• Google analytics not provided for 55% of total traffic

  I've been here and here to learn what (not provided) means. Now the question is if what I am seeing in my Google Analytics stats for my website is considered normal (and whether I can/should do anything about it). Here are the statistics from one day, but other days are similar: 102 visits, 57 is from (not provided), that's over 55% of unknown keywords. Is it normal to have it like that? Does google plan to do anything about it? In other words, what's the perspective? In my understanding, with this approach, as people switch to https, Analytics will stop being useful. Please correct me if I am wrong in my assumptions.

• Gnome Shell installed not working in Ubuntu 12.04

  I had Gnome Shell working perfectly on my desktop, and I tried to install it on my laptop by the exact same method, (tried apt-get, synaptic and software centre), but it won't work. It seems to install fine with no errors. If I select "Gnome" at login, I get the "Gnome Classic" interface rather than Gnome Shell. My laptop has sufficient specs to run Gnome Shell. Am I missing something? EDIT: I have just discovered that under System Details Graphics, it says "Unknown". So, Ubuntu hasn't recognised my graphics card, and I'm guessing this is why Gnome Shell can't work. I have a nVidia GeForce GT 525M. How can I get it working? (as you may have realised, I'm a linux noob)

• Unable to install Steam 64bit - Wrong architecture (Lubuntu 12.04)

  I'm on a new install of Lubuntu 12.04 on an Acer Aspire 5534 (specifications here, tl;dr: AMD dual-core 64bit) trying to install steam_latest.deb from the Steam website. When I open gdebi to install, it tells me that it's uninstallable because it's for a i386 architecture. I've tried installing ia32-libs (installed, no success), gdebi --add-architecture i386 (with and without --force, command unknown). This is all I've found to fix the problem, but none of it has worked for me. Any suggestions are welcome, thanks for your time.

• Encrypt images before uploading to Dropbox [migrated]

  I want to encrypt a file first before the file will be uploaded to the dropbox. So i have implement the encryption inside the uploading of the codes. However, there is an error after i integrate the codes together. Where did my mistake go wrong? Error at putFileOverwriteRequest and it says The method putFileOverwriteRequest(String, InputStream, long, ProgressListener) in the type DropboxAPI is not applicable for the arguments (String, FileOutputStream, long, new ProgressListener(){}) Another problem is that this FileOutputStream fis = new FileOutputStream(new File("dont know what to put in this field")); i do not know where to put the file so that after i read the file, it will call the path and then upload to the Dropbox. Anyone is kind to help me in this? As time is running out for me and i still cant solve the problem. Thank you in advance. • What is the standard for naming variables and why?

  I'm going through some training on objective-c. The trainer suggests setting single character parameter names. The .NET developer in me is crying. Is this truly the convention? Why? For example, @interface Square : NSObject { int size; } -(void)setSize: (int)s; I've seen developers using underscores int _size to declar variables (I think people call the variable declared in @interface ivar for some unknown reason). Personally, I prefer to use descriptive names. E.G. @interface Square : NSObject { int Size; } -(void)setSize: (int)size; C, like C# is case sensitive. So why don't we use the same convention as .NET?

• Problems after installing Ubuntu LiveUSB on my 2nd HD

  I decided to create a Ubuntu USB installer using the Universal USB Installer, selecting a Ubuntu 12.10 ISO. I selected my D: drive, my NON-windows7 carrying drive as install. After this I Re-booted my system and my PC began to Run the Ubuntu Boot-startscreen every time I power up the machine, giving errors like this: Root=Unknown I used my girlfriend's laptop to create, on the exact same way, a real! USB Ubuntu installer. Booting from that USB, picking the option Run Ubuntu from this USB I get the following error: http://postimage.org/image/63qkv98c1/ Let's try installing it from that USB to a Hard-Disk: http://postimage.org/image/usqbwymfx/ As I said: I do not have the Option to pick my Boot-section, at this very moment I can only access to the Ubuntu installation and nothing else. I've read about 90% of other Questions that could've been related, but I could not find a solution. BTW I'm running a Acer Aspire 2Quadcore 4gb DDR 2 Ati Radeon HD, 64bit and I've set my Bios OS-usage from Windows to "Others"

• Macbook 8.1 overheating

  I have a macbook 8.1 with ubuntu 12.04 installed. But my cpu is getting very hot. On Mac my CPU is 50-60°C warm. But on ubuntu my mac is getting very hot and is by about 60°C but with min 3000rpm instead of 2000 on mac and the fan is getting very loud with 4500rpm on ubuntu when im browsing (without flash) or doing something else. i set it to 3000rpm because it is not getting so noisy instead of 2000rpm minimum. But thats not that what im expected. What ive done: i installed lm-sensors to see the temperatures and started the sensors-detect i installed macfancld, jupiter, the newest drivers from x-updates and installed the i965-va-driver oh and i installed mesa - with the default version my sandbridge was displayed as unknown i added GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi=force drm.vblankoffdelay=1 pcie_aspm=force drm.vblankoffdelay=1 i915.semaphores=1 i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 i915.i915_enable_fbc=1" ive added rfkill block bluetooth to /etc/rc.local to switch of bluetooth by default on boot my mac is not as noisy as before but it is noisy and sometimes very hot i hope you can help me

• 12.04 Dell GX260 resolution for 82845G/GL will not go greater than 1024x768

  I am a newbie to Linux and have installed 12.04 on to an old Dell GX260, I was hoping that I could slowly extract myself from Microsoft - but unless I can fix this simplest of problems I am thinking that this version of Linux is not ready for me yet!! I have read various posts but none seem to match, I believe the driver is installed, but under displays the maximum allowed in the drop down box is 1024x768 (4:3) display is unknown and detect displays does nothing. I have loaded all updates available but still no fix. xrandr shows: VGA1 connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm 1024x768 60.0* 800x600 60.3 56.2 848x480 60.0 640x480 59.9 xrandr --addmode VGA1 1360x768 cannot find mode "1360x768" anything above 1024x768 can not be found, but then I could be doing this out of step!!

• My Herokuapp is inaccessible from custom domain name

  I have a Heroku app that is located at myapp.herokuapp.com. I have mapped a domain name to this app, using the A properties. I followed the instructions on Heroku's website to the letter, and it worked for a few days. Now when I try to access the site from the custom domain, it's timing out! On Chrome, I am getting "Oops! Google Chrome could not find that page!" message. I tried pinging the name as well, but I got this error: ping: cannot resolve yourhostname.org: Unknown host The app itself is working and I don't see any error messages from Heroku. Or from new Relic. What's going on here? Also tried running host and this was the error message: ;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

• Java SOAP WSDL 1.1 message sending all the parameters (even future ones)

  I have to communicate with a SOAP Web Service defined in a WSDL 1.1. All the parameters are optional in the WSDL like: <xsd:element name="Submitter" type="xsd:string"/> but if I do not send them I get an error because the parameter was not sent, so instead I have to send an empty string for any parameter I do not intent to send. So instead of not sending the element I have to send: <Submitter></Submitter> The problem is that the WebService publisher does not have any problem adding new parameters at any point in time but I must sent at least an empty string for all the parameters. How may I call this WebService in Java so every time I call the WebService the WSDL is read so that all the parameters are sent having the parameters I care for are actually filled with the data I provide? I am currently using Apache CXF but I am open to anything to solve this problem.

My question is: is there a word to fill the blank here: "get_item_type() is ______ complete" ? (The answer is not Turing Complete - that is something quite different - but I annoyingly always think of something as "Turing Complete" when I am thinking of the above).

  I installed Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit side by side with my previous 11.10 32-bit. As everything is working correctly, I want to eliminate the old partition. According to update-grub: Found Ubuntu 11.10 (11.10) on /dev/sda1 But according to GParted, /dev/sda1 is the boot partition! So, how can I discover which partition should be the boot partition for 12.04? Can I safely eliminate the /dev/sda1? Also, GParted gives /dev/sda5 as file system unknown, it's 2.93Gib and might be the swap partition (just guessing).

  I am trying to design a sqlite database that will store notes. Each of these notes will have common fields like title, due date, details, priority, and completed. In addition though, I would like to add data for more specialized notes like price for shopping list items and author/publisher data for books. I also want to have a few general purpose fields that users can fill with whatever text data they want. How can I design my database table in this case? I could just have a field for each piece of data for every note, but that would waste a lot of fields and I'd like to have other options and suggestions.

  I'm on Ubuntu 11.04 (upgraded from 10.10) and suffering really high bootup times. It got so annoying, that I decided to dive into bootchart analysis myself.   So i'm triying to create a little "XCOM : Enemy Unknown" like game ,and using the Aron Granberg's Pathfinding-Tool (free version) to handle the "click to move part. i want to add a little trap system where the hero get stuck inside an area, so he will have only the possibility to move inside this trapped area, so far everything is fine however when i click outside the trapped area, the hero try to reach the destination even though the wall will prevents him from reaching it. so my question is, is there any way to restrict the area where the pathfinding system work to the trapped area dynamically. and wich Graph Type is recommended to use in this situation or this kind of Games (Grid Graph/Navmesh Graph/Point Graph).   I have fully functional Windows and Ubuntu that is broken (I accidentaly broke it) and want to do reinstall. With Live-CD, I can see: 3 NTFS partitions, one ext4 and one unknown. How do I find out which partitions belong to Windows? I thought that I might delete everything that wasn't NTFS, but I was afraid. Now I am using: Install Ubuntu alongside them option, but I guess that this will leave my broken Ubuntu untouched. So, again, I need to know which partitions to merge (perhaps add partitions of broken Ubuntu to new Ubuntu?). Please, how can I learn how my system is divided? Thanks a lot.

When I run lspci | grep VGA I get the following output 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV380 [Radeon X600 (PCIE)] I am not sure if it means the driver is installed. Now the problem is I can not change the resolution like I can do in windows. I wanted to use dual monitor but it can not detect dual monitor. The monitor option in the preference shows 'Unknown' I tried to use a VGA switch for my ps3 and computer, but the computer is stuck with 1024x768 resolution. • Can I get some advice on graphics cards please?

  I know that Steam for linux is on the way and have been seen a lot of games appearing in the Ubuntu Software Centre of late but my system lacks a decent graphics card and was hoping I could get some recommendations. The desktop is a Packard Bell Imedia S1800 (or Imedia D3526 UK) with the following specs; Memory: 3.8 GiB Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5800 @ 3.20GHz × 2 The system lists the graphics as 'unknown', though I think its just an integrated Intel card From what I can see there is a free PCI-E x16 slot. Any advice would be great, thanks!
