• Set default input/output sound

  I have a mac that is hooked into a sound board, I have external sound card that interfaces between the computer and the soundboard, this works great. However, whenever the computer restarts it sets the input & output to the 'internal microphone' and the 'built in output'. I'd like to default to the other soundcard. How can I do this? I'm running OS 10.6.3

• Audio problems with Windows 7 running through Bootcamp

  I've been using (and enjoy using) Windows 7 through bootcamp on my mac for some time now. The only problem I've been having is with the audio, I seem to get a low hissing noise which is more prevalent when wearing headphones. Whilst it's not stopping me from using Windows 7 it's something I'd like fixed. I've tried downloading the latest drivers from Realteks website, but to no avail. Any suggestions?

• Only a Macs can connect to WIFI with WPA-Personal security on.

  I have an odd issue with a Netgear WIFI router, 4 computers, 2 pc laptops with XP and 7 installed, one macbook pro and one older mac mini. With security off everything can connect to the wifi. With WPA-Security on only the macs can connect to the wifi. I've reset the Netgear router, done everything again from scratch, no deal. The PCs just can't connect.

• Browser displays 'Apache is functioning normally' when I enter 'http://you/' in the location bar

  I am on a Mac and when I enter http://you/ in the location bar, it displays 'Apache is functioning normally' no matter which browser (Safari, Firefox, Chrome) I am using. Is this normal? Or could it be that my computer is hacked in some way and is now acting as a server for the hackers? EDIT: I originally wanted to go to the youtube.com, but entered http://you/ by accident and found out this strange behavior.

• How can I unbind a UDP port that has no entry in lsof?

  On my Mac, I have a UDP port that is "already in use", but doesn't have an associated process: sudo netstat -na | grep "udp.*\.500\>" shows udp4 0 0 192.168.50.181.500 *.* udp4 0 0 192.168.29.166.500 *.* sudo lsof doesn't show a process on port 500 (ie sudo lsof -i:500 -P reports nothing). Note I'm using 'sudo' on both commands so it should show all processes. (rebooting works, but looking for something less disruptive) How can I unbind port 500 so I can use it again?

• ssh sessions in xterms freeze for many minutes whenever they disconnect

  If I ssh to a remote machine and then lose internet connectivity, the session freezes. I can't control-c or otherwise abort and go back to my local xterm or terminal prompt but if I wait several minutes it will do so. There must be some way to force it to abort the remote ssh session when connectivity is lost. I'm on a Mac but I believe this happens on cygwin or linux as well.

• How can I combine the input of two Keyboards?

  I use a Stinkyboard Footboard to enter shortcuts with my feet on my mac. This works fine, the Footboard is recognized as another USB keyboard and the shortcuts are working. One thing that is not working is to assign two Keys like ALT + SHIFT to the foot pedal and then add another key like 1 with the keyboard I use with my hands.   I have a mac installer which runs as root with pre and post install bash scripts. At the end of the post install script I launch the application which inherits and opens as root. Is there a way I can lower the permissions back down to the user that ran the installer and then open the app? Or a more hackish way I can set the app to open in some scheduler from the script, which then gets opened by the scheduler which would have the users permissions

• Terrible sound listening to Radio 1 on iPlayer specifically

  Just recently while listening to radio 1 online, the sound quality has become horrible, sounds all crackly and underwater. I've tried reinstalling Flash, and radios 2/3/4 sound fine.   I'm trying to learn PHP and I'm just in the process of installing apache,msql and PHP. I'm on a mac osx 10.7.2 Processor 2.26 GHz intel core 2 due I downloaded: mysql-5.5.18-osx10.6-x86_64.dmg I'm now at the point of setting the root password and when I type in: sudo: mysql_secure_installation it asks me to enter my password, then it says: sudo: mysql_secure_installation: command not found Any help would be appreciated. • Can't connect my 3G to home router umbrella

  I can't connect my 3G iphone to my home router. I added my MAC wifi address (followed those directions to locate it) to the filter of the router. My iphone wifi address appears on the allowed list. However, when I try to connect using my iphone, it shows wi-fi not connected, and the umbrella corporation comes up still locked and asks for a password. We don't have a password set up for our router access at home. I'm not real tech-y so speak plainly...thanks

  Hi I've installed docutils on my Mac OS system following the docutils instructions. I've also done: $ sudo cp tools/buildhtml.py tools/rst2html.py /usr/local/bin However, if I open a command line and type rst2html, I get 'command not found'. If I type rst2html.py, there's no problem, so the Python file itself is on my path. How do I get my system to recognize rst2html as a valid command? Thanks!
