Hi,
The windows XP sigverif tool is useful for identifying non-signed executables, but does not seem to be amenable to scripting -- is there a command line equivalent?
Hello everyone,
I am using SharePoint Server 2007 with collaboration portal template on Windows Server 2008. The default search address for a site is pointed to /SearchCenter/Pages/Results.aspx. Any ideas how to change the address to some other address?
thanks in advance,
George
I just plugged in a very simple 1GB USB stick from the office in hopes of making it a Fedora Live USB stick. For that to work, I need a removable storage device, or else it won't appear in LiveUSB Creator's list.
Explorer lists my USB stick as a hard disk:
LiveUSB Creator indeed doesn't show it in the device list:
Is there any way of forcing Windows to see the stick as a removable storage device?
I am nstalling drivers for a printer, and I have a choice of either PCL (5 or 6), or PostScript drivers? Which one would you recommend and why?
The printer is HP LaserJet 2605dn, the OS is Windows 7 (x64).
Do you have a rule of thumb for this sort of thing? Or is it pretty much 'see-what-works'?
Thanks
I kept my passwords recorded but the location on my PC where I kept this went missing. I now can't get into Windows Server 2008 R2 as I can't remember the administrator or named account credentials and have no password reset disk. This is on a VM (VM Player - which btw is temp till I get Hyper-V).
How can I get back in? If I make AD can I join the server to AD and then set a domain account?
Hi,
I'm interested in Cassandra and I'd like to test it at home in my Windows XP computer. I've found instructions for install an run Cassandra in Windows, and it's already up and running; I've also found the thrift executable for Windows and generate the C# interfaces, but... when I try to compile that generated code in Visual Studio I got : "The type or namespace name 'Thrift' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)", so I'm missing something else, but I cannot find what... What is it? Is it a dll? I've looked in the thrift code and I cannot find anything related to .net , so what am I missing?
Thanks in advance.
Regards.

My servers are currently running IIS 7 (windows 2008). Is there any way to get IIS 7.5 without upgrading to 2008 R2?
The reason I ask is that they are 32 bit servers and there is no upgrade path from 32 bit 2008 to 2008 R2.
On my old computer when you drag a window around, it seems to be cut up (like what you'd see in remote desktop on a slow connection) and its becoming really annoying.
A few weeks when I was transferring data from it to my new laptop and it was working fine then however when I started it a few minutes ago this issue occurred.
I tried restarting several time with no luck.
OS: Windows XP Professional
Graphics Card: nVidia 9600GT
I have a friend that keeps a collection of burned Windows CD's; 2000, XP, Vista which he uses to repair peoples computers with. Now he justifies this by saying he uses the CD-Key on their OEM sticker that came with their PC. As long as the installation validates the installation should be 100% legal. Is this true? I've always been under the impression you had to use the original CD/DVD that came with the computer.
Thanks in advance.
I need dual screen for my web developer job but when I do illustrations I prefer to work on a single screen to avoid the stretching of the workspace which affects tablet's precision.
Is there a way to make my tablet work only on my primary screen and, at the same time, use mouse for both screens? I've looked into my tablet's preferences and haven't found it.
I use Windows XP, Bamboo Fun A5, ATI Radeon X 1050.
Thanks in advance.
I use a Dvorak keyboard layout, controlled through the language bar "United States-Dvorak". I'm trying to use the Chinese IME (Simplified, Pinyin), but whenever I switch to that mode, the keys go back to QWERTY, so I can't type...
Note: The OS is Windows 7, which has the new Pinyin IME.
Edit: I wish I could put my SO rep up for a bounty here. :\ I guess 100 has to do for now.
Does anyone know of a generic driver for touchpads that supports scrolling. I specifically need this for a Windows 7 machine but could use it on others as well.
We have a site to site DFSR on Windows Server 2008 R2 that has been running perfectly between site A to site B until someone dumped a 20GB folder. This has overwhelmed the upload and make the internet almost useless at site A (the upload is low at the branch office).
We have removed this folder from the DFS share on site A, however the internet is still really slow.
Is there any way to cancel this sync or other way to get DFSR back in to a happy state?
Sql Server on Windows Server 2008:
Overnight, fullbackups taking 7-10 hours instead of 1-3
transaction logs taking 4-5 minutes instead of 1 minute
Query optimization taking 3x longer
I'm feeling like a disk in my Raid Array (raid5) is faulty or the raid controller or network card, Rackspace is telling me everything is fine.
Any ideas on what/how I need to check?
Is there a method for determining the speed of a USB port on a Windows XP PC, without using a USB protocol analyzer?
I'm looking for something simple, such as looking at the Device Manager.
I would like to hook up some USB equipment to a USB 2.0 port, rather than the slower USB 1.0 or 1.1.
Hi, guys,
I'm running Windows 7.
Whenever I disable the wireless adapter, the "Disable" option does not change to "enable".
Similarly, for the "Local Area Connection", when I click on "Disable", the adapter gets disabled, but the "Disable" option remains.
In summary, I am never offered the option to enable an adapter.
Does anyone know if there is a root cause and solution to the OS X 10.6 Samba issues? We are seeing very slow connects from 10.6.2 to Windows Server 2003 via samba.
(smbclient connects fast every time)
Any suggestions?
Every 30 minutes, almost by clockwork, a get the following error on my Windows 2008 R2 servers:
Log Name: System
Source: MSiSCSI
Event ID: 113
Level: Warning
Description:
iSCSI discovery via SendTargets failed with error code 0xefff0003 to target portal *10.2.62.3 0003260 B06BDRV\L4SC&PCI_163A14E4&SUBSYS_045F1028&REV_20\5&cabe3b7&0&30050200_0
I have 12 identically built servers connected to this iSCSI network and they are all seeing this issue. I've updated drivers and firmware levels without any change. Any other obvious things I should try before engaging my network team and the vendors.
The Windows _setmbcp function allows any valid code page...
(except UTF-7 and UTF-8, which are not
supported)
OK, not supporting UTF-7 makes sense: Characters have non-unique representations and that introduces complexity and security risks.
But why not UTF-8?
As I understand it, the "ANSI" versions of the Windows API functions convert their arguments to UTF-16, call the equivalent "W" function, and convert any strings in the output to "ANSI". This is what I've been doing manually. So why can't Windows do it for me?
Okay i have what may seem a really easy to solve problem but i've been trying to solve it for days.
I'm trying to deploy a asp.net MVC2 application to a IIS 5.1 server running Windows XP Pro. (it's actually the default MVC2 app)
However when i deploy, the only thing i'm able to see is a Directory listing. I tried a lot of stuff but can't get it to display anything other than the directory listing.
hopefully i'm just a noob who forgot to add something, thanks for your answer :)
What antivirus would you recommend for computers used for windows development. Would you use an antivirus for these users? These users compile quite often and therefore read and write tons of files. If I deploy a slow performing antivirus, they will not be happy.
I have a bunch of .to6-Files that get opened without a problem with FileMaker Server 9 on Mac.
Now I copied them to a Windows box with FMS9, and they are not even detected by the admin console. Is there anything Mac-specific about ".TO6"-Files?
Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit

Since upgrading from Vista to Win 7 File Hippo Update Checker no longer works? It appears to go through the motions of checking the software because the popup window appears but it never fires up the results in a browser which it used to do in Vista.
It simply does nothing after the initial popup window appears and disappears.
Have tried uninstall/reinstall with no joy.
Any ideas?
