• cygwin ssh shortcut on windows desktop

  I have multiple servers that I need to remote into. I prefer Cygwin over Putty to do so. Anyhows - the process of opening my cool Mintty window and then typing the following commands takes too long. PS - I am using a "key" authentication to these servers. First, I double Click Cygwin Terminal shortcut from my windows desktop. Then once the terminal session has booted up, from the command prompt I type the following - $ eval `ssh-agent` $ ssh-add $ ssh <username>@<servername> Please keep in mind that my 'servername' is variable. In fact I have about 10 different server names that could potentially be inserted there - Hence my need for 10 different shortcuts. I would prefer to double click on something from my desktop that will fire up my Mintty and automatically execute the above bash shell commands. Does anyone have or can recommend a nice/elegant solution to do this?

• Port forwarding stopped working in my Linksys WRT54G2 Linksys router.

  How to do it again? I had simply forwarded needed ports (e.g. for counter strike, ftp, http etc)) but now with same system, same OS and same router and settings, it's not working. Tried setting router to "factory defaults" and do everything again. However other jobs are being done like it is connecting to my DSL ISP and I can access Internet easily. Still no success. PS. I tried on both Windows and Ubuntu. On Windows I use it for Counter Strike and others (e.g. host my local FTP server) on Ubuntu.

  I am trying to give another PC completely unrestricted access to my machine. They are both on the same subnet. What I am looking for is effectively disabling the firewall entirely for one IP address. Example Host: 192.168.1.2 Client: 192.168.1.3 Firewall "off" World: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Firewall "on" To be specific I am running "Easy"PHP as a testing server for websites and want to access them from other machines on my network. After tinkering I figure the method suggested in my question would be best to make things actually easy. PS. I have already tried opening all ports both inbound and outbound to that IP with no results. My only current success has been actually turning the whole firewall off.

• How I can compile this C++ code that fails with "'::main' must return 'int'"? [migrated]

  I have tried to find a solution that make batch file start flashing on taskbar and only good solution was this post on Stack Overflow. But I can't compile the code with WinGW or anything else to EXE, only getting this error: hello.cpp:6:32: error: '::main' must return 'int' Right now, I'm using TDM-GCC to compile code, because it's bit better... Can somebody give me code that actually works or even better compile it to EXE already? P.S. Even more better if somebody could compile this Delphi code, because I can't find any software that's free.

• Hybrid HDD/SSD Volume Windows

  Is it possible to create a hybrid drive-like experience using an ssd and a hdd? In theory, frequently used files would be stored on the faster ssd, and larger/less used would be moved to the hdd. I know you can create shared volumes in windows, but the speed differences would create some issues I would assume, and it doesn't have drive preference for what gets stored on what drive. Any programs/info/advice would be great! Thanks! (PS. I saw this question, but it was asked three years ago and some solutions have probably changed)

• How do I block my ISP from framing websites?

  I've noticed recently, as of today, that all the websites I visit (except for a specific few sites such as Google) are all put into a frame. I'm not sure what the reason for this is, there are no ads displayed and everything appears normal. The only reason I found out is because the headers weren't loading correctly and none of the page titles showed up properly - I quickly checked the source code and saw that instead of the source of the page I was expecting to see, there was a single line with a frame. I first thought maybe somekind of trojan, but after going through various checks I've determined it's my ISP and/or somekind of Internet Registry (I traced the IP shown in the source code) What can be done to prevent this frame, short of using a VPN? I feel like I am being spied on. PS: I'm located in South Korea.

• No SATA drives after PSU Upgrade

  I know this sounds a lot like this but I just confirmed that my MBR is fine as well as the SSD drive in question. What happened: I upgraded my be-quiet 700w PSU to the 1000w dark power pro. When I tried booting the system and none of the drives (all SATA) were detected, resulting in the "Boot device failure" error. After that I unplugged all but the boot drive, triple checked that all cables were in fact nice and tight inside their sockets, replaced both e-SATA and power cables ; still with the same outcome. Finally I reconnected my old PSU and sure enough the PC booted without any hassle (except of course for the direful construction that is currently occupying my desk). Does anybody have any advice on how to proceed? Surely, it is possible the PSU is faulty but are there other explanations? • samsung netbook OS for clean install

  Hello - I recently had a problem with a corrupted registry on a samsung N120. When all else failed i reformatted the drive. However having bought the machine with windows home ed pre-installed, I didn't have original windows disck for the clean install. So I managed to install another edition of windows XP (PRO this time). Now windows opens, but several key functions are missing. e.g.: screen resolution - will not allow me any but 800x600 resolution native buttons - such as the fn + screen brightness is not working at all. Any suggestions please? ? Is there a way to get the samsung OS online (since I do have the manufacturer's/installed product key)? thanks PS: It has been my intention to install ubuntu, but i need to know i will not lose functions like screen brightness, volume, and the trackpad's scrolling function. I'd be happy to bypass the windows option if i was sure to have full keyboard/samsung functionality

  The question sounds easy but I could not find a solution using google search. Maybe you have an idea: I am searching for the Firefox setting to bookmark always to the toolbar. If I click CTRL+D the default "Folder" is "Bookmarks Menu". I'd like to have it always "Bookmarks Toolbar", without the need of changing it every time. • 1TB HDD making strange noise (not a common one)

  I built a new PC some days ago, and everything seems perfect, except that the 1 TB HDD I cloned from my old 500 GB HDD is making a deep weird sound. First of all, every time I access the disk, I hear a deep sound, and when the PC is turning on, I hear some clicking (the rapid clicking is my mouse, I'm opening and closing folders to trigger the vibrating deep weird sound I'm describing). I'm using this 1TB disk for data mainly (I use a SSD as the OS). As background information, the disk is a seagate barracuda 7200 rpm which was RMAd and replaced with a refurbished one. Maybe the refurbished disks make these noises? should I worry about my data? (although the disk is working normal and passed a seagatetools short generic test? Thanks!   I am running my domain on a vps and I have virtualmin and webmin access. In my php files, I need to record the current time by using mysql NOW() when a row is inserted. I changed the timezone from the php configuration on webmin, but the database function NOW() is still using the default timezone. How can I change the database timezone? PS: I run mysql command to change timezone on webmin, but it gave me the error: Failed to execute SQL : SQL SET time_zone = 'America/New_York'; failed : Unknown or incorrect time zone: 'America/New_York'

  Often when using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) you will find there is more than one way of accomplishing a task and that the most obvious method of doing so might not be the optimal one. In the video below I demonstrate this by way of an experiment using SSIS’s Flat File Source component; I show different ways that you can pull data from a flat file into the SSIS dataflow and also how the nature of the data itself can influence your choice as to how this task should be accomplished. • Box Selection and Multi-Line Editing with VS 2010

  This is the twenty-second in a series of blog posts I’m doing on the VS 2010 and .NET 4 release. I’ve already covered some of the code editor improvements in the VS 2010 release.  In particular, I’ve blogged about the Code Intellisense Improvements, new Code Searching and Navigating Features, HTML, ASP.NET and JavaScript Snippet Support, and improved JavaScript Intellisense.  Today’s blog post covers a small, but nice, editor improvement with VS 2010 – the ability to use “Box Selection” when performing multi-line editing.  This can eliminate keystrokes and enables some slick editing scenarios. Follow me at: twitter.com/scottgu] Box Selection Box selection is a feature that has been in Visual Studio for awhile (although not many people knew about it).  It allows you to select a rectangular region of text within the code editor by holding down the Alt key while selecting the text region with the mouse.  With VS 2008 you could then copy or delete the selected text. VS 2010 now enables several more capabilities with box selection including: Text Insertion: Typing with box selection now allows you to insert new text into every selected line Paste/Replace: You can now paste the contents of one box selection into another and have the content flow correctly Zero-Length Boxes: You can now make a vertical selection zero characters wide to create a multi-line insert point for new or copied text These capabilities can be very useful in a variety of scenarios.  Some example scenarios: change access modifiers (private->public), adding comments to multiple lines, setting fields, or grouping multiple statements together. • I have only two languages on my resume - how bad is this?

  Hi there! I have a question that can be best answered here, given the vast experience some of you guys have! I am going to finish my bachelor's degree in CS and let's face it, I am just comfortable with C++ and Python. C++ - I have no experience to show for and I can't quote the C++ standard like some of the guys on SO do but yet I am comfortable with the language basics and the stuff that mostly matters. With Python, I have demonstrated work experience with a good company, so I can safely put that. I have never touched C, though I have been meaning to do it now. So I cannot write C on my resume because I have not done it ever. Sure I can finish K & R and get a sense of the language in a month, but I don't feel like writing it cause that would be being unfaithful to myself. So the big question is, are two languages on a a resume considered OK or that is usually a bad sign? Most resumes I have seen mention lots of languages and hence my question. Under the language section of my resume, I just mention: C++ and Python and that kinda looks empty! What are your views on this and what do you feel about such a situation? PS: I really don't want to write every single library or API I am familiar with. Or should I?

• Flixel - Animated Tilemaps

  I am using Flixel 2.55 and I am trying to animate a tilemap. I found this piece of code that apparently enables the use of sprites as tiles. From what I understand, this loops over the tilemap's graphic and replaces the tile's pixels with the sprite's pixels each time they change. I have implemented the class and it's working, but not completely; the tiles get replaced, but do not animate unless the camera moves. Here's the relevant parts from LevelLoader.as, which only instantiates the AnimatedTilemaps (piece of code from forum) and pushes sprites to the array. // AnimatedTile is just an extended FlxSprite private var _waterTop1:AnimatedTile; // Create ground tilemap _groundTilemap = new AnimatedTilemap(); _groundTilemap.loadMap(_rawXML.Ground, Assets.OverworldGround, 8, 8); FlxG.state.add(_groundTilemap); _waterTop1 = new AnimatedTile(8, 8, Assets.WaterTop, 100); // .Animate only adds and plays an animation, with a startAtFrame param. _waterTop1.Animate('run', [0...47], 10, true, 0); Now, it seems as though the sprites are updating. I tried tracing the update()s, and they are running for both the sprites and the tilemap. The sprites are even changing frames. Using only AnimatedTiles and hard placing them (giving a x and y) works and animates. What troubles me is that they only update when the camera moves. I've been on this for a week now and can't seem to put my finger on what's wrong. I am also open to other solutions to have animates tiles in a tilemap. If other details are needed, just ask. • Matchmaking algorithm with a set of filters

  I'm looking for matchmaking algorithm for 1x1 online game. Players must be matched not by their skill or level, as usual, but by some specific filters. Each player sends request, where he specifies some set of parameters (generally, 2-4 parameters). If some parameter is specified, player can be matched only with those who has sent this parameter with exactly the same value, or those who hasn't specified this parameter. I need this algorithm to be thread-safe and preferably fast. It would be great if it'll work for 3-4 or even more parameters, but also I'm looking for algorithm that works with only one parameter (in my case it's game bet). Also I'd appreciate ideas on how to implement or improve this algorithm on my server platform - ASP.NET. One more problem I'm facing is that finding match can't be executed right after user sends request, because if other user sends request before matching for previous is finished, they won't be matched even is they possibly could. So it seems that match finding should be started on schedule, and I need help on how to optimize it and how to choose time interval for starting new match finding. P.S. I've also posted this question on stackoverflow

• Update on ASP.NET MVC 3 RC2 (and a workaround for a bug in it)

  Last week we published the RC2 build of ASP.NET MVC 3.  I blogged a bunch of details about it here. One of the reasons we publish release candidates is to help find those last “hard to find” bugs. So far we haven’t seen many issues reported with the RC2 release (which is good) - although we have seen a few reports of a metadata caching bug that manifests itself in at least two scenarios: Nullable parameters in action methods have problems: When you have a controller action method with a nullable parameter (like int? – or a complex type that has a nullable sub-property), the nullable parameter might always end up being null - even when the request contains a valid value for the parameter. [AllowHtml] doesn’t allow HTML in model binding: When you decorate a model property with an [AllowHtml] attribute (to turn off HTML injection protection), the model binding still fails when HTML content is posted to it. Both of these issues are caused by an over-eager caching optimization we introduced very late in the RC2 milestone.  This issue will be fixed for the final ASP.NET MVC 3 release.  Below is a workaround step you can implement to fix it today. Workaround You Can Use Today You can fix the above issues with the current ASP.NT MVC 3 RC2 release by adding one line of code to the Application_Start() event handler within the Global.asax class of your application: The above code sets the ModelMetaDataProviders.Current property to use the DataAnnotationsModelMetadataProvider.  This causes ASP.NET MVC 3 to use a meta-data provider implementation that doesn’t have the more aggressive caching logic we introduced late in the RC2 release, and prevents the caching issues that cause the above issues to occur.  You don’t need to change any other code within your application.  Once you make this change the above issues are fixed.  You won’t need to have this line of code within your applications once the final ASP.NET MVC 3 release ships (although keeping it in also won’t cause any problems). • Software for "High-level" source code (C++) Management

  after a lot of small-medium projects, I have a lot of libraries and test programs here and there. Also, I must admit that some of the "best practices" I learnt are not that "good" IMHO. In particular, documenting your code and making a "high-level" documentation is not useful in practice: High-level documentation are not maintain up to date = I prefer to read the source code directly; Browsing generated developer documentation is a pain (IMHO) = I prefer to read the source code directly. For that reason, I am looking for a tool who could help me organize all my source code directories in a more "readable manner". What I need is a tool which: Maintains an UML diagram from C++ source code. I don't need source code generation from UML; USE CASE: I am in this super-tool, I notice a design issue, I change the source code, when I get back, the UML diagram is updated; Maintains easily browsable call graphs; Lists references to methods, variables, etc. For example, when I want to see where/when a method is called; Helps writing pseudo-code from C++; Embeds a nice C++ source code browser; Is Open Source would be great; Works at least on Win7. The focus of this tool should be to browse source code to understand what's going on. For example, when you have a newcomer and you need him to go through source code. Do you know any great tool? Thanks in advance. PS: please do not answer doxygen (great tool however).
