  • Silverlight change color custom control programatically

    Hi all, I have this Ellipse which I turned into a custom control so i could animate it programatically. However I am having trouble changing it's color. I know about changing a shapes color like this: aRectangle.Fill = new SolidColorBrush(Colors.Blue); However I cannot do this with a custom control. Anyone know how? Thanks.

  • PivotControl item changing behavior in Silverlight Windows Phone 7

    I have an app where the user is sent to a page with a PivotControl. The SelectedIndex is not known until the user navigates to the page. I'm setting the SelectedIndex, but it causes the PivotControl to start on index 0, then flip through to the index I set. This is kind of annoying, and I'd rather just have it go directly to the index I set. Is there some way around this? One hack I thought up was providing the data to pivotControl.ItemsSource in an order such that the item I want the user to start on is index 0 in ItemsSource. But that would be kind of messy, and I'm wondering if there's a more elegant solution.

    I have the following (C#) code namespace A { interface IX { bool Prop { get; set; } } class X : IX { public bool Prop { ... } } // hidden implementation of IX } namespace B { .. A.IX x = ...; object.DataContext = x; object.SetBinding(SomeDependencyProperty, new Binding("Prop")); .. } So I have a hidden implementation of an interface with a property "Prop" and I need to bind to this property in code. My problem is that the binding isn't working unless I make class X public. Is there any way around this problem?

  • C# - Silverlight - Custom control or UserControl ?

    I need a button that is visually completely customizable, but has custom logic to publish events and manage it's visual state based on events it has registered for. When I say visually customizable, I mean I should be able to both create the button in xaml and set it's style by binding to the supplied style. Or I can create an instance of the button and set the style by passing a parameter to an alternate constructor. Or by calling a method on the button class to set the style. I do not plan on substituting the controls template, it should be a button. Can anyone point me to some code samples of this?

  • WPF: Master - detail view with two datagrids and in MVVM

    Hi, I'm trying to write a master - detail control that consists of a master datagrid and the detail datagrid. My scenario was following - I used the SelectedItem and bound it to a property in ModelView. The problem is - the SelectedItem in ViewModel is never used, so I can't get the information which item is selected in a master datagrid and cannot fetch the data for thos selection. The code is below: <toolkit:DataGrid ItemsSource="{Binding}" RowDetailsVisibilityMode="VisibleWhenSelected" SelectedItem="{Binding SelectedItemHandler, Mode=TwoWay}"></toolkit:DataGrid> And in ViewModel private CustomerObjects _selectedItem; public CustomerObjects SelectedItemHandler { get { return _selectedItem; } set { OnPropertyChanged("SelectedItem"); } } The code in SelectedItemHandler is never used. What could be the problem? Should I use another approach to create master - detail in MVVM?

  • WPF ListView as a DataGrid – Part 3

    I have had a lot of great feedback on the blog post about turning the ListView into a DataGrid by creating GridViewColumn objects on the fly. So, in the last 2 parts, I showed a couple of different methods for accomplishing this. Let’s now look at one more and that is use Reflection to extract the properties from a Product, Customer, or Employee object to create the columns. Yes, Reflection is a slower approach, but you could create the columns one time then cache the View object for re-use. Another potential drawback is you may have columns in your object that you do not wish to display on your ListView. But, just because so many people asked, here is how to accomplish this using Reflection.   Figure 1: Use Reflection to create GridViewColumns. Using Reflection to gather property names is actually quite simple. First you need to pass any type (Product, Customer, Employee, etc.) to a method like I did in my last two blog posts on this subject. Below is the method that I created in the WPFListViewCommon class that now uses reflection. When you pass in a Product object as Type, you can now use the GetProperties method and specify, via flags, which properties you wish to return. In the code that I wrote, I am just retrieving the Public properties and only those that are Instance properties. I do not want any static/Shared properties or private properties. GetProperties returns an array of PropertyInfo objects. You can loop through this array and build your GridViewColumn objects by reading the Name property from the PropertyInfo object. Build the Product Screen To populate the ListView shown in Figure 1, you might write code like the following: C#private void CollectionSample(){  Product prod = new Product();   // Setup the GridView Columns  lstData.View =      WPFListViewCommon.CreateGridViewColumns(typeOf(Product));  lstData.DataContext = prod.GetProducts();} VB.NETPrivate Sub CollectionSample()  Dim prod As New Product()   ' Setup the GridView Columns  lstData.View = WPFListViewCommon.CreateGridViewColumns( _       GetType(Product))  lstData.DataContext = prod.GetProducts()End Sub All you need to do now is to pass in a Type object from your Product class that you can get by using the typeOf() function in C# or the GetType() function in VB. That’s all there is to it! Summary There are so many different ways to approach the same problem in programming. That is what makes programming so much fun! In this blog post I showed you how to create ListView columns on the fly using Reflection. This gives you a lot of flexibility without having to write extra code as was done previously.     Hi I've just finished installing Visual Studio 2010 professional onto Vista. But don't seem to have Silverlight 4. If I try to create a new project I can see Silverlight project templates but only seem to be able to target Silverlight 3. Is Silverlight 4 not part of vs2010 pro by default? I also noticed the msbuild targets is missing ie the v4.0 folder doesn't exist at the following folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft\Silverlight\ Any help/thoughts would be much appreciated.     I have seen on many sites the silverlight video player. I noticed that all of them took a URL as the source of the video file. Can a silverlight player play a video file kept locally? I mean a simple HTML file kept in a folder with the xap (say VideoPlayer.xap) and the video (say ABC.avi) file. The html file would contain an object tag.   • How do you apply a Theme to a Silverlight 3 application?

    I am trying to build a Silverlight website, using standard Silverlight controls. I read that Silverlight 3 comes with 9 proffessionally design Themes. I really want to use them, but everywhere I look just talks about making you own theme, or other tangential topics. Can anyone tell me how to apply one of the out-of-the-box themes? Or, if there is any tribal knowledge that those themes suck, where some other standard themes can be found?

  • Silverlight Vs. WPF Vs. Winforms What is good for specifically my purpose?

    I am about to start a new Windows applications and the contenders for the platform are: Windows Forms WPF Silverlight Now my experience with WPF at least in my last application was not very encouraging (the app failed to run on the deployment machines and I had to re-do it in Winforms). So my confidence is shaken here. My app is for mass-distribution (the last version had some 100,000+ installations). So I want to make absolutely sure that my users will be able to use it and enjoy it without any problems. I would love to create a nice interface, going the next step like a Flex or Silverlight, iPhone app, with animations and effects. So I would really like to go with WPF or Silverlight if I can. My needs are Good support for visuals and animation effects. Support for database connectivity. Support for printing (Is there an equivalent of PrintDocument in Silverlight) Must not suffer from deployment troubles. Silverlight is universal, but does it have printing support and good controls toolset? WPF has printing support and a nice toolset, but can I depend on it? Winforms is dated already and is not so impressive, but should I go with it anyway? Your advice would be appreciated

  • IronPython 2.6.1 for .NET 4.0 RC targeting Silverlight?

    Since the 2.6.1 .NET 4.0 RC release of IronPython (found @ http://ironpython.codeplex.com/releases/view/40146) does not include Silverlight binaries I am wondering if anyone has had any success getting it working themselves. I'd assume it would not be too hard to recompile the source against Silverlight but I can't seem to locate it on Codeplex. EDIT: Per the IronPython team, Silverlight 4 is not yet a stable release so no fully compatible binaries have been released.

  • Should I use MEF or Prism for my Silverlight project?

    Hi! My team(3 developers) will be building a Silverlight LOB application. This is the first Silverlight project for us. We've been doing mostly Winforms. We'll be using Silverlight4 / VS2010 / possibly WCF RIA Services, and ASP.NET Web application to handle authentication and host the silverlight pages. We need a way to.. Modularize the silverlight project so we can work in different parts of the application, then integrate them. Dynamically load different parts of the application, so the initial download size of the xap file wouldn't be too large. After some research, I found out that Prism and MEF are possible solutions to these goals. Can you give me advice on which framework to use? or possibly another solution? We don't have much experience on Silverlight and the project needs to be finished in 3 months, so the learning curves for frameworks should be considered. Thank you for reading!   • Binding ComboBoxes to enums... in Silverlight!

    So, the web, and StackOverflow, have plenty of nice answers for how to bind a combobox to an enum property in WPF. But Silverlight is missing all of the features that make this possible :(. For example: You can't use a generic EnumDisplayer-style IValueConverter that accepts a type parameter, since Silverlight doesn't support x:Type. You can't use ObjectDataProvider, like in this approach, since it doesn't exist in Silverlight. You can't use a custom markup extension like in the comments on the link from #2, since markup extensions don't exist in Silverlight. You can't do a version of #1 using generics instead of Type properties of the object, since generics aren't supported in XAML (and the hacks to make them work all depend on markup extensions, not supported in Silverlight). Massive fail! As I see it, the only way to make this work is to either Cheat and bind to a string property in my ViewModel, whose setter/getter does the conversion, loading values into the ComboBox using code-behind in the View. Make a custom IValueConverter for every enum I want to bind to. Are there any alternatives that are more generic, i.e. don't involve writing the same code over and over for every enum I want? I suppose I could do solution #2 using a generic class accepting the enum as a type parameter, and then create new classes for every enum I want that are simply class MyEnumConverter : GenericEnumConverter<MyEnum> {} What are your thoughts, guys?
