• Which VCS is efficient for storing small changes to big text files?

  A government agency publishes a text file with thousands of records. The entire file is about 60MB. Every day the file has about 60 new or changed records. We need to validate some info against that file, and for auditing purposes, we may need to recover the file as it was in certain date. I thought I could use a VCS to store the file using git, but I understand git stores the entire text file gzipped, so the 60BM file will still need about 30MB to store everyday version. I wonder if one of the free VCS stores only diff/patch files.

• What should be learned for someone starting in Android Games?

  I know this might be a little subjective. But I've read the other questions. A lot of answers kept on popping up like to use box2d, libgdx, andEngine, etc. So the real question is, what would be the best to start off with as a beginner. I have some experience with java code, just by reading about in the Oracle Docs. I've gone through Flash and Eclipse. When i mean gone through, i don't mean i have actually created my own game from Flash or Eclipse, but i just learn things here and there. Currently I'm reading Beginning Android for Beginners but I don't have the knowledge to implement my own Ideas into the game tutorials because of lack of experience. I'm looking for a way to learn how to program to create games for Android. While at the same time get experience from programming. I do not want to learn those drag and drop game making applications such as GameMaker.

• SQLBits 9 goes to Liverpool

  SQLBits 9 has now been announced as 29th September to 1st October 2011 at the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool. This will follow the now familiar three day format, a training day, and two full days of concurrent sessions. Saturday 1st October will of course be the free community day. Despite growing the event quite dramatically over the past four years, this is something we are all very proud to have maintained and is a key factor when planning the events. • No panels at all after upgrading from 10.04 to 12.04

  After upgrading to 12.4 from 10.4 on an AMD64 the situation is as follows: After booting I see the Xubuntu logo splash screen and when I log in I get an error that there is a system crash somewhere (it suggest to click on the notification icon, but no info appears then). FInally I can only see my initial 10.04 Desktop but I have no panels at all, so I can only click on my Desktop objects. Question: Will a clean re intall solve the problem? In such case will my multi partition configuration (Vista+XP+ubuntu partitions) be affected?

  I have a touch display. As input I can receive the coordinates and how many touch points are in use, basically I just get an X,Y couple for every touch event/activated point at a customizable rate. I need to start from this and build my own callback system to achieve something like Object.onUp().doSomething() meaning that I would like to abstract just the detection of some particular movements and not having to deal with raw data: what algorithms can be useful in this case? What statements? Is there some C++ library that I can dissect to get some useful info? Would you suggest the use of an heuristic algorithm?

  I am looking for theoretical resources (books, tutorials, etc.) to learn about making sound statistical inferences given (plenty of) multivariate website conversion data. I'm after the math involved, and cannot find any good non-marketing stuff on the web. The sort of questions I want to answer: how much impact does a single variable (e.g. color of text) have? what is the correlation between variables? what type of distribution is used for modelling (Gaussian, Binomial, etc.)? When using statistics to analyze results - what should be considered as a random variable - the web-page element that gets different variations or the binary conversion-or-no-conversion outcome of an impression? There's plenty of information about different website optimization testing methods and their benefits\pitfalls, plenty of information about multivariate statistics in general, do you guys know of resources that discuss statistics in this specific context of website optimization ? • Live USB does not work

  I've made live USB using these "Universal-USB-Installer-1.9.1.9", "unetbootin-windows-581", "YUMI-0.0.8.0" & "LinuxLive USB Creator 2.8.18" in "FAT32" format, but unfortunately I could not boot using the pen-drive. My BIOS supports boot from USB drive. When I am booting from the live usb, it just show black screen with a blinking "_", but nothing happens after that( I have waited more than 10 minutes, but nothing happens). So, can anyone please help me on this? [Additional Info.: I've made Bootable USB using PowerISO and that booted, but it was not possible to access the USB normally afterwards,because PowerISO formatted the USB Drive as RAW(or anything I don't know) and it became 8GB to 700MB, afterwards I had to format it using MiniTool Partition manager.]

  I have Samsung 530U4C. How can I configure 3-finger gestures to work? Choosing next photo using 3 finger "scrool" worked in Windows 7. If I use synclient TapButton3=2 I may use it as medium mouse button, but there's problem: it gets cancelled after reboot, and as I read over the Internet, sometime else. Moreover, it would be great to see all gestures my laptop support and configure them all as I need. I find some info about touchegg, but I didn't manage to understand what it exactly is and even run it. Two-finger gestures works fine(configured using System setting menu)

• why is the video freezing all the time on youtube yet the audio plays ok throughout?

  this is just a fresh install of ubuntu 12.04 . I tried it a few years ago when it was on 7.04 and had a lot of issues,then my pc broke and ive never tried it again until tonight. Everything seems to be working well except videos on youtube either wont play at all or freeze while the audio keeps going as normal. Is this a common issue thats gonna be fairly easy to fix or is it something to do with my video card?(ati radeon2100). Any help/advice would be much appreciated.If any other info is needed about my pc feel free to ask. thanks

• USB mouse freezes

  A simple Microsoft Optical mouse 1000 (USB) that runs perfectly on Windows, freezes up under Ubuntu 10.x and Fedora 1x after about 10 minutes of using the OS.Rebooting, the same problem comes up again in a few minutes. Interestingly, the problem does not occur when Ubuntu is installed in Oracle VirtualBox VM. Installing Ubuntu "as usual" (i.e. not in a VM), causes the problem to occur. Has any one here faced the same problem or have a solution for it? Maybe using a different mouse that is known to work with Ubuntu 10.x? If it helps my system is: Asus P5NSLI motherboard (nVidia nForce 570 chipset), 4 GB RAM Ubuntu 10.10 refers to "32 bit" version of Ubuntu It seems that Ubuntu has a lot of all types of freeze issues. Can someone recommend a version of Ubuntu that is fairly recent and stable ? I intend to use Ubuntu for Ruby on Rails development.

I will do this in winforms, perhaps in a Windows Service, running on the server. • Ubuntu 12.04 mdadm inactive

  For a while now, my RAID 5 has ceased to work. Everytime I tried "madm --detail /dev/md127", its states all the drive and drive info, but that two of the drives have been removed. After some restarts, doing the same thing, i am getting /dev/md127 does not appear to be active. When I go into DiskUtil, I can see all 6 Hard Drives healthy and present, and i can see the Raid 5 at the bottom under Multi-disk Devices. However, the Raid says 0.0kb, and is not active. Please help and let me know how to proceed from here. I would really like to avoid rebuilding the RAID, especially because all 6 drives seem to be healthy and present. Thanks so much.
