• Div not filling width of floated container (css expert needed

  I know there are many variations of this question posted, but none I've found quite provide an answer that works for this case. I basically have two left floated divs. Inside those two divs are div headers and tabled content. I want the Div headers (Hour/Minute) to stretch to the width of the tabled content, but they only do this in FF and Chrome, not IE7. IE7 is my works official browser so the one I need it to work with the most. • .focus() doesn't work on an input while orher attributes works

  I have a classic table / thead / tbody structure, which I add a line at the end of the tbody. The line contains only an input element. The code works in Firefox 3.6 but not in Chrome v5 or IE8. I'm using jQuery 1.4.1. Does not work: $("#" + AJAX_ID).parent().find('tr:last > td:nth-child(2) > input').focus(); Does work: $("#" + AJAX_ID).parent().find('tr:last > td:nth-child(2) > input').css('background-color', 'red'); even setting an ID on the input, and using document.getElementBuId('id').focus() doesn't work.   I am having problems trying to use the regular expression that I used in JavaScript.   At the moment I achieve this using something like this: var myElem = "<tr id='tr-1'><td>content</td></tr>"; $("#myTable").append(myElem); $("#tr-1").click(function() { // blah blah }); Traditionally, when I wasn't using jQuery, I used to do something like this: var myElem = document.createElement(...); var myTable = document.getElementById("myTable"); myTable.appendChild(myElem); myElem.onclick = function() { // blah blah } The thing is, in the second approach I already have a reference to myElem and I don't have to scan the DOM ($("#tr-1")) to find it, like the jQuery approach, and hence it should be much faster especially in big pages. Isn't there a better jQuery-ish way to accomplish this task?

• seeking help with Chrome & Safari not rendering my table stretched to fit its contents...help?

  I have an element on this web page I'm developing where I need my text to conform to the width of an image above it - whose width will always be different - think of captions. I have found numerous references to using a 1px table to force this width sizing behaviour. I am having problems, though with Safari and Chrome "seeing" this instruction - the text ends up as a marginally sized text box sitting behind the image. The problem, as I see it, has to do with the text and images sitting in div's nested within the table. I need the images to sit in a div because of some jquery script I'm using called cycle, which turns a group of images into a slideshow. The problem may have something to do with the script as well. In any case, I have tried a seeming infinite number of combination of floating left and clearing left on all all the divs, changing their positions and widths...nothing works. Anyone have any clues about how to broach this one? I understood that it is a system.object type, but I have no idea what it specifically does or how it works. I want that because of this: "reader" had multiple rows in it, and I want to writeline only specific rows. If anyone can help me on either of those, I'd be grateful.
