  • Reseting Macbook Pro keyboard and trackpad's power usage on Windows?

    I recently installed a utitlity for Windows (ASUS Ai Charger) which modifies the USB ports on the computer to output more power (for charging iPads, etc). The problem is, I believe it is also giving more power to my keyboard and trackpad. And now, neither devices are working at all, yet they work on Mac OS X. So does anyone know the amount of power MacBook Pro (2007) keyboards and trackpads use, and how I can set these settings in Windows 7?

  • Is it possible to run several virtual machines each with independent mouse+keyboard on a single PC?

    My goal is to instead of buying 4 separate basic PCs (plus the obvious peripherals), buy just one fast PC and the peripherals. I'm wondering if I can use a more powerful computer, say, one with core i7 and plenty of RAM, with 2 video cards (total of 4 monitor outputs) to run 4 or more virtual machines (WinXPs) so instead of having 4 individual machines, I'll be having just one. However, the catch is, is it possible to have a pair of mouse and keyboard + input/output audio for each of these virtual machines?

    I am considering building my next PC into a server rack case, the reason is I am getting a server cabinet and will be putting in a few servers in it. It will be in my room where I use my main PC as well and in my case it just makes sense to build my next PC into this cabinet/rack. So my main concern, will I be able to extend my mouse, keyboard, and 2-3 monitors10-15 feet accross a room from my server rack to my desk?

    I have a Korg Nanokey, and I'd like to make it produce sound in ubuntu. I've read that means I should be using Rosegarden, and that Rosegarden uses JACK, but does not install it. (Although checking out Ubuntu Software Center, apparently some components of JACK are installed by default?) I understand there can be a lot of work setting up JACK without it fighting the default sound server. Can someone give me a step-by-step method for what I need to do to plug in my midi machine and hear music when I press keys as simply as possible (without messing up pulseaudio, ie, so I can still access Skype and ordinary desktop stuff)? I'm fine installing JACK, but I'd like to sandbox it a little if it has the chance of messing up regular desktop.   • About to smash my keyboard!! Ubuntu 13.1 issues with AMD driver & Audio

    Let me preface with saying that this is my 2nd day on Linux. I really want to make it work but these issues are driving me up the wall! I've done exhaustive google searches but have not been able to figure anything out. I am on Ubuntu 13.10, my graphics card is AMD Radeon HD4200. My sound card is a realtek HDMI. I've tried downloading and installing both drivers but nothing works. Graphics card: When I run the .run file (from http://www2.ati.com/drivers/legacy/amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1-legacy-linux-x86.x86_64.zip) I get an error. I check the fglrx-install log and it says this: Check if system has the tools required for installation. fglrx installation requires that the system have kernel headers. /lib/modules/3.11.0-12-generic/build/include/linux/version.h cannot be found on this system. One or more tools required for installation cannot be found on the system. Install the required tools before installing the fglrx driver. Optionally, run the installer with --force option to install without the tools. Forcing install will disable AMD hardware acceleration and may make your system unstable. Not recommended. Audio: Since my first install I've had no audio. I've tried everything outlined in this site: http://itsfoss.com/fix-sound-ubuntu-1304-quick-tip/ to no avail. I've download the linux drivers from Realtek HDMI audio but have had no luck. Any help would be extremely appreciated.

    I am trying to build a remote control application to control media on my Ubuntu. Does anyone know a way in order to accomplish this. The media keys in particular. Thank you. EDIT 1: I have tried using XTE, but is seems python in truncating the input or there is a limit or something which means that you can't do Ctrl + Key key presses, which wont suit my needs. I also tried uinput, but alas you need to run it as root, which also will not quite my needs. Now I am looking at EVDEV which seems promicing, that is if I can get it working.

  • I am so confused about desktop/viewport switching, all I want to do is bind keyboard shortcuts to switch desktops

    I've installed a pre-made Ubuntu 10.04 image at work, and I can't seem to figure out how to get desktop switching to work. No shortcuts work, and all the help I can get from the Ubuntu forums is "CTRL-Alt-Left/Right should work." So lemme get this straight. Switching between desktops is deprecated, so we use viewports, which are managed by Compiz, which has one of the most absurd configuration managers out there. Lovely. Can anyone straighten this out for me, and anyone else who might stumble on this question?

  • Two parts: linux startup script to connect to bluetooth and cron to keep it connected

    I have a mini bluetooth keyboard and a Raspberry Pi running a Debian-based distro. I know the MAC address of the keyboard but for this question, let's just use AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF. Right now I have to have a wired keyboard connected as well as my bluetooth dongle for the mini-keyboard and on the wired keyboard, I have to run the following when the device boots up: sudo hidd --connect AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF If the device goes idle for too long, then the bluetooth disconnects and I have to pull out my wired keyboard and retype that same command. What I'm looking for it a way to have that command run at startup and a way to sense if it gets disconnected so that it will auto reconnect. The annoying thing is that they keyboard has to be in pairing mode (even though it has already been paired) when I run that command, otherwise it tells me the host is down. So perhaps the script needs to prevent it from disconnecting due to inactivity, otherwise I'll have to put it back in pairing mode to reconnect. So to recap: - A script to connect at startup (I can make sure to put the keyboard into pairing mode before turning it on) - A script to prevent it from disconnecting (maybe some sort of signal to send to it every 60 seconds or something?) Any help with this is greatly appreciated! StackOverflow is always the best place to find answers to weird questions! I've been searching long and hard for an answer, but finally had to resort to coming here! Thanks!

    I'm trying to hide the iPad keyboard from a modal view controller but it doesn't work. I have tried resignFirstResponder but that doesn't have any affect if we are in a modal view controller. I tried resignFirstResponder in a non-modal UINavigationController with the very same UIViewController and the keyboard hides correctly. Does anyone know how solve this problem? Thanks. [Update] it looks like there's something wrong with my code because the resignFirstResponder does work (I made a simple test case instead of using my code). But I still don't know what the problem is.

  • C#: Replicating keyboard shortcuts in textbox, how do I prevent the beep sound caused by alt key pre

    I'm creating a routine that allows the user to replicate keyboard shortcuts into a textbox for 'custom keyboard shortcuts' customization, but everytime the alt key is pressed with another letter, it produces another sound. I'm capturing the keys in the textbox_keydown event to parse the modifiers + other keys into a readable Shift + A or Ctrl + Shift + B manner into that very same textbox. Should I be doing this in a different event like textbox_previewkey instead of textbox_keydown? How can I prevent the alt modifier key + a letter or number causing the Beep sound? the textbox is just a normal .net 3.5 textbox with the only edited properties of it being the ReadOnly property to false. Is there a better way I could re-do this? I'm currently just checking that if any modifiers keys are pressed and then + a-z or 0-9, then to go ahead and input the appropriately pressed keys into that same textbox like Shift + A or Ctrl + Shift + Y.

    I am a beginner in Flash Actionscript 3.0 programming. I am trying to create smooth keyboard controls for player movement in a game. I'm currently using addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN) listening for a keyboard key press and then within the handler function moving a graphic by adding a number to its .x or .y property. This creates a slow, sluggish jerk at the beginning. I know there's a smoother, more responsive way to do this but have no idea where to begin. Any help would be appreciated!

    So, I'm addicted to vim and often add lots of garbage to regular text fields when I try to use vim commands and am not in vim. I thought to myself, why can't vim be EVERYWHERE?! Then it struck me. Why not? Has anyone written a program that could redirect input/current text fields into a vim buffer so that one could use vim-style editing in things other than terminals and gVim? Redirect keyboard input?     On Windows, pressing enter when you highlight on a folder in Windows Explorer will open that folder. On OSX, pressing enter when you highlight a folder edits the folder's name (like F2 in Windows). Is there a keyboard shortcut to do the same thing on Windows, so that you'll open the folder? It doesn't have to be enter, but I'd like to know if there's another hotkey that does it. The reason why I ask is because I like to navigate through deep folder structures by using the arrow keys for navigation and enter to drill down into them.

    Is there an easier way to type apostrophes on the Droid X keyboard? I press and hold the period key, which brings up the little pallet of punctuation. But the apostrophe is inexplicably all the way over on the left. Can I move this closer to the right, where my thumb is while clicking and holding the period key? Alternately, can I somehow get an apostrophe on the overhead menu that appears when you type a space? This is the place where auto-correct goes, but when you type a space, it becomes a comma, exclamation point, question mark, etc. How can I get an apostrophe in this list?

    I'm using my MacBook Pro like a desktop sometimes. But for some reason, when I unplug the Power Supply, it is impossible. The MacBook Pro immediately shuts off. When I turn it on by hitting any key on the external keyboard, it wakes up for about 10 seconds but then goes to sleep again. Sometimes I want to use my MacBook Pro without the Power plugged in to it, just to use the Battery a little bit. And also sometimes when someone else needs my Power Supply. I couldn't find an option in the system preferences. Is there an trick how to get that work?

  • How do I make my play/pause keyboard button work correctly in iTunes 10 on Windows?

    First and foremost, I have mmKeys installed correctly. My iTunes works almost perfect while minimized to the tray. My problem is with the play/pause button on my Wireless Comfort Keyboard 5000. When iTunes does not have focus (like it's minimized, or if it isn't the application I'm active in, like right now while typing this) the play pause button toggles twice. So, I'll push the pause button - and the song that is playing will pause, but a split second later will start up again. If the song is paused, and I push play, the song will immediately pause again. In order to get the key to work correctly, I must give iTunes focus, and then push the button.   • Is there a software that can remap the keys for a speficic keyboard?

    There are several keyboards attached to my computer. I'd like to remap the keys on ONE of them, but keep the rest as they were. Is there a software that does this? As for the "why" - I have this idea that I'd like to have a "multimedia keypad" which is separate from my main keyboard, but I could not find any online. So I think that I could take a typical USB numpad (they cost like 5$), and remap the keys on one of them. Add appropriate stickers, and I'm all seat, cheaply. I know that it's theoretically possible, but before I get my hands dirty and write my own software, I'd like to see if there's maybe an existing one out there. Oh, yes, I'm running Windows 7.
