• Stuck at "Hello World" with IntelliJ IDEA 9.0.1 for Scala

  I've been using Eclipse since 2.x and and IDEs in general for over 20 years (since Turbo Pascal and Turbo C in the late '80s!). (that preamble is supposed to imply, "I'm not an idiot" ... LOL :-] ) I'm trying to use the debugger in IntelliJ 9.0.1. I've resigned myself to an old standby: class hello { def main(a: Array[String]) = println("got args: " + a) } Alas, I'm unable to get even this simple Scala example to run. I'd like to eventually put a breakpoint in it, but for now just running it would be great. I have Java 1.6u20 and the Scala plug-in 0.3.473 (January 2010).   Hello, I am trying to pass a variable to an ajax request via jquery. I have a triggered event that defines the variable. I want to do this so that I can have one ajax request handle multiple urls. I have alerted the url and it come back fine, but when I plug it into the URL slot of a $.ajax request my targeted content does not load. Here is my code. $(document).ready(function(){ $('a').live('click', function(){ var link = $(this).attr("href"); $.ajax({ url: link, success: function(html){ $('#load').html(html) } }); }); }); this has been a real headache and I feel I am just misusing something. • Supporting different locale regions using Rails i18n

  I'm using the standard Rails I18n API to localise some of our views. This is working really well, but we now have a few use cases for regional changes to the en locale. The API guide mentions that this isn't supported directly, and other plugins should be used. However, I'm wondering whether there's a simpler way to do this. I already have en.yml, so in theory I could just create en-AU.yml and en-US.yml which are effectively clones of en.yml but with a few regional changes applied. I could then add additional English - American and English - Australian options to our configuration which would map to the new region-specific locales and allow users to use a region-specific locale. The only problem I can think of with this is that it isn't DRY -- I would have duplicate translations for all common English words. I can't see a way around this. Are there any other disadvantages to this approach, or should I just bite the bullet and dive into one of the plug-ins such as Globalize2 instead?

  I'm recently migrating to Linq2Sql and all my future projects would be done in Linq2Sql. Having said that, I researched a lot on how to properly plug-in Linq2Sql in application design. what to put at what layer ? Should I use DTOs over Linq2Sql entities ? I did not find any rock-solid material that really talked about one single thing and everyone had their own opinions and I found all of them justified right from their arguments. I'm looking forward to your ideas on how to integrate/use Linq2Sql in projects. My priority is maintenance[it should be maintenable and when multiple people work on same project] and scalabilty [it should have scope of evolution]. Thanks.

  Hi I got one assignment on Dynamic CRM 4. We have one custome entity and it has one attribute called 'Issue Number' this attributes value generated by Plug-in when it save. When form will created meaning onLoad it will display blank value(text box is empty). But now we want to check that number is existing then concate with some random number. For that I wrote following javascript. if((event.Mode == 1) || (event.Mode == 2) ) { var varIssueNumber = crmForm.all.new_issueNumber.DataValue; alert(varIssueNumber); } but it is giving 'null'. • Why would Silverlight be crashing in Release but not in Debug mode?

  I have a Silverlight App that has worked well in Debug and Release modes for weeks. It still works well in Debug mode. However, now when I run it in Release mode, it starts, shows me the screen, loads the data, then hangs, and the browser (Firefox) closes automatically. I've tried other browsers and each of them crashes, Chrome says "The Silverlight Plug-In has crashed" for instance. How can I get more information about what is happening at the point of crash in Release mode that is not happening in Debug mode?

  Hello, I would need to build a html table that has a horizontally scrolable column. The scroll should be placed in the column's header. My question first question is: do you know any jquery plug-in that is able to do this? My second question: is this possible using a single table. I've heard that in order to do this you need to use multiple synchronized tables that look like a single one from the user's perspective. Any ideea/advice would be welcomed. Thank you.

• Connecting two Windows XP with MSMQ

  This question is a cross between a developer and a server setup question. I asked on Serverfault but no answer yet. As a developer, I need to setup a test to see how MSMQ works between two machines, and I'm unclear what to do. I will use C# or BizTalk to do the read/write to/from the queues. I have MSMQ installed on two Windows XP computers. Can I configure them to pass messages back and forth, or do I need an MSMQ server in the middle? If I need an MSMQ server, does the normal MSMQ with Win2003 able to act as that? And then, how do I connect my Windows XP to that Windows 2003 server? Is it a) On screen admin dialog in the MSMQ plug-in to MMC, b) a config file, c) Active Directory, d) something else? Thanks, Neal Walters

• php proxy to local mercurial server

  I was wondering is it possible to create a php proxy to a server that listens onlu locally so that the php gateway is public and it directs everything to the server listening on localhost. This server would be mercurial's hg serve that listens only on 127.0.0.1 and php will do the authentication. Do You think it's possible to do? Anybody has an idea how to make a general proxy in php so that not only http get works, but also hg push? I know there are ways to host mercurial repo with auth, but it's on a plug computer and I don't have a lot of space for more apps etc.

• Would a Socket Connection Outperform an Intarvaled Database Sweep and Requests?

  I'm building a small chat application to add to an existing framework. There will only be 20-50 users MAX at any one time. I was wondering if I could get away with updating a cache file containing (semi) live chat data for whichever users happen to be chatting just by performing timed queries and regular AJAX refreshes for new data as opposed to learning how to open and maintain a socket connection. I'm sure there are existing chat plug-ins out there. But I just had a hell of a time installing one and I could see building the whole damn thing taking just as much time as plugging one in. • Is there a way to add name/value functionality to jquery autocomplete for .net?

  I've recently added the JQuery autocomplete plug in and have a textbox that autocompletes a list of employees. It works great and I commend the authors of the plugin. I think the textbox would be MUCH more useful though, when upon selecting, we can extract the StaffID (Ie. retreive the value of the selection). My code is below and you can see that I am simply adding the staff names, would be nice to associate IDs. Does anyone know of any way to do this? • Basic refactoring features (e.g., Rename) unavailable when editing code in an aspx/ascx files

  I was just editing some C# code between <% %> tags in an .ascx file, and I noticed that the Refactor contextual menu is unavailable. And even if I manually add items from this menu to a custom toolbar, they are disabled when viewing aspx/ascx files. I usually only have small snippets of C# code in my aspx/ascx files, but it would still be nice to be able to perform refactoring operations on any code that exists between <% %> tags. I feel like I'm going back to the dark ages when I have to use find/replace to change the name of a variable. Questions Is there a way to enable Visual Studio's refactoring features while viewing aspx/ascx files in Visual Studio? Are there any Visual Studio plug-ins (preferably free) that offer this kind of functionality?

  Hi, I have a web page with a dynamically generated image map (from a server side charting tool that I have no control over). I have a value for each area in the title attribute that I want to display on top of the image. I could dynamically generate span elements with absolute positioning, but I'm not sure how to calculate the "center" of a poly shaped area to use as coordinates. Is there an easy way to create texts for image map areas? a JQuery plug in perhaps? Do you know a good way to calculate the center of a poly area? Do you have any other suggestions? • iphone memory leaks and malloc?

  Okay so im finally to the point where I am testing my iPad App on an actual iPad... One thing that my app does is display a large (2mb) image in a scroll view. This is causing the iPad to get memory warnings. I run the app in the instruments to check for the leak. When I load the image, a leak is detected and i see the following in the allocations: ALl Allocations: 83.9 MB Malloc 48.55 MB: 48.55 MB Malloc 34.63 MB: 34.63 MB What im trying to understand is how to plug the leak obviously, but also why a 2MB image is causing a malloc of 20x that size I am very new to programming in obj-c so im sure this is an obvious thing, but I just cant figure it out. When I add jConfirm after "return" it works...for a second. it pops the warning and then the page refreshes and the dialog box goes away. Does anyone know how to fix this?

• Automated payment notification with php

  I'm about to integrate automated payments into a site. To date, I've successfully used paypal for a number of projects, but these have always been sites which sell physical goods, meaning I can upload the cart contents, user pays, person physically ships goods. This site is a one off payment to enable extra features on a web app. My current thinking is to go down the paypal IPN route to get a notification back and update the users account based on the successful payment. Question is in two parts: 1 - is there a better / simpler way? (any payment processor considered) 2 - does anyone know of a code library or plug in for php which will speed up my integration? • Accurate Timings with Oscilloscopes on PC

  In the world of embedded software (firmware) it is fairly common to observe the order of events, take timings and optimise a program by getting it to waggle PIO lines and capturing their behavior on an oscilloscope. In days gone by it was possible to toggle pins on the serial and parallel ports to achieve much the same thing on PC-based software. This made it possible to capture host PC-based software events and firmware events on the same trace and examine host software/firmware interactions. Now, my new laptop ... no serial or parallel ports! This is increasingly the case. So, does anyone have any suggestions as to go about emitting accurate timing signals off a "modern" PC? It strikes me that we don't have any immediately programmable, lag-free output pins left. The solution needs to run off a laptop, so using add-on cards that only plug into desktops are not permitted.

• How do I wrap a selection with an HTML tag in Visual Studio?

  This seems like the most basic question in the world, but damned if I can find an answer. Is there a keyboard shortcut, either native to Visual Studio or through Code Rush or other third-party plug-in, to wrap the current selection with an HTML tag? I'm tired of typing the opening tag, cutting the misplaced closing tag to the clipboard, moving the cursor, and pasting it at the end where it belongs. Update: This is how TextMate handles surrounding a selection with a tag. Frankly, I'm stunned that Visual Studio doesn't seem to have a similar feature. Creating a macro or snippet for every conceivable tag I might want to use seems absurd.

  I have a great deal of javascript that needs to be min'd before being served to the end user. Currently, I'm using JSMIN, but I'd like to switch to something a bit more powerful (such as something with local variable replacement). I'm currently looking at YUI min developed by yahoo, and it got me thinking about the min tool that jquery uses. Does anyone know what it is and if it's publicly available? Also, any recommendations on other min tools that might be better suited than YUI min? If possible, I'd like a java solution so I can just plug the library into what I've already created for the JSMIN solution. Thanks

• Need a formula for calculating the tax portion of a total amount.

  In Australia we have to advertise products with tax already added, so rather than say a product is $10 + $1 GST = $11, we normally work backwards and say "ok, total is $10, how much of that is GST ?" For example, for a $10 total, you do 10 * (1 /11) = 0.91, which is the tax component of the $10 total. My problem is I need calculate a formula for working out the taxable component when the tax rate is a variable. So far I've made this calculation although I'm not sure how correct an assertion it is: 10 * (1 / x) = 0.09 * (1 / y) where y = 10, x = 11 Basically i want to work out x on the left hand side when I know that the tax rate is 0.05 for example, which will give me a formula that I can use to calculate the taxable component of an total figure. I want a function into which I can plug in the total price and the tax rate, and get back the taxable component of the total price. I'd really appreciate the help with this as it really makes my head hurt ! :")

My next project uses Spring (which I'm not very familiar with), and I'm wondering whether I should consider changing my IDE from early on; e.g. to SpringSource eclipse/Intellij IDEA Professional. Do you guys have any experience with these IDE-built-in Spring support? Is it worth using?

• Building an Issue Trecker Plugin for TortoiseSVN

  I've read a lot about IBugTraqProvider interface and implementing an issue tracker into the commit dialog of TortoiseSVN. IBugTraqProvider is written here. Is there a more simpler way not to do it, building the plug-in and installing it on TortoiseSVN. The Document is not that clear that a developer can create its own plugin. I'm working with SalesForce as the Issue Tracker, and retrieved the WSDL file to integrate with the Working Items. Now I need to know how to connect it to ToortoiseSVN. Please any suggestions?
