• If I were in a Silverlight focus group, here is ten things I would say.

  Silverlight is a great product right off the shelf. I use it, love it and spend a lot of time helping the community understand it. This however, doesn’t mean that I don’t think that it can get better. If I were invited to a Microsoft Focus Group about Silverlight here is 10 things I would say:  We need more navigation templates. I’ve found (4) templates that Microsoft has released (Cosmo, Windows 7, Accent and JetPack). This number needs to be around 16. In order to get more people developing for Silverlight, we need to give them a variety of templates to get them off the ground quickly. Silverlight needs to ship with the next version of Windows. At least version 4 needs to be pre-installed on Windows going forward. It’s small, in its own sandbox and I cannot find a reason for it not to be included. Silverlight needs to run on more platforms.  iOS and Android are the key here. I think Microsoft should shoot for Android first since I believe Android will take the lead in the mobile market (at least for the short-term). It would also be great to see Microsoft use Silverlight as the focus on their new tablets / “AppleTV”. I would even invest in getting it working with Kinect. When creating a new project in Silverlight, we should have the option to create a Unit Test. Most Silverlight developers are not unit testing. If this is surprising to you then you need to get out and talk to more developers. I partially blame this on Microsoft. When you create a new ASP.NET MVC application, you simply put a check to create a Unit Test project. We need the same thing for Silverlight. We should steer the developer into the right direction. Design patterns such as MVVM need to be easier to implement in Silverlight solutions.  I’d go so far as to say that MVVM Light should ship with Visual Studio. With the project / item templates and code snippets, Laurent puts you into the right direction. This is the way that it should have been. Easy for the 9-5 developer to grasp. I believe the majority of developers use code behind because that’s what is in all the demos provided by Microsoft. They are not trying to write sucky code it is that they simply don’t know a better way.  The XAP Files should be obfuscated/unused references deleted by default when in “Release” mode. A better Silverlight experience starts with a smaller XAP file. The less that a user has to download is the better, even with the majority of people on broadband. I would also recommend built-in obfuscation by Microsoft. People are paranoid that they can rename the .zip and run it through reflector. Get rid of the boring install experiences. Here is a great write up on what I’m talking about. The default “Install Silverlight” and “Loading screens” suck. They suck bad. We need a choice of templates that a professional designer has created.  Silverlight needs to supports more image formats. For example: it would be great to use .gif’s without converting them to .png.    Switching between Blend 4 and VS2010 to develop a Silverlight application is a pain. Probably one of the biggest issues that I can’t think of a good solution for. It would be nice if VS2012 had the best of both worlds and you never have to leave VS. We need reporting controls with SSRS included with the Silverlight Toolkit. I can’t think of another control that we need built into the toolkit. It would also be helpful to have export to .xls, .pdf and .doc included with the control. I hope that this post will at least get a few people talking. The most important things I want this series to answer is : What is it?  Why do I care? How do I do it? I hope that you enjoy this series. Let’s get started: Tip/Trick #16) What is it? Find out version information about Silverlight and which WebKit it is using by going to http://issilverlightinstalled.com/scriptverify/. Why do I care? I’ve had those users that its just easier to give them a site and say copy/paste the line that says User Agent in order to troubleshoot a Silverlight problem. I’ve also been debugging my own Silverlight applications and needed an easy way to determine if the plugin is disabled or not. How do I do it: Simply navigate to http://issilverlightinstalled.com/scriptverify/ and hit the Verify button. An example screenshot is located below: Results from Chrome 7 Results from Internet Explorer 8 (With Silverlight Disabled) Tip/Trick #17) What is it? Use Lambdas whenever you can. Why do I care?  It is my personal opinion that code is easier to read using Lambdas after you get past the syntax. To see the updates please exit and restart the application"); } } To me this style forces me to look for the other Method to see what the code is actually doing. The style located below is much easier to read in my opinion and does the exact same thing. void MainPage_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { //Check and see if we have a newer .XAP file on the server Application.Current.CheckAndDownloadUpdateAsync(); Application.Current.CheckAndDownloadUpdateCompleted += (s, e) => { if (e.UpdateAvailable) { MessageBox.Show( "An update has been installed. To see the updates please exit and restart the application"); } }; } Tip/Trick #18) What is it? Prevent development Web Service references from breaking when Visual Studio auto generates a new port number. Why do I care?  We have all been there, we are developing a Silverlight Application and all of a sudden our development web services break. We check and find out that the local port number that Visual Studio assigned has changed and now we need up to update all of our service references. We need a way to stop this. How do I do it: This can actually be prevented with just a few mouse click. Right click on your web solution and goto properties. Click the tab that says, Web. You just need to click the radio button and specify a port number. Now you won’t be bothered with that anymore. Tip/Trick #19) What is it? You can disable the Close Button a ChildWindow. Why do I care?  I wouldn’t blog about it if I hadn’t seen it. Devs trying to override keystrokes to prevent users from closing a Child Window. How do I do it: A property exist on the ChildWindow called “HasCloseButton”, you simply change that to false and your close button is gone. You can delete the “Cancel” button and add some logic to the OK button if you want the user to respond before proceeding. Tip/Trick #20) What is it? Cleanup your XAML. Why do I care?  By removing unneeded namespaces, not naming all of your controls and getting rid of designer markup you can improve code quality and readability. How do I do it: (This is a 3 in one tip) Remove unused Designer markup: 1) Have you ever wondered what the following code snippet does? xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" d:DesignWidth="640" d:DesignHeight="480" This code is telling the designer to do something special with this page in “Design mode” Specifically the width and the height of the page. When its running in the browser it will not use this information and it is actually ignored by the XAML parser. In other words, if you don’t need it then delete it. 2) If you are not using a namespace then remove it. In the code sample below, I am using Resharper which will tell me the ones that I’m not using by the grayed out line below. If you don’t have resharper you can look in your XAML and manually remove the unneeded namespaces. 3) Don’t name an control unless you actually need to refer to it in procedural code. If you name a control you will take a slight performance hit that is totally unnecessary if its not being called. <TextBlock Height="23" Text="TextBlock" />   That is the end of the series. • YouTube SEO: Video Optimization

  SEO optimization is still regarded as one of the primary tools in the digital marketing kit. However and wherever a potential customer is conducting a search, brands want their content to surface in the top results. Makes sense. But without a regular flow of good, relevant content, your SEO opportunities run shallow. We know from several studies video is one of the most engaging forms of content, so why not make sure that in addition to being cool, your videos are helping you win the SEO game? Keywords:-Decide what search phrases make the most sense for your video. Don’t dare use phrases that have nothing to do with the content. You’ll make people mad.-Research those keywords to see how competitive they are. Adjust them so there are still lots of people searching for it, but there are not as many links showing up for it.-Search your potential keywords and phrases to see what comes up. It’s amazing how many people forget to do that. Video Title: -Try to start and/or end with your keyword.-When you search on YouTube, visual action words tend to come up as suggested searches. So try to use action words. Video Description: -Lead with a link to your site (include http://). -Don’t stuff this with your keyword. It leads to bad writing and it won’t work anyway. This is where you convince people to watch, so write for humans. Use some showmanship. -At the end, do a call to action (subscribe, see the whole playlist, visit our social channels, etc.) Video Tags:-Don’t over-tag. 5-10 tags per video is plenty. -If you’re compelled to have more than 10, that means you should probably make more videos specifically targeting all those keywords. Find Linking Pals:-45% of videos are discovered on video sites. But 44% are found through links on blogs and sites.-Write a blog about your video’s content, then link to the video in it. -A good site for finding places to guest blog is myblogguest.com-Once you find good linking partners, they’ll link to your future videos (as long as they’re good and you’re returning the favor). Tap the Power of Similar Videos:-Use Video Reply to associate your video with other topic-related videos. That’s when you make a video responding to or referencing a video made by someone else. Content:-Again, build up a portfolio of videos, not just one that goes after 30 keywords.-Create shorter, sequential videos that pull them deeper into the content and closer to a desired final action.-Organize your video topics separately using Playlists. Playlists show up as a whole in search results like individual videos, so optimize playlists the same as you would for a video. Meta Data:-Too much importance is placed on it. It accounts for only 15% of search success.-YouTube reads Captions or Transcripts to determine what a video is about. If you’re not using them, you’re missing out.-You get the SEO benefit of captions and transcripts whether the viewers has them toggled on or not. Promotion:-This accounts for 25% of search success.-Promote the daylights out of your videos using your social channels and digital assets. Don’t assume it’s going to magically get discovered. -You can pay to promote your video. This could surface it on the YouTube home page, YouTube search results, YouTube related videos, and across the Google content network. Community:-Accounts for 10% of search success.-Make sure your YouTube home page is a fun place to spend time. Carefully pick your featured video, and make sure your Playlists are featured. -Participate in discussions so users will see you’re present. The volume of ratings/comments is as important as the number of views when it comes to where you surface on search. Video Sitemaps:-As with a web site, a video sitemap helps Google quickly index your video.-Google wants to know title, description, play page URL, the URL of the thumbnail image you want, and raw video file location.-Sitemaps are xml files you host or dynamically generate on your site. Once you’ve made your sitemap, sign in and submit it using Google webmaster tools. Just as with the broadcast and cable TV channels, putting a video out there is only step one. • How to enable gzip HTTP compression on Windows Azure dynamic content

  Hi all, I've been trying unsuccessfully to enable gzip HTTP compression on my Windows Azure hosted WCF Restful service which returns JSON only from GET and POST requests. I have tried so many things that I would have a hard time listing all of them, and I now realise I have been working with conflicting information (regarding old version of azure etc) so think it best to start with a clean slate! I am working with Visual Studio 2008, using the February 2010 tools for Visual Studio. So, according to the following link, HTTP compression has now been enabled .. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff436045.aspx ... and I've used the advice at the following page (the URL compression advice only), but I get no compression. http://blog.smarx.com/posts/iis-compression-in-windows-azure <urlCompression doStaticCompression="true" doDynamicCompression="false" dynamicCompressionBeforeCache="true" /> It doesn't help that I don't know what the difference is between urlCompression and httpCompression. I've tried to find out but to no avail! Could the fact that the tools for Visual Studio were released before the version of Azure which supports compression be a problem? I read somewhere that with the latest tools, you can choose which version of Azure OS you want to use when you publish ... but I don't know if that's true, and if it is, I can't find where to choose. Could I be using a pre-http enabled version? I've also tried blowery http compression module, but no results. Does any one have any up-to-date advice on how to achieve this? i.e. advice that relates to the current version of the Azure OS. Cheers! Steven

• MSDeploy doesn't deploy to remote server using MSBuild and Visual Studio 2010

  I'm currently running Visual Studio Team System 2010 RC and I'm trying to get the Build Service setup to build my solution and deploy 3 web applications in it. I've created a custom build configuration called Integration and I've setup the "IIS Web site/application name to use on the destination server" on the Package/Publish tab of the Properties for each of the web applications. In my Build Definition I've set the following arguments: /p:DeployOnBuild=True /p:DeployTarget=MSDeployPublish /p:MSDeployPublishMethod=InProc /p:MsDeployServiceUrl=http://my-server-name:8172/msdeploy.axd /p:EnablePackageProcessLoggingAndAssert=True However, when I run the build I get the following error, for all three web applications: Updating setAcl (RightContent). C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\Web\Microsoft.Web.Publishing.targets(3481,5): error : Web deployment task failed. (Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation.) I don't think this is my actual problem though. This error is occuring after the following entry in the log: Updating setAcl This is what's causing the error message, but it appears that MSDeploy is trying to deploy to the local IIS on the Build server, not the server I specified with the MsDeployServiceUrl parameter. After looking at the targets file at C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\Web\Microsoft.Web.Publishing.targets, I added the EnablePackageProcessLoggingAndAssert, which adds extra logging. The log shows an emptry string for the value of MsDeployServiceUrl. I also noticed in the target that MsDeployServiceUrl has a lowercase s, which is somewhat confusing because the task name MSDeployPublish has an uppercase S. I tried using it using uppercase, then again using lowercase, but neither worked. A couple other things to note: My build service is running as NETWORK SERVICE. The server I'm trying to deploy to is on another domain. I also tried adding /p:username=mydomain\myusername /p:password=mypassword to the MSBuild paramter list, but that didn't help. Does anyone know if I'm supplying the correct parameters? Or provide me with the correct ones? Thanks

• Testing movie with Flash IDE fails to load file from localhost

  Hi, I'm just wondering if anybody can help me with my simple but frustrating problem. I have created an SWF that loads an XML file from http://localhost/flash/Projects/MEL/Quiz/Quiz/bin/xml/quiz.xml, but I get this error when running the movie using Test Movie in the Flash IDE. Error #2044: Unhandled ioError:. text=Error #2032: Stream Error. URL: http://localhost/flash/Projects/MEL/Quiz/Quiz/bin/xml/quiz.xml at Main/loadConfig()[D:\www\webroot\flash\Projects\MEL\Quiz\Quiz\src\Main.as:126] at Main/configLoadError()[D:\www\webroot\flash\Projects\MEL\Quiz\Quiz\src\Main.as:143] at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent() at flash.net::URLLoader/onComplete() The error I get if I handle the exception is: [IOErrorEvent type="ioError" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2 text="Error #2032: Stream Error. URL: http://localhost/flash/Projects/MEL/Quiz/Quiz/bin/xml/quiz.xml"] Trouble is running the SWF in a browser locally does work, it only throws these errors in the Flash IDE. I have tried a adding wildcard crossdomain.xml file in my root web directory and setting the SWF publish properties for local playback security to Allow network only, but neither of these have solved my problem. I know Windows 7 handles localhost name resolution differently compared to previous versions of Windows but I have even added 127.0.0.1 localhost to my hosts file to no avail. Can anyone shed any light on this issue?

• How do I properly host a WCF Data Service in IIS? Why am I getting errors?

  I'm playing around with WCF Data Services (ADO.NET Data Services). I have an entity framework model pointed at the AdventureWorks database. When I debug my svc file from within Visual Studio, it works great. I can say /awservice.svc/Customers and get back the ATOM feed I expect. If I publish the service (hosted in an ASP.NET web application) to IIS7, the same query string returns a 500 fault. The root svc page itself works as expected and successfully returns ATOM. The /Customers path fails. • ASP.NET MVC in a subfolder (only) on godaddy

  Okay, I have read many of the routing posts concerning putting asp.net mvc on godaddy. However, I have not come to a solution to my current problem. I am trying to publish an ASP.NET MVC application to a subfolder on godaddy. I have upgraded the account to use IIS 7 and I have included the MVC dlls in \bin\ deployment method. However, I suspect that my route is not correct. Currently, my routes are set up with the standard out of the box route: public static void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes) { routes.IgnoreRoute("{resource}.axd/{*pathInfo}"); routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = "" } // Parameter defaults ); } I have a subdomain set up so that it looks like office.domain.com. The subdomain is pointing at a folder "/office/" which is right off the root folder. (There is not an MVC application installed in the root folder). All of my application has been placed in this 'office' folder. When I hover over the links however, the 'office' portion shows up in the link as well. e.g. Hovering over a link to the customer controller, index action yields "office.domain.com/office/Customer" as the target. This link then gets a 404 when I attempt to go to it. What should my route be to fix this? Is there something I have neglected in setting up the subdomain in godaddy? Is this something I just can't do in godaddy's domain management "tool". Do I need to set up a virtual directory for this instead of just a directory? Update: I changed the IIS settings in godaddy to use integrated pipeline mode, per this discussion and I am no longer getting 404 errors. The application worked just fine as suggested it would.

• Ado.net dataservices BeginExecuteBatch call works on development fails on production server with Obj

  We have an ado.net dataservices 1.0 call that is being passed to a [WebGet] service operation as a batch through BeginExecuteBatch. Everything works perfectly on our development server - we have the project configured to use IIS instead of the cassini web server to make it as close to our production server as we can. When we publish to the production server, all the service operations work perfectly except the batch call, which fails with Object does not match target type. . I have not been able to find any cause for this. I can even run a single non-batch style GET operation against the [WebGet] service by copying the URL used in the batch and pasting it in a browser. I have not been able to find any information to help me solve this - any guidance would be most appreciated. Thanks, Mike M. • ASP.NET / Active Directory - Supporting auto login for domain users

  I am developing a simple ASP.NET website that will run on the intranet on a WS2008(IIS7) box and respond to users running XP/IE8. Everything is domain connected and I am trying to automatically login the users much like SharePoint does. On my dev machine (XP), when running the site through VS, everything works. I can pickup on the user perfectly. I am using the following settings: <authentication mode="Windows"/> <identity impersonate="true"/> <anonymousIdentification enabled="false"/> <authorization> <allow users="*"/> <deny users="?"/> </authorization> However, when I publish to the WS2008 box, it doesn't work. Clearly I am missing a setting in IIS7 to support this. I have the following set for Authentication on the site: Anon Auth - Enabled ASP.NET Impersonation - Enabled Basic Auth - Disabled Forms Auth - Disabled Windows Auth - Disabled What am I missing?   Hi, I'm using the Composite Application Library's event aggregator, and would like to create a mock for the IEventAggregator interface, for use in my unit test. • Printer Redirection from 2003 Terminal Server to 2008 Terminal Server

  Our environment is a terminal server cluster (Win2003 servers) that everyone connects to do do their work. I have set up a new Win2008 R2 machine with the intention of using it to publish our main application to the TS farm. The idea was to keep this server dedicated to one application to avoid driver/dll conflicts with other software. I created a RemoteApp on the new server and made an .rdp file and placed it on the desktop of our TS farm servers. The problem I am running into is that when I connect to the RemoteApp, it doesn't show the printers that are installed on the TS server I am connecting from. We have over 20 printers installed on our TS servers, each with different drivers and permissions. I really do not want to reinstall all of these on the RemoteApp server so I was hoping Printer Redirection would handle this. It would appear that because the RDP client for Server 2003 x64 is 6.0, that version doesn't support the Easy Print feature (requires 6.1). I can't find any newer version on the MS site to download for Win2003 x64. How can I get the printers on the TS farm machine to redirect so they are viewed by the RemoteApp machine?

The actual error happens when i try to just create a word application object Dim oWord As New Word.Application Using Visual Studio 2008 and VB.NET 3.5. I made a reference to the "Microsoft Word 10.0 Object Library" and i see Interop.Word.dll file in the bin directory. Using MS Office 2003 on development machine and Windows Server 2003 Still fairly new to .NET and don't have much knowledge about window server, but "UnauthorizedAccessException" sounds like a permission issue. I'm wondering if someone could point me in the right direction on what i might need to do to give my little application access to use word. Thank you so much for your time.

• Maven WTP webapp with maven-eclipse-plugin but without m2eclipse

  I use the eclipse:eclipse goal to generate an Eclipse Project environment. The deployment works fine. The goal creates the var classpath entries for all needed dependencies. With m2eclipse there was the Maven Container which defines an export folder which was WEB-INF/lib for me. But i don't want to rely on m2eclipse so i don't want to use it anymore. the class path entries which are generated by eclipse:eclipse goal don't have such a export folder. While booting the servlet container with WTP it publishes all resources and classes except the libraries to the context. Whats missing to publish the needed libs, or isn't that possible without m2eclipse integration? I've deployed the webpage and the WCF webservice to that machine. • "Pretty" Continuous Integration for Python

  This is a slightly.. vain question, but BuildBot's output isn't particularly nice to look at.. For example, compared to.. phpUnderControl Hudson CruiseControl.rb ..and others, BuildBot looks rather.. archaic I'm currently playing with Hudson, but it is very Java-centric (although with this guide, I found it easier to setup than BuildBot, and produced more info) Basically: is there any Continuous Integration systems aimed at python, that produce lots of shiney graphs and the likes? Update: After trying a few alternatives, I think I'll stick with Hudson. Integrity was nice and simple, but quite limited. I think Buildbot is better suited to having numerous build-slaves, rather than everything running on a single machine like I was using it. Setting Hudson up for a Python project was pretty simple: Download Hudson from https://hudson.dev.java.net/ Run it with java -jar hudson.war Open the web interface on the default address of http://localhost:8080 Go to Manage Hudson, Plugins, click "Update" or similar Install the Git plugin (I had to set the git path in the Hudson global preferences) Create a new project, enter the repository, SCM polling intervals and so on Install nosetests via easy_install if it's not already In the a build step, add nosetests --with-xunit --verbose Check "Publish JUnit test result report" and set "Test report XMLs" to **/nosetests.xml That's all that's required. You can setup email notifications, and the plugins are worth a look. A few I'm currently using for Python projects: SLOCCount plugin to count lines of code (and graph it!) - you need to install sloccount separately Violations to parse the PyLint output (you can setup warning thresholds, graph the number of violations over each build) Cobertura can parse the coverage.py output. Nosetest can gather coverage while running your tests, using nosetests --with-coverage (this writes the output to **/coverage.xml)

  Please suggest how should I approach these requirements. What ready-to-use solutions (modules) are best suited to achieve something like this: What I need is an image library that has searchable, tagged images that are already resized when we publish them. If the author searches the library and the image he needs isn’t there, he can upload one and have it added to the index. The important thing is that images in the library can be sorted into three categories: News images, top story images and feature images so that, over time, we don’t end up with hundreds of images crammed into one folder, thus making browsing a pain (and to prevent someone from something like: Searching for a keyword so they can find an image for the news, picking an image, and then seeing it’s 1600X. 1200). Also, I need something which will assemble thumbnail galleries easily. I don’t want to have to go to the image library, get a URL, go back, paste it in, etc. I should be able to pick, say, 8 images and say “create gallery”. How this objective is achieved is flexible, but I am looking for a shortcut to get around assembling screenshot galleries by hand.

• IIS 7 can't connect to SQLServer 2008

  Sorry if this is the most seen question on the web, but this is my turn. I am trying to publish my asp.net mvc app on IIS 7 under MS Sql Server 2008. I am on a Windows Server 2008 virtual machine. I get the following classical error: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) Under SQLServer, Allow remote connections is checked. My connection string is: Data Source=.\MSSQLSERVER;Initial Catalog=mydbname;User Id=sa;Password=mypassword I also tried with no username/password and "Integrated Security=true". There is only one instance of SQLServer installed. I tried to access my web page locally and remotely. There is no active firewall on the virtual machine. Thx for your help.

• facebook connect: thumbnail images broken up in FB.Connect.streamPublish pop-up prompt, and on wall

  hi there! I'm using facebook connect so that users can publish comments they are leaving on my site on their facebook wall as well. It works as intended, except that in the confirmation pop up, the thumbnail image i provide is broken. Looking at the source, I can see that facebook prepended my image url like this: from: http://www.mysite.com/path/to/my/image.jpg to: http://platform.ak.fbcdn.net/www/app_full_proxy.php?app=303377111175&v=1&size=z&cksum=41a391c9f3a6f3dde2ede9892763c943&src=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mysite.com%2Fpath%2Fto%2Fmy%2image.jpg The image on the facebook user's wall has the same prepended url, and is also broken for a couple of minutes, after which it's showing up correctly. But obviously, having a broken image in the confirmation window and on your wall for a couple of minutes is not a good experience... Has anybody experienced the same / knows how to work around this issue? Thanks a lot in advance! • iCal file that will update the attendee list?

  So I want to add an iCal file to a web page, so that people can add an event to their calendars. But when I view the event in my calendar (Outlook 2007) I want to see everyone who will be attending. How can I do that? I just started experimenting with this, I used Outlook's Save As to create an iCal file for a single event. That works, I can link to that file and other people can add the event to their calendars. But it doesn't tell me who has added it. • Error in WCF service - Silverlight client communication.

  I created a WCF service and I planned to consume this in a Silverlight application. So I created the WCF service in the Website host project. The service is a simple WCF service that only returns a number - something like a Hello World WCF-SL. So after adding a service reference in the silverlight client project to the Service URI, after calling async the service method (by using the generated proxy), I get the following exception in the callback method: An error occurred while trying to make a request to URI 'http://localhost:4566/SLService.svc'. This could be due to attempting to access a service in a cross-domain way without a proper cross-domain policy in place, or a policy that is unsuitable for SOAP services. You may need to contact the owner of the service to publish a cross-domain policy file and to ensure it allows SOAP-related HTTP headers to be sent. This error may also be caused by using internal types in the web service proxy without using the InternalsVisibleToAttribute attribute. Please see the inner exception for more details. I only created a HelloWorld WCF service with nothing else but a simple method that returns a dumb number and it's hosted on my locally. Must I have clientaccesspolicy.xml or crossdomain.xml? I acces my service locally. Every time I create a new simple/dumb WCF-SL solution, I get this error. I use VS2010 and Silverlight 4. I cannot get a simple/dumb WCF-SL solution working locally. Is there something wrong with the configuration? On another machine in the same network, it does work properly, so I assume something is misconfigured. Any thoughts?
