  • Web application design with distributed servers

    I want to build a web application/server with this structure: main-server sub-server transaction-server (create, update, delete) view-server (view, search) authentication-server documents-server reporting-server library-server e-learning-server The main-server acts as host server for sub-server. I can add many sub-servers and connect it to main-server (via plug-play interface maybe), then it can begin querying data from another sub-servers (which has been connected to the main-server). The sub-servers can be anywhere as long as connected to internet. The main-server can manage all sub-servers which are connected to it (query data, setting permission between sub-servers, etc). The purpose is simple, the web application will be huge as the company grows, so I want to distribute it into small connected plug-able servers. My question is, does the structure above already have a standardized method? or are there any different views? what are the technologies needed? I need a lot of researches before the execution plan begin. thanks a lot.

  • Using google apps mail with my existing gmail account

    Please help!, Here is my situation: I've been doing business using my current gmail address ([email protected]) and really wanted my mail address to read [email protected], so i looked into google apps. It says you can set up custom emails with your domain name, achieving the above goal, but how do i configure these addresses to run through my CURRENT gmail account? I have everything pretty well set up, and it would be very time consuming to effectively start again...Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. Barney

  • Apps not starting on Mac OS X Lion

    I have a strange problem, some apps that I download do not launch. There are 2 scenarios The application starts but keeps bouncing, once I click the bouncing icon in the tray it disappears. The process also closes in activity monitor The application fails to start, how ever many times I launch it, it refuses.     My friend needs to resize some pictures as part of a web publishing job, but he is rather clueless when it comes to computers. I am in charge of teaching him how to do this, but only have Linux (albeit with Wine installed) at my disposal for testing. Could you guys recommend a fast, easy, batch-capable, and hopefully open-source program that will resize pictures to the resolution he wants? It doesn't have to be anything fancy, but it needs to be quick and easy to use. Thanks!

  • ssh into my mac from my ipod

    Ok so this is what I got, but it don't look right... The set up is as follows: My Mac is on a wireless network, presumably behind a firewall over which I have no admin privileges. Further, said wireless network changes my internal IP randomly at random times, so I do not know what my ip is. Note that localhost is a variable ip I forward some port or the other to my dns: ssh -R 19999:localhost:22 sourceuser@remotehost connect to my remotehost from my machine: ssh sourceuser@remotehost and then connect to the port I forwarded: ssh localhost -p 19999 [solved] Second question, there are a bunch of ssh clients for the iphone. Which one should I use? EDIT: Since jailbreak is not illegal, simply frowned upon by the Corporation, I've decided to go with that. I have a nice shell with openssh and the works. Best of all, it's free and it does exactly what you expect.

    Mailing lists are great, but they're a fundamentally different beast than email. It seems strange to me to keep mailing lists in my email program (Gmail). Of course I have folders set up to automatically keep them out of my inbox, but if I have hundreds of mailing lists, it gets really out of hand. Is there an application (or web application) that is designed specifically as a mailing list "client"?

  • Pre-set OS X dock icon positions for non-permanent apps?

    Is it possible to have OS X always place certain app icons in specific places (eg. position "two") in the dock, when they're not permanently docked apps? At the moment every non-permanent app is added to the end (far right), but, for example, if I have my mail and todo list apps open, I want them to pop up in positions one and two. I know this can easily be achieved by permanently docking icons, I'm specifically looking for a solution for non-permanent apps. I suspect OS X has no built in facility for this, perhaps there's a 3rd party app or script/command line trick?

  • How to backup metro "app" data, manually

    I'm a PC tech and I have been getting more and more Windows 8 issues. First off I hate metro, and secondly I hate "apps". I like to do fresh installs of Windows8. I backup my user's data and then fresh install. Assuming there is no recovery partition how can I manually backup the user's app data so that in the event of a reformat I simply redownload their apps (dumb, I wish there was a way to actually back them up too) and plop the data back in. Do most normal people even use "apps", or do they use Windows8 like a desktop OS? I totally dropped metro with ClassicShell.

  • Todo/task manager for android and desktop linux

    I'm looking forward to Task/ToDo Manager. It should work under Android, Linux(or Web). If it's very cool, one of them is OK too, Android is preferable in this situation. Necessary features: Russian or English language Possibility to mark task as finished Interesting features: (I want as more, as possible, while it's OK, if some of them isn't avaliable) Nice and easy-to-use interface Possibility to choose finish time for task. After that it's showed as overdue. Possibility to choose start time for task. Before it task is inactive and maybe shown or hide Possibility to add nested tasks. Task marks completed when all sub-tasks are completed. Possibility to make dependencies. If A depends on B, and B isn't finished yet, A is inactive as in third feature. Possibility to create task in a moment without fill-all-this-forms Syncronization between version(Android to linux or Android to web) Notification (on Android only) Features, that I'm not interested in: Creating more than one todo list sharing ToDo's I've seen couple of managers. Is there a website/app/forum/newsletter where I can followup different softwares or technology and feature soon after their new releases. i.e. ipad iphone ios 7 release as soon as it will release with its feature. andriod next version soon after it release with its feature. coreldraw x7 whenever it will rlease zend framework new version when ever it will release. mac php new version photoshop new version ....... there are lot more list than that which goes on and on and Its difficult to follow up new technology as they come out. Any better and less time consuming way to follow up.

  • Windows 7 Tray Application

    When I launch an application in Windows 7, it shows up in the tray but no where on my main screen. When I hover over it and select the application, nothing shows up. In order to make the application visible, I need to hover over it, right click and select maximize. Anytime I maximize the screen and then select to make it a smaller window, it also disappears. This is an awfully painful process in judst trying to launch the application. Please help me figure out how to change this to make sure th applicationalways opens into a maximized screen.
