• Error TF31004 when connecting to TFS2008

  I'm trying to connect to a TFS2008 server through Visual Studio 2008 (Tools\Connect to Team Foundation Server) and get this error when trying to add our server: TF31004: Team Foundation encountered an unexpected error while connecting to Team Foundation Server . Wait a few minutes and try again. If the problem persists, contact your Team Foundation Server administrator. Needless to say, waiting doesn't help. I've tried using the ip address instead of the hostname but get the same error. I can log in via a browser, in fact IE and Chrome both SSO me straight in. The server is only used for testing one of our TFS plugins, so doesn't get much real use.

• MS Build Script accepting a list or collection of project names to build and deploy

  I want to create a MS Build script (executed by way of TFS Build Server) that will accept a list of project names that need to be built, unit tested and deployed. The reason is that I want one script to serve many 'like' structured solutions. All the solutions are SOA in nature and share the same framework, project structure and deployment requirements. I've done this in Nant and acheived great success out of having one build file serving 4 solutions - it just accepted a list of web project names to compile and deploy to our test/uat environments. What is the syntax to cycle through a collection of project names suppled as params via MS Build?

• tf14087 Cannot undelete [file] because not all of the deletion is being undeleted

  We are getting this error when we try to merge from a development branch (Dev) back to its parent branch (Main). Main did have some changesets rolled back a few weeks ago which included the deletion of some folders which exist in Dev. We believe this is the source of the problem. What is the best way to resolve this. Main should pretty much match up with Dev but currently it is missing some sub folders. How can I get these folders / files to move from Dev to Main? We are trying to manually resolve the changes but it is a bit of a mess. It hard to believe that TFS makes things this hard to resolve.

  I'm considering moving my code (around 30K LOC) from CPython to Jython, so that I could have better integration with my java code. Is there a checklist or a guide I should look at, to help my with the migration? Does anyone have experience with doing something similar? From reading the Jython site, most of the problems seem too obscure to bother me. I did notice that: thread safety is an issue Unicode support seems to be quite different, which may be a problem for me mysqldb doesn't work and needs to be replaced with zxJDBC Anything else? • how to automate upsizing from Access to SQL Server?

  Hi, I need to automate the migration from an Access (2003) to an SQL Server DB (2005 or 2008). The upsizing should be done automatically as part of a build process. I need that because there are 2 versions of the software, a single user rich client and a web version. Access DB is used for single user to minimize setup effort, SQL Server to improve performance and scaling with many simultanious users. Access should be the "leading" DB, meaning devs do changes in Access DB and those are propagated to the SQL server within the build process. Many changes will occur, so doing it manually is not an option. I am new to the Microsoft world, so I dont know appropriate tools for that. What tools can I use and how? I know how to do it (by clicking) with the upsizing assistant. Perhaps I can automate that somehow? Thanks in advance for your answers. Cheers, Arne

  Hi All, I have my csv file in my public folder, and i'm trying to load it from a migration, but I get a file not found error using this script : ActiveRecord::Base.connection.execute( "load data local infile '#{RAILS_ROOT}/public/muds_variables.csv' into table muds_variables " + "fields terminated by ',' " + "lines terminated by '\n' " + "(variable_name, definition)") I've checked and re-checked the file path, and that's definitely where it lives, I've also tried it just using the file name without any of the path, and a few other combos, but I can't make it work :(. can anyone help me out with this? here's the error : Mysql::Error: File '/home/chris/rails_projects/muds/public/muds_variables.csv' not found (Errcode: 2): load data local infile '/home/chris/rails_projects/muds/public/muds_variables.csv' into table muds_variables fields terminated by ',' lines terminated by ' ' (variable_name, definition) -C

• Source control products that support linked/shared files?

  We're interested in moving from a source control system that supports the concept of shared or linked files. A shared file means: a file modified in one project, is automatically updated changed in every other project that uses that same file. It does this without a developer having to request it, reverse-integrate it, ask for it, or even want it. We're trying to see if any other commonly used source-control systems can meet our needs, and include linked or shared files. My limited research shows that: Team Foundation Server doesn't support sharing files Subversion doesn't support sharing files (including Externals) CVS doesn't support sharing files (including Modules) Anything else? (besides our current source control product, obviously) References Subversion and shared files across repositories/projects? How to share files between CVS projects? Will TFS ever support shared files for projects under source control?

  I have been tasked with coming up with a strategy for branching, merging and releasing over the next 6 months. The complication comes from the fact the we will be running multiple projects all with different code changes and different release dates but approximately the same development start dates. At present we are using VSS for code management, but are aware that it will probably cause some issues and will be migrating to TFS before new development starts. What strategies should I be employing and what things should I be considering before setting a plan down?   Hello I am using mfc to Qt migration and I am showing Qt dialogs in my Mfc app. Is it Ok to deleteLater QWinWidget in its winEvent handler? The thing is that I want all of my open Qt dialogs in My Mfc application to be automatically deleted when the main mfc window is closed. Since WM_DESTROY will be sent for all child windows ( and the Qt widgets too) So I added the following code in QwinWidget winEvent handler : QWinWidget::winEvent(MSG * message, long * result) { ........ if(message->message == WM_DESTROY ) deleteLater(); return false; } Can someone comment this Thanks

• Migrating from SQL Server to firebird: pro and cons

  I am considering the migration for 4 reasons: 1) SQLSERVER installation is a nightmare, expecially for 1-user software (Even if typically I have 3-20 users, sometimes I sell my software to single users: it is incredible to have troubles installing the DB, while installing the applicatino means copying an exe...). (note my max installation is 100 users, but there is no an upper limit). Software installs in 10 seconds, SQLServer in 1 hour. Firebird installation is much easier. 2) SQLSERVER runs on windows server only 3) My customers have all the express edition 4) i am not using any advanced feature, I am now starting using filestream, but the main reason for this is that Express edition has 4/10GB db size limit So these are all Pros of moving to Firebird. Which are the cons? I can also plan to support both platforms, but this will backfire I fear.

  First, I tried to migrate my databases with SQL Server Migration Assistant for MySql and it worked fine. But now, I have some problems with my code. I had this line on MYSQL version : $fct="SELECT * FROM `users` WHERE `USER` LIKE CONVERT( _utf8 '$LOGIN' USING latin1 ) COLLATE latin1_swedish_ci AND `PASS` LIKE CONVERT( _utf8 '$PASS'USING latin1 ) COLLATE latin1_swedish_ci"; This line worked fine but when i try to put this on my SQL Version i get : Error : SQLSTATE[42000]: [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax with the keyword 'mictest'. Now I need to create versions under my production folder: MyTeamProject Trunc Sources Scripts Installations Prod V1.0.0 Sources Scripts Installations V1.1.0 Sources Scripts Installations How can I move the current production to the version 1.0.0 folder, and still keep on the branch relation from trunc to v1.0.0 (previously "Prod")? If i'll move one folder at a time (Sources, Scripts & Installations), I'll have the branch relation to the specific folders, and not on the entire Trunc. Any Idea?

• How do I mock a custom field that is deleted so that south migrations run?

  I have removed an app that contained a couple of custom fields from my project. Now when I try to run my migrations I get ImportError, naturally. These fields were very basic customizations like below: from django.db.models.fields import IntegerField class SomeField(IntegerField): def get_internal_type(self): return "SomeField" def db_type(self, connectio=None): return 'integer' def clean(self, value): # some custom cleanup pass So, none of them contain any database level customizations. When I removed this code, I've created migrations so the subsequent migration all ran fine. But when I try to run them on a pre-deletion database I realized my mistake. I can re-create a bare-bones app and make these imports work, but Ideally I would like to know if South has a mechanism to resolve these issues? Or is there any best practises? It would be cool if I could solve these issues just by modifying my migrations and not touching the codebase. (Django 1.3, South 0.7.3)

  We're considering migrating a WinForms app to WPF, but are just starting on the WPF learning curve now that 4.0 is out. What I'd like to do is migrate our application commands (cut, copy, paste, etc) to a WPF-like command-binding system, while still running as a WinForms app - but in such a way as to make the migration easy when we go ahead with WPF. The ideal approach would be to implement our commands using the WPF command interfaces, classes and events directly, and simply hooking the WinForms events up to them with our own dispatcher. Has anyone tried something like this or know if it might be possible?

  In our codebase we are using the following structure, using TFS / - Build - Development - Dev1 - Dev2 - Main - Releases - Rel1 - Rel2 The Development and Releases sections contain branches off main. The Build section sits outside the branching. Within each of the branches there is a section which should not have been included within the branching which I would like to move under Build. Is it possible to move this section out and remove its branching information? If I do a rename what impact might this have when creating new branches or merging?

  I've got multiple massive (multi gigabyte) datasets I need to import into a Rails app. The datasets are currently each in their own database on my development machine, and I need to read from them and create rows in tables in my Rails database based on the information they contain. The tables in my Rails database will not be exactly the same as the tables in the source databases. What's the smartest way to go about this? I was thinking migrations, but I'm not exactly sure how to connect the migration to the databases, and even if that is possible, is that going to be ridiculously slow?

  Is there a way to easily convert Crystal Reports reports to Reporting Services RDL format? We have quite a few reports that will be needing conversion soon. I know about the manual process (which is basically rebuilding all your reports from scratch in SSRS), but my searches pointed to a few possibilities with automatic conversion "acceleration" with several consulting firms. Here is what I am trying to do, I changed the location of a source control, completely removed it from TFS source control.. but now it is showing up wanting to add it.. And the other issue I'm having is.. when I try to Map the new project, it is giving this error.. thing is, I've completely deleted the files off my local PC, and I'm wanting to map and get latest version from source control, but giving error trying to map, rather not change the location, how do I remove the old binding and the project, when it was already deleted using TfsDeleteProject.exe

• Whats the best way to deal with backups for my php/mysql application

  I'm creating php application for my client and now thinking what would be the best way to do backups, automatically if possible? I don't have much experience in this area and in case something goes wrong, or if I need to migrate, I would like to have fast way of getting it all back online. I understand "something goes wrong" is a very wide term, but lets say that someone hacks my site and wipes out database and all the files. My app. is written in php/mysql and I got access to cpanel (hosted with justhost.com if that makes any difference :). I used Joomla and it has JoomlaPack that does complete backup almost automatically and in case site fails, its easy to revert, or migrate if necessary. Is there anything like that for my configuration that would make reverting/migration, easy?

• Why does schema.rb change (in the eyes of Git) when just running rake db:migrate?!

  This is a little general I know, but it's been bugging the hell out of me. I've been working on lots of rails projects remotely with Git and every time I do a git pull and see that there is some sort of data change (migration, or schema.rb change) I do a rake db:migrate. These generally run fine and I can continue working. But if you do a git pull and then git status, your working directory is clean (obviously) then do a rake db:migrate (obviously when there are changes) and another git status and all the sudden your db/schema.rb has changed. I have been just doing a git checkout immediately to reset back to the latest committed version of the schema.rb file, but why should this be necessary?! What is rails doing? Updating a timestamp? I can't seem to figure out what the diff is but maybe I'm just missing something?

• Using Rails, how can I set my primary key to not be an integer-typed column?

  I'm using Rails migrations to manage a database schema, and I'm creating a simple table where I'd like to use a non-integer value as the primary key (in particular, a string). To abstract away from my problem, let's say there's a table employees where employees are identified by an alphanumeric string, e.g. "134SNW". I've tried creating the table in a migration like this: create_table :employees, {:primary_key => :emp_id} do |t| t.string :emp_id t.string :first_name t.string :last_name end What this gives me is what seems like it completely ignored the line t.string :emp_id and went ahead and made it an integer column. Is there some other way to have rails generate the PRIMARY_KEY constraint (I'm using PostgreSQL) for me, without having to write the SQL in an execute call? NOTE: I know it's not best to use string columns as primary keys, so please no answers just saying to add an integer primary key. I may add one anyway, but this question is still valid.

• How to correctly migrate urls from custom asp.net solution to Wordpress?

  I have a web site built using asp.net with ugly URLs like /DisplayContent.aspx?id=789564. I know how to migrate the database, but the Wordpress urls will be (naturally) different. Can I simply write some mapping or do I have to include a rewrite rule for each subpage (300 pages) in .htaccess? Should I provide a rewrite rule for each existing page that would transform a full old url to the known new url, like for example: /DisplayContent.aspx?id=789798 -> /2010-5-10/Title-Of-The-Post Even if I manage to migrate the URLs, the structure of the HTML for the new content will naturally be different. How does this affect SEO? Should I run asp.net and wordpress side by side and issue the redirects from the asp.net application? What is the most efficient solution to this kind of migration of URLs without doing PHP programming?
