondering what would be the best way to implement this widget? At first I thought about using a panel but I don't think you can bring up any windows when in full screen mode. Also, it seems that you can't add a subview to an NSOpenGLView? Are these two assumptions correct? What else could I use to accomplish this?

  • OSX: Programmatically added subviews not responding to mouse down events

    I have 3 subclasses: a Block class, a Row class and a Table class. All are subclasses of NSView. I have a Table added with IB which programmatically displays 8 rows, each of which displays 8 blocks. I overrode the mouseDown: method in Block to change the background color to red, but it doesn't work. Still if I add a block directly on top of the Table with IB it does work so I can't understand why it won't work in the first case.     I am following the best answer on Finding all files containing a text string in linux to search string in my project. This is my command grep --include=*.rb -rnw . -e "pattern" Zsh tells me that zsh: no matches found: --include=*.rb It seems that grep doesn't support --include option. When I type grep --help, it returns usage: grep [-abcDEFGHhIiJLlmnOoPqRSsUVvwxZ] [-A num] [-B num] [-C[num]] [-e pattern] [-f file] [--binary-files=value] [--color=when] [--context[=num]] [--directories=action] [--label] [--line-buffered] [--null] [pattern] [file ...] no --include here. Is my grep version too old? Or is there something wrong with my command?

  • Best format for hard drive for Windows and Mac?

    I have a 500 GB USB External Hard Drive. I need four partitions on it, for the following purposes: 160 GB for a bootable backup of my Mac. 160 GB for a bootable backup of my Windows. 11 GB for a bootable Snow Leopard Install Disk Rest as for file storage. Now I need a partition table which will get recognised on both Windows and Mac, without needing extra software on Windows, which will let me keep bootable copies of both OS'es, but let me access the file storage from both OS'es. Currently, I have a GUI Partition Table, with Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Partitions for the two backups, Mac OS Extended for the Install Disk, and NTFS for the file storage. While this gets recognised perfectly on my Mac, thanks to an NTFS for Mac driver from Paragon, when connected to Windows, the drive is detected by the machine (listed in Safely Remove USB), but not recognised in Windows Explorer unless I install MacDrive, which is not feasible for me to install on public Windows Machines I might wanna access my storage area on. Can someone recommend the best combination of formats and software/drivers to get this done seamlessly?

  • Why i disconnect every few seconds? using USB wireless adapter

    i know it's for ubuntu questions..but mint and ubuntu are very similiar and i had the same problem with linux ubuntu too..so i think this is the right place for my question anyway i don't have experience with drivers and other things,after installing Linux on my machine( i did dist-upgrade btw) everything seem to be great because i didn't have to install any driver, after a while i realized that my connection stop after few minutes(actually it shows that I'm connected but it's not) so i have to reconnect and after few minutes it disconnect again. I'm using Alfa USB wireless adapter AWS036H, and my Linux version is 11 i think the driver i'm using is Realtek i searched in the Internet and i found nothing. these are some outputs of few things   • Redirecting or routing all traffic to OpenVPN on a Mac OS X client

    I have configured an OpenVPN (2.2.1) server on an Ubuntu virtual machine in the Amazon elastic compute cloud. The server is up and running. I have installed OpenVPN (2.2.1) on a Mac OS X (10.8.2) client and I am using the openvpn2 binary to connect (in opposition to other clients like Tunnelblick or Viscosity). I can connect with the client and successfully ping or ssh the server through the tunnel. However, I can't redirect all internet traffic through the VPN even if I use the push "redirect-gateway def1 bypass-dhcp" option in the server.conf configurations. When I connect to the server with these configurations, I get a successful connection, but then an infinite series of error messages: "write UDPv4: No route to host (code=65)". Traffic routing seems to be compromised because I am not able to access anything anymore, not even the OpenVPN server (by pinging 10.8.0.1 for instance). This is beyond me. I am finding little help on the web and don't know what to try next. I don't think it is a problem of forwarding the traffic on the server since, first, I have also took care of that and, second, I can't even ping the VPN server locally through the tunnel (or ping anything at all for that matter).   • Issues writing to serial port on MAC OSX using unistd.h in c

    I am trying to write to a bluetooth device on MAC OSX using the unistd.h Linux functions in c. I am connecting fine and writing the first few bytes with success. When I try to write other commands to it (there are bytes added to the write buffer every 15ms), I don't see any results even though the write() function returns 1 (write success). If you start a write and it doesn't finish by the time you try to start another write (since it is non-blocking), could that possibly screw up the initial write? (If so, is there any way to check if a write has completed?)   • Accessing the physical IP address of a computer on my network that is no longer available

    I'm trying to find out how to access the IP address of a computer (macbook pro) that I once had on my network at home. Does terminal store the 'connected' or 'linked' computer ID or IP of a networked computer anywhere that I can access after the laptop is no-longer within range? The laptop was part of my airport extreme network, its now out of range (stolen!), and I would like to know if its possible to discover the physical address of that laptop, even though I no-longer have physical access to the laptop. I have my airport extreme configured (somewhere??) to sniff out that laptop if it comes within range, and then connect to it. Where would this 'configured info' be stored on my desktop?

    Hi all, I rather cleverly (or not in hindsight) installed RVM, which kept hanging whilst compiling Rubies. I have removed the .rvm directory but now my system has reverted to Ruby 1.8.7 i.e. when I type: ruby -v which ruby they both point to 1.8.7. How do I get the ruby command to point to my 1.9.1 installation, which is located in /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1? I'm on OSX 10.6. Thanks Robin

    I'm trying to use CFBundleDocumentTypes to associate a custom file extension with my application. As far as I can tell, this seems to "work" -- JavaApplicationStub launches my application when I double click the file. However, no callback is registered through the ApplicationListener events I setup in java. I used the code listed in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1460193/set-default-file-association-mac-os-x-java-package-maker-installer to do the file association, and the file association itself appears fine, but it seems as if it is the application stub trying to launch the file, and thus fails. I added the Apple ApplicatinListener code to my java application at (similar to http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/Java/Reference/1.5.0/appledoc/api/index.html?com/apple/eawt/Application.html) but it doesn't seem like my application ever gets a call back. the code is similar to Application.getApplicatin().addApplicationListener( new ApplicationAdapter() { public void handleOpenFile(ApplicationEvent evt) { //some logging message here that I never get} }); I should perhaps mention that I'm also using SWT... Any help would be appreciated
