• How to Deploy my Open Source Projects using Maven's Central Repository?

  Is there anything I could do to get my own open source stuff into Maven's Central repository? I've wondered many times how I could get my own projects into Maven's Central repository. I was asking this myself, especially as I've seen some well known projects hosting their own repository, requiring users to add dependency and repository. At the same time, it's getting difficult for other projects to depend on those projects. As I neither want others to add an additional repository nor to host one myself, I'm looking for other ways. And why aren't some projects using the option to deploy to Maven Central in favor of their self-hosted repository? Any good reasons that aren't obvious?

• How should open source libraries be used on Windows?

  There are many open-source libraries that can be compiled with Visual Studio. I'm porting a program from Linux to Windows, but it depends on a number of libraries. I don't know what the best practices regarding libraries are on Windows. On Linux, these libraries are typically part of the distribution. To use sqlite on Debian, for example, you need only to install libsqlite3-dev and the include files and libraries (both static and dynamic) are automatically installed and available to your program. If you need a different version than your distribution supplies, you can compile it in your home directory, install it to ~/include and ~/lib, and set the appropriate environment variables so that your compiler includes those directories in its search path. What is the best way to use libraries that are distributed as source on Windows? If I link dynamically rather than statically, is there an easy way to copy required DLLs into the output directory to ease redistribution (assuming license requirements are met)?

  I have a site that allows users to create a saying and then users "like" those sayings on Facebook. http://www.likeylikey.net/ I got a friend to throw up this simple code in less than 2 hours so it's basic. He knows little to nothing regarding the Open Graph API. Basically, I want to know how I can programmatically store how many times a page has been liked so I can list a "Top 10, most liked pages" list. Right now the index shows a list of all created pages and now I just wish to show the 10 most liked but I need a way of pulling that information from Facebook. Is this possible?

• Is there a generic open-source reporting system out there?

  I recently started a position at a new company, and one of the first projects they want is an internal reporting system that points at database A, B, C and reports various metrics/statistics/predictions. Basically, the same thing I've done or worked on and every company I've ever been hired by. Since this gets a bit boring after a while, I was wondering if there already exists some sort of open-source package that accomplishes this goal. Ideally, it would work with multiple databases out-of-box (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle minimally), determine relationships between tables (either automatically from their schemas, or allow you to manually set them up after pooling all the tables), allow you to create reports based on a subset of tables, customizing what data you wanted to be displayed/calculated (I suppose this would be challenging since you've no idea what every audience wants, and would need to make this flexible) I'm debating making something like this in my spare time if one does not already exist. Just curious.

I do not want to use Lame because it is too big while no programmer can answer a simple question on it (share simple but easily downloadable and readable project containing only needed 2 simple functions... So I'm tired of searching for help with it.. I need something fresh powerful but more readable than this lib I found (mp3stego) ) "I don't want LAME because I am a fighter with its monopoly" Haha..

  Hi I am trying to embed a Microsoft Access database file into my Class assembly DLL. I want my code to reference the resource file and use it with a ADODB.Connection object.   I'm trying to access and browse internet through a ssh server so in my laptop (ubuntu 12.04) I do this: ssh -D 9999 root@server-ip then in the network proxy in my laptop I set: HTTP proxy 127.0.0.1 port 9999 but when I try to open a page in my browser it doesn't connect and in my terminal I get errors like these : channel 4: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused channel 3: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused channel 5: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused channel 4: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused channel 6: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused I'm new to this and found this method on the internet so I'm don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'd really appreciate it if anyone can help me make this work.

• 8 Mac System Features You Can Access in Recovery Mode

  A Mac’s Recovery Mode is for more than just reinstalling Mac OS X. You’ll find many other useful troubleshooting utilities here — you can use these even if your Mac can’t boot normally. To access Recovery Mode, restart your Mac and press and hold the Command + R keys during the boot-up process. This is one of several hidden startup options on a Mac. Reinstall Mac OS X Most people know Recovery Mode as the place you go to reinstall OS X on your Mac. Recovery Mode will download the OS X installer files from teh Intenret if you don’t have them locally, so they don’t take up space on your disk and you’ll never have to hunt for an opearign system disc. Better yet, it will download up-to-date installation files so you don’t have to spend hours installing operating system updates later. Microsoft could learn a lot from Apple here. Restore From a Time Machine Backup Instead of reinstalling OS X, you can choose to restore your Mac from a time machine backup. This is like restoring a system image on another operating system. You’ll need an external disk containing a backup image created on the current computer to do this. Browse the Web The Get Help Online link opens the Safari web browser to Apple’s documentation site. It’s not limited to Apple’s website, though — you can navigate to any website you like. This feature allows you to access and use a browser on your Mac even if it isn’t booting properly. It’s ideal for looking up troubleshooting information. Manage Your Disks The Disk Utility option opens the same Disk Utility you can access from within Mac OS X. It allows you to partition disks, format them, scan disks for problems, wipe drives, and set up drives in a RAID configuration. If you need to edit partitions from outside your operating system, you can just boot into the recovery environment — you don’t have to download a special partitioning tool and boot into it. Choose the Default Startup Disk Click the Apple menu on the bar at the top of your screen and select Startup Disk to access the Choose Startup Disk tool. Use this tool to choose your computer’s default startup disk and reboot into another operating system. For example, it’s useful if you have Windows installed alongside Mac OS X with Boot Camp. Add or Remove an EFI Firmware Password You can also add a firmware password to your Mac. This works like a BIOS password or UEFI password on a Windows or Linux PC. Click the Utilities menu on the bar at the top of your screen and select Firmware Password Utility to open this tool. Use the tool to turn on a firmware password, which will prevent your computer from starting up from a different hard disk, CD, DVD, or USB drive without the password you provide. This prevents people form booting up your Mac with an unauthorized operating system. If you’ve already enabled a firmware password, you can remove it from here. Use Network Tools to Troubleshoot Your Connection Select Utilities > Network Utility to open a network diagnostic tool. This utility provides a graphical way to view your network connection information. You can also use the netstat, ping, lookup, traceroute, whois, finger, and port scan utilities from here. These can be helpful to troubleshoot Internet connection problems. For example, the ping command can demonstrate whether you can communicate with a remote host and show you if you’re experiencing packet loss, while the traceroute command can show you where a connection is failing if you can’t connect to a remote server. Open a Terminal If you’d like to get your hands dirty, you can select Utilities > Terminal to open a terminal from here. This terminal allows you to do more advanced troubleshooting. Mac OS X uses the bash shell, just as typical Linux distributions do. Most people will just need to use the Reinstall Mac OS X option here, but there are many other tools you can benefit from. If the Recovery Mode files on your Mac are damaged or unavailable, your Mac will automatically download them from Apple so you can use the full recovery environment.

  To open the LOV popup of an af:inputListOfValues component in ADF Faces, you either click the magnifier icon to the right of the input field or tab onto the icon and press the Enter key. If you want to open the same dialog in response to a user double click into the LOV input field, JavaScript is a friend. For this solution, I assume you created an editable table or input form that is based on a View Object that contains at least one attribute that has a model driven list of values defined. The Default List Type is should be set to Input Text with List of Values so that when the form or table gets created, the attribute is rendered by the af:inputListOfValues component. To implement the use case, drag a Client Listener component from the Operations accordion in the Component Palette and drop it onto the af:inputListOfValues component in the page. In the opened Insert Client Listener dialog, define the Method as handleLovOnDblclickand choose dblClick in the select list for the Type attribute. I am looking for an open source game engine which is simple to use and allows me to concentrate on the game design and architecture. I have some basic C,C++,C# knowledge. After lots of searching in google I was going to start out with Ogre3D but soon realized that it is a rendering engine and does not include physics engine. I have not tried it yet since in many forums it says they don't have a good documentation. So is there any good open source game engine good for fast game developing ?   Over the last 6 months we have been building various multi-lingual sites for different clients and for some of the clients they have 1 to 1 relationships between some or all of their pages.Within Umbraco, you can copy a page ( or whole tree of pages ) and keep a relationship between each of the pages and their new copy, this allows content editors to subscribe to change notifications that Umbraco can create if one of the linked pages is changed.Unfortunately one thing that is missing in Umbraco is any way to see which pages are related to each other and to have a quick and easy way to jump between the related pages.We created a datatype that solves these problems and thought we would release it as an open source project ( which we are still maintaining )Currently you can:1) See current relationships2) Add relationships3) Limit the number of relationships that can be added ( by the data type )4) See the Country flag ( assuming a culture has been set on each of your top level site nodes for each country site )5) Link between the documents6) Change or delete the linksAn example where multiple languages are allowed:An example where only 2 languages exist (1 relationship):You can download the datatype from the Umbraco project page:Vizioz Relationships for UmbracoPlease do let us know what you think :)

• Generate HTML pages from some template

  I have an open-source project for which I have to generate HTML pages to put on the web. I wanted to keep everything as simple HTML pages. The problem with this approach is if I need to change the design, I have to goto all the pages and change it. This will be tough as I have lot of pages. Is there some kind of HTML generators which can process simple annotated text files? This way, I can maintain the documentation and website contents as plain text files and run it through this program to generate static HTML pages. This also helps in keeping the design consistent. Any help would be great!

  I would like to use Empathy as a Google Talk client. When I choose to go online, I'm asked to give [email protected] (Ubuntu) access to manage my online Photo's, Google Drive, Emails and Videos. I don't understand why Ubuntu has to have all these permissions on my Google account, does this mean Ubuntu will start syncing my Google account to Ubuntu One? Can I connect to Google Talk without granting access to my Videos, Emails and Photos to Ubuntu? What do you guys want with all my online things?

• Trying to find video of a talk on the impact of memory access latency

  Some months ago I stumbled across a video on the internet of somebody giving a very good talk on the impact of memory access latency on the execution of programs. I'm trying to find the video again; maybe you know what video I mean and were I can find it. This is what I remember about the talk/video: I don't remember the title and it may have been broader, but the talk was a lot about impact of memory access latency in modern processors on program execution. The talk was in English and most likely the location was in America. The speaker was very knowledgeable about the topic, but the talk was in an informal setting (not a conference presentation or university lecture). I think the speaker was known to the audience and may even have been famous (I don't remember) The audience may have been a computer club / group of a local community or company (but I don't remember for sure)
