• WCF Mono - BasicHttpBinding with SSL

  I'm trying to port an existing WCF client application to run on Linux under Mono. Right now I'm testing everything out, figuring out what works on Mono and what doesn't. The client makes a super simple call over basicHttpBinding. It works great, until I enable SSL (that is, specify BasicHttpSecurityMode.Transport in the binding). Running on .NET in Windows, it works great Running on Mono on Ubuntu 9.10 / Mono 2.6 I get the following error: Exception in async operation: System.Net.WebException: Error getting response stream (Write: The authentication or decryption has failed.): SendFailure --- System.IO.IOException: The authentication or decryption has failed. --- Mono.Security.Protocol.Tls.TlsException: Invalid certificate received from server. Error code: 0xffffffff800b010a I've read the Mono security FAQ here: http://www.mono-project.com/FAQ:_Security; however the SSL certificate on the server is from a root CA (a purchased certificate) - issued by Equifax Secure Certificate Authority. I ran the TlsTest tool on the Ubuntu install against the .svc URL and there are no problems/errors. Also I can hit the service fine in Firefox (no security warnings). What am I missing? • Windows Workflow Foundation - Application-Integrated Debugging

  I've got a typical n-tier app that has a heavy workflow component to it, so I'm interested in using WWF. There's a server-side piece that runs as a Windows Service, and there's the client-side piece written in Silverlight. To have a really great, seamlessly integrated experience for my users, what I want is to incorporate both a workflow designer and a workflow debugger into the application. Not Visual Studio, but something tightly integrated right into the app itself. Using the Silverlight client, the user (probably more of a power user) can design workflows. But not only that, they can open a debugger from within the Silverlight client, set breakpoints (which are really remote breakpoints back to the Windows Service), catch in-process workflows, and step through them. Wouldn't that be great? I think I have some idea how I might go about incorporating an integrated designer (use a Silverlight diagramming component, save the diagram to .XAML, parse the .XAML to re-create the diagram, etc., etc.) but how on Earth would I do the debugger? I have no idea how I would do that part. Is there some kind of debugging support engineered into WWF?

  Hi Everyone, I just wanna create a MS plugin to hook SpringBoard. I'm following "gojohnnyboi" tutorial from here "http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103558". To create a dylib on XCode, I'm following "SkylarEC" tutorial. I mix these two great tutorials and finally got succeed by getting a dylib. But when I placed the dylib in the /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries/ nothing is happened (no alert was shown). By evaluating, I found that, this dylib doesn't have any starting point when it was loaded into the memory. So I mentioned a starting point by declaring a constructor in the .mm file like, __ attribute__((constructor)) static void init() { Class _$SBAppIcon = objc_getClass("SBApplicationIcon"); MSHookMessage($SBAppIcon, @selector(launch), (IMP) &_$ExampleHook_AppIcon_Launch, "_OriginalMethodPrefix"); } But when I'm trying to compile this, I'm getting an error like, Undefined symbols: "_MSHookMessage", referenced from: init() in ExampleHook.o ld: symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status. Does anyone has idea how to solve this? It would be great and more helpful if anyone share the detailed tutorial/instructions to create a dylib on XCode. P.S I placed all the libsubstrate.dylib and substrate.h files in the corresponding location. And the locations are, libsubstrate.dylib : /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/usr/lib/ substrate.h : /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS3.0.sdk/usr/include and my base SDK is 3.0.

• PDF files created on iPad dont display correctly on Windows

  My iPhone app creates PDF files (in Arial font). The plain iPhone 3.1.x version works great (other than the known issue that PDFs created on the iPhone cant be viewed correctly in Google Docs or the BlackBerry). As I am updating my project for OS 3.2 and the iPad, it works just the same, and the PDFs still look great on the iPhone, iPad and MacOS (Preview app). But now on Windows (Vista), Acrobat 9.3.1 says "Cannot extract the embedded font 'XYZABC+ArialMT'. Some characters may not display or print correctly". And in fact Acrobat then uses some generic font instead of Arial (or whatever other font I try). Quartz 3.2 seems to generate these "random" embedded font names each time it creates a PDF (the XYZABC changes around each time). I can't tell whether the problem is just the somewhat strange "temporary" embedded font name with the plus sign, or the way Quartz 3.2 is embedding fonts. I have tried my existing code (using CGPDFContext* funtions), and also the newly supported UIGraphics* functions, with the same results. Has anyone else tried creating PDFs on the iPad yet and gotten them to display correctly on Windows?

  Hi. I had an old (but great) app using NHibernate 1.0.2. Worked like a charm. But then I decided to upgrade to NHibernate 2.1.2. Had to change some stuff, worked great also. Problem is, I founded out that new version works in some machines and do not work in others. What the heck? Thinking a while, I discovered that it only works in pcs with SQL 2000 installed!! previous version used to works everywhere.... • how could installations/configurations be easier in linux?

  although you can do anything in linux it tends to require a lot of tweaking in config files and reading a lot of manuals/tutorials before you can have it running in your way. i know that it gets a lot easier by time, and the apt-get installations with ubuntu/debian is heading the right way. but how can linux be more userfriendly for us in the future? i thought that if more is automated like an IDE environment, eg. typing svn will give us all the commands and description about each command when you move between commands with your keyboard. that would be great. but that's just one example. another is the navigation in the terminal between folders. now you have to type a lot just to jump from/to different folders. would be great with some more automatization here too. i know that these extra features will slow down the server, but its 2010 now, and these features are not that heavy for the cpu, but makes it more userfriendly and encourage maintainance of a server, not frighten u off. what do you think about this? should/could we have more user friendly linux environment in servers, something that has annoyed you a lot? a lot of things are done in the unix way, but maybe we should reinvent the wheel in some areas, cause apparently, its so...repeatingly today and difficult to do easy tasks. it should be easier i think..

• multi thread apps crashes in release mode

  Hello, I'm using Visual Studio 2008 (programming in c). I've a weird problem I worte a program that has 2 threads that runs simultaneously, a recording thread (using audio card to record into memory) and a translation thread (using a speech engine to recognize the words). when I run my program in debug mode (aka setting a breakpoint in the code) it runs great, however when I run in debug mode or release mode (outside the visual studio enviroment) it crashes and give me the following exception: "Unhandled exception at 0x7c911129 in LowLevel.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x014c7245." • Webservices on iPhone - wsdl2objc - Sample Code?

  I have recently downloaded the most recent build of this awesome tool WSDL2OBJC from google code here: http://code.google.com/p/wsdl2objc/ After a bit of tweaking and downloading the latest version of the trunk from the svn repo I got a version that created the code for a WSDL I am using and compiles great and actually installs on my phone! However, I'm not doing anything with it yet, because I am not really sure how to. There is very little in the way of sample code on the site, and there is a sample file in the project if you download it, but again it is very complicated and there are no real bits of documentation. Has anyone managed to successfully use this stuff? It seems SOOO powerful and useful but from a look around the Internet, no one knows how to use it. We (all) would love someone who has figured it out to post a simple project or detailed walk-through of implementing this so we can put the code that lots of people have worked hard on to good use. If anyone has found a blog entry or has this information it would be great to see! I am totally stuck... with no errors. I would love to know how to use this now that it's all compiled successfully!

I tend to find session videos from conferences or good podcast videos only by accident, so maybe someone has a handy list of links to great ressources. I already know all the WWDC stuff and the stuff from stanford, but a lot of universities around the world publish session videos as well in local languages. Also, there are like thousands of conferences around the world with great session videos. This list should compensate for all those who can't afford beeing at WWDC. • Using HAML with custom filters

  Hi everybody. I feel quite excited about HAML and CoffeeScript and am working on tutorial showing how to use them in non-Rails environment. So, haml has easy to use command-line utility haml input.haml output.html. And, what is great, there exist a project (one of many forks: https://github.com/aussiegeek/coffee-haml-filter) aimed at providing custom filter that converts CoffeeScript into JS inside of HAML files. Unfortunately (or am I missing something?) haml doesn't allow specifying custom filters on the command line or with some configuration file. I (not being a Ruby fan or even knowing it enough) managed to solve it (based on some clever suggestion somewhere on SO) with this helper script: haml.rb require 'rubygems' require 'active_support/core_ext/object/blank' require 'haml' require 'haml/filters/coffee' template = ARGV.length > 0 ? • Advice on optimzing speed for a Stored Procedure that uses Views

  Based on a previous question and with a lot of help from Damir Sudarevic (thanks) I have the following sql code which works great but is very slow. Can anyone suggest how I can speed this up and optimise for speed. I am now using SQL Server Express 2008 (not 2005 as per my original question). What this code does is retrieves parameters and their associated values from several tables and rotates the table in a form that can be easily compared. Its great for one of two rows of data but now I am testing with 100 rows and to run GetJobParameters takes over 7 minutes to complete?   I've already worked out this solution for myself with PHP, but I'm curious how it could be done differently - better even. The two languages I'm primarily interested in are PHP and Javascript, but I'd be interested in seeing how quickly this could be done in any other major language today as well (mostly C#, Java, etc). Return only words with an occurrence greater than X Return only words with a length greater than Y Ignore common terms like "and, is, the, etc" Feel free to strip punctuation prior to processing (ie. "John's" becomes "John") Return results in a collection/array Extra Credit Keep Quoted Statements together, (ie. "They were 'too good to be true' apparently")Where 'too good to be true' would be the actual statement Extra-Extra Credit Can your script determine words that should be kept together based upon their frequency of being found together?   Ok, what i'm trying to do here is to make the exact code found here here ordered list and make it so that it doesn't just not work when i try to add additional elements into the list. Also i'm planning on using the more effecient one linked to at the end but i cannot put it here so you'll have to find that link on your own sadly. Since i'm trying to use this for a knowledge base page i want to allow people to be able to search through the items on the page and go to the proper part(ie loading it into the viewing area) but it's not letting me even include a simple anchor in there. if there is anyway to do something similar or to edit it so that it'll include everything within the <li> that'd be great. I don't know if anyone out there has done something like this before, but if they have and wouldn't mind sharing the code with me i'd be extremely happy. If no one has but does know how to make it include everything within the <li> including text also a great thing to have. I imagine that i won't be the only person out there in this world with my exact query.

  Hi All Im kind of new in the whole papervision scene. For a school assignment I'm making a panorama version of my own room using a cube with 6 pictures in it. It created the panorama, it works great. But now I want to add clickable objects in it. One of the requirements is that my code is OOP focused. So that's what I am trying right now. Currently I got two classes - Main.as (Here i make the panorama cube as the room) - photoWall.as (Here I want to create my first clickable object) Now my problem is: I want to addChild a clickable object from photoWall.as to my panorama room. But he doesn't show it? I think it has something to do with the scenes. I use a new scene in Main.as and in photoWall.as. • Autodetect Presence of CSV Headers in a File

  Short question: How do I automatically detect whether a CSV file has headers in the first row? Details: I've written a small CSV parsing engine that places the data into an object that I can access as (approximately) an in-memory database. The original code was written to parse third-party CSV with a predictable format, but I'd like to be able to use this code more generally. I'm trying to figure out a reliable way to automatically detect the presence of CSV headers, so the script can decide whether to use the first row of the CSV file as keys / column names or start parsing data immediately. Since all I need is a boolean test, I could easily specify an argument after inspecting the CSV file myself, but I'd rather not have to (go go automation). I imagine I'd have to parse the first 3 to ? rows of the CSV file and look for a pattern of some sort to compare against the headers. I'm having nightmares of three particularly bad cases in which: The headers include numeric data for some reason The first few rows (or large portions of the CSV) are null There headers and data look too similar to tell them apart If I can get a "best guess" and have the parser fail with an error or spit out a warning if it can't decide, that's OK. If this is something that's going to be tremendously expensive in terms of time or computation (and take more time than it's supposed to save me) I'll happily scrap the idea and go back to working on "important things". I'm working with PHP, but this strikes me as more of an algorithmic / computational question than something that's implementation-specific. If there's a simple algorithm I can use, great. If you can point me to some relevant theory / discussion, that'd be great, too. If there's a giant library that does natural language processing or 300 different kinds of parsing, I'm not interested.

It needs to be extremely fast (the code above freezes the game, which has only skeleton code right now).. Any suggestions. Note: Any new code would be great (WireFrame/Fill are both fine). This is the code I'm currently using: $('video.normal').bind('ended', function(){ $(this).fadeOut().queue(function(){ $(this).siblings('.post-video').fadeIn(); $(this).dequeue(); }); }); Which basically fades the video out when it's completed and brings a poster frame of the video (or similar image) back into view. Well, the scope of the project has changed and now the client is asking for true full screen video and different size videos to be delivered based on user connection speed, something that's a little over my head and a lot over budget. So I've been researching and a Vimeo Plus player seems like a great alternative for visitors using a desktop browser (HD embeds, true full screen, and more). Thing is, I need that above code to continue working in some capacity or another, so does the embedded Vimeo player offer a similar callback that I can utilize? Or am I SOL here? Thanks in advance!

My question is similar to a degree but with a different desired goal: On demand development instances. I have come up with a somewhat questionable solution to host arbitrary directories in my user account for the purpose of development testing. I am not interested in custom vhosts but looking to emulate the behaviour I get when using paster or mongrel for Python & Ruby respectively. Ubuntu 9.10 TOXIC@~/ APACHE_RUN_USER=$USER APACHE_RUN_GROUP=www-data apache2 -d ~/Desktop/ -c "Listen 2990" Is there a better solution, could I do something similar with nginix or lighttpd? Note: The above won't work correctly for stock environments without a copied & altered httpd.conf. Update: The ideal goal is to mimic Paster, Webbrick, and Mongrel for rapid local development hosting. For those light weight servers, it takes less then a minute to get a working instance running ( not factoring any DB support ). Apache2 vhost is great but I've been using Apache2 for over ten years and it would be some sort of abomination hack to setup a new entry in /etc/hosts unless you have your own DNS, in which case a wildcard subdomain setup would probably work great. EXCEPT one more problem, it's pretty easy for me to know what is being hosted ( ex. by paster or mongeral ) just doing a sudo netstat -tulpn while there would be a good possibility of confusion in figure out which vhost is what.

• How to create a high quality icon for my Windows application?

  If you are running Windows with a higher DPI setting you will notice that most application icons on the desktop look terrible. Even high profile application icons such as Google Chrome look terrible while for example Firefox, Skype and MS Office icons look sharp: (example) I suspect that most icons look blurry because a lower resolution icon is scaled up rather than using a higher resolution icon. I want to give my application a high quality icon and can't seem to convince Windows to use the higher resolution icon. I have created a multi-resolution icon with the free icon editor IcoFX. The icon is provided in 16x16, 24x24, 32x32,48x48, 128x128 and 256x256 (!) (all in 32 bit including alpha channel) yet Windows seems to use the 128x128 version of the icon on the desktop and scale it up which looks terrible. (I am using Windows 7 - 64 bit - the icon is placed by means of setting up a shortcut in the msi (created via Visual Studio 2008 Setup Project) and pointing it to the .ico file that contains the multi-resolution icon) I have tried removing the 128x128 icon but to no avail. Interestingly in Windows Explorer the icon looks great even when using the Extra Large Icon setting. How can I create a high quality desktop icon that looks great on higher DPI settings on Windows?

  I want to code a function to get a list of Entry objects whose date field is between a beginPeriod and endPeriod I post below a code snippet which works with a HACK. I have to substract a day from the begin period date. It seems the condition great or equal does not work. • Drupal theme preprocess function - primary links

  I recently wrote a theme function to add a class to my primary links that works great. I then wrote some css classes to style these links with custom background images. Worked out great. Now comes the problem, the link text for the primary links still is displayed. Normally this isn't a problem as I would just wrap the in a with a custom "hide" class. For example: <span class="hide"><a href="#">Link Text</a></span> So my question is how can I loop through the primary links and wrap the text w/ a <span> like my example? • Updating extra attributes in a has_many, :through relationship using Rails

  I've managed to set up a many-to-many relationship between the following models Characters Skills PlayerSkills PlayerSkills, right now, has an attribute that Skills don't normally have: a level. The models look something like this (edited for conciseness): class PlayerSkill < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :character belongs_to :skill end class Skill < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :player_skills has_many :characters, :through => :player_skills attr_accessible :name, :description end class Character < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user has_many :player_skills has_many :skills, :through => :player_skills end So nothing too fancy in the models... The controller is also very basic at this point... it's pretty much a stock update action. The form I'm looking to modify is characters#edit. Right now it renders a series of checkboxes which add/remove skills from the characters. This is great, but the whole point of using has_many :through was to track a "level" as well. Here is what I have so far: - form_for @character do |f| = f.error_messages %p = f.label :name %br = f.text_field :name %p = f.label :race %br = f.text_field :race %p = f.label :char_class %br = f.text_field :char_class %p - @skills.each do |skill| = check_box_tag "character[skill_ids][]", skill.id, @character.skills.include?(skill) =h skill.name %br %p = f.submit After it renders "skill.name", I need it to print a text_field that updates player_skill. The problem, of course, is that player_skill may or may not exist! (Depending on if the box was already ticked when you loaded the form!) From everything I've read, has_many :through is great because it allows you to treat the relationship itself as an entity... but I'm completely at a loss as to how to handle the entity in this form. As always, thanks in advance for any and all help you can give me!
