• MVC Entity Framework: Cannot open user default database. Login failed.

  This type of stuff drives me nuts. I'm having trouble finding the exact issue that I'm having, maybe I just don't know the terminology. Anyway, I had a working website using MVC and Entity Framework, but then I coded an error in a partial view page (ascx). Then all of a sudden I started to get this message. Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM' I've found plenty of suggestions about opening SQL Server Management Studio, Double Click on Security, Double Click on Logins, Double click on NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM and then double click on User Mapping. In this view I'm suppose to check the box for my database so that this user is mapped to this login. However, since I created my database in Visio Studio 2008 as part of my solution, it doesn't show up to allow me to click on it. So what do I do now? What drives me nuts is that everything was working fine. I was using my computer name to access the website and everything was working fine until the coding error. I've fix the error but still getting the error. I should also mention that this error started yesterday too around the same time but later cleared itself up. If I use localhost to access the site, it works just fine. IIS7 configuration for my website: Application Pool = DefaultAppPool Physical Path Credentials Logon = ClearText With in connection strings. I do see the one for my database in this solution. Entry Type is local metadata=res://*/Models.DataModel.csdl|res://*/Models.DataModel.ssdl|res://*/Models.DataModel.msl; provider=System.Data.SqlClient; provider connection string="Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\FFBall.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;MultipleActiveResultSets=True" And somewhere I remember changing the identity from Network Service to LocalSystem. Because when I first stared I was getting this same message, but I changed this value and it started working. I saw that suggested somewhere too but I do not recall. Wait I remember now, I believe in IIS7, under Application Pools, DefaultAppPool identity is set to LocalSystem. Additional things I've tried. Restart the computer Recycle the application pool. Antivirus isn't running. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

• Why do I get "could not load type" error with my custom SessionStateProvider

  My associate has created a custom SessionStateProvider for me to use with my ASP.net application. I add the file CustomSessionStateProvider to my VS2008 Web Application Project and put the appropriate reference in the web.config and it works fine. However, my supervisor wants me to set this up as a GAC reference. At my office, we have many DLLs we've created that we use as GAC references across different projects. If I add my CustomSessionStateProvider to the Global Assembly Cache, my pages throw a could not load type CustomASP.CustomSessionStateProvider error. Simple removing the DLL from the GAC makes it work again, but I want to set this up as a GAC reference. What could be causing this problem?

• C# Image.Clone to byte[] causes EDIT.COM to open on Windows XP

  It appears that cloning a Image and converting it to a byte array is causing EDIT.COM to open up on Windows XP machines. This does not happen on a Windows 7 machine. The application is a C# .NET 2.0 application. Does anyone have any idea why this may be happening? • API to lookup product information by UPC?

  Is there an API that allows lookup of product information by UPC? I know that Amazon has the Product Advertising API but don't think it can be used for any purpose other than sending traffic to amazon.com as per their license agreement here. Specifically, my application would not have the principal purpose of advertising and marketing the Amazon Site and driving sales of products and services on the Amazon Site Does such an API exist that I can do anything I want with the data? UPDATE I would want to use the API for my application, not create create such an API.

• Achieving AES-256 Channel Encryption with the .NET Compact Framework

  Hi There, I am working on a business application where the clients are Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional devices. The server is a Java enterprise application. The industry working group recommends AES-256 encryption for client/server communications. This is necessary to gain certification. The encryption doesn't necessarily need to be channel encryption, it could be payload encryption. Channel encryption is preferable. The client and server communicate using SOAP/HTTP, which we are yet to implement. We plan to use WCF on the compact framework. In order to alleviate some of the work required to implement manual encryption/decryption, it would be nice if we could achieve the required encryption either at the TLS level, or somehow using the WS-* standards (I'm not particularly familiar with that group of technologies but I am learning right now). The server supports https with 256-bit AES. Does anybody have an idea on the best way to implement this? Thanks in advance.

  Hi all I'm writing a java application that runs in Tomcat, on a multi-core hardware. The application executes an algorithm and returns the answer to the user. The problem is that even when I run two requests simultaneously, the tomcat process uses at most one CPU core. As far as I understand each request in Tomcat is executed in separate thread, and JVM should run each thread on separate CPU core. What could be the problem that bounds the JVM or Tomcat to use no more than one core? Thanks in advance.

• Memory issues - Living vs. overall -> app is killed

  I'm trying to check my applications memory issues in Instruments. When I load the application I play some sounds and show some animations in UIImageViews. To save some memory I load the sounds only when I need it and when I stop playing it I free it from the memory. problem 1: My application is using about 5.5MB of Living memory. BUT The Overall section is growing after start to 20MB and then it's slowly growing (about 100kB/sec). But responsible Library is OpenAL (OAL::Buffer), dyld (_dyld_start)-I am not sure what this really is, and some other stuff like ft_mem_qrealloc, CGFontStrikeSetValue, … problem 2: When the overall section breaks about 30MB, application crashes (is killed). According to the facts I already read about overall memory, it means then my all allocations and deallocation is about 30MB. But I don't really see the problem. When I need some sound for example I load it to the memory and when I don't need it anymore I release it. But that means when I load 1MB sound, this operation increase overall memory usage with 2MB. Am I right? And when I load 10 sounds my app crashes just because the fact my overall is too high even living is still low??? I am very confused about it. Could someone please help me clear it up?   Hello, I'm having a problem with a cocoa application that takes the value of a text field, and writes it to a file. The file path is made using stringWithFormat: to combine 2 strings. For some reason it will not create the file and the console says nothing. I have checked out the code in MSDN and found an example in which the System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase class is sub-classed. I did the following. created a new C# console application copied the code from the MSDN example Run I get the following error The type or namespace name 'ServiceProcess' does not exist in the namespace 'System'(are you missing an assembly reference?) As i had copied the example from MSDN, i have no idea why the code still does not work. This is my first experience writing services and i`d love some guidance. thnkx!

• CURL alternative - Design ideas

  All, I am looking for some web application design ideas here. I have a server X that hosts an SDK, which has the capacity to talk a piece of hardware. When I make an HTTPS request from an external PHP web application (hosted on Server Y) to Server X through curl, Server X gives JSON data as a response. I use this data to render my UI for the web app on Server Y. The above method seems to be slow and has a tendency to fail in production if there are too many concurrent requests. Can anybody let me know if there is an alternative to CURL or any other design people are using to pull data like this from servers? Thanks

• Windows 7 UAC elevation

  I have a single thread that I'd like to run as an administrator in my application. The rest of the application I can happily run as the default user level (asInvoker). Is this possible? I notice there is an "ImpersonateLoggedOnUser" function. Can I somehow use this to log the administrator on and then get the thread to impersonate that person? It seems as though this ought to be something pretty trivial to do ... but there doesn't appear to be any obvious way to do it. Can anyone help me out?

  Hello, I've looked at Net::Google, and 90% of the modules use AuthSub with a mandatory login/password. The right way for a web application to interact with Google applications on behalf of a customer is to use OAuth. That way, the authentication is done by Google, and the application does not know the user's password. This is supported by Net::Google::DocumentsList for example. Are you aware of modules that can work well with Picasa and Blogger, for example, using OAuth. The current Net::Google::PicasaWeb handles read-only queries, no add/remove/update actions.

• Create Access databases programatically through vb.net

  Let me preface this by saying that I know this is a stupid way to go about this, but it needs to be handled in this way. I need to make an application that from a master database creates a number of access database files (tables of a larger db), then these are manually given to users who fill in data, the database files are emailed back to a user who, through the application, combines them again. The only part of this that I am unsure about is problematically creating the access db's. I have read that through Microsoft Jet OLE DB Provider and Microsoft ADO Ext I can create them (the tables and data), but I also need forms. I have yet to start writing anything and this is away from my area of work, so any insight/links would be much appreciated. Also, I would hope to be able to write this in the free express version of visual studio. Are there components needed that would prevent me from this? Thanks.

I am getting NullReferenceException = Object reference not set to an instance of an object. I based my choice on the one that offered "free" shipping via UPS (3-5 day) delivery. after the purchase I noticed that the one I bought has Windows CE, not android (!#$^%!!!). Now i have met a problem. <form name="myform" action="?page=matching" method="GET"> <input id="match_button" type="submit" name="button" value="button" onClick="func_load3()" /> </form> action="?page=matching" means the current page, because i use the single entry in my php application. With the code upon, When i click the button, it redirects to the homepage. And I tried to use: <form name="myform" action="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?>" method="GET"> but it still doesn't work. So i have to ask for help from you. Do you have any ideas about that? Of course, I'm using a basic MVC design and my question concerns the Model layer. For my application, the Model represents data fetched on the Internet with a XML-RPC API. I'm planning to use Core Data to represent a locally fetched version. How should the data be loaded initially? • Exception if there is IBOutlet in view controller created by initWithNibName

  When I create a Navigation-based application, the second view controller is created with initWithNibName, if I add a label onto the second view and connect it with IBOutlet in the second view controller. After I navigate to the second view by clicking table cell, and then back to the root view, the application aborts - send message retainCount to a freed object. I know this is caused by the IBOutlet label, which is retained, set nil in viewDidUnload and dealloc in dealloc. But I don't know why, and if I wanna still use IBOutlet, what can I do? Not dealloc it in viewcontroller's dealloc? Anybody could help? Thank you.

• PresentModalViewController from within UISplitViewController: weird behavior in landscape mode

  Hi, I've been using PresentModalViewController a lot and never had any issues. But when showing a modal controller from within any controller hosted by a UISplitViewController I get strange orientation bugs. In my table view (which is root controller of the UISplitView), when a cell is touched, I call: MyController oModal = new MyController(); oModal.ModalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationStyle.FormSheet; oModal.ModalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyle.CrossDissolve; this.PresentModalViewControll(oModal, true); If the iPad is in Portrait, all is okay. If it is in landscape however, the modal controller fades in but its orientation is incorrect. Then, after fading in has finished, it suddenly flips 90 degrees and adjusts to correct orientation. I have overriden ShouldAutoRotateToInterfaceOrientation(), so that cannot be it. Ideas? René
