• URL tracking functionality

  I want my webpage to have two parts. The top part has a textbox. When the user types a URL into the textbox, the bottom part browses to the content of that URL. When the user clicks a link within the bottom part, the bottom part navigates to the new URL, and the textbox in the top part changes to the new URL. How can I do it? NOTE: This behavior is the same as in Google Translate (e.g. here), but without any translation.

• When does innovative software development shows?

  I've been working as a software developer for almost a year (not much though) in a corporate environment but all I've done so far is a raw software implementation of company needs. Senior coworkers don't seem to be doing some fairly different stuff. In fact their "benefit" for being experienced is simply an app design and getting their hands on new projects first. My elder software developer friend's jobs don't seem to differ from the overall picture. Currently I'm a student of a CS department and what I really want to bring in this world is some innovative(not new but innovative) stuff that haven't been there. Something as great as google wave or JARVIS (if that can be done at all) or even much better, but yet it looked like that's not possible. The question is: when do people in a corporate environment choose to create something innovative? (from your experience/thoughts)

  Let's say we have this code (forget about prototypes for a moment): function A(){ var foo = 1; this.method = function(){ return foo; } } var a = new A(); is the inner function recompiled each time the function A is run? Or is it better (and why) to do it like this: function method = function(){ return this.foo; } function A(){ this.foo = 1; this.method = method; } var a = new A(); Or are the javascript engines smart enough not to create a new 'method' function every time? Specifically Google's v8 and node.js. Also, any general recommendations on when to use which technique are welcome. In my specific example, it really suits me to use the first example, but I know thath the outer function will be instantiated many times.

  I have a simple app with two basic screens, a UIMapView and a UITableView. I'd like to have a toolbar at the bottom with a couple of buttons and a UISegmentedControl with two segments: "Map" and "Table". (The layout is similar to the Google Maps app that ships with the iPhone.) How can I keep the same toolbar while presenting either the UIMapView (with a UIMapViewController) or the UITableView (with a UITableViewController) when the user switches back and forth on the segmented control? Of course, I can just create an identical toolbar for each of the two different views and display them separately, but is there a better way?

• What's the best way to match a query to a set of keywords?

  Pretty much what you would assume Google does. Advertisers come in and big on keywords, lets say "ipod", "ipod nano", "ipod 60GB", "used ipod", etc. Then we have a query, "I want to buy an ipod nano" or "best place to buy used ipods" what kind of algorithms and systems are used to match those queries to the keyword set. I would imagine that some of those keyword sets are huge, 100k keywords made up of one or more actual words. on top of that queries can be 1-n words as well. Any thoughts, links to wikipedia I can start reading? From what I know already I would use some stemmed hash in disk(CDB?) and a bloom filter to check to see if I should even go to disk.

• SEO URL building - simple or hierarchy

  I run an online shop and I wonder what would be more SEO-friendly URL for a product page: a) domain.com/category-name/product-name OR b) domain.com/product-name I already have URL-s for product category pages with format domain.com/category-name. On one hand I heard (but cannot find proof for) that Google like tree hierarchies in URL (vote for "a"). On the other hand though longer URL could lead to smaller kewyord density, also "product_name" comes as the last URL part so probably the least important (vote for "b"). Maybe both options are equally SEO-effective? PS. I know about canonical URL's but this is not the case, I don't want/need both URL's formats, just want to choose the best.

• Finding the right version of the right JAR in a maven repository

  I'm converting a build that has 71 .jar files in its global lib/ directory to use Maven. Of course, these have been pulled from the web by lots of developers over the past ten years of this project's history, and weren't always added to VCS with all the necessary version info, etc. Is there an easy, automated way to go from that set of .jar files to the corresponding <dependency/> elements for use in my pom.xml files? I'm hoping for a web page where I can submit the checksum of a jar file and get back an XML snippet. The google hits for 'maven repository search' are basically just finding name-based searches. And http://repo1.maven.org/ has no search whatsoever, as far as I can see. Update: GrepCode looks like it can find projects given an MD5 checksum. But it doesn't provide the particular details (groupId, artifactId) that Maven needs.

  G'day everyone, I am currently trying to send meeting invitations to Outlook recipients. After reading several blogs and various literature iCalcreator seems to be the most complete iCalendar PHP class available. And the documentation is just...crazily complete. If creating a iCal .ics file is OK, I can't find a nice way to send it by email to the attendees without having them to double click on an attachment. Just like Google Calendar and Outlook do, I would like to send emails that will automatically show the buttons Accept | Tentative | Decline upon reception without any other user action involved. If anyone ever had to realize that, I would be more than happy to get your feedback/help or even just relevant guidance. Thanks

I have changed to different MTL versions and the problem persists, but on Google there is no proper answer. I use the g++ compiler. Does anyone have a clye?

• Rails - Trying to query from a date range...everything from today

  I'm trying to figure the best way to query a date range from rails...I looked around on Google but am unsure about how to use this syntax. I have a Model that has various events and I like to add to my find condition a caveat that should only show events where the field :st_date is today or later, in effect only show me data that is current, nothing that happened before today. I ran into a problem because I have no end date to stop the query, I want to query everything from today to next month. I was thinking something like @events = Event.find(:all, :conditions => ["start_date between ? and ?", date.Today, date.next_month.beginning_of_month]) but I get the error undefined local variable or method `date'...... Do I need do anything particular to use the Date class? Or is there something wrong with my query syntax? I would really appreciate any help.

  Hi. I have some web services and I am creating a web client using ws-import. When creating the client I have this line: MyServiceService service = new MyServiceService(); It works fine as it is. I have the same web services running on another server and I was wondering if I could access them using the same client. Is it possible to change the wsdl url of the client? Ctrl-Space in Eclipse gives me 2 parameters which I can enter into MyServiceService which are URL arg0 and Qname arg1. Is this what I'm looking for? • How is the Trac Project List page customised?

  We've been using Trac for a while now for our developers only. However we are now opening it up for our (internal) clients. We have a project listing page (based on the default one that comes with Trac). What we'd like to do, is display more information about the project than what is currently available. I have searched google and here, to see if I can find how to get more information. There seems to be a variable called $project which has .name, .description and .href as attributes. Is there somewhere, a list of the attributes available? Or perhaps a different solution altogether that will allow us to display more information on the project list page.   Hi, In order to do some statistical analysis I need to extract values in a column of an Excel sheet. I have been using the Apache POI package to read from Excel files, and it works fine when one needs to iterate over rows. However I couldn't find anything about getting columns neither in the API (link text) nor through google searching. As I need to get max and min values of different columns and generate random numbers using these values, so without picking up individual columns, the only other option is to iterate over rows and columns to get the values and compare one by one, which doesn't sound all that time-efficient.   I've got my Eclipse 3.4 envirnoment set up nice and cozy the way I like it. Took me some time too, to find all the plugins (Mylin, PDT, Subclipse), set all the settings, etc. Now I see that some of the plugins (like PDT) only support 3.5 in their latest versions. Is it possible to update from 3.4 to 3.5? I'd hate to do it all again. I read in some mailing list where they noted that it's possible, but the conversation trailed off in another direction. Google wasn't much help, and Eclipse's documentation either.

  Dear Everyone, I don't know whether stackoverflow covers NLP, so I am gonna give this a shot. I am interested to find the semantic relatedness of two words from a specific domain, i.e. "image quality" and "noise". I am doing some research to determine if reviews of a cameras are positive or negative for a particular attribute of the camera. (like image quality in each one of the reviews). However, not everybody uses the exact same wording "image quality" in the posts, so I am out to see if there is a way for me to build something like that: "image quality" which includes ("noise", "color", "sharpness", etc etc) so I can wrap all everything within one big umbrella. I am doing this for another language, so Wordnet is not necessarily helpful. And no, I do now work for Google or Microsoft so I do not have data from people's clicking behavior as input data either. However, I do have a lot of text, pos-tagged, segmented etc. Thanks
