• Outlook style events calendar for project based on MVC framework

  I need large Calendar (not jQuery datepicker) with possibility to schedule events and show them on calendar. Calendar must support month/week/day views. It is very desirable for Calendar not to reload whole page when view changes (AJAX refresh). It must be easily customizable (CSS themes) and localizable. It should support drag & drop (for scheduled events). Such Calendar must be rendered on client side from JSON data snippet. I know there are too many requirements to find Calendar that matches them all but all they are important. I have found some free open source Calendar controls, but almost all are tightly tuned for ASP.NET but not MVC or have very "heavy" JavaScript codebase. Ideally i see it as jQuery extension but not server side ASP.NET control. The best ready-to-use solution I have found is FullCalendar by Adam Shaw (http://arshaw.com/fullcalendar/). It is jQuery plugin which source code I can change to fit my needs. If you can suggest some better existing solutions I'll be very appreciative.

  hi guys, i'm a newbie to ASP.net interop features, so what i have right here is some unmanaged dll that i need to call from my asp.net mvc app. the dll name is CTSerialNumChecksum.dll set CheckSumObj = Server.CreateObject("CTSerialNumChecksum.CRC32API") validSno = CheckSumObj.ValidateSerialNumber(no) i know it's unmanaged because when i try to add reference to the dll it doesn't work. i try to follow some tutorials on interop and marshalling but thus far i wasn't able to get the code to work. i'm trying to wrap the object into another static class and just let the rest of the app to call the code. using System; using System.Runtime.InteropServices; namespace OnlineRegisteration.Models { public static class SerialNumberChecksum { [DllImport("CTSerialNumChecksum")] public static extern int ValidateSerialNumber(string serialNo); } } Questions: How do i write the class? • html5 vs flash - full comparison chart anywhere?

  So since Steve Jobs said Flash sucks and implied that HTML5 can do everything Flash can without the need for a Plugin, I keep hearing those exact words from a lot of People. I would really like to have a Chart somewhere (similar to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_layout_engines_%28HTML5%29#Form_elements_and_attributes ) that I can just show to those people. Showing all the little things that Flash can do right now, that HTML5/Ajax/CSS is not yet even thinking about. But of course also the things that HTML5 does better. I would like to see details compared like audio playback, realtime audio processing, byte level access, bitmap data manipulation, webcam access, binary sockets, stuff in the works such as P2P technology (adobe stratus) and all the stuff I don't know about myself. Ideally with examples of what can be accomplished with, lets say Binary Sockets (such as a POP3 client) because otherwise it won't mean a lot to non-programmers since they will just say "well we can do without Binary Sockets". And ideally with some current benchmarks and some examples of websites that use this technology. I've searched the web and am surprised not to find anything. So is there such a comparison somewhere? Or does anybody want to create this and post it to Wikipedia? ;-)

• Rails: Create method available in all views and all models

  I'd like to define a method that is available in both my views and my models Say I have a view helper: def foo(s) "hello #{s}" end A view might use the helper like this: <div class="data"><%= foo(@user.name) %></div> However, this <div> will be updated with a repeating ajax call. I'm using a to_json call in a controller returns data like so: render :text => @item.to_json(:only => [...], :methods => [:foo]) This means, that I have to have foo defined in my Item model as well: class Item def foo "hello #{name}" end end It'd be nice if I could have a DRY method that could be shared in both my views and my models. Usage might look like this: Helper def say_hello(s) "hello #{s}" end User.rb model def foo say_hello(name) end Item.rb model def foo say_hello(label) end View <div class="data"><%= item.foo %></div> Controller def observe @items = item.find(...) render :text => @items.to_json(:only=>[...], :methods=>[:foo]) end IF I'M DUMB, please let me know. • PHP sessions causing Apache to hang indefinitely

  The problem is that every so often a page that writes to a Session will cause apache to hang forever for a particular session. Once this error occurs for one user any further modifications to any session of any user will cause the website to hang for this user. This problem has been my sole focus for days. I have a development VPS running Windows 2003 and default latest version of XAMPP using the standard PHP session handler. The code in question actually runs on two other machines perfectly normally so although my common sense says it’s a web server configuration issue but at this point I am willing to try anything. On further investigation there are no errors in the Apache, PHP or System event log. Resources are abundant and there is no “AJAX shit storm” or more than a couple writes to a session per page. I have also implemented session_write_close() wherever possible to try and help elevate the problem. I have checked the session’s directory which is set to “C:\windows\Temp” and found that once a user enters this hanging phase that the corresponding session file is exclusively locked and the only way to resolve this is to stop Apache and wait a few moments for the files to become unlocked and delete them. I am not wondering if deletion is required. The Sessions themselves only contain 4 bits of information. ShoppingCartID, UserID, UserLevel and Refering URL and are alphanumerical with an occasional slash. My PHP.INI’s session section is configured like this: session.save_handler = files session.save_path = "C:\WINDOWS\Temp" session.use_cookies = 1 session.name = PHPSESSID session.auto_start = 0 session.cookie_lifetime = 0 session.cookie_path = / session.cookie_domain = session.cookie_httponly = session.serialize_handler = php session.gc_probability = 1 session.gc_divisor = 100 session.gc_maxlifetime = 1440 session.bug_compat_42 = 1 session.bug_compat_warn = 1 session.referer_check = session.entropy_length = 0 session.entropy_file = session.cache_limiter = nocache session.cache_expire = 180 session.use_trans_sid = 0 session.hash_function = 0 session.hash_bits_per_character = 4 I have tried everything I can think of and the whole problem is now a blur to me. • purpose of 3rd party mvc ?

  ive seen many third party mvcs or frameworks such as codeignitor , cakephp, and so on. what i want to know is what are their purposes? ive created my own framework call it an mvc or framework (in my opinion their all the same). in my framework i have all the classes in one folder called classes and all functions in another. its all organized and when a new project comes in i am able to complete it fast. i have looked at the applications that i mentioned and it seems to have huge articles and tutorials to study. what is the purpose? why not study the main language such as php, javascript/ajax or jquery, and so on then build something that you know the ins and outs of so that any project comes your way you know what to do. ive known some people who use cakephp and for every project they get stuck and need to figure out what to do. another guy i knew worked with joomla and every basic company website that came his way he would reverse engineer joomla to make it work with the site. are people using these applications because they lack knowledge in the languages? or sometimes have no choice but to make a site while lacking language and put something together.

  Suppose I attach an onblur function to an html input box like this: <input id="myInput" onblur="function() { ... }"></input> Is there a way to get the ID of the element which caused the onblur event to fire (the element which was clicked) inside the function? How? For example, suppose I have a span like this: <span id="mySpan">Hello World</span> If I click the span right after the input element has focus, the input element will lose its focus. How does the function know that it was mySpan that was clicked? PS: If the onclick event of the span would occur before the onblur event of the input element my problem would be solved, because I could set some status value indicating a specific element had been clicked. PPS: The background of this problem is that I want to trigger an Ajax.AutoCompleter control externally (from a clickable element) to show its suggestions, without the suggestions disappearing immediately because of the onblur event on the input element. So I want to check in the OnBlur function if one specific element has been clicked, and if so, ignore the blur event.

I'm using jquery to get an already existing script declared inside the page, inside a createDocument() element, from an AJAX call.   Hi All, I want to achieve the following aspects in the software I am building: 1. Customizable entity model 2. Customizable UI 3. Customizable workflow I have thought about an approach to achieve this, I want you to review this and make suggestions: Entity objects should be plain objects and will hold just data Separate Entity model and DB Schema by using an framework (like NHibernate?). This will allow easy modification of entity objects. Business logic to fetch/modify entities has to be granular enough so that they can be invoked as part of the workflow. Business objects should not hold any state, and hence will contain only static methods The workflow will decide depending upon the "state" of an entity/entities which methods on business object/objects to invoke. The workflow should obtain the results of the processing and then pass on the business objects to the appropriate UI screen. The UI screen has to contain instructions about how to display a given entity/entites. Possibly the UI has to be generated dynamically based on a set of UI instructions. (like XUL) What do you think about this approach? Suggest which existing frameworks (like NHiberante, Window Workflow) fit into this model, so that I will not spend time on coding these frameworks Also suggest is there any asp.net framework that can generate dynamic asp.net ajax pages based on a set of UI instructions (like Mozilla XUL)? I have recently been exploring Apache Ofbiz and was impressed by its ability to customize most areas of the application: UI, workflow, entities. Is there any similar (not necessarily an ERP system) application developed in C#/.Net which offers a similar level of customization? • Which Java Framework is best suited for a web application with reusable content/behavior

  I come from a .NET background and need to do a web project in Java. I have read a bit on all the different Java web frameworks out there: JSF, Stripes, Wicket, Tapestry etc. But I would like to hear from people with real-life expertise with these frameworks. Of course I want a framework that is up to date, supports AJAX, is cool and so on, but one of my main criteria is the ability to somehow create reusable components / tags. The customer needs to be able to move tags/components around without too much problem in order to customize it for their specific needs. In ASP.NET Webforms I would use custom controls and user controls for this, and in ASP.NET MVC I would use user controls as well as home made custom controls. So what Java frameworks excel in this? My own superficial research seems to conclude that JSF supports some kind of custom controls (Bear in mind i am not only talking about layout reuse, but also behavior reuse, so if for example the customer / client wants a customer list on page x and not only on page Y, he would simply put in a <jr:CustomerList runat="server" .... /> (fictional example with ASP.NET Webforms syntax)).

I want something like 1 fades in, then 2 fades in, then 3 (something like a newsticker perhaps). Anyone has a suggestion?

• asp.net mvc - reusing pages/controllers in workflow

  I have 2 workflows: 1) the user signs up for the first time. They see 3 different screens, their basic user information, their credit card, and some additional profile information. They complete these 3 steps in a wizard like fashion, where each time they hit "submit" they leave the current screen and move on to the next. 2) the user already is signed up. He has links in the navigation to these 3 seperate pages. He can update them in any order. When he hits save, he doesn't leave the page he's on, it just shows something at the top that says "Credit Card Info saved..." or whatever. Possibly using ajax or maybe a full page refresh. I would like to reuse the code not only the view but also in the controller for these 3 screens between the two workflows, but without a ton of if...then logic to determine where to go next depending on whether its a first signup in the wizard or updating individual parts of a profile. Any ideas?

  One of my custom developed ASP.NET sites was hacked today: "Hacked By Swan (Please Stop Wars !.. )" It is using ASP.NET and SQL Server 2005 and IIS 6.0 and Windows 2003 server. I am not using Ajax and I think I am using stored procedures everywhere I am connecting to the database so I dont think it is SQL injection. I have now removed the write permission on the folders. How can I find out what they did to hack the site and what to do to prevent it from happening again? The server is up to date with all Windows updates. What they have done is uploading 6 files (index.asp, index.html, index.htm,...) to the main directory for the website. What log files should I upload? I have log files for IIS from this folder: c:\winnt\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1. I am willing to show it to some of you but don't think it is good to post on the Internet. Anyone willing to take a look at it? I have already searched on Google but the only thing I find there are other sites that have been hacked - I haven't been able to see any discussion about it. I know this is not strictly related to programming but this is still an important thing for programmers and a lot of programmers have been hacked like this.

• Make browser to go back by reloading page 1st and then scrolling it back again too

  EXPLAINING WHAT I'M TRYING TO SOLVE: I have a webpage (file_list.php) showing a list of files, and next to each file there is a button to delete it. When user press the DELETE button close to a certain file name, the browser goes to a script called delete_file.php that deletes the file and then it tells browser to go back to the file_list.php delete_file.php uses a simple header("Location: file_list.php”); to go back to file_list.php When browser goes back to file_list.php it reloads the page, but it DOES NOT scroll it back again to where the user was before. So let's say the user scrolled the files list and deleted the last file, when the browser shows again the page file_list.php it won't be scrolled to the bottom of the page again. THE WORKAROUND I CAME OUT WITH: I found a strange way to work around this, basically instead of using header("Location: file_list.php”); in delete_file.php I simply use a javascript call window.history.go(-1). This workaround works perfectly when user is in session (simply using PHP session_start function): the browser RELOADS the file_list.php page and then scrolls it also bask to where it was before. But if the user is NOT in session the browser scrolls the page but IT DOES NOT RELOAD IT before, so the user would still see the file he deleted in the file list. THE QUESTIONS Do you know how to reproduce the behavior of the browser when goes back being in session even if we are not in session? Do you know a way out of this, even another way of solving this matter? Thanks! *I know I could use AJAX to delete the file so I would not have to go every time to delete_file.php, but this is not the answer*.

I read Dave Ward's Answer to the question How to return JSON from a 2.0 asmx web service (in addition to reading other articles at Encosia.com), but I can't figure out how I need to set up the code of my asmx file in order to work with JSON using jQuery. Two Questions: How do I enable JSON in my .NET 2.0 ASMX file? What's a simple jQuery call that could consume the service using JSON? Also, I notice that since I'm using .NET 2.0, I i'm not able to implement using System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService.
