Hello,
I'm looking for some tool on windows/linux which draws the layout of the network I'm in. Btw, don't think I'm just a user in this network. I don't have any admin controls.
I'm looking for a chat protocol which:
Has easy to use clients which will run on both Windows and Linux.
Has a server which I can run myself on Linux (preferably easy to set up).
Supports duplexed voice and video with minimal hassle (optional).
Is open source/free software.
Is there a protocol that fulfils these requirements?
Is there a native|portable tool that can give me an unicode (or at least system local-compatible) list of all files and directories under a path recursively, without recursing into junction points or links, in Windows?
For example, the built-in dir command, as well as takeown and icacls run into an infinite loop with the Application Data directory (1).
EDIT I would like to be able to get a text file or at least easy clipboard transfer as output.
I am settings up a lab and wanted to be sure the following makes sense\is possible:
One server running vsphere with two fiber HBAs
2 Windows 2012 Hyper-V VMs each bound to an HBA
I'm using vsphere because it supports nested visualization, but I'm really setting up this lab to test out hyper-v and live migrations.
Will I easily be able to bind each VM to a physical HBA on the host or are there any caveats I should know about?
I am a fan of ReadyBoost and have seen good results using it with my work laptop. I tried something today and connected a second flash drive (2GB) and configured it for use with ReadyBoost. The first is an 8GB configured with 4GB for ReadyBoost. I'm using Windows 7 RC 7100 and was wondering if using more than one ReadyBoost drive helps?
I mapped a network drive to a location that needs a password. Now whenever my computer starts up, it tells me that it could not connect to that network drive because a password is needed. How do I make set my computer to remember the password for that mapped network drive?
EDIT: My PC is running Windows XP Professional
What is the real meaning of the "Select a language to match the language version of the non-Unicode programs you want to use" dialog under Control Panel-Regional Settings-Advanced in WinXP and Win2003?
According to the dialog text, Windows will use this to display the resource strings such as menus. The treatment of text files is application-specific, so this setting will not affect that.
But can I expect any other change in behavior from this setting? Any insights into what is really going wrong?
I have removed a device from Device Manager, Windows 2003 Server. This device will installed when computer rebooted. How can I revert this change so it doesn't remove it anymore on reboot? Where in the registry can this be removed and prevented.
Is there a command to power down the display in Windows XP? That is, a command that causes the video card to stop sending a signal to the monitor until input is received, much as power management does after a time.
Hi All

Hi,
I know that RAM-Disk are fast, faster than any Disk but they lose their contents on a shutdown of the operating system. The capacity is limited to the RAM.

Hi all,
We have a database file (foxpro) on a Windows share (2003 server), we're having some problems where the program that writes to this file has to retry as the file is locked, this all happens very quickly and within a few seconds the file is available but the problem is it shouldn't be locked. Does anyone know how we can view what's locking it? Any tools available?
Thanks
James
How can I prevent screensaver to run on windows xp? I can't disable it because of some security software, but if there is a small program that can simulate some keypress every 2-3 min that should do the job.
I am trying to burn an iso using the built-in Windows 7 burner. After it burns (with verifying turned on) all the disc has on when viewing the directory is a desktop.ini file.

How can I sort a text according to hashtag on Windows-7?
I have a long text (.txt format) which looks something like this:
Blah blah #Test
123123 #Really
Blah bluh #Really
klfdmngl #Test
I would like to conveniently, quickly and automatically be able to sort the text so that it looks like this:
Blah blah #Test
klfdmngl #Test
123123 #Really
Blah bluh #Really
I have to do this on a daily basis so I would like to be able to do it in as few steps as possible.
Hi all,

Hello
There are a couple of videos on the Web whose soundtracks I'd like to rip so I can listen to them while walking.
What webapps/applications (for Windows), free or affordable, are there that will let me record whatever is being played?
(That is following this SO thread that didn't get many replies)
Thanks!
Tal
I created a AD 2003 GPO to add a couple of the company's links to everyone's IE. I have the following:
Checked: Place Favorites and Links at the Top of the List...
Unchecked: Everything else
Then:
Favorites
|-Company Link One
|-Company Link Two
Links
However, the GPO seems to add Favorites Bar, Microsoft Websites, MSN Websites, and Windows Live folders. If they are deleted it seems to make them come back. Anyone know how to fix this?
Here are the specs to put things into context:
ECS P4M800PRO-M478 (V1.0)
Intel P4 "Northwood" 2.8C GHz (HT) Socket 478
2x 512 MB PC2-4200 DDR2-533 RAM
Visiontek Radeon HD 3650 512 MB DDR2 AGP
Maxtor 120 GB SATA HDD
The Best Power 500 W ATX PSU
Anyways, it's not booting Windows XP SP3 properly. Specifically, there is a sound when it fails to boot and the computer automatically restarts. You can listen to the sound here.
What could be the problem?
FYI: I'm using Windows 7.
In one case, I was just writing a test app to enumerate all files on my system, and I get an "access denied" error for "c:\documents and settings" (which was returned by .net when I said 'give me all subfolders in c:\').
What gives?!
Thanks!

running a Citrix XenApp 6.5 Farm with a strange problem.
Using Ricoh UPD 3.10 and every time a user log on into a Citrix Session and get the printers connected (via logon script) Windows shows the "Finishing installation..." dialog for every printer.
The Drivers are installed on all Citrix Server and every time a user connects a printer the dialog appears.
Are there any settings how to disable this behaviour?
