  I want to start looking for jobs in great companies and I have four years of enterprise corporations development, three years with C#.NET and alomst one year with Ruby On Rails, JS, etc... But when I look up interview questions from Google, Amazon, Fog Creek, DropBox, etc... they are really targeted at students that are coming fresh out of college and still remember what was Dynamic Programming and Dijkstra algorithms ... but I don't! :( It has been a while for me ... If a I need a sort algorithm I would either Google it or there already is a library and method that does it for me. So what should I do? Do they realize that this guy is not coming from college and will ask more general questions about software architecture or nop! I should go back find my old Data structures book from the storage and read them? In that case wht books and language do you recommend to hone my skills?

  I have recently downloaded JMF and don;t know where to start. Most online resources begin directly with programming and give no background of the JMF classes what so ever. So, I was planning on using a book or something that would give me ground-up knowledge of JMF. However, the books available on Amazon are of 1980's and 1990's. Can you please suggest any good books or references? Books preferred. Note: There was this one 2011 book available that was a print-on-demand collection of wikipedia articles on JMF but I decided not to opt for it because wikipedia articles should not be sold for money

  I have been working with Java/web applications in an IT department of a retail company. As much as work goes, there is nothing much to say. Fixing couple of if/else loops, writing some simple business logic etc., is all what I have been doing. Having said that, I feel I have a good technical knowledge, and I am willing to move to companies like Microsoft/Google/Amazon etc., [I want to work in these places, because I feel I am a technical guy, and I am working in a place where most people freak out when the words like 'algorithm' are heard] I can of course prepare algorithms/computer science fundamentals etc.,(I hold a 4 year degree in computer science program) but beyond that, will my experience hold against me ? I doubt I'll even get a call from them seeing my work experience. What kind of questions(apart from the algorithm types) can I expect ?

• How to estimate what kind of server resources you will require at launch?

  How can I go about/what is the best way of estimating what kind of server resources I will require at the launch of a new project. Let's say for instance I'd gathered 10k users email addresses that opted-in to be informed when we launch. I didn't really want to go for a cloud solution at the moment. Should I just get a reasonably-specced dedicated server and go from there, or should I be looking at services like Amazon EC2? Or should I start out with EC2 for the fully-flexible resources, then once things stabilize I'll be able to sort a fixed hosting deal that is adequate elsewhere? Sub-question: What's a good way of estimating what load a particular application will place on the server per user?

Can I use flickr, imageshack or service something like that? Do they allow me to store images for my website? • Cloud proxying service

  I have an app that mashes up images from Bing image search, it's hosted on Heroku written in rails. The app is client side in javascript, so the mashup is done on an html5 canvas - this means though that if I fetch the images direct from the Bing server, the canvas gets dirty and I can't save it. As a quick work around, i have set up a route on my rails app that simply proxies the request to Bing and passes the result back through. Obviously this is a very poor performance solution and will eat up my dynos very quickly. Can anyone suggest a more suitable option? At the moment I'm thinking maybe Amazon EC2 with apache mod_rewrite rules would be better performing and more cost effective. Is there a cloud service (or an app I could deploy to a cloud service) that would be more appropriate for proxying requests for me so that my javascript can fetch the images without dirtying the canvas?

• Would I benefit changing from PHP to Node.js (in context)

  The situation: We are about to roll out what is essentially a logging service. As we are rather PHP heavy, the current implementation use it. We will have about 200 computers (most on the same network) that will each send, via HTTP POST, around 5000 requests/day. With each request containing about 300 bytes of data. The receiving end is hosted at Amazon and is a very simple PHP form with some simple validation that puts everything in a database. Now, I've recently been introduced to Node.js and I'm curious as to if it would be a good fit for the backend here. Granted I could easily build something to test this. But since I haven't fully grasped the async-methology I would really like someone with experience to explain it to me.

  I'm looking for a label to describe the practice of using human-based computation methods or other means of "faking" an algorithm for the sake of getting a product or demo off the ground quickly without spending the time to develop an technical/scalable/analytical solution? Eg: using Amazon Turk to count the number of empty tables in a restaurant. I'm also looking to learn more about this subject, but not sure what to search for. I am planning to buy a remote pointing (not only just pointing, we will be able to track the slides) device for my powerpoint presentations. I always use Ubuntu and powerpoint with libreoffice impress. I have been looking products on amazon, most of them are either for Windows or MAC. I am not sure whether they will work on Ubuntu. I think that at least some of of you have been using a device for presentations on Ubuntu. It would be great if you share one that will work seamlessly with Ubuntu. Thanks.

I had intended on using Pagodabox for my hosting needs, however I now realize that they don't have servers outside of the US. So I'm just looking for some advice or recommendations? Can I still use Pagodabox with CloudFlare? Or would I be better of to use a provider with dedicated servers in Dublin? Such as Amazon bean stock. Any help greatly appreciated.

  I'm developing a web site in php in localhost and as modules of it gets completed, I upload it on the cloud so that my friends can alpha test it. As I keep developing, I've lots of files and I lose track of which file I've edited or changed etc. I've heard of something as 'version control' to manage all those but am not sure how it works. So, my question is: Is there an easy way/service/application available to me to track all the edits/changes/new files and manage the files as I develop the website. As Soon as I'm done with a module, I want to upload it on the cloud (I'm using Amazon Cloud Service). If something happens to the new files, I might want to get back to the old file. And maybe, in a click or two, I get to see the files which I've edited or changed since the last one I've uploaded?

  I find completely contradicting reviews for the VERY same book on amazon and even some book writers are rewarding people for good reviews so basically most of the reviews are totally fake ! You can even figure it out from the reviewer name, which you'll similar to the writer's name and assume that they could actually be from the same country and the reviewer is just being helpful, to the book writer of course ! I can't make my mind for which book I should buy ! I only need a book or two that covers the Java associate and professional topics very well, not just an overview, I need a material that covers everything from A to Z. Even though I've been developing in Java for around 4.5 years but I must not know a detail or two. Would someone kindly shed some light on a good book based on actual experience with the book ?   Hi, I'm using Amazon's simpledb in my app. When parsing xml it gives an error with the code 5. ie. NSXMLParserErrorDomain error 5. Sometimes it works fine and without any significant change in the navigation is gives that error. Again it works fine when i restart the app several times without doing any changes to the code or navigation in the system. I cant figure out the reason why this happens. thanks
