  • Javascript Prototype Best Practice Event Handlers

    - by nahum
    Hi this question is more a consulting of best practice, Sometimes when I'm building a complete ajax application I usually add elements dynamically for example. When you'r adding a list of items, I do something like: var template = new Template("<li id='list#{id}'>#{value}</li>"); var arrayTemplate = []; arrayOfItem.each(function(item, index){ arrayTemplate.push(template.evaluate( id : index, value : item)) }); after this two options add the list via "update" or "insert" ----- $("elementToUpdate").update("<ul>" + arrayTemplate.join("") + "</ul">); the question is how can I add the event handler without repeat the process of read the array, this is because if you try add a Event before the update or insert you will get an Error because the element isn't still on the DOM. so what I'm doing by now is after insert or update: arrayOfItem.each(function(item, index){ $("list" + index).observe("click", function(){ alert("I see the world"); }) }); so the question is exist a better way to doing this??????

  • Vertical Aligned Text and Image in list

    - by Wayne
    Is there a way of vertical aligning text and an image in a list? e.g. <li>Some text here <img src="image.jpg" alt="" /></li> The text doesn't align in the middle of the side of the image, it appears at the bottom then the image is next to it. I need the text to be in the center point between the image on the side. What's the best way of doing it? I know having a image inside a list isn't valid HTML (AFAIK). Thanks :)

  • dynamically bound elements don't subscribe to CSS rules

    - by user961627
    I'm using ajax to dynamically populate a menu. The problem is the dynamically created elements do not follow the CSS rules, although they're created with the right classname. This is surprising. Here's my HTML: <div id='menu1'> <ul class='menu'> <?php $sql = /// /* some sql string, which works */ $result = mysql_query($sql); while($row = mysql_fetch_array( $result )) { $prod_id = $row['product_id']; $prod_name = $row['product_name']; echo "<li data-title='$prod_id' class='menu1_item'>".$prod_name."</li> "; } ?> </ul> </div> <div id='menu2'> <ul class='menu'> </ul> </div> <div id='menu3'> <ul class='menu'> </ul> </div> Here's my jquery: $(".menu1_item").click( function() { $.ajax({ type: "POST", data: { m: '2', id: $(this).attr('data-title') }, url: "fetch_designs.php", success: function(msg){ if (msg != ''){ $("#menu2").html(msg).show(); $(".menu2_item").bind('click',function() { $.ajax({ type: "POST", data: { m: '3', id: $(this).attr('data-title') }, url: "fetch_designs.php", success: function(msg){ if (msg != ''){ $("#menu3").html(msg).show(); } } }); //end menu2 click }); //end if } //end success } }); //end menu1 click }); My CSS is as follows: ul.menu li { cursor:pointer; list-style: none; } #menu1, #menu2, #menu3 { margin:50px; position:relative; display:block; float:left; } .menu1-item .menu2-item .menu3-item { padding:4px; background-color:lightgray; color:black; cursor:pointer; }

  • Rails select list reverts to top?

    - by Danny McClelland
    Hi Everyone, I have number of select lists in my rails application like this: <li>Company<span><%= f.select :company_id, Company.all.collect {|m| [m.companyname, m.id]} %></span></li> They all work well, except - sometimes if you go to the edit view, the select list reverts to the top item, not the item that was chosen when creating. So if you go to an edit view and then click update without actually making any changes, the lists default to the top item - even though you didn't touch them. Is there a way around this? Thanks, Danny

  • Infinite Refresh Loop in Firefox 3.0

    - by Martin Gordon
    I'm having a strange issue with my Javascript in Firefox 3.0.x. In Firefox 3.0.12, the page constantly reloads as soon as the list body is loaded. Neither Firefox 3.5, Safari 4 nor Chrome 5 (all on Mac) experience this issue. EDIT: I've created an isolated example rather than pulling this from my existing code. test.js function welcomeIndexOnLoad() { $("#options a").live('click', function () { optionClicked($(this), "get_list_body.html"); return false; }); $(document).ready(function() { optionClicked(null, "get_list_body.html"); }); } function optionClicked(sender, URL) { queryString = ""; if (sender != null) { queryString = $(sender).attr("rel"); } $("#list_body").load(URL + "?" + queryString, function(resp, status, AJAXReq) { console.log(resp); console.log("" + status); location.hash = queryString; }); }? test.html <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="test.js"></script> <script> welcomeIndexOnLoad(); </script> </head> <body> <div id="container"> Outside of list body. <div id="list_body"> </div> </div> </body> </html> get_list_body.html <h3> <div id="options"> <a href="#" rel="change_list">Change List</a> </div> <ul> <li>li</li> </ul> jQuery line 5252 (an xhr.send() call) shows up in the console as soon as the page reloads: xhr.send( type === "POST" || type === "PUT" || type === "DELETE" ? s.data : null );

  • Option not clickable with mouse click after focus on select

    - by Manna
    I have configured a keyboard navigation for customized selects. Here the codepen to see in action : http://codepen.io/Mannaio/pen/ebyBi?editors=001 You can use the arrows up and down inside the selects and click the option with enter or tab button. I have a problem now and these are the steps reproduce the error 1) Do Focus on Input Name 2) Press Tab 3) If you hover and then do click with the mouse in any of the select options, they can not be selected with the mouse click This is the only error, it works perfectly if you move the arrows up and down and then you press the enter o tab, i want to to be able to select the option also with the mouse click after i do the focus with the tab button in the customized select Technically the problem is that the hover with the keyboards up and down is different when i hover with the mouse in the select-options. Line 185 function setSelected(menuitem) { $("ul.select-options.active li").removeClass("itemhover"); $("ul.select-options.active li").eq(menuitem).addClass("itemhover"); };

I am working with a wordpress theme. Basically could I have suggestions for the correct selector to use in order to influence this tag? I can provide a simplified html structure if it will help. I've tried a number of selectors along the lines of: (sometimes)#page (# or .)cats (sometimes)ul li(sometimes with class name) EDIT: I've tried the selectors suggested in the wordpress docs. Thanks!

  • List/Grid Toggle for Photo Gallery with Shadowbox

    - by InfamouslyBubbly
    so I'm new to this site, and new to jquery, and javascript as a whole really, but I have very good comprehension of HTML and CSS. For a class in school, I'm making a photo gallery webpage using the Shadowbox plugin. I have that part all down, but one of the requirements is to add some sort of user option that the user can change that will get saved in a cookie. (I haven't gotten to the cookie part yet) For my option, I decided to add a toggle that will switch the view of the page from a grid view (default) with images, to a list view of just the captions of the images. I figured out how to do that, but decided it could probably done in a much simpler fashion with the use of loops. Here is the HTML I have: <body> <div id="preferences"> <h1>My Photo Gallery</h1> <ul id="options"> <li><a href="#" id="list"><img src="media/listview.png" alt="List view"/></a></li> <li><a href="#" id="grid"><img src="media/gridview.png" alt="List view"/></a></li> </ul> </div> <div id="gallery"> <a rel="shadowbox[Gallery]" class="l1 img" href="media/img1.jpg" title="Black and White Leopard Pattern"><img src="media/thumb1.jpg" alt="Black and White Leopard Pattern"/></a> <a rel="shadowbox[Gallery]" class="l2 img" href="media/img2.jpg" title="Snow Leopard Pattern"><img src="media/thumb2.jpg" alt="Snow Leopard Pattern"/></a> <a rel="shadowbox[Gallery]" class="l3 img" href="media/img3.jpg" title="Colorful Triangle Pattern"><img src="media/thumb3.jpg" alt="Colurful Triangle Pattern"/></a> <a rel="shadowbox[Gallery]" class="l4 img" href="media/img4.jpg" title="Tie Dye Zebra Stripe Pattern"><img src="media/thumb4.jpg" alt="Tie Dye Zebra Stripe Pattern"/></a> <a rel="shadowbox[Gallery]" class="l5 img" href="media/img5.jpg" title="Blue Knitted Pattern"><img src="media/thumb5.jpg" alt="Blue Knitted Pattern"/></a> <a rel="shadowbox[Gallery]" class="l6 img" href="media/img6.jpg" title="Black and White Damask Pattern"><img src="media/thumb6.jpg" alt="Black and White Damask Pattern"/></a> <a rel="shadowbox[Gallery]" class="l7 img" href="media/img7.jpg" title="Wooden Panel Pattern"><img src="media/thumb7.jpg" alt="Wooden Panel Pattern"/></a> <a rel="shadowbox[Gallery]" class="l8 img" href="media/img8.jpg" title="Brick Pattern"><img src="media/thumb8.jpg" alt="Brick Pattern"/></a> <a rel="shadowbox[Gallery]" class="l9 img" href="media/img9.jpg" title="Watercolor Pattern"><img src="media/thumb9.jpg" alt="Watercolor Pattern"/></a> <a rel="shadowbox[Gallery]" class="l10 img" href="media/img10.jpg" title="Orange Stripe Pattern"><img src="media/thumb10.jpg" alt="Orange Stripe Pattern"/></a> <a rel="shadowbox[Gallery]" class="l11 img" href="media/img11.jpg" title="Blue Scales Pattern"><img src="media/thumb11.jpg" alt="Blue Scales Pattern"/></a> <a rel="shadowbox[Gallery]" class="l12 img" href="media/img12.jpg" title="Woven Pattern"><img src="media/thumb12.jpg" alt="Woven Pattern"/></a> </div> </body> So here is the sample that works (for the list portion anyways), but seems excessive in terms of code since I'd have to repeat for each image: $(document).ready(function(){ $( "#list" ).click(function() { $( "a.l1" ).removeClass( "img" ); $( "a.l1" ).addClass( "lst" ); $( "a.l1" ).text( $( "a.l1" ).attr( "title" ); //repeat for l1 through l12 (that`s the letter L not a 1) }); $( "#grid" ).click(function() { $( "a.l1" ).removeClass( "lst" ); $( "a.l1" ).addClass( "grid" ); //actually have no idea at all how to get this back to the original img tag other than maybe .innerHTML??? //repeat for l1 through l12 (again, that`s the letter L not a 1) }); }): And here is kinda how I'd like it (Y'know, except in a way that works) $(document).ready(function(){ var i = 1; var selcur = $( "'a.l" + i + "'" ); var title = selcur.attr( "title" ); var image = '<img src="media/thumb' + i + '.jpg" alt="' + title + '"/>'; $( "#list" ).click(function() { while (1<=12) { selcur.addClass("lst"); selcur.removeClass("img"); selcur.text( title ); i++; } i = 1; }); $( "#grid" ).click(function() { while (1<=12) { selcur.removeClass("lst"); selcur.addClass("img"); selcur.text( image ); i++; } i = 1; }); }); Please tell me how I am going about this wrong, keep in mind again I'm new to this, I appreciate any and all responses! Is there a better way to do this? I really want to keep it simple.
