  • Can I make this two LINQ queries into one query only?

    - by Holli
    From a List of builtAgents I need all items with OptimPriority == 1 and only 5 items with OptimPriority == 0. I do this with two seperate queries but I wonder if I could make this with only one query. IEnumerable<Agent> priorityAgents = from pri in builtAgents where pri.OptimPriority == 1 select pri; IEnumerable<Agent> otherAgents = (from oth in builtAgents where oth.OptimPriority == 0 select oth).Take(5);

What am I missing?? protected void submitButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { CfdDataClassesDataContext db = new CfdDataClassesDataContext(); string sOfficeSought = officesSoughtDropDownList.SelectedValue; int iOfficeSought; Int32.TryParse(sOfficeSought, out iOfficeSought); Account act = new Account() { FirstName = firstNameTextBox.Text, MiddleName = middleNamelTextBox.Text, LastName = lastNameTextBox.Text, Suffix = suffixTextBox.Text, CampaignName = campaignNameTextBox.Text, Address1 = address1TextBox.Text, Address2 = address2TextBox.Text, TownCity = townCityTextBox.Text, State = stateTextBox.Text, ZipCode = zipTextBox.Text, Phone = phoneTextBox.Text, Fax = faxTextBox.Text, PartyAffiliation = partyAfilliatinoTextBox.Text, EmailAddress = emailTextBox.Text, BankName = bankNameTextBox.Text, BankMailingAddress = bankAddressTextBox.Text, BankTownCity = bankTownCityTextBox.Text, BankState = bankStateTextBox.Text, BankZip = bankZipTextBox.Text, TreasurerFirstName = treasurerFirstNameTextBox.Text, TreasurerMiddleName = treasurerMiddleNamelTextBox.Text, TreasurerLastName = treasurerLastNameTextBox.Text, TreasurerMailingAddress = treasurerMailingAddressTextBox.Text, TreasurerTownCity = treasurerTownCityTextBox.Text, TreasurerState = treasurerStateTextBox.Text, TreasurerZipCode = treasurerZipTextBox.Text, TreasurerPhone = treasurerPhoneTextBox.Text //OfficeSought = iOfficeSought }; act.Suffix = suffixTextBox.Text; db.SubmitChanges(); }

  • How to compare a string column(as DateTime) in LINQ?

    - by lyon
    I have a database with a ValidDate field - it's a string(we made a mistake, it should be a datetime, but we can't modify the database now.) and now I want to compare this filed with a parameter(validDateStart) from the website: priceList = priceList.Where(p => Convert.ToDateTime(p.ValidDate) >= Convert.ToDateTime(validDateStart)); var list = initPriceList.ToList(); But I get an error: The method ToDateTime is not implemented. Can anybody give me some help? Thanks!

  • Cannot add an entity that already exists. (LINQ to SQL)

    - by Vicheanak
    Hello guys, in my database there are 3 tables CustomerType CusID EventType EventTypeID CustomerEventType CusID EventTypeID Dim db = new CustomerEventDataContext Dim newEvent = new EventType newEvent.EventTypeID = txtEventID.text db.EventType.InsertOnSubmit(newEvent) db.SubmitChanges() 'To select the last ID of event' Dim lastEventID = (from e in db.EventType Select e.EventTypeID Order By EventTypeID Descending).first() Dim chkbx As CheckBoxList = CType(form1.FindControl("CheckBoxList1"), CheckBoxList) Dim newCustomerEventType = New CustomerEventType Dim i As Integer For i = 0 To chkbx.Items.Count - 1 Step i + 1 If (chkbx.Items(i).Selected) Then newCustomerEventType.INTEVENTTYPEID = lastEventID newCustomerEventType.INTSTUDENTTYPEID = chkbxStudentType.Items(i).Value db.CustomerEventType.InsertOnSubmit(newCustomerEventType) db.SubmitChanges() End If Next It works fine when I checked only 1 Single ID of CustomerEventType from CheckBoxList1. It inserts data into EventType with ID 1 and CustomerEventType ID 1. However, when I checked both of them, the error message said Cannot add an entity that already exists. Any suggestions please? Thx in advance.

  • How do I return the ancestors of an object with LINQ?

    - by Chris
    I have a District class that looks like this: public class District { public int Id { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public District Parent { get; set; } public IEnumerable<District> Ancestors { get { /* what goes here? */ } } } I would like to be able to get a list of each District's ancestors. So if District "1.1.1" is a child of District "1.1", which is a child of District "1", getting Ancestors on District "1.1.1" would return a list that contains the District objects whose names are "1.1" and "1". Does this involve the yield return statement (I never totally understood that)? Can it be done in one line?

  • How can I use linq to initialize an array of repeated elements?

    - by Eric
    At present, I'm using something like this to build a list of 10 objects: myList = (from _ in Enumerable.Range(0, 9) select new MyObject {...}).toList() This is based off my python background, where I'd write: myList = [MyObject(...) for _ in range(10)] Note that I want my list to contain 10 instances of my object, not the same instance 10 times. Is this still a sensible way to do things in C#? Is there a cost to doing it this way over a simple for loop?

  • How do i set Savepoints for Linq to SQL and use "NO" ExecuteCommand ?

    - by nik
    TransactionScope TransactionABC = new TransactionScope(); try { context.Connection.Open(); { context.ExecuteCommand("insert into test (test) values (1)") context.SubmitChanges(); context.ExecuteCommand("savepoint test"); context.ExecuteCommand("insert into test (test) values (2)") context.SubmitChanges(); context.ExecuteCommand("rollback to test"); } TransactionABC.Complete(); TransactionABC.Dispose(); } catch (Exception ec) { MessageBox.Show(" ", ec.Message); } finally { context.Connection.Close(); } It works, but only with ExecuteCommand. I want to use a function, because i can't see what happens in the savepoint !

  • How can I use Linq to create an array of dictionaries from XML?

    - by Duke
    Given the following XML structure: <courses> <course> <title>foo</title> <description>bar</description> </course> ... </courses> How could I create an array of dictionaries such that each dictionary contains all the element/value pairs within a course? What I have right now generates an array whose elements contain a single key/value dictionary for each element/value pair in a course: XElement x = XElement.Parse("...xml string..."); var foo = (from n in x.Elements() select n) .Elements().ToDictionary(y => y.Name, y => y.Value); Produces: [0] => {[course, foo]} [1] => {[description, bar]} What I'd like is this: [0] => {[course, foo], [description, bar]}

  • What's the meaning of the angle brackets on LINQ methods in Intellisense? (Contains<>, Count<>, Dis

    - by user312758
    They usually involve generics. But some methods with generics don't have them, and not all extension methods have them. They've just "been there" since day one, we've all seen them; but I realized I still don't know what they mean, and I can't find the answer anywhere. Now it's really bugging me. Google just turns up results that are about XML, etc. Is this officially documented anywhere? Thanks. EDIT: Well that's just great. Since I just created an account to make my first Stack Overflow post, to get an answer for this burning question; I'm not allowed to post my pretty Intellisense picture, or create a new tag "angle-brackets". I love Stack Overflow, but... what a welcome! Maybe my problem is that they aren't actually called "angle brackets"... ?? Anyway, I guess if you really want to see my beautiful screenshot you could manually go to: http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/6a6c2f3268.png Bump me up please so I can include it in the post, thanks. ;)

  • How to use LINQ to SQL to create ranked search results?

    - by quakkels
    I am looking for a way to use l2s to return ranked result based on keywords. I would like to take a keyword and be able to search the table for that keyword using .contains(). The trick that I haven't been able to figure out is how to get a count of how many times that keyqord appears, and then .OrderByDescending() based on that count. So if i had some thing like: string keyword = "SomeKeyword"; IQueryable<Article> searchResults = from a in GenesisRepository.Article where a.Body.Contains(keyword) select a; What is the best way to order searchResults based on the number of times keyword appears in a.Body? Thanks for any help.

  • Where should my "filtering" logic reside with Linq-2-SQL and ASP.NET-MVC in View or Controller?

    - by Nate Bross
    I have a main Table, with several "child" tables. TableA and TableAChild1 and TableAChild2. I have a view which shows the information in TableA, and then has two columns of all items in TableAChild1 and TableAChild2 respectivly, they are rendered with Partial views. Both child tables have a bit field for VisibleToAll, and depending on user role, I'd like to either display all related rows, or related rows where VisibleToAll = true. This code, feels like it should be in the controller, but I'm not sure how it would look, because as it stands, the controller (limmited version) looks like this: return View("TableADetailView", repos.GetTableA(id)); Would something like this be even work, and would it be bad what if my DataContext gets submitted, would that delete all the rows that have VisibleToAll == false? var tblA = repos.GetTableA(id); tblA.TableAChild1 = tblA.TableAChild1.Where(tmp => tmp.VisibleToAll == true); tblA.TableAChild2 = tblA.TableAChild2.Where(tmp => tmp.VisibleToAll == true); return View("TableADetailView", tblA); It would also be simple to add that logic to the RendarPartial call from the main view: <% Html.RenderPartial("TableAChild1", Model.TableAChild1.Where(tmp => tmp.VisibleToAll == true); %>

  • Using Linq-To-SQL I'm getting some weird behavior doing text searches with the .Contains method. Loo

    - by Nate Bross
    I have a table, where I need to do a case insensitive search on a text field. If I run this query in LinqPad directly on my database, it works as expected Table.Where(tbl => tbl.Title.Contains("StringWithAnyCase")) // also, adding in the same constraints I'm using in my repository works in LinqPad // Table.Where(tbl => tbl.Title.Contains("StringWithAnyCase") && tbl.IsActive == true) In my application, I've got a repository which exposes IQueryable objects which does some initial filtering and it looks like this var dc = new MyDataContext(); public IQueryable<Table> GetAllTables() { var ret = dc.Tables.Where(t => t.IsActive == true); return ret; } In the controller (its an MVC app) I use code like this in an attempt to mimic the LinqPad query: var rpo = new RepositoryOfTable(); var tables = rpo.GetAllTables(); // for some reason, this does a CASE SENSITIVE search which is NOT what I want. tables = tables.Where(tbl => tbl.Title.Contains("StringWithAnyCase"); return View(tables); The column is defiend as an nvarchar(50) in SQL Server 2008. Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated!

  • get count from Iqueryable<T> in linq-to-sql?

    - by Pandiya Chendur
    The following code doesn't seem to get the correct count..... var materials = consRepository.FindAllMaterials().AsQueryable(); int count = materials.Count(); Is it the way to do it.... Here is my repository which fetches records... public IQueryable<MaterialsObj> FindAllMaterials() { var materials = from m in db.Materials join Mt in db.MeasurementTypes on m.MeasurementTypeId equals Mt.Id where m.Is_Deleted == 0 select new MaterialsObj() { Id = Convert.ToInt64(m.Mat_id), Mat_Name = m.Mat_Name, Mes_Name = Mt.Name, }; return materials; }

  • GridView ObjectDataSource LINQ Paging and Sorting using multiple table query.

    - by user367426
    I am trying to create a pageing and sorting object data source that before execution returns all results, then sorts on these results before filtering and then using the take and skip methods with the aim of retrieving just a subset of results from the database (saving on database traffic). this is based on the following article: http://www.singingeels.com/Blogs/Nullable/2008/03/26/Dynamic_LINQ_OrderBy_using_String_Names.aspx Now I have managed to get this working even creating lambda expressions to reflect the sort expression returned from the grid even finding out the data type to sort for DateTime and Decimal. public static string GetReturnType<TInput>(string value) { var param = Expression.Parameter(typeof(TInput), "o"); Expression a = Expression.Property(param, "DisplayPriceType"); Expression b = Expression.Property(a, "Name"); Expression converted = Expression.Convert(Expression.Property(param, value), typeof(object)); Expression<Func<TInput, object>> mySortExpression = Expression.Lambda<Func<TInput, object>>(converted, param); UnaryExpression member = (UnaryExpression)mySortExpression.Body; return member.Operand.Type.FullName; } Now the problem I have is that many of the Queries return joined tables and I would like to sort on fields from the other tables. So when executing a query you can create a function that will assign the properties from other tables to properties created in the partial class. public static Account InitAccount(Account account) { account.CurrencyName = account.Currency.Name; account.PriceTypeName = account.DisplayPriceType.Name; return account; } So my question is, is there a way to assign the value from the joined table to the property of the current table partial class? i have tried using. from a in dc.Accounts where a.CompanyID == companyID && a.Archived == null select new { PriceTypeName = a.DisplayPriceType.Name}) but this seems to mess up my SortExpression. Any help on this would be much appreciated, I do understand that this is complex stuff.

  • How can I merge two Linq IEnumerable<T> queries without running them?

    - by makerofthings7
    How do I merge a List<T> of TPL-based tasks for later execution? public async IEnumerable<Task<string>> CreateTasks(){ /* stuff*/ } My assumption is .Concat() but that doesn't seem to work: void MainTestApp() // Full sample available upon request. { List<string> nothingList = new List<string>(); nothingList.Add("whatever"); cts = new CancellationTokenSource(); delayedExecution = from str in nothingList select AccessTheWebAsync("", cts.Token); delayedExecution2 = from str in nothingList select AccessTheWebAsync("1", cts.Token); delayedExecution = delayedExecution.Concat(delayedExecution2); } /// SNIP async Task AccessTheWebAsync(string nothing, CancellationToken ct) { // return a Task } I want to make sure that this won't spawn any task or evaluate anything. In fact, I suppose I'm asking "what logically executes an IQueryable to something that returns data"? Background Since I'm doing recursion and I don't want to execute this until the correct time, what is the correct way to merge the results if called multiple times? If it matters I'm thinking of running this command to launch all the tasks var AllRunningDataTasks = results.ToList(); followed by this code: while (AllRunningDataTasks.Count > 0) { // Identify the first task that completes. Task<TableResult> firstFinishedTask = await Task.WhenAny(AllRunningDataTasks); // ***Remove the selected task from the list so that you don't // process it more than once. AllRunningDataTasks.Remove(firstFinishedTask); // TODO: Await the completed task. var taskOfTableResult = await firstFinishedTask; // Todo: (doen't work) TrustState thisState = (TrustState)firstFinishedTask.AsyncState; // TODO: Update the concurrent dictionary with data // thisState.QueryStartPoint + thisState.ThingToSearchFor Interlocked.Decrement(ref thisState.RunningDirectQueries); Interlocked.Increment(ref thisState.CompletedDirectQueries); if (thisState.RunningDirectQueries == 0) { thisState.TimeCompleted = DateTime.UtcNow; } }

  • How to write simple Where Clause for dynamic filtering in linq when we use groups in join

    - by malik
    I have simple search page i want to filter the results. var TransactionStats = from trans in context.ProductTransactionSet.Include("SPL") select new { trans.InvoiceNo, ProductGroup = from tranline in trans.ProductTransactionLines group tranline by tranline.ProductTransaction.TransactionID into ProductGroupDetil select new { TransactionDateTime = ProductGroupDetil.Select (Content => Content.TransactionDateTime) } }; I want to use TransactionDateTime in where clause when required. if (_FilterCrieteria.DateFrom.HasValue) { TransactionStats.Where ( a => a.ProductGroup.Where ( dt => dt.DateofTransaction >= _FilterCrieteria.DateFrom && dt.DateofTransaction >= _FilterCrieteria.DateFrom ) ) } Can any one correct the syntax?

  • After grouping by, can I refer to the elements of the original IEnumerable in a LINQ query?

    - by michielvoo
    Example: from OriginalObject in ListOfOriginalObjects group new CustomObject { X = OriginalObject.A, Y = OriginalObject.B } by OriginalObject.Z into grouping select new GroupOfCustomObjects { Z = grouping.Key, C = OriginalObject.C, group = grouping } In the select part of the query, I'd like to add a property (OriginalObject.C) to the type GroupOfCustomObjects. But it seems that OriginalObject is out of scope in that part of the query. I can sort of understand why, since I am not grouping on that property and I am also not making that property part of CustomObject that I'm grouping. One workaround is to add a property C to CustomObject and the in the GroupOfCustomObjects read the value of the first CustomObject in the grouping. My issue with that is that I'm adding a property to an object that doesn't need it (CustomObject), just to be able to add it to the GroupOfCustomObjects. I hope I have explained this properly! Is there a way to refer to the OriginalObject that the query starts with? Thanks!

  • Why does a Linq Cast<T> operation fail when I have an implicit cast defined?

    - by Ryan Versaw
    I've created two classes, with one of them having an implicit cast between them: public class Class1 { public int Test1; } public class Class2 { public int Test2; public static implicit operator Class1(Class2 item) { return new Class1{Test1 = item.Test2}; } } When I create a new list of one type and try to Cast<T> to the other, it fails with an InvalidCastException: List<Class2> items = new List<Class2>{new Class2{Test2 = 9}}; foreach (Class1 item in items.Cast<Class1>()) { Console.WriteLine(item.Test1); } This, however, works fine: foreach (Class1 item in items) { Console.WriteLine(item.Test1); } Why is the implicit cast not called when using Cast<T>?

  • Can you use the same Enum in multiple entities in Linq-to-SQL?

    - by Mark
    In my persistence layer, I've declared a load of Enums to represent tables containing reference data (i.e. data never changes). In Linq2SQL, I am able to set the type of an entity property to an enum type and all is well, but as soon as I set a second entity's property to use the same enum type, the Code Generator (MSLinqToSQLGenerator) start generating an empty code file. I assume that MSLinqToSQLGenerator is quietly crashing. The question is why, and are there any work-arounds? Anyone else experienced this problem?
