  • How do I use JDK 7 on Mac OSX?

    OK. This is a newbie question but I can't figure it out... I would like to use the WatchService API as mentioned in this link: http://download.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/essential/io/notification.html After reading around, I found out that WatchService is part of the NIO class which is scheduled for JDK 7. So, it is in beta form. It's fine. http://jdk7.java.net/download.html has the JDK which I downloaded and extracted. I got a bunch of folders. I don't know what to do with them. Then, I read around some more and found that some nice group of people created JDK 7 as a binary so someone like me can install it easily. It is called Open JDK: http://code.google.com/p/openjdk-osx-build/ So, I downloaded the .dmg file and instal it. Then I open "Java Preference" and see that OpenJDK7 is available. So, now I feel that I can start trying out WatchService API. From the tutorial in the first link, the author gave a .java file to test it out first and make sure that it is running. Here is the link to the file: http://download.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/essential/io/examples/WatchDir.java So, I boot up Eclipse (actually I use STS) and create a new Java project and choose JaveSE-1.7 in the "use an execution environment JRE:". Under the src folder, I copy pasted the WatchDir.java file. And I still see tons of squiggly red lines. All the "import.java.nio.*" are all red and I cannot run it as a Java app. If you read this far, thanks a lot. So, now... What do I need to do? Thanks. EDIT: I actually did not pursue using Java 7 but there are a lot of interest in it and it seems like people keep answering this question. What should I do to make it more relevant to people who search for it? Let me know by PMing me. Thanks.

  • Why don't my groovy enums work, or even compile?

    I'm running Groovy Version: 1.7.0 JVM: 1.6.0_17 (Update -- I just upgraded to 1.7.1 and get the same errors!) I've tried to use enums, using the exact syntax from the groovy documentation, and each time I see the compile error: Groovy:The class java.lang.Enum refers to the class java.lang.Enum and uses 1 parameters, but the referred class takes no parameters Any ideas on what's going on?   • Using low level api for datastore in google app engine ? is it bad ?

    There is little documentation on how to use the low level api for datastore and quite a lot on JPA and JDO and how it translates to it. My question is: is there any advantage in coding against the JPA or JDO specs instead of accessing directly the low level api for datastore ? How do I determine which xml file any given page on the website is using? For example, if I were on the home page at http://mysite.com, which layout xml file am I using? What if I’m on http://mysite.com/hello-world, which xml file then?

Currently, this string example is being added to an HTML table row on the fly like this: tRow.append($('<td>').text($('[id$=txtEntry2]').val())); I figure "split" is the way to go but there is very little documentation that I can find yet.

  • RegCreateKeyEx - does it update the returned handle on failure?

    MSDN documentation seems silent on whether RegCreateKeyEx ever updates the value of the handle referred to by its second-last parameter when it fails. My tests have only shown it not to update this - i.e., I set h = 0 before the call, pass &h to a call to RegCreateKeyEx to open a non-existent key, and see h = 0 after the call. Does anyone know of any situation in which the handle would be changed?

    I would like to serialize a boost::array, containing something that is already serializable. If get this error: error C2039: 'serialize' : is not a member of 'boost::array<T,N>' I have tried to include the serialization/array.hpp header but it did not help.   • How can I change column length using HQL query?

    I tried session.createSQLQuery("ALTER TABLE People MODIFY address VARCHAR(1000);").executeUpdate(); but this throws org.hibernate.exception.SQLGrammarException: could not execute native bulk manipulation query After a lot of googling, the recommendation is to use HQL instead of SQL query to do bulk updates. Not sure how to use HQL to accomplish this. There seems to be no decent HQL documentation for updating column length in a table. Thanks so much for the help.

    I do not understand the documentation for gprof regarding how to compile your program for profiling with gprof. In g++, is it required to compile with the -g option (debugging information) in a addition to the -pg option or not. In each case I get different results, and I would like to see where the bottlenecks in my application are in release mode, not in debug mode, where many optimizations are left out by the compiler (e.g. inlining)

  • javax.crypto AES encryption - Do I only need to call doFinal?

    I want to do AES CBC encryption in Java. I'm using javax.crypto. After I have the Cipher initialized, do I only need to call doFinal on the clear bytes to properly encrypt it? Or do I need to do something with update? Documentation says update: Continues a multiple-part encryption or decryption operation and doFinal Encrypts or decrypts data in a single-part operation, or finishes a multiple-part operation what exactly do they mean by multiple-part encryption?

  • Does the iPhone 3G/3Gs camera put metadata in its images? (and how do you get it?)

    I've been trying to figure how whether the iPhone (either 3G or 3Gs) camera puts metadata into it's images. Anecdotally, it appears that it does (e.g., I've seen images posted on the web that included a bunch of metadata), but I can't find reference to it anywhere in the SDK documentation. So....does anyone have a definitive answer? Also, if there is metadata, how do I get at it?
