  • How to implement Survey page using ASP.NET MVC?

    I need to implement the survey page using ASP.NET MVC (v.4) That functionality has already been implemented in our project using ASP.NET WebForms. (I really searched a lot for real examples of similar functionality implemented via MVC, but failed) Goal: staying on the same page (in webforms -'Survey.aspx') each time user clicks 'Next Page', load next bunch of questions (controls) which user is going to answer. Type of controls in questions are defined only in run-time (retrieved from Data Base).   • Popping UIView crashes app

    I'm basically pushing a UIView from a UITableViewController and all it contains is a UIWebView.   • CA2000 passing object reference to base constructor in C#

    I receive a warning when I run some code through Visual Studio's Code Analysis utility which I'm not sure how to resolve. Perhaps someone here has come across a similar issue, resolved it, and is willing to share their insight. I'm programming a custom-painted cell used in a DataGridView control. The code resembles: public class DataGridViewMyCustomColumn : DataGridViewColumn { public DataGridViewMyCustomColumn() : base(new DataGridViewMyCustomCell()) { } It generates the following warning: CA2000 : Microsoft.Reliability : In method 'DataGridViewMyCustomColumn.DataGridViewMyCustomColumn()' call System.IDisposable.Dispose on object 'new DataGridViewMyCustomCell()' before all references to it are out of scope. I understand it is warning me DataGridViewMyCustomCell (or a class that it inherits from) implements the IDisposable interface and the Dispose() method should be called to clean up any resources claimed by DataGridViewMyCustomCell when it is no longer. The examples I've seen on the internet suggest a using block to scope the lifetime of the object and have the system automatically dispose it, but base isn't recognized when moved into the body of the constructor so I can't write a using block around it... which I'm not sure I'd want to do anyway, since wouldn't that instruct the run time to free the object which could still be used later inside the base class? My question then, is the code okay as is? Or, how could it be refactored to resolve the warning? I don't want to suppress the warning unless it is truly appropriate to do so.

  • A call to PInvoke function '[...]' has unbalanced the stack

    Hey I'm getting this weird error on some stuff I've been using for quite a while. It may be a new thing in Visual Studio 2010 but I'm not sure. I'm trying to call a unamanged function written in C++ from C#. From what I've read on the internet and the error message itself it's got something to do with the fact that the signature in my C# file is not the same as the one from C++ but I really can't see it. First of all this is my unamanged function below: TEngine GCreateEngine(int width,int height,int depth,int deviceType); And here is my function in C#: [DllImport("Engine.dll", EntryPoint = "GCreateEngine", CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall)] public static extern IntPtr CreateEngine(int width,int height,int depth,int device); When I debug into C++ I see all arguments just fine so thus I can only think it's got something to do with transforming from TEngine (which is a pointer to a class named CEngine) to IntPtr. I've used this before in VS2008 with no problem. I hope my problem is clear enough for you guys to understand.

  • Troubleshooting Windows Authentication problems (no challenge) in IIS 7.5?

    I know that there are thousands of reports of people having trouble getting Integrated Windows Authentication to work with IIS, but they all seem to lead to web pages that don't apply or solutions that I've already tried. I've deployed dozens of sites like this before, so either there's something bizarre going on with the server/configuration, or I've been looking at this too long and not seeing the obvious. Simply put, everything works perfectly on my local machine, but falls apart on the production server, which as far as I can tell has the exact same configuration. On the local machine: The machine is running Windows 7 Ultimate, Service Pack 1, IIS 7.5. The site has been tested successfully, using both IIS and the VS Web Development Server. The IIS site config has all authentication methods disabled except Windows Authentication. The local machine is not on any domain. The Providers set up are Negotiate and NTLM (not Negotiate:Kerberos). Extended Protection is Off. All browsers tested (IE, Firefox, Chrome) show the challenge prompt and allow me to log in to the localhost domain with my (local) Windows account. All browsers tested also work using an opaque local IP address - so the browsers themselves don't seem to care whether the site appears "local" or "remote". I've added a display line to the web page which shows the currently-logged-in user and it shows exactly what I would expect (whichever local user I logged in with). On the remote machine: The server is running Windows Server 2008 R2, IIS 7.5. Loading the web page results in an immediate 401.2 error: You are not authorized to view this page due to invalid authentication headers. No challenge prompt ever appears. The IIS site config has all authentication methods disabled except Windows Authentication. The remote machine is not on any domain. The Providers set up are Negotiate and NTLM (not Negotiate:Kerberos). Extended Protection is Off. On the remote machine (remote desktop session), the same error appears in Internet Explorer regardless of whether the domain is localhost or the external IP address. If I try to view the remote web site from my local machine, the error is still 401, but a slightly different 401. No subcode, with the text: Access is denied due to invalid credentials. The Windows Authentication IIS role feature is installed. The WindowsAuthentication Module is added (at the Server level). The exact same error occurs if I turn off Windows Authentication and enable Basic Authentication. The site does load if I turn off Windows Authentication and enable Anonymous (obviously). I've already followed all of the troubleshooting steps on Microsoft Support: Troubleshooting HTTP 401 errors in IIS I've already tried the workaround shown on another Microsoft support page (supposedly to force NTLM as the only method). Last but not least, I tried turning on FREB for 401.2 errors and the results don't seem to tell me anything useful, all I see is the following warning: MODULE_SET_RESPONSE_ERROR_STATUS ModuleName IIS Web Core Notification 2 HttpStatus 401 HttpReason Unauthorized HttpSubStatus 2 ErrorCode 2147942405 ConfigExceptionInfo Notification AUTHENTICATE_REQUEST ErrorCode Access is denied. (0x80070005) ...this seems to just be telling me what I already know (that it's simply rejecting the request instead of negotiating the credentials). The trace does indicate that the WindowsAuthentication module is correctly loaded because there is a NOTIFY_MODULE_START line with ModuleName = WindowsAuthentication (and various other ASP.NET follow-up events - [un]fortunately, no interesting errors or warnings here). Can anyone tell me what I might be missing here? Quick Update: I'm a little uncomfortable sending a whole Wireshark dump as it would reveal IPs, URLs and other stuff, but I did a side-by-side comparison of the HTTP responses from localhost and the remote server in Fiddler, and it seems fairly self-evident what the problem is: Localhost: HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized Cache-Control: private Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8 Server: Microsoft-IIS/7.5 WWW-Authenticate: Negotiate WWW-Authenticate: NTLM X-Powered-By: ASP.NET Date: Sat, 17 Dec 2011 23:42:34 GMT Content-Length: 6399 Proxy-Support: Session-Based-Authentication Remote: HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized Content-Type: text/html Server: Microsoft-IIS/7.5 X-Powered-By: ASP.NET Date: Sat, 17 Dec 2011 23:43:13 GMT Content-Length: 1293 Aside from a few seemingly-inconsequential differences like cache-control, the main difference is that the remote server is not sending the WWW-Authenticate headers back to the client. So, I guess that narrows the question down to: Why is IIS not sending WWW-Authenticate headers when Windows Authentication appears to be installed, loaded, and exclusively enabled?

When running any code that accesses DirectX from my managed code i get this error: DLL 'C:\Windows\assembly\GAC\Microsoft.DirectX.DirectSound\1.0.2902.0__31bf3856ad364e35\Microsoft.DirectX.DirectSound.dll' is attempting managed execution inside OS Loader lock. Do not attempt to run managed code inside a DllMain or image initialization function since doing so can cause the application to hang. DevicesCollection coll = new DevicesCollection(); and Device d = new Device(DSoundHelper.DefaultCaptureDevice); and Capture c = new Capture(DSoundHelper.DefaultCaptureDevice); all cause the LoaderLock MDA to pop up and tell me there is a problem. I have scoured the internet (stackoverflow included) for solutions to this problem, but most people just say to turn off the warning, which does not work. When I turn off the warning, a generic ApplicationException is thrown, which is even less useful. I have seen the answers to this question as well, which didn't help because he said to remove the code that is causing the error. Others have said "fix your code." My questions are: how can I call any (preferably managed) DirectX code from C# without getting this error?

  • new ActiveXObject('Word.Application') creates new winword.exe process when IE security does not allo

    We are using MS Word as a spell checker for a few fields on a private company web site, and when IE security settings are correct it works well. (Zone for the site set to Trusted, and trusted zone modified to allow control to run without prompting.) The script we are using creates a word object and closes it afterward. While the object exists, a winword.exe process runs, but it is destroyed when the word object is closed. If our site is not set in the trusted zone (Internet zone with default security level) the call that creates the word object fails as expected, but the winword.exe process is still created. I do not have any way to interact with this process in the script, so the process stays around until the user logs off (users have no way to manually destroy the process, and it wouldn't be a good solution even if they did.) The call that attempts to create the object is... try { oWordApplication = new ActiveXObject('Word.Application'); } catch(error) { // irrelevant code removed, described in comments.. // notify user spell check cannot be used // disable spell check option } So every time the page is loaded this code may be run again, creating yet another orphan winword.exe process. oWordApplication is, of course, undefined in the catch block. I would like to be able to detect the browser security settings beforehand, but I have done some searching on this and do not think that it is possible. Management here is happy with it as it is. As long as IE security is set correctly it works, and it works well for our purposes. (We may eventually look at other options for spell check functionality, but this was quick, inexpensive, and does everything we need it to do.) This last problem bugs me and I'd like to do something about it, but I'm out of ideas and I have other things that are more in need of my attention. Before I put it aside, I thought I'd ask for suggestions here...

  • Simple jquery ajax call leaks memory in ie.

    I created a web page that makes an ajax call every second. In Internet Explorer 7, it leaks memory badly (20MB in about 15 minutes). The program is very simple. It just runs a javascript function that makes an ajax call. The server returns an empty string, and the javascript does nothing with it. I use setTimout to run the function every second, and I'm using Drip to watch the thing. I'm not doing anything with the DOM, and if I comment out the ajax call, the memory leak stops. So it looks like the leak is entirely in the ajax call. Does jquery ajax inherently create some sort of circular reference, and if so, how can I free it? By the way, it doesn't leak in Firefox. Someone suggested running the test in another VM and see if the results are the same. Rather than setting up another VM, I found a laptop that was running XP Home with IE8. It exhibits the same problem. I tried some older versions of jquery and got better results, but the problem didn't go away entirely until I abandoned ajax in jquery and went with more traditional (and ugly) ajax.

    Hello, In my ASP.NET MVC applications I use DDD and it works very well. I'm new to Silverlight development and would like to know how could I apply DDD to build a new architecture. I had a look on WCF RIA Services and what is exposed by default it's the simple CRUD methods. I would like to use MVVM pattern. I thought about general architecture and don't know if what I'm thinking about make sense in Silverlight development. I thought about creating Domain Model on the top of SVC. I would than expose by WCF RIA some operation that deals with aggreates in my Domain Model instead of simple CRUD. What I would aloso expose is the ViewModel entieties that could be used by the view. I don't know if it's make sense, if I'm going in a good direction or if applying DDD in Silverlight 4 development is a good practice. I didn't find much informations on Internet. I'll appreciate if you could point me to some interesting links or if you can give me some hints. Thanks for your help.

  • System.Net.WebClient doesn't work with Windows Authentication

    I am trying to use System.Net.WebClient in a WinForms application to upload a file to an IIS6 server which has Windows Authentication as it only 'Authentication' method. WebClient myWebClient = new WebClient(); myWebClient.Credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential(@"boxname\peter", "mypassword"); byte[] responseArray = myWebClient.UploadFile("http://localhost/upload.aspx", fileName); I get a 'The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized', actually it is a 401.2 Both client and IIS are on the same Windows Server 2003 Dev machine. When I try to open the page in Firefox and enter the same correct credentials as in the code, the page comes up. However when using IE8, I get the same 401.2 error. Tried Chrome and Opera and they both work. I have 'Enable Integrated Windows Authentication' enabled in the IE Internet options. The Security Event Log has a Failure Audit: Logon Failure: Reason: An error occurred during logon User Name: peter Domain: boxname Logon Type: 3 Logon Process: ÈùÄ Authentication Package: NTLM Workstation Name: boxname Status code: 0xC000006D Substatus code: 0x0 Caller User Name: - Caller Domain: - Caller Logon ID: - Caller Process ID: - Transited Services: - Source Network Address: 127.0.0.1 Source Port: 1476 I used Process Monitor and Fiddler to investigate but to no avail. Why would this work for 3rd party browsers but not with IE or System.Net.WebClient?

    Hi, I am making my Master's Thesis with LaTeX, but I can't get the provided style to work. Specifically, I get the error 'Undefined control sequence' when using the function makeformaltitlepages, which is defined in mscthesis.sty. On the internet, the only answer I could find is the straightforward 'you probably made a typo', or 'you probably forgot to include the package', but I have reason to believe neither of those apply to me. I am quite sure that the function exists, for when I add a little verification, using the @ifundefined command, the logfile shows that the function actually does exist. And, as can be seen in the following piece of code, I also include the package: \usepackage{mscthesis} % setup information like author, company, title, etc. \begin{document} \formatmatter \thispagestyle{empty} \maketitle \makeatletter \@ifundefined{makeformaltitlepages}{\message{Function is not defined.}}{\message{Function is defined.}} \makeatother \makeformaltitlepages{\input{abstract}} % add chapters, sections, etc. and end the document Now, the output shows the line "Function is defined." just before the output of maketitle (which I think is rather strange on its own, but that might be a flushing issue), followed by the following infinitely repeated error (well, cut off after 100 times by LaTeX): Function is defined. // some gibberish about font info ! While the error keeps repeating, the line that starts with '#4' cycles between the following four lines: #4 \errhelp \@err@ ... \let \@err@ ... \@empty \def \MessageBreak... \endgroup Ok, so, do any of you have a suggestion of how I might continue to hunt this bug?     We have a large codebase that uses ADO under 32-bit, and we need to convert the code to 64-bit. We were using the Jet provider, but I know this is not supported under x64. We're importing definitions from msado15.dll. As of a while ago a 64-bit version of this DLL became available, but we are unable to get it to work. Obviously, we tested the code under 32 bit and got the desired results. On the 64-bit machine, the code explicitly imports from the known 64-bit version of msado15.dll (v6.1.7600.nnn). The machine has had the Office Data Providers (AccessDatabaseEngine_x64.exe) applied to get the new ACE drivers (ACEODBC.DLL, v14.nnn.nnn.nnn). If I look at Data Source under Administrator Tools (I know ODBC isn't the same as ADO, it was just to confirm the DLL was installed correctly), it shows the expected DLL. I can even confirm, using Process Explorer, that the version of msado15.dll it loads at run time (thus confirming that COM is finding the ADO dll) is the 64-bit version. I believe we have MDAC 2.8 installed (we have msado28.tlb in the same place as msado15.dll, but that might have been installed by AccessDatabaseEngine_x64.exe). The test machine is Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit. The test code was recompiled on that machine using VS2008 for x64 in full Release and run externally. And yet, we still get COM error 0x800a0e7a (Provider not found). Is there anything any one can suggest as to why this isn't working, or what further tests / checks I can perform to verify that I have all the right stuff on the machine (and thus, that it should work)? I know that ODBC will work under x64 (tried the test program using that) but rewriting our code base for ODBC would be undesirable!

    I am trying to install a SSL certificate on IIS 7. I have download a free trial certificate. After that, this is the steps what I do: Click the Start menu and select Administrative Tools. Start Internet Services Manager and click the Server Name. In the center section, double click on the Server Certificates button in the Security section. From the Actions menu click Complete Certificate Request. Enter the location for the certificate file. Enter a Friendly name. Click OK. Under Sites select the site to be secured with the SSL certificate. From the Actions menu, click Bindings.This will open the Site Bindings window. In the Site Bindings window, click Add. This opens the Add Site Binding window. Select https from the Type menu. Set the port to 443. Select the SSL Certificate you just installed from the SSL Certificate menu. Click OK. This is the step where I get the message: One or more intermediate certificates in the certificate chain are missing. To resolve this issue, make sure that all of intermediate certificates are installed. For more information, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954755 After this, when I access the web site on its first page, I get this message: There is a problem with this website's security certificate. What am I doing wrong?

  • JavaMail not sending Subject or From under jetty:run-war

    Has anyone seen JavaMail not sending proper MimeMessages to an SMTP server, depending on how the JVM in started? At the end of the day, I can't send JavaMail SMTP messages with Subject: or From: fields, and it appears other headers are missing, only when running the app as a war. The web project is built with Maven and I'm testing sending JavaMail using a browser and a simple mail.jsp to debug and see different behavior when launching the app with: 1) mvn jetty:run (mail sends fine, with proper Subject and From fields) 2) mvn jetty:run-war (mail sends fine, but missing Subject, From, and other fields) I've meticulously run diff on the (verbose) Maven debug output (-X), and there are zero differences in the runtime dependencies between the two. I've also compared System properties, and they are identical. Something else is happening the jetty:run-war case that changes the way JavaMail behaves. What other stones need turning? Curiously, I've tried a debugger in both situations and found that the javax.mail.internet.MimeMessage instance is getting created differently. The webapp is using Spring to send email picked off of an Apache ActiveMQ queue. When running the app as mvn jetty:run the MimeMessage.contentStream variable is used for message content. When running as mvn jetty:run-war, the MimeMessage.content variable is used for the message contents, and the content = ASCIIUtility.getBytes(is); call removes all of the header data from the parsed content. Since this seemed very odd, and debugging Spring/ActiveMQ is a deep dive, I created a simplified test without any of that infrastructure: just a JSP using mail-1.4.2.jar, yet the same headers are missing. Also of note, these headers are missing when running the WAR file under Tomcat 5.5.27. Tomcat behaves just like Jetty when running the WAR, with the same missing headers. With JavaMail debugging turned on, I clearly see different output.   • Android -- Can't play any videos (mp4/mov/3gp/etc.)?

    Hello all, I'm having great difficulty getting my Android application to play videos from the SD card. It doesn't matter what size, bitrate, video format, or any other setting I can think of, neither the emulator nor my G1 will play anything I try to encode. I've also tried a number of videos from the web (various video formats, bitrates, with and without audio tracks, etc.), and none of those work either. All I keep getting is a dialog box that says: "Cannot play video" "Sorry, this video cannot be played." There are errors reported in LogCat, but I don't understand them and I've tried searching the Internet for further explanations without any luck.     In Windows and Python version 3.3.2, I try and call the python module like so: hash2 = crypt(word, salt) I import it at the top of my program like so: from crypt import * The result I get is the following: Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\none\of\your\business\adams.py", line 10, in <module> from crypt import * File "C:\Python33\lib\crypt.py", line 3, in <module> import _crypt ImportError: No module named '_crypt' However, when I execute the same file adams.py in Ubuntu, with Python 2.7.3, it executes perfectly - no errors. I tried the following to resolve the issue for my Windows & Python 3.3.2 (though I'm sure the OS isn't the issue, the Python version or my use of syntax is the issue): Rename the directory in the Python33 directory from Lib to lib Rename the crypt.py in lib to _crypt.py. However, it turns out the entire crypt.py module depends on an external module called _crypt.py too. Browsed internet to download anything remotely appropriate to resemble _crypt.py It's not Python, right? It's me...(?) I'm using syntaxes to import and use external modules that are acceptable in 2.7.3, but not in 3.3.2. Or have I found a bug in 3.3.2?

It's our application, but we're trying to specifically replicate a customer's installation so the app folder has been copied entirely from their production server onto our test machine, and then we've created the Virtual Directory and Web Application for IIS manually. The problem I have is that when we access the app, we get the standard IIS security error message: The page cannot be displayed You have attempted to execute a CGI, ISAPI, or other executable program from a directory that does not allow programs to be executed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please try the following: •Contact the Web site administrator if you believe this directory should allow execute access. HTTP Error 403.1 - Forbidden: Execute access is denied. Internet Information Services (IIS) Now this is pretty standard, except as far as I can see it's not anything so simple. I have checked: IIS user has read access to the directory IIS user and Network Service users have read/write access to the Temporary ASP.NET Files folder Virtual directory is set to the correct version of ASP.NET ASP.NET 1.1 Web Service Extension is allowed Virtual directory has the correct mappings of file extensions and all verbs to the aspnet 1.1 DLL Virtual directory properties allow Scripts and Executables to be run Anonymous access is turned on and the username and password is correct What am I missing?

    I'm trying to understand how RouteExistingFiles works. So I've created a new MVC 3 internet project (MVC 4 behaves the same way) and put a HTMLPage.html file to the Content folder of my project. Now I went to the Global.Asax file and edited the RegisterRoutes function so it looks like this: public static void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes) { routes.RouteExistingFiles = true; //Look for routes before looking if a static file exists routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new {controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional} // Parameter defaults ); } Now it should give me an error when I'm requesting a localhost:XXXX/Content/HTMLPage.html since there's no "Content" controller and the request definitely hits the default pattern. But instead I'm seeing my HTMLPage. What am I doing wrong here? Update: I think I'll have to give up. Even if I'm adding a route like this one: routes.MapRoute("", "Content/{*anything}", new {controller = "Home", action = "Index"}); it still shows me the content of the HTMLPage. When I request a url like ~/Content/HTMLPage I'm getting the Index page as expected, but when I add a file extenstion like .html or .txt the content is shown (or a 404 error if the file does not exist). If anyone can check this in VS2012 please let me know what result you're getting. Thank you.

    I have an ASP.NET (MVC) application in which I would like to load WebForms .aspx files that are embedded as resources in 3rd party assemblies. The reason I want to do this is to make a sort of "plug-in" system where a .dll file can be dropped in a folder and then picked up at runtime to provide additional functionality to the base application. I've gotten the plugin system to work (I'm using MEF) with plugins written in ASP.NET MVC (Views and Controllers), but for plain old ASP.NET (Pages), I've got myself into a bit of a problem. For the execution of the embedded .aspx file (which, in the usual WebForm way Inherits="My.BasePage") I've created a custom VirtualPathProvider, ResourceFile ControllerFactory and PageController. Within the PageController I've overridden the Execute(RequestContext) method and within it I'm trying to compile the .aspx with BuildManager.CreateInstanceFromVirtualPath(virtualPath, type). When doing this, I get the error message "Could not load type 'My.BasePage'", even though I'm giving the BuildManager the System.Type of My.BasePage in the call to CreateInstanceFromVirtualPath. I seem to be stuck at this point. I've tried to Server.Transfer() to the custom VirtualPathProvider handled URL to the same .aspx file, but that fails with the same error message. How can I help BuildManager find out where My.BasePage is defined and how come the Type requiredBaseType parameter of CreateInstanceFromVirtualPath seems to be ignored? I've tried to call BuildManager.AddReferencedAssembly(), but that only fails with "This method can only be called during the application's pre-start initialization stage". MSDN says: "The method must be called during the Application_PreStartInit stage of the application", but I have no such event in my HttpApplication object and find absolutely zero information about it on the internet. Either way, I don't want to be calling BuildManager.AddReferencedAssembly() in or before the Application_Start event, since that makes me have to recycle the whole application to be able to add new plugins to the system. Does anyone have any clues? Any other ideas on how I can "execute" an .aspx file that is embedded as a resource within an assembly through reflection? Can I for instance pre-compile the .aspx file within the same assembly as the base Page class it inherits?
