  Similar to this post, I'd like to change my proxy settings using a script. However, it fails. When I am behind the proxy, IE does not connect to the internet.   I'm running a program on a linux server that will take days to complete. I'm launching it from my workstation from an SSH terminal, as this program is command-line only. I want to be able to do all of these : launch that program, redirect standard outputs to files, exit my SSH session without making this terminate the process. I thought about $ ./MyProg.csh -params -foo -bar </dev/null 1>~/out.log 2>~/err.log & However, the process is terminated the moment I close my SSH session. My workstation is running Windows XP, and I cannot guarantee its uptime over several days, which is required for the processing of my data on the Linux server. As you may have noted, my program requires to be launched from CSH. Is it possible to do this ? Thanks.

• Sever 2008 R2 Powershell Script runs manually, but not as a scheduled task

  I have a Powershell script that runs manually using the Powershell ISE; However, when run as a scheduled task using an administrator's credentials the task does not run with the expected results. The script: $request=new-object System.Net.WebClient $request.DownloadFile("...url...", "C:\path\to\file.csv") The administrator user has Full Control of both the script and the folder it is writing to. The url exists and responds in a reasonable time (<1s). If I run the task manually the status is 0x41301 ("Currently Running") until I eventually end it. I have set the task up using both of these methods: Start a Program: C:\path\to\PS.PS1 Start a Program: C:\windows\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe with additional options -noninteractive -command "C:\path\to\PS.PS1" Using option 1, the task history shows it has opened an instance of notepad.exe but never terminates it. Using option 2 it completes the task but doesn't download / create the file. I have used Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted as this is not a signed script. Any ideas?

• Plesk command working in manual script, not in cronjob

  Hi, In order to install a hosting plan, I use Plesk's commands in SSH as specified in their official guide. When typed directly in SSH (Putty), it works perfectly. The line is as follows with obviously values hard coded when in CLI: /usr/local/psa/bin/domain --create '.$url.' -owner mynamehere -ip '.IP_SERVER_PLESK.' -status enabled -hosting true -hst_type phys -login '.$ftp_user.' -passwd '.$ftp_pw.' -www false -php true -php_safe_mode false -hard_quota 100M I then put that request in a php script that does other things after hosting is installed. Now for the weird part: when calling that script from CLI it also works fine, I do a ./myscript.php and it installs the hosting, then sends emails etc. However after I create a cronjob to have that same script called regularly, then the Plesk command fails. The cronjob is started in Plesk as */15 * * * * /usr/bin/php /home/scripts/myscript.php and it works fine for everything BUT the Plesk hosting install, that returns "Unable to read Control Panel configuration file" and therefore does not install the domain hosting. Still this is the same script that I call manually ! On that server are the PHP used to call a cronjob and the one used in CLI different ? What do I miss, help greatly appreciated ! Regards.

  Hi, I am using tcsh and define an environmental variable as follows: setenv mycomp [email protected] so that when I need to copy files from the remote my.computer.com, I type the following: scp $mycomp:sourcepath destpath But when I do this, I get the following error: "Bad : modifier in $ (m)." where (m) is the first character after the colon. What is this error telling me, and how can I fix it?

• Script apparently changing file permissions on Mac OS to 000

  I wrote a little shellscript that helps installing a web application. The script itself just downloads a zip archive, extracts it and changes the permissions of the extracted files to the one needed to run the webapp. The problem now is that some users reported that after running my script, all the permissions of every file in their home directory or even on their whole computer changed to 000 (except the actual unzipped files which do have the correct permissions). The only lines in my script actually doing IO are these: URL="http://foo.com/" FILENAME="some.zip" curl --silent "$URL$FILENAME" -o $FILENAME > /dev/null echo "Unzipping...\c" if unzip -oqq $FILENAME > /dev/null then chmod -R 777 app/tmp app/webroot app/Config/database* app/configuration* chown -R www:www * rm $FILENAME echo "\t\t\tOK" exit 0 else echo "\t\t\tERROR" exit 1 fi I seriously can't explain this to myself. How can this even be possible? It is entirely possible that the users accidentally ran the script in their home directory, but that still wouldn't explain why the permissions where set to 000, not www/777.

  I have a test suite which runs in a browser (using QUnit, though that's unimportant). The test suite requires a local server running on a particular port. Running the tests currently involves a few steps: node test/server switch to browser of choice open localhost:3000 I'd like to have a single command which starts the server then runs open localhost:3000. Ideally, the node process would remain in the foreground so it could be killed with ^C. I don't have a good understanding of subshells, so I'm not sure whether this is possible.

  I can't seem to get the ASP.NET engine to handle ALL wildcard mapping. When I try to make a request that is supposed to be handled by the asp.net engine, i get a 404 error from the StaticFile handler Here is the content of my web.config file. • Conflict between two Javascripts (MailChimp validation etc. scripts & jQuery hSlides.js)

  I have two scripts running on the same page, one is the jQuery.hSlides.js script http://www.jesuscarrera.info/demos/hslides/ and the other is a custom script that is used for MailChimp list signup integration. The hSlides panel can be seen in effect here: http://theatricalbellydance.com. I've turned off the MailChimp script because it was conflicting with the hSlides script, causing it not to to fail completely (as seen here http://theatricalbellydance.com/home2/). Can someone tell me what could be done to the hSlides script to stop the conflict with the MailChimp script? • echo POST array.. or other ideas?

The problem is that when I send the Moneris gateway to return a POST array to my new file (cart.php) it gets a 500 Internal Server Error. This is the same error I received when it send to the script, which should have worked. Is there any reason that it would always send a 500 Internal Server Error? Here is my dilemma: I have a script (ImageFolio Commerce) that hasn't been updated on our server since.. probably 2003. The script had a Payment Gateway (Moneris) manually added to it by the company who offers the script. This costs $1000 to get them to add a gateway. I now have a new client who purchased this business from the previous owner. While switching the account to the new owner's Moneris account, we found out that things have been updated. Long story short.. The Moneris gateway can send 3 types of responses: POST with XML Data POST GET I imagine it is easiest to just use the POST array. I have the file that it sends the response to. As of now the file responds with a Internal Server error, but it does process the order. What I want to do is determine what the POST array is that is being sent, so that I can take it and echo it in a logical manner. Is there a way to capture and echo the entire POST?   I have a script that is supposed to trap SIGTERM and SIGTSTP. This is what I have in the main block: trap 'killHandling' TERM And in the function: killHandling () { echo received kill signal, ignoring return } ... and similar for SIGINT. The problem is one of user interface. The script prompts the user for some input, and if the SIGTERM or SIGINT occurs when the script is waiting for input, it's confusing. Here is the output in that case: Enter something: # SIGTERM received received kill signal, ignoring # shell waits at blank line for user input, user gets confused # user hits "return", which then gets read as blank input from the user # bad things happen because of the blank input I have definitely seen scripts which handle this more elegantly, like so: Enter something: # SIGTERM received received kill signal, ignoring Enter something: # re-prompts user for user input, user is not confused What is the mechanism used to accomplish the latter? Unfortunately I can't simply change my trap code to do the re-prompt as the script prompts the user for several things and what the prompt says is context-dependent. And there has to be a better way than writing context-dependent trap functions. I'd be very grateful for any pointers. Thanks!

• Server Bash Line Wrapping Over Text & In Wrong Place

  This is quite a hard problem to explain, when connecting to one of my servers using the bash shell, under any user the line wrapping is broken and has all sorts of problems. Once of which I detail in screenshots below: Other problems I experience include nano getting very confused about which line and or letter I am on, as shown by typing the same message into nano: These problems only occur when connecting as I previously mentioned to one of my servers which runs CentOs. Do you know why this is occurring and what I can do to fix it? On other servers the message works fine! • Conky starts above windows in Ubuntu Maverick

  Hey guys, I did not run into this problem until I upgraded my Ubuntu box to Maverick Meerkat (10.10). Basically, whenever I start my computer, conky runs as expected, except it gets drawn over any windows that I load (see screenshot). To fix this for a single session, I simply restart conky by running killall conky; conky in a terminal. Conky gets re-drawn below active windows (namely, only appearing on my desktop), and does not have the border/drop-shadow, but I have to do this every time I start a new session. Is there a simple way to fix this? • Command line solution for removing parts from a binary file?

  I have a binary file and I would like to remove parts from. By removing I mean deleting those parts and thus making the file's size smaller. The parts would be between two ASCII strings. So, for example the file would look like this ........ start ABCD end ..... start EFGH end ..... start IJKL end ........... So in this file, I would like to search for strings "start" and "end" and remove the parts between them. The way I think I can do it is to lookup all the locations for "start" and "end" calculate ranges from that delete those parts Now I am using some GUI based Hex editor and I use the "Search All", "Select Range" and "Delete" commands, but I am sure it would be possible to solve it using some powerful command line hex/text editors. Do you know any solution for this problem which doesn't require using a GUI for looking up, copy & paste on clipboard, select range and delete commands but is just a few lines of command line? I am interested ini both Linux shell scripts or using some command line hex editors under Windows, or even Python scrips are welcome. Do you think it is possible to solve this problem just by a simple Regex replace? Are there any regex replace util which handles binary files well?

  I have an alias that passes in some parameters to a tool that I use often. Sometimes I run as myself, sometimes under sudo. Unfortunately, of course, sudo doesn't recognise the alias. Does anyone have a hint on how to pass the alias through? In this case, I have a bunch of options for perl when I'm debugging: alias pd='perl -Ilib -I/home/myuser/lib -d' Sometimes, I have to debug my tools as root, so, instead of running: pd ./mytool --some params I need to run it under sudo. My last resort is to put it into a shell script and put that somewhere that sudo will be able to find. But aliases are soooo handy sometimes, so it is a last resort.

The majority of user scripts can be found at two different sites, the first being appropriately named userscripts.org, and you can either browse by tag or search for a script. As you can see here your search for a particular type of script can be quickly narrowed down based on category. There is definitely a lot to choose from. For our example we focused on the “textarea” tag. There were 62 scripts available but we quickly found what we were looking for on the first page. Installing, Managing, & Using Your Scripts When you find a script that you want to install visit the script’s homepage and click on the “Install” button. Note: Link for this script provided below. Once you have clicked on the Install button, Greasemonkey will open up the following installation window. You will be able to view: A summary of what the script does A list of websites that the script is supposed to function on (our example is set for all) View the script source if desired Make a final decision on whether to install the script or cancel the process Right-clicking on our status bar icon shows our new script listed and active. Reopening the Manage User Scripts window shows: Our new script listed in the column on the left The websites/pages included An option to disable the script (can also be done in the context menu) The ability to edit the script The ability to uninstall the script If you choose to edit the script you will be asked to browse for and select a default text editor of your choice (first time only). Once you have selected a text editor you can make any changes desired to the script. We decided to test our new user script on the site. Going to the comment box at the bottom we could easily resize the window as desired. The Comment box definitely got a lot bigger. Conclusion If you prefer to keep the number of extensions to a minimum in your Firefox installation then Greasemonkey and the Userscripts website can easily provide that extra functionality without the bloat. • How to fix? Gnome-shell shows up and instantly stop working

  I am using ubuntu 12.04, but I love gnome shell, but not the Gnome Classic which comes installed. When I reinstalled, I instantly installed Gnome-shell by terminal using Unity, it worked for a while and then I started installing some extensions. I rebooted and it just stopped working, it shows up for a second, then I can only see my desktop with icons but without panels and I can't even use the terminal (CTRL + ALT + T) since the window doesn't really select when I click it. How could I fix this? I tried reinstalling Gnome-shell and all the stuff I installed for it, but now it doesn't work even without any extension.
