• android Xml-List view with filter

    - by harisali
    Hi, android is new for me. I am trying to develop a program on 1.5 platform but still in progress, plz guide me. I have some information in following format "item1","description1" "item2","description2" "item3","description3" "item4","description4" . . . . I want to show them on screen, I dont know which is recommended way to do this. After google I found 2 method. but I failed to successfully implement any of one. Method 1 I break both columns data into 2 different arrays, then populate listactivity with array of column 1, enable filter & on clicked event I want to raise alert which should show Text clicked in tilte & desc from 2nd array as msg body based on position. But here is problem if using filter index becomes reinitialize :-(, and there didnot find another way to get text of that row. public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); //setContentView(R.layout.main); setListAdapter(new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1, Names)); getListView().setTextFilterEnabled(true); } public void onListItemClick(ListView parent, View v, int position, long id) { Builder builder = new AlertDialog.Builder(this); builder.setTitle(Names[position]); builder.setMessage(description[position] + " -> " + position ); builder.setPositiveButton("ok", null); builder.show(); } <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" > <TextView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="@string/hello" /> </LinearLayout> its not picking right item from position if filter used :-(, plz guide Can you share source code of this Method B Here I tried to generate list row from XML , but giving error that 1.5 jar file didnot allow modification :-( public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { /* ViewInflate inflater=context.getViewInflate(); View row=inflater.inflate(R.layout.row, null, null); */ View row = (View) convertView; if (row==null) { LayoutInflater inflater=context.getLayoutInflater(); // LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) context.getSystemService(context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); row = inflater.inflate(R.layout.row,null); } TextView label=(TextView)row.findViewById(R.id.label); label.setText(items[position]); TextView description=(TextView)row.findViewById(R.id.description); description.setText(items[position]); // ImageView icon=(ImageView)row.findViewById(R.id.icon); // icon.setImageResource(R.drawable.delete); return(row); } Plz suggest what is a right way to acconplish this, so app can show desc of item , has filter too. Plz share If you have any shouce code for this

  • Web Browser Control – Specifying the IE Version

    - by Rick Strahl
    I use the Internet Explorer Web Browser Control in a lot of my applications to display document type layout. HTML happens to be one of the most common document formats and displaying data in this format – even in desktop applications, is often way easier than using normal desktop technologies. One issue the Web Browser Control has that it’s perpetually stuck in IE 7 rendering mode by default. Even though IE 8 and now 9 have significantly upgraded the IE rendering engine to be more CSS and HTML compliant by default the Web Browser control will have none of it. IE 9 in particular – with its much improved CSS support and basic HTML 5 support is a big improvement and even though the IE control uses some of IE’s internal rendering technology it’s still stuck in the old IE 7 rendering by default. This applies whether you’re using the Web Browser control in a WPF application, a WinForms app, a FoxPro or VB classic application using the ActiveX control. Behind the scenes all these UI platforms use the COM interfaces and so you’re stuck by those same rules. Rendering Challenged To see what I’m talking about here are two screen shots rendering an HTML 5 doctype page that includes some CSS 3 functionality – rounded corners and border shadows - from an earlier post. One uses IE 9 as a standalone browser, and one uses a simple WPF form that includes the Web Browser control. IE 9 Browser: Web Browser control in a WPF form: The IE 9 page displays this HTML correctly – you see the rounded corners and shadow displayed. Obviously the latter rendering using the Web Browser control in a WPF application is a bit lacking. Not only are the new CSS features missing but the page also renders in Internet Explorer’s quirks mode so all the margins, padding etc. behave differently by default, even though there’s a CSS reset applied on this page. If you’re building an application that intends to use the Web Browser control for a live preview of some HTML this is clearly undesirable. Feature Delegation via Registry Hacks Fortunately starting with Internet Explore 8 and later there’s a fix for this problem via a registry setting. You can specify a registry key to specify which rendering mode and version of IE should be used by that application. These are not global mind you – they have to be enabled for each application individually. There are two different sets of keys for 32 bit and 64 bit applications. 32 bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MAIN\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION Value Key: yourapplication.exe 64 bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MAIN\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION Value Key: yourapplication.exe The value to set this key to is (taken from MSDN here) as decimal values: 9999 (0x270F) Internet Explorer 9. Webpages are displayed in IE9 Standards mode, regardless of the !DOCTYPE directive. 9000 (0x2328) Internet Explorer 9. Webpages containing standards-based !DOCTYPE directives are displayed in IE9 mode. 8888 (0x22B8) Webpages are displayed in IE8 Standards mode, regardless of the !DOCTYPE directive. 8000 (0x1F40) Webpages containing standards-based !DOCTYPE directives are displayed in IE8 mode. 7000 (0x1B58) Webpages containing standards-based !DOCTYPE directives are displayed in IE7 Standards mode. The added key looks something like this in the Registry Editor: With this in place my Html Html Help Builder application which has wwhelp.exe as its main executable now works with HTML 5 and CSS 3 documents in the same way that Internet Explorer 9 does. Incidentally I accidentally added an ‘empty’ DWORD value of 0 to my EXE name and that worked as well giving me IE 9 rendering. Although not documented I suspect 0 (or an invalid value) will default to the installed browser. Don’t have a good way to test this but if somebody could try this with IE 8 installed that would be great: What happens when setting 9000 with IE 8 installed? What happens when setting 0 with IE 8 installed? Don’t forget to add Keys for Host Environments If you’re developing your application in Visual Studio and you run the debugger you may find that your application is still not rendering right, but if you run the actual generated EXE from Explorer or the OS command prompt it works. That’s because when you run the debugger in Visual Studio it wraps your application into a debugging host container. For this reason you might want to also add another registry key for yourapp.vshost.exe on your development machine. If you’re developing in Visual FoxPro make sure you add a key for vfp9.exe to see the rendering adjustments in the Visual FoxPro development environment. Cleaner HTML - no more HTML mangling! There are a number of additional benefits to setting up rendering of the Web Browser control to the IE 9 engine (or even the IE 8 engine) beyond the obvious rendering functionality. IE 9 actually returns your HTML in something that resembles the original HTML formatting, as opposed to the IE 7 default format which mangled the original HTML content. If you do the following in the WPF application: private void button2_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { dynamic doc = this.webBrowser.Document; MessageBox.Show(doc.body.outerHtml); } you get different output depending on the rendering mode active. With the default IE 7 rendering you get:

Rounded Corners and Shadows - Creating Dialogs in CSS

Home  Refresh

<FIELDSET><LEGEND>Plain Box</LEGEND>

Simple Rounded Corner Box.

</FIELDSET> <FIELDSET><LEGEND>Box with Header</LEGEND>

Box with a Header

Simple Rounded Corner Box.

</FIELDSET> <FIELDSET><LEGEND>Dialog Style Window</LEGEND>

User Sign-in

This dialog is draggable and closable

Username:  Password

Ready

</FIELDSET>

Now lest you think I’m out of my mind and create complete whacky HTML rooted in the last century, here’s the IE 9 rendering mode output which looks a heck of a lot cleaner and a lot closer to my original HTML of the page I’m accessing:

Rounded Corners and Shadows - Creating Dialogs in CSS

           Home           Refresh

     <fieldset>         <legend>Plain Box</legend>                             <div style="border: 2px solid steelblue;                     return true;  // true closes - false leaves open                 }             });     });

IOW, in IE9 rendering mode IE9 is much closer (but not identical) to the original HTML from the page on the Web that we’re reading from. As a side note: Unfortunately, the browser feature emulation can't be applied against the Html Help (CHM) Engine in Windows which uses the Web Browser control (or COM interfaces anyway) to render Html Help content. I tried setting up hh.exe which is the help viewer, to use IE 9 rendering but a help file generated with CSS3 features will simply show in IE 7 mode. Bummer - this would have been a nice quick fix to allow help content served from CHM files to look better. HTML Editing leaves HTML formatting intact In the same vane, if you do any inline HTML editing in the control by setting content to be editable, IE 9’s control does a much more reasonable job of creating usable and somewhat valid HTML. It also leaves the original content alone other than the text your are editing or adding. No longer is the HTML output stripped of excess spaces and reformatted in IEs format. So if I do: private void button3_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { dynamic doc = this.webBrowser.Document; doc.body.contentEditable = true; } and then make some changes to the document by typing into it using IE 9 mode, the document formatting stays intact and only the affected content is modified. The created HTML is reasonably clean (although it does lack proper XHTML formatting for things like

). This is very different from IE 7 mode which mangled the HTML as soon as the page was loaded into the control. Any editing you did stripped out all white space and lost all of your existing XHTML formatting. In IE 9 mode at least *most* of your original formatting stays intact. This is huge! In Html Help Builder I have supported HTML editing for a long time but the HTML mangling by the Web Browser control made it very difficult to edit the HTML later. Previously IE would mangle the HTML by stripping out spaces, upper casing all tags and converting many XHTML safe tags to its HTML 3 tags. Now IE leaves most of my document alone while editing, and creates cleaner and more compliant markup (with exception of self-closing elements like BR/HR). The end result is that I now have HTML editing in place that's much cleaner and actually capable of being manually edited. Caveats, Caveats, Caveats It wouldn't be Internet Explorer if there weren't some major compatibility issues involved in using this various browser version interaction. The biggest thing I ran into is that there are odd differences in some of the COM interfaces and what they return. I specifically ran into a problem with the document.selection.createRange() function which with IE 7 compatibility returns an expected text range object. When running in IE 8 or IE 9 mode however. I could not retrieve a valid text range with this code where loEdit is the WebBrowser control: loRange = loEdit.document.selection.CreateRange() The loRange object returned (here in FoxPro) had a length property of 0 but none of the other properties of the TextRange or TextRangeCollection objects were available. I figured this was due to some changed security settings but even after elevating the Intranet Security Zone and mucking with the other browser feature flags pertaining to security I had no luck. In the end I relented and used a JavaScript function in my editor document that returns a selection range object: function getselectionrange() { var range = document.selection.createRange(); return range; } and call that JavaScript function from my host applications code: *** Use a function in the document to get around HTML Editing issues loRange = loEdit.document.parentWindow.getselectionrange(.f.) and that does work correctly. This wasn't a big deal as I'm already loading a support script file into the editor page so all I had to do is add the function to this existing script file. You can find out more how to call script code in the Web Browser control from a host application in a previous post of mine. IE 8 and 9 also clamp down the security environment a little more than the default IE 7 control, so there may be other issues you run into. Other than the createRange() problem above I haven't seen anything else that is breaking in my code so far though and that's encouraging at least since it uses a lot of HTML document manipulation for the custom editor I've created (and would love to replace - any PROFESSIONAL alternatives anybody?) Registry Key Installation for your Application It’s important to remember that this registry setting is made per application, so most likely this is something you want to set up with your installer. Also remember that 32 and 64 bit settings require separate settings in the registry so if you’re creating your installer you most likely will want to set both keys in the registry preemptively for your application. I use Tarma Installer for all of my application installs and in Tarma I configure registry keys for both and set a flag to only install the latter key group in the 64 bit version: Because this setting is application specific you have to do this for every application you install unfortunately, but this also means that you can safely configure this setting in the registry because it is after only applied to your application. Another problem with install based installation is version detection. If IE 8 is installed I’d want 8000 for the value, if IE 9 is installed I want 9000. I can do this easily in code but in the installer this is much more difficult. I don’t have a good solution for this at the moment, but given that the app works with IE 7 mode now, IE 9 mode is just a bonus for the moment. If IE 9 is not installed and 9000 is used the default rendering will remain in use. It sure would be nice if we could specify the IE rendering mode as a property, but I suspect the ActiveX container has to know before it loads what actual version to load up and once loaded can only load a single version of IE. This would account for this annoying application level configuration… Summary The registry feature emulation has been available for quite some time, but I just found out about it today and started experimenting around with it. I’m stoked to see that this is available as I’d pretty much given up in ever seeing any better rendering in the Web Browser control. Now at least my apps can take advantage of newer HTML features. Now if we could only get better HTML Editing support somehow <snicker>… ah can’t have everything.© Rick Strahl, West Wind Technologies, 2005-2011Posted in .NET FoxPro Windows

  • using Silverlight 3's HtmlPage.Window.Navigate method to reuse an already open browser window

    - by Phil
    Hi, I want to use an external browser window to implement a preview functionality in a silverlight application. There is a list of items and whenever the user clicks one of these items, it's opened in a separate browser window (the content is a pdf document, which is why it is handled ouside of the SL app). Now, to achieve this, I simply use HtmlPage.Window.Navigate(new Uri("http://www.bing.com")); which works fine. Now my client doesn't like the fact that every click opens up a new browser window. He would like to see the browser window reused every time an item is clicked. So I went out and tried implementing this: Option 1 - Use the overload of the Navigate method, like so: HtmlPage.Window.Navigate(new Uri("http://www.bing.com"), "foo"); I was assuming that the window would be reused when the same target parameter value (foo) would be used in subsequent calls. This does not work. I get a new window every time. Option 2 - Use the PopupWindow method on the HtmlPage HtmlPage.PopupWindow(new Uri("http://www.bing.com"), "blah", new HtmlPopupWindowOptions()); This does not work. I get a new window every time. Option 3 - Get a handle to the opened window and reuse that in subsequent calls private HtmlWindow window; private void navigationButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { if (window == null) window = HtmlPage.Window.Navigate(new Uri("http://www.bing.com"), "blah"); else window.Navigate(new Uri("http://www.bing.com"), "blah"); if (window == null) MessageBox.Show("it's null"); } This does not work. I tried the same for the PopupWindow() method and the window is null every time, so a new window is opened on every click. I have checked both the EnableHtmlAccess and the IsPopupWindowAllowed properties, and they return true, as they should. Option 4 - Use Eval method to execute some custom javascript private const string javascript = @"var popup = window.open('', 'blah') ; if(popup.location != 'http://www.bing.com' ){ popup.location = 'http://www.bing.com'; } popup.focus();"; private void navigationButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { HtmlPage.Window.Eval(javascript); } This does not work. I get a new window every time. option 5 - Use CreateInstance to run some custom javascript on the page private void navigationButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { HtmlPage.Window.CreateInstance("thisIsPlainHell"); } and in my aspx I have function thisIsPlainHell() { var popup = window.open('http://www.bing.com', 'blah'); popup.focus(); } Guess what? This does work. The only thing is that the window behaves a little strange and I'm not sure why: I'm behind a proxy and in all other scenarios I'm being prompted for my password. In this case however I am not (and am thus not able to reach the external site - bing in this case). This is not really a huge issue atm, but I just don't understand what's goign on here. Whenever I type another url in the address bar of the popup window (eg www.google.com) and press enter, it opens up another window and prompts me for my proxy password. As a temporary solution option 5 could do, but I don't like the fact that Silverlight is not able to manage this. One of the main reasons my client has opted for Silverlight is to be protected against all the browser specific hacking that comes with javascript. Am I doing something wrong? I'm definitely no javascript expert, so I'm hoping it's something obvious I'm missing here. Cheers, Phil

  • ViewPager cycle between views?

    - by Erdem Azakli
    I want my ViewPager implementation to cycle between views instead of stopping at the last view. For example, if I have 3 views to display via a ViewPager, it should return back to the first View after the third View on fling instead of stopping at that third view. I want it to return to the first page/view when the user flings forward on the last page Thanks, Mypageradapter; package com.example.pictures; import android.content.Context; import android.media.AudioManager; import android.os.Parcelable; import android.support.v4.view.PagerAdapter; import android.support.v4.view.ViewPager; import android.view.LayoutInflater; import android.view.View; public class MyPagerAdapter extends PagerAdapter{ SoundManager snd; int sound1,sound2,sound3; boolean loaded = false; public int getCount() { return 6; } public Object instantiateItem(View collection, int position) { View view=null; LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) collection.getContext() .getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); this.setVolumeControlStream(AudioManager.STREAM_MUSIC); int resId = 0; switch (position) { case 0: resId = R.layout.picture1; view = inflater.inflate(resId, null); break; case 1: resId = R.layout.picture2; view = inflater.inflate(resId, null); break; case 2: resId = R.layout.picture3; view = inflater.inflate(resId, null); break; case 3: resId = R.layout.picture4; view = inflater.inflate(resId, null); break; case 4: resId = R.layout.picture5; view = inflater.inflate(resId, null); break; case 5: resId = R.layout.picture6; view = inflater.inflate(resId, null); break; } ((ViewPager) collection).addView(view, 0); return view; } @SuppressWarnings("unused") private Context getApplicationContext() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub return null; } private void setVolumeControlStream(int streamMusic) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub } @SuppressWarnings("unused") private Context getBaseContext() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub return null; } @SuppressWarnings("unused") private PagerAdapter findViewById(int myfivepanelpager) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub return null; } @Override public void destroyItem(View arg0, int arg1, Object arg2) { ((ViewPager) arg0).removeView((View) arg2); } @Override public boolean isViewFromObject(View arg0, Object arg1) { return arg0 == ((View) arg1); } @Override public Parcelable saveState() { return null; } public static Integer getItem(int position) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub return null; } } OnPageChangeListener; package com.example.pictures; import android.app.Activity; import android.content.Intent; import android.os.Bundle; import android.support.v4.view.ViewPager; import android.support.v4.view.ViewPager.OnPageChangeListener; import android.view.View; import android.widget.Button; import android.widget.Toast; public class Pictures extends Activity implements OnPageChangeListener{ SoundManager snd; int sound1,sound2,sound3; View view=null; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.picturespage); MyPagerAdapter adapter = new MyPagerAdapter(); ViewPager myPager = (ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.myfivepanelpager); myPager.setAdapter(adapter); myPager.setCurrentItem(0); myPager.setOnPageChangeListener(this); snd = new SoundManager(this); sound1 = snd.load(R.raw.sound1); sound2 = snd.load(R.raw.sound2); sound3 = snd.load(R.raw.sound3); } public void onPageScrollStateChanged(int arg0) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub } public void onPageScrolled(int arg0, float arg1, int arg2) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub } public void onPageSelected(int position) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub switch (position) { case 0: snd.play(sound1); break; case 1: snd.play(sound2); break; case 2: snd.play(sound3); break; case 3: Toast.makeText(this, "1", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); break; case 4: Toast.makeText(this, "2", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); break; case 5: Toast.makeText(this, "3", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); break; } } };

  • Saving to SharedPreferences from custom DialogPreference

    - by Ronnie
    I've currently got a preferences screen, and I've created a custom class that extends DialogPreference and is called from within my Preferences. My preferences data seems store/retrieve from SharedPreferences without an issue, but I'm trying to add 2 more sets of settings from the DialogPreference. Basically I have two issues that I have not been able to find. Every site I've seen gives me the same standard info to save/restore data and I'm still having problems. Firstly I'm trying to save a username and password to my SharedPreferences (visible in the last block of code) and if possibly I'd like to be able to do it in the onClick(). My preferences XML that calls my DialogPreference: <PreferenceScreen xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <PreferenceCategory> <com.rone.optusmon.AccDialog android:key="AccSettings" android:title="Account Settings" android:negativeButtonText="Cancel" android:positiveButtonText="Save" /> </PreferenceCategory> </PreferenceScreen> My Preference Activity Class: package com.rone.optusmon; import android.app.AlertDialog; import android.content.Context; import android.content.DialogInterface; import android.os.Bundle; import android.preference.Preference; import android.preference.Preference.OnPreferenceClickListener; import android.preference.PreferenceActivity; import android.view.KeyEvent; public class EditPreferences extends PreferenceActivity { Context context = this; @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); addPreferencesFromResource(R.xml.preferences); } } My Custom DialogPreference Class file: package com.rone.optusmon; import android.content.Context; import android.content.DialogInterface; import android.content.SharedPreferences; import android.preference.DialogPreference; import android.preference.PreferenceManager; import android.text.method.PasswordTransformationMethod; import android.util.AttributeSet; import android.view.View; import android.widget.CheckBox; import android.widget.CompoundButton; import android.widget.CompoundButton.OnCheckedChangeListener; import android.widget.EditText; import android.widget.LinearLayout; import android.widget.TextView; import android.widget.Toast; public class AccDialog extends DialogPreference implements DialogInterface.OnClickListener { private TextView mUsername, mPassword; private EditText mUserbox, mPassbox; CharSequence mPassboxdata, mUserboxdata; private CheckBox mShowchar; private Context mContext; private int mWhichButtonClicked; public AccDialog(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) { super(context, attrs); mContext = context; } @Override protected View onCreateDialogView() { @SuppressWarnings("unused") LinearLayout.LayoutParams params; LinearLayout layout = new LinearLayout(mContext); layout.setOrientation(LinearLayout.VERTICAL); layout.setPadding(10, 10, 10, 10); layout.setBackgroundColor(0xFF000000); mUsername = new TextView(mContext); mUsername.setText("Username:"); mUsername.setTextColor(0xFFFFFFFF); mUsername.setPadding(0, 8, 0, 3); mUserbox = new EditText(mContext); mUserbox.setSingleLine(true); mUserbox.setSelectAllOnFocus(true); mPassword = new TextView(mContext); mPassword.setText("Password:"); mPassword.setTextColor(0xFFFFFFFF); mPassbox = new EditText(mContext); mPassbox.setSingleLine(true); mPassbox.setSelectAllOnFocus(true); mShowchar = new CheckBox(mContext); mShowchar.setOnCheckedChangeListener(mShowchar_listener); mShowchar.setText("Show Characters"); mShowchar.setTextColor(0xFFFFFFFF); mShowchar.setChecked(false); if(!mShowchar.isChecked()) { mPassbox.setTransformationMethod(new PasswordTransformationMethod()); } layout.addView(mUsername); layout.addView(mUserbox); layout.addView(mPassword); layout.addView(mPassbox); layout.addView(mShowchar); return layout; // Access default SharedPreferences SharedPreferences settings = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this); } public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) { mWhichButtonClicked = which; // if statement to set save/cancel button roles if (mWhichButtonClicked == -1) { Toast.makeText(mContext, "Save was clicked", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); mUserboxdata = mUserbox.getText(); mPassboxdata = mPassbox.getText(); // Save user preferences SharedPreferences settings = getDefaultSharedPreferences(this); SharedPreferences.Editor editor = settings.edit(); editor.putString("usernamekey", (String) mUserboxdata); editor.putString("passwordkey", (String) mPassboxdata); } else { Toast.makeText(mContext, "Cancel was clicked", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } } } In my SharedPreferences settings = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this); line, Eclipse says "The method getDefaultSharedPreferences(AccDialog) is undefined for the type AccDialog". I've attempted to change the context to my preferences class, use a blank context and I've also tried naming my SharedPrefs and using "getSharedPreferences()" as well. I'm just not sure exactly what I'm doing here. As I'm quite new to Java/Android/coding in general, could you please be as detailed as possible with any help, eg. which of my files I need to write the code in and whereabouts in that file should I write it (i.e. onCreate(), onClick(), etc) Edit: I will need to the preferences to be Application-wide accessible, not activity-wide. Thanks

  • Android SDK emulator freezes on a Mac running OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

    - by Donald Burr
    I'm having trouble running the Android SDK on both of my Macs running OS X 10.6.2 Snow Leopard. This appears to be a 64 bit vs. 32 bit issue, as Snow Leopard now defaults to 64-bit everything, including the Java virtual machine. I found this webpage with instructions on how to get the Android tools to run in the 32-bit Java VM, and I am now able to run the Android GUI tool to download SDK files, create AVM's, etc. However, when I try the Hello World tutorial and get to the point where I run my application under the Android emulator, everything goes south. The emulator appears to start but it hangs (spinning beachball of death cursor) without displaying anything. (This only hangs the emulator; the rest of the system still works fine.) If I follow the exact same steps (minus the 32-bit java hack) in a Windows virtual machine, everything works fine. Googling didn't yield anything useful (except for the 32-bit java hack I spoke of earlier). This occurs on both my Mac Pro tower and 13" MacBook Pro. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Kindle Fire: PopupMenu$OrientationChangeListener leak

    - by dokkaebi
    I have a little popup menu that anchors on a button in the action bar. This works well on 3.0/3.1 Xoom and Galaxy tabs, and a 4.1 Nexus 7. However, on a 7" Fire HD (this one), I get an error about a leaked intent receiver when exiting the application. The error occurs only if the menu was not opened during that run. There is no mention of OrientationChangeListener in the one copy of the source I've found; I suspect Amazon has a different implementation. Questions: Has anyone encountered this? Does anyone know of a workaround or a fix? (Where) can I find Amazon's source code? Finally, (shudder) how important is it that I don't leak a receiver on application exit? Here is the menu xml: <menu xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">

</menu> This is where I register it: @Override public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) { super.onCreateOptionsMenu(menu); MenuInflater inflater = getMenuInflater(); inflater.inflate(R.menu.main_menu, menu); MenuItem login = menu.findItem(R.id.menu_login); Button button = (Button) login.getActionView().findViewById(R.id.login); button.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { profileMenu.show(); } }); // profileMenu is an instance field profileMenu = new PopupMenu(this, button); inflater.inflate(R.menu.profile_menu, profileMenu.getMenu()); profileMenu.setOnMenuItemClickListener(new PopupMenu.OnMenuItemClickListener() { public boolean onMenuItemClick(MenuItem item) { // there was code here, but I removed it all and the problem persists return false; } }); return true; } Here is the full stack trace: 10-21 20:55:28.461: E/ActivityThread(4526): Activity **.app.ListActivity has leaked IntentReceiver android.widget.PopupMenu$OrientationChangeListener@422d77e0 that was originally registered here. • Application stops on back button in new activity

    - by Bruno Almeida
    I have this application, that have a listView, and when I click in a item on listView, it opens a new activity. That works fine! But, if I open the new activity and than press the "back button" the application "Unfortunately, has stopped". Is there something I'm doing wrong? Here is my code: First activity: public class AndroidSQLite extends Activity { private SQLiteAdapter mySQLiteAdapter; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); ListView listContent = (ListView)findViewById(R.id.contentlist); mySQLiteAdapter = new SQLiteAdapter(this); mySQLiteAdapter.openToRead(); Cursor cursor = mySQLiteAdapter.queueAll(); startManagingCursor(cursor); String[] from = new String[]{SQLiteAdapter.KEY_NOME,SQLiteAdapter.KEY_ID}; int[] to = new int[]{R.id.text,R.id.id}; SimpleCursorAdapter cursorAdapter = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, R.layout.row, cursor, from, to); listContent.setAdapter(cursorAdapter); listContent.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() { public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) { Toast.makeText(getBaseContext(), id + "", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); Intent details = new Intent(getApplicationContext(),DetailsPassword.class); startActivity(details); } }); mySQLiteAdapter.close(); } } Second Activity: public class DetailsPassword extends Activity { @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); TextView text = new TextView(getApplicationContext()); text.setText("Text to show"); setContentView(text); } } // ===== EDITED ===== here is the Stack Track 10-30 08:55:05.744: E/AndroidRuntime(28046): FATAL EXCEPTION: main 10-30 08:55:05.744: E/AndroidRuntime(28046): java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to resume activity {com.example.sqliteexemple2/com.example.sqliteexemple2.AndroidSQLite}: java.lang.IllegalStateException: trying to requery an already closed cursor android.database.sqlite.SQLiteCursor@4180a370 10-30 08:55:05.744: E/AndroidRuntime(28046): at android.app.ActivityThread.performResumeActivity(ActivityThread.java:2701) 10-30 08:55:05.744: E/AndroidRuntime(28046): at android.app.ActivityThread.handleResumeActivity(ActivityThread.java:2729) 10-30 08:55:05.744: E/AndroidRuntime(28046): at android.app.ActivityThread$H.handleMessage(ActivityThread.java:1250) 10-30 08:55:05.744: E/AndroidRuntime(28046): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 10-30 08:55:05.744: E/AndroidRuntime(28046): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:137) 10-30 08:55:05.744: E/AndroidRuntime(28046): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4931) 10-30 08:55:05.744: E/AndroidRuntime(28046): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 10-30 08:55:05.744: E/AndroidRuntime(28046): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:511) 10-30 08:55:05.744: E/AndroidRuntime(28046): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:791) 10-30 08:55:05.744: E/AndroidRuntime(28046): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:558) 10-30 08:55:05.744: E/AndroidRuntime(28046): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) 10-30 08:55:05.744: E/AndroidRuntime(28046): Caused by: java.lang.IllegalStateException: trying to requery an already closed cursor android.database.sqlite.SQLiteCursor@4180a370 10-30 08:55:05.744: E/AndroidRuntime(28046): at android.app.Activity.performRestart(Activity.java:5051) 10-30 08:55:05.744: E/AndroidRuntime(28046): at android.app.Activity.performResume(Activity.java:5074) 10-30 08:55:05.744: E/AndroidRuntime(28046): at android.app.ActivityThread.performResumeActivity(ActivityThread.java:2691) 10-30 08:55:05.744: E/AndroidRuntime(28046): ... 10 more

  • Browser Specific Extensions of HttpClient

    - by imran_ku07
            Introduction: REpresentational State Transfer (REST) causing/leaving a great impact on service/API development because it offers a way to access a service without requiring any specific library by embracing HTTP and its features. ASP.NET Web API makes it very easy to quickly build RESTful HTTP services. These HTTP services can be consumed by a variety of clients including browsers, devices, machines, etc. With .NET Framework 4.5, we can use HttpClient class to consume/send/receive RESTful HTTP services(for .NET Framework 4.0, HttpClient class is shipped as part of ASP.NET Web API). The HttpClient class provides a bunch of helper methods(for example, DeleteAsync, PostAsync, GetStringAsync, etc.) to consume a HTTP service very easily. ASP.NET Web API added some more extension methods(for example, PutAsJsonAsync, PutAsXmlAsync, etc) into HttpClient class to further simplify the usage. In addition, HttpClient is also an ideal choice for writing integration test for a RESTful HTTP service. Since a browser is a main client of any RESTful API, it is also important to test the HTTP service on a variety of browsers. RESTful service embraces HTTP headers and different browsers send different HTTP headers. So, I have created a package that will add overloads(with an additional Browser parameter) for almost all the helper methods of HttpClient class. In this article, I will show you how to use this package. Description: Create/open your test project and install ImranB.SystemNetHttp.HttpClientExtensions NuGet package. Then, add this using statement on your class, using ImranB.SystemNetHttp; Then, you can start using any HttpClient helper method which include the additional Browser parameter. For example, var client = new HttpClient(myserver); var task = client.GetAsync("http://domain/myapi", Browser.Chrome); task.Wait(); var response = task.Result; . Here is the definition of Browser, public enum Browser { Firefox = 0, Chrome = 1, IE10 = 2, IE9 = 3, IE8 = 4, IE7 = 5, IE6 = 6, Safari = 7, Opera = 8, Maxthon = 9, } These extension methods will make it very easy to write browser specific integration test. It will also help HTTP service consumer to mimic the request sending behavior of a browser. This package source is available on github. So, you can grab the source and add some additional behavior on the top of these extensions. Summary: Testing a REST API is an important aspect of service development and today, testing with a browser is crucial. In this article, I showed how to write integration test that will mimic the browser request sending behavior. I also showed an example. Hopefully you will enjoy this article too.

  • Routing audio to Bluetooth Headset (non-A2DP) on Android

    - by Jayesh
    I have a non-A2DP single ear BT headset (Plantronics 510) and would like to use it with my Android HTC Magic to listen to low quality audio like podcasts/audio books. After much googling I found that only phone call audio can be routed to the non-A2DP BT headsets. (I would like to know if you have found a ready solution to route all kinds of audio to non-A2DP BT headsets) So I figured, somehow programmatically I can channel the audio to the stream that carries phone call audio. This way I will fool the phone to carry my mp3 audio to my BT headset. I wrote following simple code. import android.content.*; import android.app.Activity; import android.os.Bundle; import android.media.*; import java.io.*; import android.util.Log; public class BTAudioActivity extends Activity { private static final String TAG = "BTAudioActivity"; private MediaPlayer mPlayer = null; private AudioManager amanager = null; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); amanager = (AudioManager) getSystemService(Context.AUDIO_SERVICE); amanager.setBluetoothScoOn(true); amanager.setMode(AudioManager.MODE_IN_CALL); mPlayer = new MediaPlayer(); try { mPlayer.setDataSource(new FileInputStream( "/sdcard/sample.mp3").getFD()); mPlayer.setAudioStreamType(AudioManager.STREAM_VOICE_CALL); mPlayer.prepare(); mPlayer.start(); } catch(Exception e) { Log.e(TAG, e.toString()); } } @Override public void onDestroy() { mPlayer.stop(); amanager.setMode(AudioManager.MODE_NORMAL); amanager.setBluetoothScoOn(false); super.onDestroy(); } } As you can see I tried combinations of various methods that I thought will fool the phone to believe my audio is a phone call: Using MediaPlayer's setAudioStreamType(STREAM_VOICE_CALL) using AudioManager's setBluetoothScoOn(true) using AudioManager's setMode(MODE_IN_CALL) But none of the above worked. If I remove the AudioManager calls in the above code, the audio plays from speaker and if I replace them as shown above then the audio stops coming from speakers, but it doesn't come through the BT headset. So this might be a partial success. I have checked that the BT headset works alright with phone calls. There must be a reason for Android not supporting this. But I can't let go of the feeling that it is not possible to programmatically reroute the audio. Any ideas? P.S. above code needs following permission <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS"/>

  • ImageView bounds are larger than expected in android layout

    - by Hamy
    Hey all, This is a layout that I have defined in an app. As you can see, I would like the TextView "@details/image_time_counter" to be aligned with the bottom right of the image. Unfortunately, this is currently what shows - app - hierarchy viewer all - HV part 2. HierarchyViewer reports that the ImageView has bounds much bigger than what I am expecting. Can anyone explain these bounds, or just tell me how to make the bounds be the same as the image size? Thanks, Hamy <RelativeLayout android:id="@+id/RelativeLayout01" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> </RelativeLayout>

The application have a good internet connection and there is no problem reaching the app server-side api. I see in analytics that lots of startups and click-events the past few days are lost, even I know the traffic is normal since i can see statistics from the the server api. In the analytics reports I see a day by day under-reporting. So the problems seems to be spreading/growing to all the devices using this application. Im wondering why google does not answer this in their mail-groups - several people have complained about this...well, well... I found this thread relevant: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/682560/java-net-socketexception-broken-pipe But, I'm still not sure if there is anything I can do to fix it or not. If there is nothing I can do to fix it, I guess its not my fault that it got broken. But i got a feeling it is, since the problem got dramatically worse on the last deploy to Android market. Anyone else with experience on Google Analytics for android ?

  • Android compatibility with Restlet/JSON/Jackson

    - by Cookie
    Hi there, I'm currently working on a webservice-client for Android. I'm using a Java client library which provides an abstraction for interaction with the service. The client library works on normal machines. However, when I use the classes in my Android project, some calls don't return a result on Android, the background-service stops working at the first of those commands. Wireshark shows a tcp exchange, the server gets the requests. There is no exceptions or anything. Something in the serialization/deserialization semms not to work. I'm using the newest version of Jackson libraries (1.5.3) and the restlet jar in the android edition. Is there any known problems with Jackson and Android? Which code and libraries are compatible with Android? Thanks in advance.

  • IE8 browser mode vs document mode

    - by mkoryak
    Can someone please explain the difference between IE8 browser mode and document mode in simple terms? What causes the browser mode to change? What causes the document mode to change? If a user changes the mode(s) via developer tools, does the change remain even if the page is refreshed? I am asking this because we are doing some IE8 testing here, and different people have different combinations of the modes, and i want to try to figure out how this is happening.

  • Android: Image displayed at Webview from Url with high quality loss

    - by Merlino
    I want to display an image from an url with an Webview at Android. With Android phones with Version 1.5 and 1.6 there is no problem. but the same pic and the same code on an AndroidPhone with Version 2.0 and the pic is totaly pixelated. Like Android is resizing the image first to a smaller one and then resizing it back to "normal" size. Unfortunately its important to display the pic without any quality loss. I tried to integrate it in the sourcefolder to show it as an normal image, but at Android 2.0 i get an exception because the image is to big. (At Android 1.6 there is no problem) Any ideas how i can display the image without quality loss with Android 2.0 ?

  • How to clear browser's cache from server side?

    - by Dunith Dhanushka
    I have to create a web application that deals with user's sensitive information. I need to immediately clear the browser's cache after user logs out since cached data would be vulnerable. Client's browser should be enforced to clear the Cache from server side. Also all cache policies must be exposed to the client from the server side. Is there any solution to this problem?

  • jquery animate browser window

    - by duckofrubber
    Hi, Is there a way to animate a browser window using jquery. Right now I'm essentially using this: $(window).animate({ left: '+=50' }, 5000}); The reason why it isn't working is probably obvious, although not for me. I eventually need to loop an animate effect so that the browser will move back and forth dynamically. Thanks.

  • What call from the Android Development Tools API should I use to poll project target loading?

    - by Ricardo Gladwell
    I'm writing my own eclipse plug-in that integrates with the Eclipse Android Development Tools (ADT). However, I'm getting a CoreException ("Project target not loaded yet.") thrown when I attempt to call IProject.build on an Android project as part of a unit test: IProject project = importProject(...); project.build(IncrementalProjectBuilder.FULL_BUILD, monitor); Should I be waiting for the project target to load before calling the above? If so, what call should I use to poll the project target loading status?

  • Change Browser settings by script

    - by jAndy
    Hi Folks, Afaik, you can change/manipulate browser settings in Mozilla/Netscape browsers. For Instance "netscape.security.PrivilegeManager.enablePrivilege('someprivilege');" Of course the user gets informed about that and needs to verify the action. My question is, do other browser have similar functionality? IE, Safari/Chrome ? Kind Regards --Andy
