How can I pipe between two separate console application running in different console windows?
e.g. I would like to do something similar to:
ffmpeg -i 0.flv -vcodec mpeg4 -f asf -s cif - | vlc -
However, I would like to do this from two separate windows, which doesn't work, I guess this is because standard out is local to cmd windows.
cmd window 1:
ffmpeg -i 0.flv -vcodec mpeg4 -f asf -s cif -
cmd window 2:
vlc -
Is there any way to programmatically achieve this? What exactly does | do behind the scenes?
Hey, Guys
I've got several network adapter in my PC (from LAN, WLAN, VPN etc...) and what I want to accomplish is that some specific adresses use the VPN adapter, while all others use eiter LAN or WLAN.
(So for example http://win-server/ is using VPN, while www.google still uses LAN connection.)
I've want to solve this with the Windows settings and not the VPN settings to make sure I can do it with every VPN-Provider.
Thank You
Hi everyone, at the moment i have a dual monitor setup on my main PCIe gfx card.
I know that on windows it is almost impossible to have a second card (eg no thrills PCI card) running without having an SLI motherboard because of a driver issue. Well this was my conclusion after many weeks of research.
I was thinking...is it possible to use a VM in order to utilize the secondary card as the default video output to feed another monitor?
let me know if you want me to clarify
Thanks :)
This is the first computer I have ever bought and I couldn't bring it home without a mouse of its own. I'm trying to disable the touchpad but the only option I find is by uninstalling the drivers, which I think is a bit drastic, the buttons for activation and deactivation are disabled (I'm using windows 7 starter).
Do you have any idea of how to disable the touch pad when an external mouse is hooked up?

I just installed 4 1.5TB hard disks (WD) in two servers (2 in each). Upon reboot they are not showing up in the disk manager whatsoever.
I'm running Windows Server 2003 EE (32bit) with 8GB ram. They both currently have mirrored 300GB sata disks. Why aren't they being recognized? Is there a disk size limit for win2k3 r2?
I have an SSD only, Intel HD Graphics only, Ultrabook running on Windows 8 64-bit and after I turn it back on, after a long sleep of a few hours, the screen remains black even though the power is on (the fan and keyboard backlight are on). I have to force a shut down and switch it back on to use it normally again.
Hibernation and hybrid-sleep are turned off. It comes out of sleep of less than an hour just fine. Any advise?

How do I find out the location of any opened files or applications in Windows XP 32 bit?
For example, I have an application running as well as some Excel files open. How do I quickly find out their locations?
How can I make Vista home premium access OS X hard drive? and the other way around? I'd like to transfer files via direct ethernet.
Plugging in an ethernet cable makes both computers recognize a network, but not the other device. Each firewall is turned off, but no luck.
Edit: I don't see Windows Sharing in the Service Column.
My Sony Vaio laptop has a built-in program called "Sony Battery Care" which provides a functionality to hold battery at certain levels of charge while operating. For example, I've set it to 50% and the battery is always kept at that level while on AC power. This mode prevents battery degradation and is more effective as I usually use my laptop with AC power.
I'm looking for a similar program to use with other laptops with Windows OS; preferably a free one.
When a Windows 7 32-bit PC attached to a domain comes back from standby mode and has no user logged in, if I log in once, it jumps back to the login screen. If I log in for a second time, then it actually logs in.
This happens on multiple PCs, and is not a hardware issue. The PCs are also free of viruses/malware, and are otherwise problem-free.
Why does it do this, and is there a way to prevent this annoyance?
I have windows 7 and I was trying to print a webpage to the "Microsoft XPS document writer", but it keeps says "An error occurred try to print the document".
I've looked in the event viewer and don't see any errors.
What can I do to get it to print or figure out what is wrong?
My old mobo died, i bought a new one and swapped it. Plugged my old Harddrive and fired it up. I get a POST screen, the Windows logo ... and then the system restarts.
Any ideas?
I am unable to connect my Nokia 2690 to my PC via data cable using Nokia PC Suite under Windows XP SP3 Pro 32 bit.
Every time I connect my mobile using the data cable, the Nokia App shows a window where it says it's "Installing the required drivers. Please wait".
But even after several hours my phone never conects to my PC and the screen remains there idle. I checked in he task manager, Nokia PC Suite didn't go unresponsive.

Water was sprayed on my 19" monitor and damaged some parts of it. I need a software that will let me specify the screen area to be used by Windows, as if it was a smaller monitor. Its default menu doesn't have this option.
I have tried googling this and no one else seems to either have this problem, or find it to be a problem, but it is very annoying to me. Everytime I accidentally hit my ctrl key by itself on my keyboard (I am using windows 7) my volume automatically lowers to a very low volume and then I can't hear anything. It's very annoying whenever I am on a game and/or on skype and I accidentally hit ctrl and then I can't hear anything or anyone!! How can I turn this feature off?
I was able to share my laptop's internet with my smartphone by using this command "netsh wlan start hostednetwork".
But when I installed Avast in my Windows 8 OS, I am able to start the hostednetwork as before and my smartphone also finds the virtual AP but still I can't use internet on the smartphone.
It's like the internet sharing has been disabled by the Antivirus.
How do I tell Avast that its okay to use the hostednetwork?
I'll be leaving for uni soon and would like to know the different methods of connecting remotely to my home pc.
I know about VPN but are there any other ways? Also how secure is each of this method as I wouldn't want snoopers on my home-pc especially when I'm away.
Also can i set up a remote connection to start and shut down my computer
My operating system is windows, but if linux is more secure i would be willing to switch.
I want to keep a CSS file in my PC but want to link that file in website and whatever changes I will do in local file that changes should reflect in site.

I am trying to watch some videos stored on my desktop computer on the Xbox, but they are in a format that the Xbox cannot decode, so I have to stream them through Windows Media Center. However, as soon as I set up Media Center on the Xbox, anyone can go in and browse the directory structure on my desktop. I would like to "lock" the media library so that only I can add and delete folders from my desktop computer. Is it possible?
I want to know what the average CPU usage is of a particular executable on my PC over a day.
I could write a C# app to do this, but it must exist out there?...
I'm using Windows 7 64 bit, in case it matters!
