  • RDC and black screen mystery

    The following are all Windows 7 64 bit Business edition computers. I have a PC (lets call it "PC1") that I remotely access now and again using Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) on my laptop downstairs. Sometimes when I physically go back to sit at PC1, the screen is black and there is no way for me to wake it into life, no login screen or anything - the PC is still on and I am always forced to do a hard reboot. What can I do to stop this happening, it's really annoying.

    hello i installed debian squeeze in my pc but i dont have any sound , my sound device is Ac97 and i installed these package in my system alsa-base alsa-oss alsa-tools alsa-utils alsamixergui gstreamer0.10-alsa libao-common libao4 libasound2 linux-sound-base oss-compat when i want to run alsamixer io got this message cannot open mixer: No such file or directory anyone know why i got this message ? and i cant hear any sound in my pc?

  • Windows 7 laptop fonts DPI is too big breaking certain applications

    I have just installed windows 7 on a laptop and the fonts seem to be doing weird things, Ive adjusted the DPI back to 100% (was 125% by default) however certain applications (old delphi programmed ones) do not look correct still. Here is a screen shot comparing my laptop to my PC running the same software (ROCLink RTU configuration software), the PC looks fine but the laptop does not. Does anyone know where the problem may lie or what I should try next? Thanks

Can I use this backup to restore my dual boot pc back in shape. If the mbr is destroyed/damaged? Can I use this backup to restore my os and applications on the same machine if the machine's hard drive is reformatted?

    The problem: If i access SharePoint from Windows 7 with IE8 or Chrome5 - I must wait for like a minute to get a response. If i use other Windows 7 with IE8, just the same - just wait a MINUTE. If i use Firefox3.6 on W7 machine - page opens up instantly. Now switch to IE rendering engine in Firefox, you will have to wait just as with IE. Now i tried IE8 on XP SP3 - page opens up instantly. I tried IE8 on Windows Server 2003 SP2 (machine on which SharePoint is hosted) - page opens up instantly.     I have a soundcard in my new PC at work that does not have the right driver installed, and I'm not sure what the manufacturer is. (it's a generic PC running Windows XP) Is there a way to figure out what device it is w/o having to open the thing up or pester my IT department? When I look at it in Device Manager it says IDT High Definition Audio CODEC and when I look around in the Properties dialog boxes there's a Device Instance ID of HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_76C1&SUBSYS_12974001&REV_1001\4&3612FC2B&0&0001

    we just setup a windows 7 ultimate file server, and all the other computers on the network, found the server expect the windows 8 computer. computers on the network: vista, win 7 ultimate, mac os, win 8 (problem) I setup a homegroup on the win 7 server pc, but the windows 8 computer can't find the homegroup, nor can it connect to the server by typing its network ext //server-pc i've tried to turn on all the windows 8 sharing to discovery ON, on Private and Public and all Networks, and got nothing. should be noted that the computer is using norton firewall/AV, im not sure if that's a factor

  • Cygwin unable to compile

    I just downloaded Cygwin, I've never used it before cause I've always used putty. Cygwin is not letting me compile; I can see the files but it just doesn't let me compile and I do not understand why, am I doing something wrong?
