• Installing Ubuntu 12.04 on the Hp Mini 210-2090nr

  When i got this netbook last year i planned n putting ubuntu netbook remix on it but i never did and now i can no longer booot n to windows for some reason so i finally decided to do it but after makig a usb stick with ubuntu on it it will not get to the menu where there is the black and white ubuntu logo and the option to install try and so on. I know to usb is configured correctly it will boot on other computers but on the netbook it only flashes SYSLINUX 4.06EOD..... and then flashs blue before turning black with the whit undercore in the top right corner for a very long time. any suggestions ive been told to disable acpi but i cant find it in the bios. (btw im uing 12.04 though ive tried 11.04 and used unetbootin linux live installer and universal usb installer to make the usb)

My questions are: 1) How well does Windows 7 perform under boot camp? 2) Will I be able to encrypt the whole HDD (with TrueCrypt or whatever else) and still use boot camp to dual-boot?   I was looking at this post How to create a screencast? which mentions some of the Video Recorders (Screencast) that I was looking for but some of them are more than 8 months old with not one single update made to them. Am looking for a Screencast that is at least update recently and that I know that if I keep using it I could count on it being updated. The most important part is video recording but sound is good too. Maybe a windows area, mouse tracking, etc.. But it needs to be up to date and not abandoned or very old. And of course that works in 11.10 and has in mind to work in 12.04.

• Kernel Panic: Not booting after upgrade from 10.04 to 12.04

  I upgraded from 10.04 to 12.04LTS. Upgrade went fine, even restarted couple of times. Then the next day while booting into Ubuntu, after the grub, it gave the error Kernel panic : not syncing vfs unable to mount root fs on unknown block (0,0). I then booted into live CD and tried the following commands, based on other posts on this forum: sudo fdisk -l As the 8 was on /dev/sda1, sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt sudo mount --bind /dev /mnt/dev Now I got the message: mount: mount point /mnt/dev does not exist Then tried sudo mount --bind /proc /mnt/proc Again got the message: mount point point /mnt/proc does not exist. then tried sudo chroot /mnt Got message: chroot: failed to run comman '/bin/bash': No such file or directory Now have no clue what to do next. Unable to boot into Ubuntu. Please help. Jitesh

• Booting from e-sata drive

  I have a HP EliteBook laptop (don't know exact product number), which has an internal hard drive with Windows installed on it. I have an external hard drive with e-sata and USB ports, linux installed on it. When I try to boot from the external drive, it works if I use USB but not if I use e-sata. In the BIOS setup, I have the following boot order set: External SATA drive USB Hard Drive Notebook Upgrade Bay Notebook Hard Drive etc. When I boot from another drive (such as the internal hard drive or from CD-ROM), and have the e-sata cable connected, it works perfectly. Is there any way to boot from the e-sata drive?

  Possible Duplicate: My computer boots to a black screen, what options do I have to fix it? From my Windows XP SP3 machine, I downloaded the live image file for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I then burned a bootable CD. Then I went into the BIOS and set installation settings to (first) CD drive and (second) disabled. However, when I boot I only get a black screen with a blinking cursor. After some time I might get some error messages. Even if I leave it for hours I get nothing. FYI: I don't know how to go to the GRUB menu. Please make the answers easy since I am a young beginner.

• Ubuntu 12.04.3 alongside Windows 8.1

  I brought a new Notebook which has pre-installed Windows 8.1 with an uefi* (-Bios) and secure boot*. (* can switch or turn so off, still no success) When i try to install Ubuntu 12.04.3, the installer doesn't recognize Windows 8.1. There were options, to delete the whole disk or do something else. The second option, shows a few partitions (NTFS) but no Windows. The Ubuntu 13.10 version even did start on my notebook, it gets frozen during start up. (I thought. maybe the newer one will recognize Windows.) I'm not very confident in manipulating grub, I hope there is an easy way or an easy description. But this comes up: unknown filesystem grub rescue> As i need the programs from old drive I have to boot from it time to time and I don't want to install those software on the new drive. It takes so time to exchange the drives so I want to boot from USB. how can I fix this?

• Dual-booting Ubuntu and Pardus with GRUB2...Pardus no show?

  Hello all, I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed and used to dual-boot Fedora, but I replaced Fedora with Pardus. After the install, I went into ubuntu, and did a sudo update-grub. It detected my Pardus 2011 install there. When I rebooted, it did not show up in my grub2 menu however. I went back to Ubuntu and did it again...then checked the grub.cfg, and it is not there. I have read that Pardus uses a grub legacy. How can I get Pardus into my grub2 menu? • DSL modem problem in 11.10

  Earlier I used Windows 7 and the modem used to work absolutely fine. Even when it got disconnected it used to reconnect automatically without any trouble. But then I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on dual-boot and set up the modem connection properly but the modem now disconnects much more frequently (earlier it disconnected once in 5 hours or so and after Ubuntu in 5 minutes!). Also once disconnected, it does not reconnect even when I have checked the "Connect Automatically" button. I have to restart the system to reconnect it. I the clean installed Windows and modem works perfectly fine again. What is the reason for this and how can I solve this? I really want to use Ubuntu but due to this problem I can't.

• Why isn't Grub2 using custom resolution?

  I hope somebody can help me with this... Running Ubuntu 12.10 I am trying to get Grub2 to use a resolution of 1600x900... I have checked vbeinfo and hwinfo --framebuffer which both provide: Mode 0x037f: 1600x900 (+6400), 24 bits This resolution has worked on previous Ubuntu and Fedora installs. I see that freebsd has grub in ports (/usr/ports/sysutils/grub). Is it possible to utilize this port to install grub into the linux partition?

• How to reset settings when Unity won't finish booting?

  I have a new 12.04 installation and I messed things up after trying to move /home to an NTFS partition, which I later learned was a bad idea. I removed references to the NTFS partition on fstab and created new users on the ext4 / partition. Now I can't get Unity to start up properly for any user. I get the GUI with only three Launch icons (none of which are clickable) and no bar at the top. The keyboard seems to the nonfunctional after I enter my credentials. The interesting thing is that I can boot when I go through recovery mode and select resume. I wonder whether I am creating the new users properly. What is the correct protocol for doing so in order to ensure that they can run Unity?

  I've tried several systems to keep my clients requests / work organized, but somehow they still fall through the cracks. I don't like the idea of a bug tracker-like site for every client (I would not check them all). Ideally, it's all in one page but separated by client. What systems do you guys use? I'm about to just use a spreadsheet with columns for clients. Just curious if there's something better out there :) I've seen smartsheet in action which is basically a really nice spreadsheet that shows bars of time between things that are due. This looks promising.

And some other tools are used to deal with libraries. But what are other parts used for? How are they called in this process? Which tool would use various parser generators? Which part is optional? Why? Is there a brief summary get these explained on how the tools in a GNU or LLVM/Clang toolchain are organised and called in a C/C++ project building? Thanks in advance.
