• Best cheap GUI for converting to f4v

  Hi, I need to give one client the ability to convert some videos to f4v h264 before loading it up to an AIR app. I normally doing with the Adobe Media Encoder CS4 but that only ships with adobe products (you can't download it as a free standalone app - which, start rant is odd, you'd think they would push the format - Microsoft's competing expresssion encoder is free end rant) Anyway, I need to get a (hopefully not too expensive, but willing to pay for it) good 3rd part app that can take any video and convert it to an f4v. Can you suggest any? Everything i've found is horrible or jammed with ads and crap. What would you use? Any suggestion? (please don't just say ffmpeg - I know it can do it but we need to good simple GUI) Thanks!

• How to make the value of one select box drive the options of a second select box

  I want to make an HTML form with 2 select boxes. The selected option in the first select box should drive the options in the second select box. I would like to solve this dynamically on the client (using javascript or jQuery) rather than having to submit data to the server. For example, let's say I have the following Menu Categories and Menu Items: Sandwiches Turkey Ham Bacon Sides Mac 'n Cheese Mashed Potatoes Drinks Coca Cola Sprite Sweetwater 420 I would have two select boxes, named Menu Category and Items, respectively. When the user selects Sandwiches in the Menu Category box, the options in the Items box will only show Sandwich options. I'm stuck as how I might approach this. Once I filter out the 2nd list one time, how do I "find" the list options once I change my menu category in the 1st list? Also, if I'm thinking in SQL, I would have a key in the 1st box that would be used to link to the data in the 2nd box. However, I can't see where I have room for a "key" element in the 2nd box. How could this problem be solved with a combination of jQuery or plain javascript?

  In CakePHP 1.2, custom inflector rules could be defined in a file app/config/inflections.php. This file was removed in CakePHP 1.3. Instead, the documentation prescribes using the Inflector::rules function to load custom inflections. There's adequate documentation of how to define the custom inflections themselves, but the documentation gives no context—where to use Inflector::rules. Should any custom inflections be defined in the bootstrap.php script? At the top of applicable corresponding controllers? Somewhere else? • Has anyone noticed that a WPF file dialog will pass through a click to the UI when double clicking t

  I have some buttons on my WPF UI and I also need to choose files from time to time. I kept noticing strange problems where when I double-click an item in the file dialog, a button on the main UI would also get clicked. After experimenting, it seems that if you line up an item in the file dialog with a button behind it on the main UI and double click to select the file, it will single-click the button behind it as well. Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just a freak bug with the way I have my UI laid out?

• Managing important runtime business logic with regard to a codebase

  I'm working on a project which will end up have a lot of application information stored in the form of records in a database. In this case, it's the configuration of data views: which grid columns to show/hide default filters to apply to each grid view column titles sorting subtotaling ... This information is a big part of the value of the application and is essential to it's function. The data will be altered by admins a fair amount, so it's not static and it wouldn't be appropriate to have to deploy a new version of the app every time the data changes. The question is, Where should this data be stored? It will definitely live in the database because that's how it's accessed, but I feel like it needs to also be kept with the version controlled codebase because it's an integral part of functioning of the application. Has anyone dealt with an issue like this before? What did you end up doing?

  Hi! I have a smart client application being deployed with a CickOnce webpage. here's the current scenario. User runs the application, and the application shows a login form. User enters ID/Password in the login form, and the application sends that information to the server. The server authenticates the user and sends configuration and data to the application. Different users have different configuration and data for their application. I was concerned that anyone can download the application from the webpage if they know the URL. So I'm trying to change the authentication scheme, so that users can login at the webpage to download the application. I want to send the authentication info from the webpage(Program running at the server) to the smart client app, so that application can download the configuration information from the server, without prompting users to make a login again. How can the webpage send the ID/Passoword to the application securely?

• Can not make the settings from the sidebar gadget get applied

  Hey guys, OK, I am not an expert at Sidebar Gadgets, but I have this project I will have to make for school. Have tried to solve it on my own but I got really stuck. I will have to use the Cirip API (Cirip.ro being a kind of Twitter), and for the use of the API I have to input the username. I do so by means of the Settings, but when closing the settings there is no effect. Here is the code, but it's pretty messy.   I have the following test in my Rails Application: it "should validate xml" do builder = Builder::XmlMarkup.new builder.server(:name => "myServer", :ip => "192.168.1.1").should == "<server name=\"myServer\" ip=\"192.168.1.1\"/>" end The problem is that this test passes sometimes, because the order of the xml tag attributes is unpredictable. Is there a way to force this order? Is there any other easy way to build xml? This example is simplified, I have a big XML. My problem is that I want to do an integration test, which compares a WebService call with a fixed XML file. Otherwise, I would have to parse the xml and verify element by element in the XML.

  I've had this problem in a lot of different webs. You have a font which has different anti-aliasing options, the designer uses the same font with different anti-aliasing options on different parts of the text on the web. So there is a difference between some elements. In this case I have sharp, crisp, strong and smooth. I've used a font generator to get the code to access it via @font-face. Even so, I also have the original .otf if important to know. Is there a method to access this? • Dynamically setting the queryset of a ModelMultipleChoiceField to a custom recordset

  I've seen all the howtos about how you can set a ModelMultipleChoiceField to use a custom queryset and I've tried them and they work. However, they all use the same paradigm: the queryset is just a filtered list of the same objects. In my case, I'm trying to get the admin to draw a multiselect form that instead of using usernames as the text portion of the , I'd like to use the name field from my account class. However, when I do: $("#myCheckbox").click(); The checkbox changes it checked attribute after the event is triggered. • How do I register multiple paths for a HttpHandler in IIS7?

  I have a HttpHandler that resizes images based on the querystring, so requesting something like: http://server/image.jpg?width=320&height=240 will give you a resized image that's 320x240. In the IIS Manager, under Handler Mappings, I mapped my handler's path as *.jpg,*.gif,*.bmp,*.png. However, this doesn't activate the handler. If I change it to just *.jpg, then it works. My question is, do I have to create 4 separate mapping entries, one for each image type, or is there some way to combine multiple extensions in one path?

• slideDown() Makes Everything in Wrapper Shift

  Hello everyone, I am currently creating a simple menu where there are several names of services and a user can click on one and jQuery will show it's corresponding paragraph describing it below it. My jQuery code is fine and does exactly what I want, however, I have one bug I have yet to iron out. Whenever I click one of these headings and it's description displays, everything in the wrapper for the page shifts to the left about 7 pixels in Firefox, it does the same thing is Google Chrome however I have not measured the amout but I am sure it is irrelevant. Anyways, I am using the slideToggle() command to show the hidden parragraph. I assume this is occuring because when the slideDown occurs it is somehow changing the width of everything and the "margin: 0 auto;" setting for the wrapper rule in my css is compensating for this change. Does anyone have any way I can remedy this problem? I have tried several other fixes I've found around the internet but to no avail. • Why does first call to java.io.File.createTempFile(String,String,File) take 5 seconds on Citrix?

  While debugging slow startup of an Eclipse RCP app on a Citrix server, I came to find out that java.io.createTempFile(String,String,File) is taking 5 seconds. It does this only on the first execution and only for certain user accounts. Specifically, I am noticing it Citrix anonymous user accounts. I have not tried many other types of accounts, but this behavior is not exhibited with an administrator account. Also, it does not matter if the user has access to write to the given directory or not. If the user does not have access, the call will take 5 seconds to fail. If they do have access, the call with take 5 seconds to succeed. This is on a Windows 2003 Server. I've tried Sun's 1.6.0_16 and 1.6.0_19 JREs and see the same behavior. I googled a bit expecting this to be some sort of known issue, but didn't find anything. It seems like someone else would have had to have run into this before. The Eclipse Platform uses File.createTempFile() to test various directories to see if they are writeable during initialization and this issue adds 5 seconds to the startup time of our application. I imagine somebody has run into this before and might have some insight. Here is sample code I executed to see that it is indeed this call that is consuming the time. • How do I format the contents of a DataGrid cell as a Date? as Currency?

  I have a Silverlight DataGrid that's being populated with different types of data for each column. I'm trying to figure out how to format some of the contents of the DataGrid's cells, specifically for dates and formatting. I have a date column that's currently displaying like: 3/11/2010 12:00:00 AM. I would rather it display like 3/14/2010. I have a number column that's currently displaying like: 51.32. I'd rather it display as currency like $51.32. I'm not sure how I can go about doing this. I'd prefer to do it in XAML instead of C#, but both solutions are fine.
