  • Log Shipping breaking daily on SQL Server 2005

    I am facing a somewhat serious problem with Log Shipping on SQL Server 2005 and I am having trouble to correct it, so I will try some help from SF's experts. I have a Windows 2003 Server (PROD) that ships transactional log backups to another two servers: STAND1: Windows 2003 Server with SQL Server 2005. STAND2: Windows 2008 R2 Server with SQL Server 2005. The problem is that Log Shipping to STAND2 is breaking for ~ 90 minutes some times of the day and returning back without intervention. The breaking occur at times when the backup file is larger (after reindexing, etc). I can see the message below logged on the COPY job: *** Error: The specified network name is no longer available The copy agent was breaking dozens times a day only to STAND2 server, and after the changes below "only" breaks ~ two times a day: The frequency of the backup job was changed from 5 minutes to 10 minutes. Instead of backing up the 4 databases to the same folder, the log backups are now saved on separated folders for each database. The backup job doesn't run 24hs now, and only for 14 hours a day, when people are working on the database. I configured the SQL Server instances on the three servers to limit the memory, leaving more memory to the OS. Now I don't know what to do. Any help will be much appreciated! Thanks!

  • Best Practices for adding Exchange Archive to current 3 server setup

    I'm looking to add an Archive Database (which I know is just a Mailbox Database) to our current Exchange 2010 environment. I have done this in the past at a previous job, but we had a simpler setup than at this current job. I've been trying to find some best practices to make sure it's setup in an ideal way, but so far not finding the details I would prefer. Hoping someone on here can give me a few pointers. Currently we have a 3 server setup, Server1, Server2 and Server3. Three databases of course, DB1, DB2 and DB3. We have a DAG setup between them. Server1 has DB1 and DB3 on it, DB1 is not active, DB3 is active. Server2 has DB1 and DB2 on it, both are active. Server3 has DB2 and DB3 on it, both are not active. All three servers are virtual (VMware). Each one is setup identical to the other as follows: C:\ 60GB - OS E:\ 600GB - DB (currently only 90GB used, pointing to Datastore just for Server2) F:\ 200GB - Log (2GB used, pointing to same Datastore as above) G:\ 200GB - Restore (0 used, pointing to same Datastore as above) The drives are all set to Thin Provisioning, and it looks as though I have 600GB of available space. They have not been on Exchange that long and only have about 70GB worth of PSTs to import back in that will be going to the Archive Database, plus anything older than 2 years from their current inbox that will be moved into there. I was considering placing the Archive DB on the E:\ drive of Server3 (only) like the current DB, but wasn't sure if that was acceptable. I don't plan on setting the Archive DB up with the DAG, just plan on having it as a single repository for older emails and manually back it up every now and then. If anyone has any suggestions on this I would appreciate it the input. I've done it on a slightly smaller scale before and it worked well, but like to think it through before pulling the trigger, especially at a new job. :) Thanks again!

  • Full-text search locks up database - error 0x8001010e

    Hi We have a full-text catalog that is populated via a job every 15 minutes like so: ALTER FULLTEXT INDEX ON [dbo].[WorkItemLongTexts] START INCREMENTAL POPULATION We have encountered a problem where the database containing this catalog locks up. There are a couple of scenarios, we either see the job execute and the process hang with with a wait type of UNKNOWN TOKEN, or we see another process hang with a wait type of MSSEARCH. Once this happens the job continues to run but informs us that the request to start a full-text index population is ignored because a population is currently active. Looking in the full text log files we see the following error each time these problems occur: 2010-04-21 08:15:00.76 spid21s The full-text catalog health monitor reported a failure for full-text catalog "XXXFullTextCatalog" (5) in database "YYY" (14). Reason code: 0. Error: 0x8001010e(The application called an interface that was marshalled for a different thread.). The system will restart any in-progress population from the previous checkpoint. If this message occurs frequently, consult SQL Server Books Online for troubleshooting assistance. This is an informational message only. No user action is required."'' The only solution is to restart the SQL Server service and then the full text service. This is now occuring on a daily basis now so any help would be appreciated.

  • Replacement for public folder workflow, I'm confused as to how sharepoint does it.

    For years Microsoft has been slowly phasing out public folders, perhaps exchange 2010 really is the LAST TIME they'll be shipped... I've heard sharepoint is the replacement, but I don't understand full, can someone give me an idea of how to replace this workflow? In our office, we have projects, they have a project number, ie 10353. Each job folder has a public folder, organized in a hierachy like Projects Year Folder Subfolders The main subfolder we use is for genera correspondence. When an email is received that relates to a project, it is dragged and dropped (or right click move to) a public folder. Adding public folder favourites for each user helps this. When an email is sent, we have a custom email form, which is the default email form, but with a project number field next to the subject line. When you enter the job number in there, it carbon copies our filing system in, which reads the job number and puts the email in the public folder for you. if you need to refer to emails, you go to public folder and find them there. This isn't the best with large jobs, but it works ok. Now, I have limited experience with sharepoint (well, WSS), we've used it to do some neat discussion boards/polls etc as an intranet site, but I haven't seen much of its integration with outlook. The great thing about our solution is how tightly it integrates with outlook which is exactly where the emails are. If you want to forward an old email, you go to public folder and forward it, simple. Any solution that replaces it should be at least as easy as this. Improvements we would like would be to have better searching of emails, better support in exchange (ie future version) and also, custom forms in outlook are being phased out (the VBA kind), so avoiding these would be good. Does sharepoint do this? or what solutions do this kind of thing?

  • Implications of Multiple JobTracker nodes in a Hadoop cluster?

    I get the impression that one can, potentially, have multiple JobTracker nodes configured to share the same set of MR (TaskTracker) nodes. I know that, conventionally, all the nodes in a Hadoop cluster should have the same set of configuration files (conventionally under /etc/hadoop/conf/ --- at least for the Cloudera Distribution of Hadoop (CDH). Can we define multiple Job Trackers in mapred-site.xml? Something like: <configuration> <property> <name>mapred.job.tracker</name> <value>jt01.mydomain.not:8021</value> </property> <property> <name>mapred.job.tracker</name> <value>jt02.mydomain.not:8021</value> </property> ... </configuration> Or is there some other allowed syntax for this? What are the implications of doing this. Does each JobTracker get information about the load on each TaskTracker node. In other words can the two JobTracker co-ordinated their scheduling across the TT nodes only based on the gossip information from the TTs or would they need to talk to one another? Is this documented anywhere?

  • Need help trying to allow my remote PowerShell script to run on my Windows 2008 r2 Server

    I've got a Windows 2008 r2 server with Sql Server 2008 r2 installed. I've got a Sql Server Agent which tries to run a Powershell job, but fails :- Message Executed as user: FooServer\SqlServerUser. A job step received an error at line 1 in a PowerShell script. The corresponding line is '& '\\polanski\Backups\Database\7ZipFooDatabases.ps1'' Correct the script and reschedule the job. The error information returned by PowerShell is: 'File \\polanski\Backups\Database\7ZipFooDatabases.ps1 cannot be loaded. The file \\polanski\Backups\Database\7ZipFooDatabases.ps1 is not digitally signed. The script will not execute on the system. Please see "get-help about_signing" for more details.. '. Process Exit Code -1. The step failed. Ok. So i run Powershell on that server then set the execution policy to unrestricted. To check .. PS C:\Users\theUser> Get-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted PS C:\Users\theUser> Kewl :) but it still doesn't work :( Ok ... what happens when i try to run the powershell from the command line.... PS C:\Users\justin.adler . '\polanski\Backups\Database\7ZipMotorshoutDatabases.ps1' Security Warning Run only scripts that you trust.   • What's the safest way to kick off a root-level process via cgi on an Apache server?

    The problem: I have a script that runs periodically via a cron job as root, but I want to give people a way to kick it off asynchronously too, via a webpage. (The script will be written to ensure it doesn't run overlapping instances or such.) I don't need the users to log in or have an account, they simply click a button and if the script is ready to be run it'll run. The users may select arguments for the script (heavily filtered as inputs) but for simplicity we'll say they just have the button to choose to press. As a simple test, I've created a Python script in cgi-bin. chown-ing it to root:root and then applying "chmod ug+" to it didn't have the desired results: it still thinks it has the effective group of the web server account... from what I can tell this isn't allowed. I read that wrapping it with a compiled cgi program would do the job, so I created a C wrapper that calls my script (its permissions restored to normal) and gave the executable the root permissions and setuid bit. That worked... the script ran as if root ran it. My main question is, is this normal (the need for the binary wrapper to get the job done) and is this the secure way to do this? It's not world-facing but still, I'd like to learn best practices. More broadly, I often wonder why a compiled binary is more "trusted" than a script in practice? I'd think you'd trust a file that was human-readable over a cryptic binaryy. If an attacker can edit a file then you're already in trouble, more so if it's one you can't easily examine. In short, I'd expect it to be the other way 'round on that basis. Your thoughts?

  • In Email, Image (img) Source (src) Tags are rewritten as relative links. How to fix?

    I'm working on sending out an html based email, and every time it sends the image src tags and some of the anchor href tags are modified to be relative url's. Update 2: This is happening between when the body of the email is generated and sent and when it arrives in my inbox. Update: I am using Postfix on a LAMPP server. In addition, I am using Zend_Mail to send the emails out. For example, I have a link: src="http://www.furnituretrainingcompany.com/images/email/highpoint_2009_04/header.jpg" And it gets rewritten as: src="../../../../images/email/highpoint_2009_04/header.jpg" What can cause this to occur and how is it corrected?   • Are there free realtime financial data feeds since the demise of OpenQuant?

    Now that the oligopole of market data providers successfully killed OpenQuant, does any alternative to proprietary and expensive subscriptions for realtime market data subsist? Ideally I would like to be able to monitor tick by tick securities from the NYSE, NASDAQ and AMEX (about 6000 symbols). Most vendors put a limit of 500 symbols watchable at the same time, this is unacceptable to me, even if one can imagine a rotation among the 500 symbols ie. making windows of 5 sec. of effective observation out of each minute for every symbol. Currently I'm doing this by a Java thread pool calling Google Finance, but this is unsatisfactory for several reasons, one being that Google doesn't return the volume traded.     I am using will_paginate to successfully page through records. I am also using AJAX live search via jQuery to update my results div. No problem so far. The issue I have is when trying to paginate through those live search results. I simply get "Page is loading..." with no div update.   • Why GPRS modem provides embedded TCP/IP stack

    My colleague and I are mining the GPRS MODEM market for a module suitable for use with embedded Linux. During the market scan, we see that several vendors highlight that their MODEMs include an embedded TCP/IP stack. This makes me wonder: when we are using embedded Linux which already contains a TCP/IP stack and connects using PPP, will it make use of the stack included in the GPRS MODEM at all? My current assumption is that the stack is included for use with tiny microcontroller OS that do not supply their own stack. Also some of the MODEMs allow for running small applications IN the MODEM baseband processor which could explain the embedded stack... So: is the TCP/IP stack supplied by the GPRS MODEM superfluous when using it with an HL OS or did I overlook something?

This all works well with one copy of the markup but if I duplicate it (obvisouly changing the ID of the uppermost div.node and use jQuery.closest('div.node') for the upper of the div.node's it will return the element below it not the element above it (which is the right one). I've tried using parents() but that also has it's caveats.     I wrote an app targeting a particular clientele. A software company with a reputation among my target audience is willing to negotiate a price to either license or buy it. As a newcomer to the app store, I am not sure that I will successfully market it myself. What would be appropriate terms of a sale or license and what about pricing? I am looking for answers that draw from personal experience with software, although not necessarily apps.     Hi, I know there are things out there to help to optimize queries, ect... but is there anything else, something like a full package that can scan your database and highlight all the performance issues, naming conventions, tables not properly normalized, etc? I know this is the job of a DBA and if the DBA is good, he shouldn't need a tool like that, but sometimes you start a new job, you get in charge of an existing database and the DB is a mess, so you don't know where to start...     We have a application (written in c#) to store live stock market price in the database (SQL Server 2005). It insert about 1 Million record in a single day. Now we are adding some more segment of market into it and the no of records would be double (2 Millions/day). Currently the average record insertion per second is about 50, maximum is 450 and minimum is 0. To check certain conditions i have used service broker (asynchronous trigger) on my price table. It is running fine at this time(about 35% CPU utilization). Now i am planning to create a in memory dataset of current stock price. we would like to do some simple calculations. I want to know different views of members on this. Please provide your way of dealing with such situation.

    Simple question, I think. I have org.springframework.scheduling.quartz.CronTriggerBean triggering one job once a day. Because this method can last a long time (over 24 hours), will the next day at the same time a new job be executed if the last one is not ended yet? If yes - is it possible to turn off executing new jobs until the last one is finished? My method is trans-coding videos and some days there a lot of videos and could last long.
