  • Excel 2013: VLookup for cells that share common characters within cell but are both surrounded by other non-matching text

    I am pulling information from 2 different databases. The databases use different naming protocol for the exact same item/specified placement however they always have certain components of the name in common. The length of these names can vary throughout each of the databases (see the pic below) so I don't think counting characters would help. I need a formula (probably a vlookup/match/index of some sort) to pair up the names from the 2nd database name with the 1st database name and then place it in the adjacent column(B2) on sheet1. Until this point I've had to match, copy, and paste the pairs manually from one sheet to the other and it takes FOREVER. Any help would be much appreciated!!! For example: Database1 Name in Sheet1,A2: 728x90_Allstate_629930_ALL_JUL_2013_MASSACHUSETTSAUTO_BAN_MSN_ROSMSNAUTOSMASSACHUSETTS_7.2.13 Database2 Name in Sheet2, A13: BAN_MSN_ROSMSNAUTOSMASSACHUSETTS728X90_728X90_DFA Common Factors: "ROSMSNAUTOSMASSACHUSETTS" & "728X90" Therefore A2 and A13 need to pair up In some cases, Database 1 and 2 will have a common name aspect but sizing will be different. They need to have BOTH aspects in common in order to be paired so I would NOT want the below example to pair up. Database1 Name in Sheet1,A2: 728x90_Allstate_629930_ALL_JUL_2013_MASSACHUSETTSAUTO_BAN_MSN_ROSMSNAUTOSMASSACHUSETTS_7.2.13 Database2 Name in Sheet2, A12: BAN_MSN_ROSMSNAUTOSMASSACHUSETTS300X250_300X250_DFA Common Factor: Only "ROSMSNAUTOSMASSACHUSETTS" matches. "728x90" is not equal to "300X250" - Sizing is different so they should not be paired.

  • How can I write an excel formula to do row based calculations; where certain conditions need to be met?

    I am given: An excel sheet contains around 200 tasks (described in rows 2-201 in Column A). Each task can be elegible for a max of two projects (There are 4 projects in total, called "P1-P4" - drop down lists in Columns B and D); and this with a specific %-rate allocation (columns C & E - Column C refers to the Project Column B, and Column E refers to the Project in Column D). Column F shows the amount of work days spent on each task. Example in row 2: Task 1 (Column A); P1 (Column B) ; 80% (Column C) ; P3 (Column D) ; 20% (Column E) ; 3 (Column F) I need to know the sum of the working days spent on Project P3 respecting the %-rate for elegibility. I know how to calculate it for each Task (each Row) - e.g. for Task 1: =IF(B2="P3";C2*F2)+IF(D2="P3";E2*F2) However instead of repeating this for each task, I need a formula that adds them all together. Unfortunately the following formula shows me an error: =IF(B2:B201="P3";C2:C201*F2:F201)+IF(D2:D201="P3";E2:E201*F2:F201) Can anyone help please? Thank you!!

  • Parsing out known strings from Excel spreadsheet

    I have an Excel spreadsheet that has a list of names in column A. What I'd like to do is parse out all the names in the column that I don't know and their rows. For example, in a spreadsheet of 100 names, let's say I know 39 of them and their row data. I don't need to see them in the spreadsheet - what I need to see are the remaining 61 that I don't know and their rows. Hope that makes sense, and that something like this is possible! Thanks!

    I'm embarrassed that I'm asking this question, but here I go: Suppose you have the following function foo. When I'm running a for loop, I'd like it to skip the remainder of foo when foo initially returns the value of 0. However, break doesn't work when it's inside a function. As it's currently written, I get an error message, no loop to break from, jumping to top level.     Hello! I'm embedding a svg-graphic on my website and i'd like to manipulate the rest of the website with javascript-commands which are in the svg - though i'm not sure if this is possible. Let me elaborate: I've got a worldmap in svg, i want to click on a country and this click should run an ajax-call and load relevant information of this country into a div in the html site where the svg is embedded. "onclick="location.href='xxx'"" redirects to the respective site which is fine, but i'd prefer to run a js-function that fetches the site with ajax - but running a javascript-function in the svg only seems to work for functions and elements defined in the svg, not outside of it. Is it basically possible to manipulate anything outside the svg through a js-function in the svg? How? Regards Christian

    I'm making some tedious calls to a bunch of functions, but the parameters will be determined at runtime. I wrote a simple function to keep my code DRY but giving it a name is unnecessary. I don't use this function anywhere else. I'm trying to do it the way I would in Scheme, but I get a void-function error: (let ((do-work (lambda (x y z) (do-x x) (do-y y) ;; etc ))) (cond (test-1 (do-work 'a 'b 'c)) (test-2 (do-work 'i 'j 'k)))) I could stick it all into an apply (e.g., (apply (lambda ...) (cond ...))) but that isn't very readable. Is there a better way?

    Hey all, Let's take the case of a simple class: QScriptEngine engine; class MyClass { public: QScriptValue foo(QScriptContext*, QScriptEngine*); MyClass(); }; QScriptValue MyClass:foo(QScriptContext* context, QScriptEngine* eng) { //something } MyClass::MyClass() { QScriptValue self = engine.newFunction(this->foo, 0); .... } The above function gives me an error: no matching function for call to ‘QScriptEngine::newFunction(<unresolved overloaded function type>, int)’ I have tried using engine.newFunction(reinterpret_cast<FunctionSignature>(foo), 0); but this gives me an error which basically says that the compiler is not aware of a keyword called 'FunctionSignature'. It really doesn't matter). I want to define fn as if the following line was in my code: var fn = function(){blah1;blah2;blah3; } ; How do I do that? The best I've come up with is the following: var fn = eval("var f = function(){ return "+fnStr+";}; f() ;") ; This seems to do the trick, even though it uses the dreaded eval(), and uses a slightly convoluted argument. Can I do better? I.e. either not use eval(), or supply it with a simpler argument?

    I would like to temporarily override the kill-new function. I have a way I want to reimplement kill-new that works in only in certain contexts, but I don't want to reimplement a special version of kill-region on top of that. (kill-new is called from kill-region) Since Emacs Lisp uses dynamic scoping, this should be possible, right? (On the other hand, it seems that this would be an unsafe thing to support, and it might make me a bit nervous knowing that it is possible...) I have experimented with using let and fset, but so far have found no way to get it to work as expected. So, hopefully someone can fill in the blank in the following pseudocode: (defun my-kill-new (string &optional replace yank-handler) (message "in my-kill-new!")) Thanks, Mike Background information: I'm doing this because the original source code came with a VS project designed to compile as a static (.lib) library. In order to use ctypes/Python, I'm converting the project to a DLL. I started a VS project as a DLL and imported the original source code. The project builds into a DLL, but none of the functions (including functions such as the one listed above) are exported (as confirmed by both the absence of dllexport in the source code and tools such as DLL Export Viewer). I tried to follow the general advice here (create an exportable wrapper function within the header) to no avail...functions still don't appear to be exported.

    This question was inspired by this answer to another question, indicating that you can remove every occurrence of an element from a list using a function defined as: removeall = filter . (/=) Working it out with pencil and paper from the types of filter, (/=) and (.), the function has a type of removeall :: (Eq a) => a -> [a] -> [a] which is exactly what you'd expect based on its contract. However, with GHCi 6.6, I get gchi> :t removeall removeall :: Integer -> [Integer] -> [Integer] unless I specify the type explicitly (in which case it works fine). Why is Haskell inferring such a specific type for the function?

Functions as pointers What I typed in, as per the recipe, was: NSString *boolString (BOOL yesNo) { if (yesNo) { return (@"YES"); } else { return (@"NO"); } } // boolString The pointer asterisk in the first line doesn't seem necessary, yet deleting it results in an error message. But what does it do? In NSString * boolString (yesNo); what seems to be going on is a function is defined as a pointer to an NSString. The function without the asterisk NSLog (@"are %d and %d different? %@", 5, 5, boolString(areTheyDifferent)); returns an NSString of YES or NO. But how can it return an NSString when it's a pointer? It might return the ADDRESS of an NSString; or if dereferenced it could return the CONTENTS of that address (an NSString such as YES or NO). Yet I see no place where it is dereferenced.

    While compiling on GCC I get the error: pure-specifier on function-definition, but not when I compile the same code using VS2005. class Dummy { //error: pure-specifier on function-definition, VS2005 compiles virtual void Process() = 0 {}; }; But when the definition of this pure virtual function is not inline, it works: class Dummy { virtual void Process() = 0; }; void Dummy::Process() {} //compiles on both GCC and VS2005 What does the error means? Why cannot I do it inline? Is it legal to evade the compile issue as shown in the second code sample?
