  • Oracle: FRM-41211 Error Message when starting a Report from Oracle Forms (64 Bit Windows Server)

    After installing Oracle Forms and Reports 6.0 (Patch 18) on a Windows 2008 64 Bit server we get the following error when we try to start a report from Forms. "FRM-41211 integration error: ssl failure running another product" The problem is reproducable on another server using the same Windows OS. One of the proposed solutions (extending the REPORTS60_PATH) we have already tried but that did not help solving our problem. Another tip has been to shorten the content of the path variable before installing Oracle Forms and Reports. We will try this later on another server. Any other tips or solutions for this error would be very much appreciated.

  • Oracle Text query parser

    Oracle Text provides a rich query syntax which enables powerful text searches.However, this syntax isn't intended for use by inexperienced end-users.  If you provide a simple search box in your application, you probably want users to be able to type "Google-like" searches into the box, and have your application convert that into something that Oracle Text understands.For example if your user types "windows nt networking" then you probably want to convert this into something like"windows ACCUM nt ACCUM networking".  But beware - "NT" is a reserved word, and needs to be escaped.  So let's escape all words:"{windows} ACCUM {nt} ACCUM {networking}".  That's fine - until you start introducing wild cards. Then you must escape only non-wildcarded searches:"win% ACCUM {nt} ACCUM {networking}".  There are quite a few other "gotchas" that you might encounter along the way.Then there's the issue of scoring.  Given a query for "oracle text query syntax", it would be nice if we could score a full phrase match higher than a hit where all four words are present but not in a phrase.  And then perhaps lower than that would be a document where three of the four terms are present.  Progressive relaxation helps you with this, but you need to code the "progression" yourself in most cases.To help with this, I've developed a query parser which will take queries in Google-like syntax, and convert them into Oracle Text queries. It's designed to be as flexible as possible, and will generate either simple queries or progressive relaxation queries. The input string will typically just be a string of words, such as "oracle text query syntax" but the grammar does allow for more complex expressions:  word : score will be improved if word exists  +word : word must exist  -word : word CANNOT exist  "phrase words" : words treated as phrase (may be preceded by + or -)  field:(expression) : find expression (which allows +,- and phrase as above) within "field". So for example if I searched for   +"oracle text" query +syntax -ctxcatThen the results would have to contain the phrase "oracle text" and the word syntax. Any documents mentioning ctxcat would be excluded from the results. All the instructions are in the top of the file (see "Downloads" at the bottom of this blog entry).  Please download the file, read the instructions, then try it out by running "parser.pls" in either SQL*Plus or SQL Developer.I am also uploading a test file "test.sql". You can run this and/or modify it to run your own tests or run against your own text index. test.sql is designed to be run from SQL*Plus and may not produce useful output in SQL Developer (or it may, I haven't tried it).I'm putting the code up here for testing and comments. I don't consider it "production ready" at this point, but would welcome feedback.  I'm particularly interested in comments such as "The instructions are unclear - I couldn't figure out how to do XXX" "It didn't work in my environment" (please provide as many details as possible) "We can't use it in our application" (why not?)   • Yet another ADF book - Oracle ADF Real World Developer’s Guide

    I'm happy to report that the number of ADF published books is expanding yet again, with this time Oracle's own Jobinesh Purushothaman publishing the Oracle ADF Real World Developer’s Guide.  I can remember the dim dark days when there was but just 1 Oracle book besides the documentation, so today it's great to have what I think might be the 7 or 8th ADF book publicly available, and not to forgot all our other technical docs too. Jobinesh has even published some extra chapters online that will give you a good taste of what to expect.  If you're interested in positive reviews, the ADF EMG already has it's first happy customer. Now to see if I can get Oracle to expense me a copy.

  • Progress 4GL and DB to Oracle and cloud

    Getting from client/server based 4GLs and databases where the 4GL is tightly linked to the database to Oracle and the cloud is not easy. The least risky and expensive option (in the short term) is to use the Progress OpenEdge DataServer for Oracle: Progress OpenEdge DataServer This eliminates the need to have to migrate the Progress 4GL to Java/J2EE. The database can be migrated using SQLWays Ispirer: Ispirer SQLWays ProgressDB migrations tool The Progress 4GL can remain as is. In order to get the application on the cloud there are a few approaches: 1. VDI - Virtual Desktop is a way to put all of the users desktop in a centralized environment off the desktop. This is great in cases where it is just not one client/server application that the user needs access too. In many cases, users will utilize MS Access, MS Excel, Crystal Reports and other tools to get at the Progress DB and other centralized databases. Vmware's acquistion of Wanova shows how VDI is growing in usage. Citrix is the 800 pound gorilla in the VDI space with Citrix WinFrame (now called XenDesktop). Oracle offers a VDI solution that Oracle picked up when it acquired Sun. 2. Hypervisor Server Virtualization - Of course you can place applications written in client/server languages like Progress 4GL buy using server virtualization from Oracle, VMWare, Microsoft, Citrix and others. 3. Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (aka: Terminal Services Client) The entire idea is to eliminate all the client/server desktop devices and connections which require desktop software and database drivers.   • Installing MySQL-Ruby on Linux and Ruby 1.9.2

    I am having an absurdly difficult time getting MySQL-Ruby to install on RedHat 4 using Ruby 1.9.2. I am behind a company proxy that prevents pretty much any package tool from connecting to external repositories so "gem install mysql" isn't going to cut it. I have tried installing the mysql-ruby gem locally but it fails with a mysterious: $gem install mysql-2.8.1.gem Building native extensions. This could take a while...   • java+netbeans+mysql+ubuntu 64 bits LTS VS C#+MS SQL for fast develop trading system

    I am going to build a trading system and use with the broker "Interactive Broker" API. The API supports C++ Socket, Java Socket, DDE, Active X APIs in Windows. The API supports Java Socket API, Posix C++ Socket API in Unix kind like Ubuntu. My trading system has some real time long calculations to do and a lot of maths for backtest. I am using a retail trading program Amibroker which is written in C++ and I run it in windows xp 32 bits, it will take me days to do one serious backtest with my G620 Sandy Bridge CPU and 3GB of ram. So for my trading system, I need to have 1. speed, 2. stability, 3. fast development I have done some research, C++ is fastest but I am not good at it and it takes much longer time to develop. Other than C++, Java in linux has the best speed. I also did some research for database and look like mysql has the best speed. Mysql and PostgreSQL both are very popular open source sql db, which one should I choose? I see MySQL has Workbench now which looks like similar to MS SQL management studio so look like a good start. Netbeans should be the most popular Java IDE now and seem like its GUI design can be as easy as Virtual Studio now. I am not sure if made by Netbeans would affect the speed and if its GUI design is really that good and easy to use. Ubuntu 64 bits LTS has good long term support, good community support, and stable. I will buy a new computer if I can create a good trading system for live trading and backtest. Very likely I will buy a I7 or I5 depends on if I7 can really have better speed for my case. Actually I mainly deal with C# in my jobs and I just knew java but not good at java. What would you guys recommend? Any better solution? This will be a big project and very likely life long project for me so I seriously do research including asking you guys before I start and focus on what I should, thanks!

    I've created a simple django project and setup a mysql database. My simple project just creates an entry on the database. The project works fine when I use the built in development server provided by django (runserver) and it works well. But when I deployed the project on Apache and mod_Wsgi (Ubuntu server), django could not find 'books', which is in this case my table in the database. The mysql database that I use in runserver and apache are just the same. I also did rebuild the database using sqlall,validate and syncdb of django but still i get the error. What could be wrong with what I'm doing? Thanks

  • Apache 2.4 PHP 5.4 mysql not found?

    Just tried setting up the latest Apache (2.4.1 x86 VC10 from apachelounge) and PHP (5.4 VC9 TS X86, with the php5apache2_4.dll) on my PC and ran into this weird problem; in my php.ini I have enabled all of the following: extension=php_mysql.dll extension=php_mysqli.dll extension=php_pdo_mysql.dll but when I try to print the available PDO's using this: print_r(PDO::getAvailableDrivers()); It gives me an empty array. PhpMyAdmin and MantisBT also refuse to work, saying that the mysql extension is missing. phpinfo() gives this: PDO PDO support enabled PDO drivers no value and when searching for mysql, only the mysqlnd section pops up... The DLLs are there in the D:/php/ext folder and no errors pop up when starting up Apache, as well as no errors in the Windows Event Log, and PHP itself has no error log anyway. What could possibly be the problem with this? Before this I had Apache 2.2.22 from apachelounge and PHP 5.3.9 and I had no problems. Now nothing works...

  • Fast Data: Go Big. Go Fast.

    Cross-posting Dain Hansen's excellent recap of the Big Data/Fast Data announcement during OOW: For those of you who may have missed it, today’s second full day of Oracle OpenWorld 2012 started with a rumpus. Joe Tucci, from EMC outlined the human face of big data with real examples of how big data is transforming our world. And no not the usual tried-and-true weblog examples, but real stories about taxi cab drivers in Singapore using big data to better optimize their routes as well as folks just trying to get a better hair cut. Next we heard from Thomas Kurian who talked at length about the important platform characteristics of Oracle’s Cloud and more specifically Oracle’s expanded Cloud Services portfolio. Especially interesting to our integration customers are the messaging support for Oracle’s Cloud applications. What this means is that now Oracle’s Cloud applications have a lightweight integration fabric that on-premise applications can communicate to it via REST-APIs using Oracle SOA Suite. It’s an important element to our strategy at Oracle that supports this idea that whether your requirements are for private or public, Oracle has a solution in the Cloud for all of your applications and we give you more deployment choice than any vendor. If this wasn’t enough to get the juices flowing, later that morning we heard from Hasan Rizvi who outlined in his Fusion Middleware session the four most important enterprise imperatives: Social, Mobile, Cloud, and a brand new one: Fast Data. Today, Rizvi made an important step in the definition of this term to explain that he believes it’s a convergence of four essential technology elements: Event Processing for event filtering, business rules – with Oracle Event Processing Data Transformation and Loading - with Oracle Data Integrator Real-time replication and integration – with Oracle GoldenGate Analytics and data discovery – with Oracle Business Intelligence Each of these four elements can be considered (and architect-ed) together on a single integrated platform that can help customers integrate any type of data (structured, semi-structured) leveraging new styles of big data technologies (MapReduce, HDFS, Hive, NoSQL) to process more volume and variety of data at a faster velocity with greater results.  Fast data processing (and especially real-time) has always been our credo at Oracle with each one of these products in Fusion Middleware. For example, Oracle GoldenGate continues to be made even faster with the recent 11g R2 Release of Oracle GoldenGate which gives us some even greater optimization to Oracle Database with Integrated Capture, as well as some new heterogeneity capabilities.   • creating a google wave clone using php/mysql/jquery

    seasons greetings to all. i have a question that has been rather bugging me as of late. does anyone know how one can create a google wave clone using php/mysql/jquery as primary points of development. any ideas on how this might be possible and recommend any starting points? i have some time off work and it would be an interesting project to undertake as i want to use it in an e-learning framework next year. i will be testing the product on a XAMPP local server. i understand some of the technologies that google wave using but i am rather curious as to how these can be developed to a decent standard using php/mysql/jquery (i mention these three because i am quite adept at them). any links to resources best suited to an intermediate programmer would be appreciated. many thanks and God bless. so far i have this: http://konrness.com/javascript/google-wave-style-scroll-bar-jquery-plugin/
