• AvalonDock + UserControl + DataGrid + ContextMenu command routing issue

- by repka
I have this kind of layout: <Window x:Class="DockAndMenuTest.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:ad="clr-namespace:AvalonDock;assembly=AvalonDock" Title="MainWindow" Height="350" Width="525"> <ad:DockingManager> <ad:DocumentPane> <ad:DockableContent Title="Doh!"> <UserControl> <UserControl.CommandBindings> <CommandBinding Command="Zoom" Executed="ExecuteZoom" CanExecute="CanZoom"/> </UserControl.CommandBindings> <DataGrid Name="_evilGrid"> <DataGrid.Resources> </DataGrid.Resources> </DataGrid> </UserControl> </ad:DockableContent> </ad:DocumentPane> </ad:DockingManager> </Window> Briefly: ContextMenu is set for each DataGridRow of DataGrid inside UserControl, which in its turn is inside DockableContent of AvalonDock. Code-behind is trivial as well: public partial class MainWindow { public MainWindow() { InitializeComponent(); _evilGrid.ItemsSource = new[] { Tuple.Create(1, 2, 3), Tuple.Create(4, 4, 3), Tuple.Create(6, 7, 1), }; } private void ExecuteZoom(object sender, ExecutedRoutedEventArgs e) { MessageBox.Show("zoom !"); } private void CanZoom(object sender, CanExecuteRoutedEventArgs e) { e.CanExecute = true; } } So here's the problem: right-clicking on the selected row (if it it was selected before the right click) my command comes out disabled. The command is "Zoom" in this case, but can be any other, including a custom one. If I get rid of either docking or UserControl around my grid there are no problems. ListBox doesn't have this issue either. So I don't know what's at fault here. SNOOP shows that in cases when this propagation fails, instead of UserControl, CanExecute is handled by PART_ShowContextMenuButton (Button), which is part of docking header. I've had other issues with UI command propagation within UserControls hosted inside AvalonDock, but this one is the easiest to reproduce.

• Flex Canvas child Randomly resizes

- by BS_C3
Hi! I have an application with a viewstack that contains all the components that need to be displayed. The navigation is defined in the main application. All the components are based on canvas. The main application looks like that: <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute" xmlns:components="components.*"> <mx:VBox width="1024" height="100%" horizontalCenter="0" verticalGap="0" backgroundColor="#FFFFFF"> <mx:Image id="header" verticalAlign="top" /> <mx:ViewStack id="body" horizontalCenter="0" verticalCenter="0" width="100%" height="100%"> <components:HomePage id="hp" width="100%"/> <components:CollectionSelection id="cs" width="100%"/> <components:SearchEngine id="se" width="100%"/> <components:SearchResult id="sr" width="100%"/> <components:Tray id="tr" width="100%"/> <components:Order id="or" width="100%"/> </mx:ViewStack> <mx:Image id="footer" verticalAlign="bottom" maintainAspectRatio="false" width="100%"/> </mx:VBox> </mx:Application> I'm getting a strange behaviour from the TRAY component. Here's the code for component Tray (I've only left the display info): <mx:Canvas xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"> <mx:Image id="bg" horizontalCenter="0" verticalCenter="0" width="100%" height="100%" maintainAspectRatio="false"/> <mx:HBox width="100%"> <mx:Button x="20" y="20" label="BACK"/> <mx:Spacer width="100%"/> <mx:LinkBar itemClick="linkbar_itemClick(event)" styleName="GLBLinkBTN" separatorColor="#FFFFFF" separatorWidth="1" > <mx:dataProvider> <mx:Object label="CLEAR"/> <mx:Object label="LOGOUT"/> </mx:dataProvider> </mx:LinkBar> </mx:HBox> <mx:VBox id="mainBox" horizontalCenter="0" verticalCenter="0" verticalGap="0"> <mx:HBox width="100%" height="50" backgroundColor="#60524D" verticalAlign="bottom" paddingBottom="5"> <mx:Label styleName="TRTitle" paddingLeft="15"/> <mx:Spacer width="100%"/> <mx:Label styleName="TRItems" paddingRight="15"/> </mx:HBox> <mx:HorizontalList id="hlist" dataProvider="{TrayData.instance.itemsCollection}" columnCount="{TrayData.instance.hlistColumns}" rowCount="1" itemRenderer="components.TrayItem" horizontalScrollPolicy="off" rollOverColor="#FFFFFF" selectionColor="#FFFFFF" horizontalCenter="0" verticalCenter="0" borderStyle="none" horizontalScrollPosition="{TrayData.instance.hsPosition}" /> <mx:HBox width="100%" backgroundColor="#E7DDDB" height="40" verticalAlign="middle" paddingLeft="20" paddingRight="20"> <mx:Box width="25" verticalAlign="middle" horizontalAlign="left"> <mx:Button id="leftBtn" /> </mx:Box> <mx:Spacer width="100%"/> <mx:Box width="25" verticalAlign="middle" horizontalAlign="right"> <mx:Button id="rightBtn" /> </mx:Box> </mx:HBox> </mx:VBox> </mx:Canvas> All the components are displaying properly. However, sometimes, randomly, the vbox "mainBox" in the tray component is not displaying as it should: the horizontallist shrinks and instead of fully displaying its items, I get horizontal and vertical scrollbars for each item... I'm currently trying to reproduce this behaviour (to get a print screen) but right know, it's working fine... -_-' As soon as I get it work as it shouldn't, I'll upload an image. Here's the code for the itemRenderer (just in case...): <mx:VBox xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" > <mx:HBox width="100%" paddingTop="0" paddingBottom="0" paddingRight="3"> <mx:Spacer width="100%"/> <mx:Box width="14" height="14" verticalAlign="middle" horizontalAlign="center"> <mx:Button width="8" height="8"/> </mx:Box> </mx:HBox> <mx:VBox paddingLeft="20" paddingRight="20" verticalGap="15" paddingBottom="15"> <mx:Canvas id="thumbnail"> <mx:Image id="thumbnailBG" /> <mx:Image id="thumbnailIM" /> </mx:Canvas > <mx:VBox width="100%" verticalGap="7"> <mx:HBox width="100%" height="13"> <mx:Label width="74" opaqueBackground="#ECE5E2"/> <mx:Label paddingBottom="5"/> </mx:HBox> <mx:HBox width="100%" height="13"> <mx:Label width="74" opaqueBackground="#ECE5E2"/> <mx:Label /> </mx:HBox> <mx:HBox width="100%" height="13"> <mx:Label width="74" opaqueBackground="#ECE5E2"/> <mx:Label /> </mx:HBox> <mx:HBox width="100%" height="13"> <mx:Label width="74"opaqueBackground="#ECE5E2"/> <mx:Label /> </mx:HBox> <mx:HBox width="100%" height="13"> <mx:Label width="74" opaqueBackground="#ECE5E2"/> <mx:Label /> </mx:HBox> <mx:HBox width="100%" height="13"> <mx:Label width="74" opaqueBackground="#ECE5E2"/> <mx:Label /> </mx:HBox> <mx:HBox width="100%" height="13"> <mx:Label width="74" opaqueBackground="#ECE5E2"/> <mx:Label /> </mx:HBox> <mx:HBox width="100%" height="13"> <mx:Label width="74" opaqueBackground="#ECE5E2"/> <mx:Label /> </mx:HBox> </mx:VBox> <mx:Button /> </mx:VBox> </mx:VBox> Your help would really be appreciated. Regards, BS_C3

• WPF ComboBox SelectedValue not updating from binding source.

- by vg1890
Here's my binding source object: Public Class MyListObject Private _mylist As New ObservableCollection(Of String) Private _selectedName As String Public Sub New(ByVal nameList As List(Of String), ByVal defaultName As String) For Each name In nameList _mylist.Add(name) Next _selectedName = defaultName End Sub Public ReadOnly Property MyList() As ObservableCollection(Of String) Get Return _mylist End Get End Property Public ReadOnly Property SelectedName() As String Get Return _selectedName End Get End Property End Class Here is my XAML: <Window x:Class="Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:WpfApplication1" > <Window.Resources> <ObjectDataProvider x:Key="MyListObject" ObjectInstance="" /> </Window.Resources> <Grid> <ComboBox Height="23" Margin="24,91,53,0" Name="ComboBox1" VerticalAlignment="Top" SelectedValue="{Binding Path=SelectedName, Source={StaticResource MyListObject}, Mode=OneWay}" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=MyList, Source={StaticResource MyListObject}, Mode=OneWay}" /> List 1 List 2 </Grid> </Window> Here's the code-behind: Class Window1 Private obj1 As MyListObject Private obj2 As MyListObject Private odp As ObjectDataProvider Public Sub New() InitializeComponent() Dim namelist1 As New List(Of String) namelist1.Add("Joe") namelist1.Add("Steve") obj1 = New MyListObject(namelist1, "Steve") . Dim namelist2 As New List(Of String) namelist2.Add("Bob") namelist2.Add("Tim") obj2 = New MyListObject(namelist2, "Tim") odp = DirectCast(Me.FindResource("MyListObject"), ObjectDataProvider) odp.ObjectInstance = obj1 End Sub Private Sub btn_List1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.RoutedEventArgs) Handles btn_List1.Click odp.ObjectInstance = obj1 End Sub Private Sub btn_List2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.RoutedEventArgs) Handles btn_List2.Click odp.ObjectInstance = obj2 End Sub End Class When the Window first loads, the bindings hook up fine. The ComboBox contains the names "Joe" and "Steve" and "Steve" is selected by default. However, when I click a button to switch the ObjectInstance to obj2, the ComboBox ItemsSource gets populated correctly in the dropdown, but the SelectedValue is set to Nothing instead of being equal to obj2.SelectedName. Thanks in advance!

• WPF Choppy Animation

- by Chris Dunaway
WPF Windows-XP SP3 I'm having a problem with a simple WPF animation. I use the following Xaml code (in XamlPad and also in a WPF project): <Page xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:sys="clr-namespace:System;assembly=mscorlib" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" > <Border Name="MyBorder" BorderThickness="10" BorderBrush="Blue" CornerRadius="10" Background="DarkRed" > <Rectangle Name="MyRectangle" Margin="10" StrokeDashArray="2.0,1.0" StrokeThickness="10" RadiusX="10" RadiusY="10" Stroke="Black" StrokeDashOffset="0"> <Rectangle.Triggers> <EventTrigger RoutedEvent="Rectangle.Loaded"> <BeginStoryboard> <Storyboard> <DoubleAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="MyRectangle" Storyboard.TargetProperty="StrokeDashOffset" From="0.0" To="3.0" Duration="0:0:1" RepeatBehavior="Forever" Timeline.DesiredFrameRate="30" /> </Storyboard> </BeginStoryboard> </EventTrigger> </Rectangle.Triggers> </Rectangle> </Border> </Page> It has the effect of causing the border to animate around the rectangle. After a fresh reboot of the machine, this animation is nice and smooth. However, I tend to leave my machine on all the time and after a period time elapses (I don't know how long), the animation starts stuttering and becomes choppy. I thought that it may be memory or resource issues, but after shutting down all other apps and any services that seem unnecessary, the stuttering still continues. However, after a system reboot, the animation is smooth again! I get the same symptoms in a WPF app or in XamlPad. In the case of the app, it doesn't seem to make any difference whether I run in the debugger or if I run the executable directly. I applied the patch at this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981741 and I thought that it had taken care of the issue, but it seems not to have. I have seen some posts that might indicate that using transparency might affect animation, but as you can see, my xaml does not use transparency. Can anyone give me some suggestions on how to determine what the problem is? Are there any WPF diagnostic tools that might help? UPDATE: I have checked my video drivers and they are the latest version. (nVidia GeForce 8400 GS)

• WPF customer control and direct content support

- by Mmarquee
I am fairly new to WPF, and am a bit stuck, so any help would be appreciated. I am trying to write WPF custom control that encapsulates several elements of functionality that I already having working (i.e sorting, filtering, standard menus, etc.), but in a nice neat package to avoid repetition. Anyway I have created the custom control (based on control), and then have the following in the Generic.Xaml <ResourceDictionary xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:Controls.ListViewExtended"> </ResourceDictionary> When I try to add GridViewColumns (or any control really), as below ... <elv:ListViewExtended> <GridView> <GridViewColumn Width="140" Header="Column 1" /> <GridViewColumn Width="140" Header="Column 2" /> <GridViewColumn Width="140" Header="Column 3" /> </GridView> </elv:ListViewExtended> I get the "... does not support direct content" error. I have created a dependancy property (again below) that allows the adding of GridView, but it still doesn't work. public static DependencyProperty GridViewProperty; public static string GridViewHeader(DependencyObject target) { return (string)target.GetValue(GridViewProperty); } public static void GridViewHeader(DependencyObject target, string value) { target.SetValue(GridViewProperty, value); } Thanks in advance

• WPF Using commands to slow to update UI controls

- by toni
Hi, I bind a command to a button through command property and doing a command binding in the page it is placed. In execute method I create an instance of a class that contains the background worker and I start it (this is a long task). The background worker (bw) class contains a variable isRunning that it is set to true before DoWork method is executed and to false when RunWorkerCompleted is executed. So from the code behind of the page where button is placed, in CanExecute method I set e.canExecute to true if bw is no running (isRunning = false), and e.canExecute to false if isRunning = true. WHen I press the button, it launch bw process for a long time and the button gets disabled. Ok this is correct, but when background worker (bw) finishes, the button doesn't returns to enabled until I press it again. When it is disabled and I press (when bw is finished) it gets enabled. Why the button is not returning automatically to enabled at the end of the bw? my code snippet: <Page x:Class="GParts.Pages.MyPage" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:Microsoft_Windows_Themes="clr-namespace:Microsoft.Windows.Themes; assembly=PresentationFramework.Aero" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:GParts" Loaded="Page_Loaded" Unloaded="Page_Unloaded" Height="Auto"> <Page.CommandBindings> <CommandBinding Command="{x:Static local:Pages.MyPage.rcmd}" Executed="CommandBinding_Executed" CanExecute="CommandBinding_CanExecute"/> </Page.CommandBindings> <...> <...> </Page> The code behind of the page: namespace GParts.Pages { public partial class MyPage : Page { public static RoutedCommand rcmd = new RoutedCommand(); private cBgWorker bw; <...> // ExecutedRoutedEventHandler for the custom button remove all command. private void CommandBinding_Executed(object sender, ExecutedRoutedEventArgs e) { // get an isntance of the background worker class bw = new cBgWorker(); // start the long task bw.StartTask(); } // CanExecuteRoutedEventHandler for the custom button remove all command. private void CommandBinding_CanExecute(object sender, CanExecuteRoutedEventArgs e) { // bw is the instance of background worker class if (bw == null) { e.CanExecute = true; } else { e.CanExecute = !bw.isRunning;// isRunning indicates if bw is //executing now } } <...> } // end class } // end namespace

• trouble resolving location in <xs:import > element in C#

- by BobC
I'm using an XML schema document to validate incoming data documents, however the schema appears be failing during compilation at run time because it refers to a complex type which part of an external schema. The external schema is specified in a element at the top of the document. I had thought it might be an access problem, so I moved a copy of the external document to a localhost folder. I get the same error, so now I'm wondering if there might be some sort of issue with the use of the element. The schema document fragment looks like this: <xs:schema targetNamespace="http://www.smpte-ra.org/schemas/429-7/2006/CPL" xmlns:cpl="http://www.smpte-ra.org/schemas/429-7/2006/CPL" xmlns:ds="http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" elementFormDefault="qualified" attributeFormDefault="unqualified"> ... <xs:import namespace="http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#" schemaLocation="http://localhost/TMSWebServices/XMLSchema/xmldsig-core-schema.xsd"/> ... <xs:element name="Signer" type="ds:KeyInfoType" minOccurs="0"/> ... </xs:schema> The code I'm trying to run this with is real simple (got it from http://dotnetslackers.com/Community/blogs/haissam/archive/2008/11/06/validate-xml-against-xsd-xml-schema-using-c.aspx) string XSDFILEPATH = @"http://localhost/TMSWebServices/XMLSchema/CPL.xsd"; string XMLFILEPATH = @"C:\foo\bar\files\TestCPLs\CPL_930f5e92-be03-440c-a2ff-a13f3f16e1d6.xml"; System.Xml.XmlReaderSettings settings = new System.Xml.XmlReaderSettings(); settings.Schemas.Add(null, XSDFILEPATH); settings.ValidationType = System.Xml.ValidationType.Schema; System.Xml.XmlDocument document = new System.Xml.XmlDocument(); document.Load(XMLFILEPATH); System.Xml.XmlReader rdr = System.Xml.XmlReader.Create(new StringReader(document.InnerXml), settings); while (rdr.Read()) { } Everything goes well until the line that instantiates the XMLReader object just before the while loop. Then it fails with a type not declared error. The type that it's trying to find, KeyInfoType, is defined in one of the the documents in the import element. I've made sure the namespaces line up. I wondered if the # signs in the namespace definitions were causing a problem, but removing them had no effect, it just changed what the error looked like (i.e. "Type 'http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig:KeyInfoType' is not declared." versus "Type 'http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#:KeyInfoType' is not declared.") My suspicion is that there's something about the processing of the element that I'm missing. Any suggestions are very welcome. Thanks!

• DoubleAnimation in ScaleTransform

- by Adam S
I'm trying, as an exhibition, to use a DoubleAnimation on the ScaleX and ScaleY properties of a ScaleTransform. I have a rectangle (144x144) which I want to make rectangular over five seconds. My XAML: <Window x:Class="ScaleTransformTest.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300" Loaded="Window_Loaded"> <Grid> <Rectangle Name="rect1" Width="144" Height="144" Fill="Aqua"> <Rectangle.RenderTransform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="1" ScaleY="1" /> </Rectangle.RenderTransform> </Rectangle> </Grid> </Window> My C#: private void Window_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { ScaleTransform scaly = new ScaleTransform(1, 1); rect1.RenderTransform = scaly; Duration mytime = new Duration(TimeSpan.FromSeconds(5)); Storyboard sb = new Storyboard(); DoubleAnimation danim1 = new DoubleAnimation(1, 1.5, mytime); DoubleAnimation danim2 = new DoubleAnimation(1, 0.5, mytime); sb.Children.Add(danim1); sb.Children.Add(danim2); Storyboard.SetTarget(danim1, scaly); Storyboard.SetTargetProperty(danim1, new PropertyPath(ScaleTransform.ScaleXProperty)); Storyboard.SetTarget(danim2, scaly); Storyboard.SetTargetProperty(danim2, new PropertyPath(ScaleTransform.ScaleYProperty)); sb.Begin(); } Unfortunately, when I run this program, it does nothing. The rectangle stays at 144x144. If I do away with the animation, and just ScaleTransform scaly = new ScaleTransform(1.5, 0.5); rect1.RenderTransform = scaly; it will elongate it instantly, no problem. There is a problem elsewhere. Any suggestions? I have read the discussion at http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/29220878/how-to-animate-tofrom-an.aspx in which someone seems to have gotten a pure-XAML version working, but the code is not shown there. EDIT: At http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2131797/applying-animated-scaletransform-in-code-problem it seems someone had a very similar problem, I am fine with using his method that worked, but what the heck is that string thePath = "(0).(1)[0].(2)"; all about? What are those numbers representing?

• How to use Django with GWT ?

- by Mononofu
So I know that I can communicate between those two using JSON, but I also know that I would have to manually recreate all Django objects in JS. Do you know of any tool or library that could help me do that? Or maybe even a better way of achieving the same goal? I only found these two: http://palantar.blogspot.com/2006/06/agad-tutorial-ish-sort-of-post.html http://stackoverflow.com/questions/990319/django-gwt-or-jquery But then I still would have to manually mirror my objects, which would violate DRY.

• WPF WrapPanel with some items having a height of *

- by Aphex
How do I make a WrapPanel with some items having a Height of *? A deceptively simple question that I have been trying to solve. I want a control (or some XAML layout magickry) that behaves similar to a Grid that has some rows with a Height of *, but supports wrapping of columns. Hell; call it a WrapGrid. :) Here's a mockup to visualize this. Imagine a grid defined as such: <Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Window1" Height="400"> <Grid> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="*"/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="*"/> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="*"/> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> I'm auto-sized. I'm star-sized. I'm auto-sized. I'm star-sized, too! I'm auto-sized. I'm auto-sized. </Grid> </Window> What I want this panel to do is wrap an item into an additional column when the item can not get any smaller than its minHeight. Here is a horrible MSPaint of some mockups I made detailing this process. Recall from the XAML that the auto-sized buttons have minHeights of 30, and the star-sized buttons have minHeights of 90. This mockup is just two grids side by side and I manually moved buttons around in the designer. Conceivably, this could be done programmatically and serve as a sort of convoluted solution to this. How can this be done? I will accept any solution whether it's through xaml or has some code-behind (though I would prefer pure XAML if possible since xaml code behind is tougher to implement in IronPython). • Can't override a global WPF style that is set by TargetType on a single specific control

- by Matt H.
I have a style applied to all my textboxes, defined in a resource dictionary.. \ The fontsize and fontstyle properties are bound to a special user settings class that implements iNotifyPropertyChanged, which allows changes to font size and fontfamily to immediately propogate throughout my application. However, in a UserControl I've created (Ironically, the screen that allows the user to customize their font settings), I want the font size and fontfamily to remain static. No matter what I try, my global font settings override what I set in my user control: <UserControl x:Class="ctlUserSettings" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:R2D2" Height="400" Width="600"> <Grid> <Grid.Resources> ... etc... <StackPanel Margin="139,122.943,41,0" Orientation="Horizontal" Height="33" VerticalAlignment="Top"> <TextBox Style="{x:Null}" FontSize="13" FontFamily="Tahoma" HorizontalAlignment="Left" MaxWidth="500" MinWidth="350" Name="txtReaderPath" Height="Auto" VerticalAlignment="Top" /> <TextBox Style="{x:tbxStyle}" Margin="15,0,0,0" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Name="txtPath" Width="43" Height="23" VerticalAlignment="Top">(some text) </StackPanel> I've tried setting Style to {x:Null}, setting custom font sizes inline, and setting a style in the resources of this control. None take precedence over the styles in my resource dictionary. As you can see, I show a sprinkling of all the things I've tried in the XAML sample above... What am I missing?

• Datagrid using usercontrol

Hello I am fighting with this problem: I have a usercontrol which contains a textbox and a button (the button calls some functions to set the textbox's text), here is the xaml: <UserControl x:Class="UcSelect" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" x:Name="Control1Name" <Grid x:Name="grid1" MaxHeight="25"> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition /> <ColumnDefinition Width="25"/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="25"/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <TextBox x:Name="txSelect" Text="{Binding UcText, Mode=TwoWay}" /> ... </Grid> And here the code behind: Partial Public Class UcSelect Private Shared Sub textChangedCallBack(ByVal [property] As DependencyObject, ByVal args As DependencyPropertyChangedEventArgs) Dim UcSelectBox As UcSelect = DirectCast([property], UcSelect) End Sub Public Property UcText() As String Get Return GetValue(UcTextProperty) End Get Set(ByVal value As String) SetValue(UcTextProperty, value) End Set End Property Public Shared ReadOnly UcTextProperty As DependencyProperty = _ DependencyProperty.Register("UcText", _ GetType(String), GetType(UcSelect), _ New FrameworkPropertyMetadata(String.Empty, FrameworkPropertyMetadataOptions.BindsTwoWayByDefault, New PropertyChangedCallback(AddressOf textChangedCallBack))) Public Sub New() InitializeComponent() grid1.DataContext = Me End Sub Private Sub pbSelect_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.RoutedEventArgs) 'just demo UcText = UcText + "!" End Sub End Class The UserControl works fine when used as a single control in this way: <local:UcSelect Grid.Row="1" x:Name="ucSingle1" UcText="{Binding FirstName, Mode=TwoWay}"/> Now I wanted to use the control in a custom datagrid column. As I like to have binding support I choosed to derive from DataGridtextColumn instead of using a DataGridTemplateColumn, here is the derived column class: Public Class DerivedColumn Inherits DataGridTextColumn Protected Overloads Overrides Function GenerateElement(ByVal oCell As DataGridCell, ByVal oDataItem As Object) As FrameworkElement Dim oElement = MyBase.GenerateElement(oCell, oDataItem) Return oElement End Function Protected Overloads Overrides Function GenerateEditingElement(ByVal oCell As DataGridCell, ByVal oDataItem As Object) As FrameworkElement Dim oUc As New UcSelect Dim oBinding As Binding = CType(Me.Binding, Binding) oUc.SetBinding(UcSelect.UcTextProperty, oBinding) Return oUc End Function End Class The column is used in xaml in the following way: <local:DerivedColumn Header="Usercontrol" Binding="{Binding FirstName, Mode=TwoWay}"></local:DerivedColumn> If I start my program all seems to be fine, but changes I make in the custom column are not reflected in the object (property "FirstName"), the changes are simply rolled back when leaving the cell. I think there must be something wrong with my GenerateEditingElement code, but have no idea ... Any Help would really be appreciated Regards Klaus

• Binding Silverlight UserControl custom properties to its' elements

- by ghostskunks
Hi. I'm trying to make a simple crossword puzzle game in Silverlight 2.0. I'm working on a UserControl-ish component that represents a square in the puzzle. I'm having trouble with binding up my UserControl's properties with its' elements. I've finally (sort of) got it working (may be helpful to some - it took me a few long hours), but wanted to make it more 'elegant'. I've imagined it should have a compartment for the content and a label (in the upper right corner) that optionally contains its' number. The content control probably be a TextBox, while label control could be a TextBlock. So I created a UserControl with this basic structure (the values are hardcoded at this stage): <UserControl x:Class="XWord.Square" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" FontSize="30" Width="100" Height="100"> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White"> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="*"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto"/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="*"/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <TextBlock x:Name="Label" Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="1" Text="7"/> <TextBox x:Name="Content" Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="0" Text="A" BorderThickness="0" /> </Grid> </UserControl> I've also created DependencyProperties in the Square class like this: public static readonly DependencyProperty LabelTextProperty; public static readonly DependencyProperty ContentCharacterProperty; // ...(static constructor with property registration, .NET properties // omitted for brevity)... Now I'd like to figure out how to bind the Label and Content element to the two properties. I do it like this (in the code-behind file): Label.SetBinding( TextBlock.TextProperty, new Binding { Source = this, Path = new PropertyPath( "LabelText" ), Mode = BindingMode.OneWay } ); Content.SetBinding( TextBox.TextProperty, new Binding { Source = this, Path = new PropertyPath( "ContentCharacter" ), Mode = BindingMode.TwoWay } ); That would be more elegant done in XAML. Does anyone know how that's done?

• How to bind DataTable to Chart series?

- by user175908
Hello, How to do bind data from DataTable to Chart series? I get null reference exception. I tried binding with square brackets and it did not worked either. So, how to do the binding? Thanks. P.S: I included DataGrid XAML and CS which works just fine. Converting data to List<KeyValuePair<string,int>> works good but it is kinda slow and is unnessesary trash in code. I use WPFToolkit (the latest version). XAML: <Window x:Class="BindingzTest.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="MainWindow" Height="606" Width="988" xmlns:charting="clr-namespace:System.Windows.Controls.DataVisualization.Charting;assembly=System.Windows.Controls.DataVisualization.Toolkit"> <Grid Name="LayoutRoot"> <charting:Chart Title="Letters and Numbers" VerticalAlignment="Top" Height="400"> <charting:Chart.Series> <charting:ColumnSeries Name="myChartSeries" IndependentValueBinding="{Binding Letter}" DependentValueBinding="{Binding Number}" ItemsSource="{Binding}" /> </charting:Chart.Series> </charting:Chart> <DataGrid Name="myDataGrid" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="0,400,0,50" ItemsSource="{Binding}" AutoGenerateColumns="False"> <DataGrid.Columns> <DataGridTextColumn Header="Letter" Binding="{Binding Letter}"/> <DataGridTextColumn Header="Number" Binding="{Binding Number}"/> </DataGrid.Columns> </DataGrid>  </Grid> CS: public partial class MainWindow : Window { public MainWindow() { InitializeComponent(); } DataTable GenerateMyTable() { var myTable = new DataTable("MyTable"); myTable.Columns.Add("Letter"); myTable.Columns.Add("Number"); myTable.Rows.Add("A", 500); myTable.Rows.Add("B", 400); myTable.Rows.Add("C", 500); myTable.Rows.Add("D", 600); myTable.Rows.Add("E", 300); myTable.Rows.Add("F", 200); return myTable; } private void GenerateButtonClicked(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { var myGeneratedTable = GenerateMyTable(); myDataGrid.DataContext = myGeneratedTable; myChartSeries.DataContext = myGeneratedTable; // Calling this throws "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" exception } }

• Flex - Problem with auto resizing datagrid

- by Marty Pitt
Hi All I'm trying to create a datagrid which will resize vertically to ensure all the renderers are displayed in full. Additionally, Renderers are of variable height Renderers can resize themselves Generally speaking, the flow of events is as follows : One of the item renderers resizes itself (normally in response to a user click etc) It dispatches a bubbling event which the parent datagrid picks up The DataGrid attempts to resize to ensure that all renderers remain visible in full. I'm currently using this code within the datagrid to calculate the height: height = measureHeightOfItems(0, dataProvider.length ) + headerHeight; This appears to get an incorrect height. I've tried a number of variations including callLater ( to ensure the resize has completed so measure can work correctly), and overriding meausre() and calling invalidateSize() / validateSize(), but neither works. Below are 3 classes which will illustrate the problem. Clicking the button in the item renderers resizes the renderer. The grid should also expand so that all of the 3 renderers are shown in their entirety. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Regards Marty DataGridProblem.mxml (Application file) <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="vertical" xmlns:view="view.*"> <mx:ArrayCollection id="dataProvider"> <mx:String>Item A</mx:String> <mx:String>Item B</mx:String> <mx:String>Item C</mx:String> </mx:ArrayCollection> <view:TestDataGrid id="dg" dataProvider="{ dataProvider }" width="400"> <view:columns> <mx:DataGridColumn dataField="text" /> <mx:DataGridColumn itemRenderer="view.RendererButton" /> </view:columns> </view:TestDataGrid> </mx:Application> view.TestDataGrid.as package view { import flash.events.Event; import mx.controls.DataGrid; import mx.core.ScrollPolicy; public class TestDataGrid extends DataGrid { public function TestDataGrid() { this.verticalScrollPolicy = ScrollPolicy.OFF; this.variableRowHeight = true; this.addEventListener( RendererButton.RENDERER_RESIZE , onRendererResize ); } private function onRendererResize( event : Event ) : void { resizeDatagrid(); } private function resizeDatagrid():void { height = measureHeightOfItems(0, dataProvider.length ) + headerHeight; } } } view.RendererButton.mxml <mx:HBox xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"> <mx:Button width="50" height="50" click="onClick()" /> <mx:Script> public static const RENDERER_RESIZE : String = "resizeRenderer"; private function onClick() : void { this.height += 20; dispatchEvent( new Event( RENDERER_RESIZE , true ) ); } </mx:Script> </mx:HBox>

• Keyboard navigation in typical WPF Business Line Application

- by Guge
I have a WPF business line application with a tabbed userinterface, menus and toolbars. The application must be navigable through a keyboard, some users like to minimize mouse use. I have thrown together the included XAML sample to illustrate the problem of keyboard navigation. Using the tab key I can only get to the menu, and then to the toolbar. I have tried various attached properties for KeyboardNavigation and FocusManager, but I have not succeeded in the following goals: Navigate to the contents of the first tabpage using the keyboard. Disable tab key navigation from tabpage to menu and toolbar. Change tabpage using Ctrl-Tab. <Window x:Class="WpfApplication4.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="MainWindow" Height="408" Width="569" > <DockPanel> <Menu DockPanel.Dock="Top"> <MenuItem Header="_File"> <MenuItem Header="Open"/> </MenuItem> <MenuItem Header="_Edit"></MenuItem> </Menu> <ToolBarTray DockPanel.Dock="Top"> <ToolBar> _Search <TextBox Name="SearchBox" Width="80"></TextBox> Search </ToolBar> </ToolBarTray> <StatusBar DockPanel.Dock="Bottom"> Statusbar here </StatusBar> <TabControl> <TabItem Header="File 1"> <WrapPanel> Click <CheckBox>Check</CheckBox> <Slider Minimum="0" Maximum="100" Width="150"/> </WrapPanel> </TabItem> <TabItem Header="File 2"> </TabItem> <TabItem Header="File 3"> </TabItem> </TabControl> </DockPanel>

• Referencing both an old version and new version of the same DLL (VB.Net)

- by ckittel
Consider the following situation: WidgetCompany produced a .NET DLL in 2006 called Widget.dll, version 1.0. I consumed this Widget.dll file throughout my VB.Net application. Over time, WidgetCompany has been updating Widget.dll, I never bothered to keep up, continuing to ship version 1.0 of Widget.dll with my software. It's now 2010, my project is now a VB.Net 3.5 application and WidgetCompany has come out with Widget.dll version 3.0. It looks and functions almost identical to Widget.dll version 1.0, using all the same namespaces and type names from before. However, Widget.dll version 3.0 has many run-time breaking changes since 1.0 and I cannot simply cut over to the new version; however, I don't want to continue developing against the 1.0 version and therefore keep digging myself deeper in the hole. What I want to do is do all new development in my project with Widget.dll version 3.0, whilst keeping Widget.dll version 1.0 around until I find time to convert all of my 1.0 consumption to the newer 3.0 code. Now, for starters, I obviously cannot simply reference both Widget.dll (Ver 1.0) and Widget.dll (Ver 3.0) in Visual Studio. Doing so gives me the following message: "A reference to 'Widget.dll' could not be added. A reference to the component 'Widget' already exists in the project." To work around that, I can simply rename version 3.0 Widget.dll to Widget.3.dll. But this is where I'm stuck. Any attempts to reference types found in "the dll" leads to ambiguity and the compiler obviously doesn't have any clue as to what I really want in this or that case. Is there something I can do that gives a DLL a new "root" Namespace or something? For example, if I could say "Widget.dll has a new root namespace of Legacy" then I could update existing code to reference the types found in Legacy.<RootNamespace> namespace while all new code could simply reference types from the <RootNamespace> namespace. Pipe dream or reality? Are there other solutions to situations this (besides "don't get in this situation in the first place")?

• M-V-VM, isn't the Model leaking into the View?

- by BFree
The point of M-V-VM as we all know is about speraration of concerns. In patterns like MVVM, MVC or MVP, the main purpose is to decouple the View from the Data thereby building more flexible components. I'll demonstrate first a very common scenario found in many WPF apps, and then I'll make my point: Say we have some StockQuote application that streams a bunch of quotes and displays them on screen. Typically, you'd have this: StockQuote.cs : (Model) public class StockQuote { public string Symbol { get; set; } public double Price { get; set; } } StockQuoteViewModel.cs : (ViewModel) public class StockQuoteViewModel { private ObservableCollection<StockQuote> _quotes = new ObservableCollection<StockQuote>(); public ObservableCollection<StockQuote> Quotes { get { return _quotes; } } } StockQuoteView.xaml (View) <Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:WpfApplication1" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300"> <Window.DataContext> <local:StockQuoteViewModel/> </Window.DataContext> <Window.Resources> <DataTemplate x:Key="listBoxDateTemplate"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Symbol}"/> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Price}"/> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </Window.Resources> <Grid> <ListBox ItemTemplate="{StaticResource listBoxDateTemplate}" ItemsSource="{Binding Quotes}"/> </Grid> </Window> And then you'd have some kind of service that would feed the ObservableCollection with new StockQuotes. My question is this: In this type of scenario, the StockQuote is considered the Model, and we're exposing that to the View through the ViewModel's ObservableCollection. Which basically means, our View has knowledge of the Model. Doesn't that violate the whole paradigm of M-V-VM? Or am I missing something here....?

• Routed Command Question

- by Andrew
I'd like to implement a custom command to capture a Backspace key gesture inside of a textbox, but I don't know how. I wrote a test program in order to understand what's going on, but the behaviour of the program is rather confusing. Basically, I just need to be able to handle the Backspace key gesture via wpf commands while keyboard focus is in the textbox, and without disrupting the normal behaviour of the Backspace key within the textbox. Here's the xaml for the main window and the corresponding code-behind, too (note that I created a second command for the Enter key, just to compare its behaviour to that of the Backspace key): <Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300"> <Grid> <TextBox Margin="44,54,44,128" Name="textBox1" /> </Grid> </Window> And here's the corresponding code-behind: using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Input; namespace WpfApplication1 { ///
/// Interaction logic for EntryListView.xaml ///
public partial class Window1 : Window { public static RoutedCommand EnterCommand = new RoutedCommand(); public static RoutedCommand BackspaceCommand = new RoutedCommand(); public Window1() { InitializeComponent(); CommandBinding cb1 = new CommandBinding(EnterCommand, EnterExecuted, EnterCanExecute); CommandBinding cb2 = new CommandBinding(BackspaceCommand, BackspaceExecuted, BackspaceCanExecute); this.CommandBindings.Add(cb1); this.CommandBindings.Add(cb2); KeyGesture kg1 = new KeyGesture(Key.Enter); KeyGesture kg2 = new KeyGesture(Key.Back); InputBinding ib1 = new InputBinding(EnterCommand, kg1); InputBinding ib2 = new InputBinding(BackspaceCommand, kg2); this.InputBindings.Add(ib1); this.InputBindings.Add(ib2); } #region Command Handlers private void EnterCanExecute(object sender, CanExecuteRoutedEventArgs e) { MessageBox.Show("Inside EnterCanExecute Method."); e.CanExecute = true; } private void EnterExecuted(object sender, ExecutedRoutedEventArgs e) { MessageBox.Show("Inside EnterExecuted Method."); e.Handled = true; } private void BackspaceCanExecute(object sender, CanExecuteRoutedEventArgs e) { MessageBox.Show("Inside BackspaceCanExecute Method."); e.Handled = true; } private void BackspaceExecuted(object sender, ExecutedRoutedEventArgs e) { MessageBox.Show("Inside BackspaceExecuted Method."); e.Handled = true; } #endregion Command Handlers } } Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks! Andrew

• How to customize and reuse a DataGridColumnHeader style?

- by instcode
Hi all, I'm trying to customize the column headers of a DataGrid to show sub-column headers as in the following screenshot: I've made a style for 2 sub-column as in the following XAML: <UserControl xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:data="clr-namespace:System.Windows.Controls;assembly=System.Windows.Controls.Data" xmlns:primitives="clr-namespace:System.Windows.Controls.Primitives;assembly=System.Windows.Controls.Data" xmlns:sl="clr-namespace:UI" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" x:Class="UI.ColumnHeaderGrid" mc:Ignorable="d"> <UserControl.Resources> </UserControl.Resources> <data:DataGrid x:Name="LayoutRoot"> <data:DataGrid.Columns> <data:DataGridTemplateColumn HeaderStyle="{StaticResource SplitColumnHeaderStyle}"> <data:DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate> <DataTemplate> <Grid> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition/> <ColumnDefinition/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Border Grid.Column="0" BorderBrush="#FFC9CACA" BorderThickness="0,0,0,0"> <TextBlock Grid.Column="0" Text="{Binding GridData.Column1}"/> </Border> <Border Grid.Column="1" BorderBrush="#FFC9CACA" BorderThickness="1,0,0,0"> <TextBlock Grid.Column="0" Text="{Binding GridData.Column2}"/> </Border> </Grid> </DataTemplate> </data:DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate> </data:DataGridTemplateColumn> </data:DataGrid.Columns> </data:DataGrid> Now I want to reuse & extend this style to support 2-6 sub-column headers but I don't know if there is a way to do this, like ContentPresenter "overriding": Anyway, please help me on these issues: Given the template above, how to support more sub-column headers without having to create new new new new template for each? Assume that the issue above is solved. How could I attach column names outside the styles? I see that some parts, properties & visualization rules in the XAML are just copies from the original Silverlight component's style, i.e. BackgroundGradient, BackgroundRectangle, VisualStateManager... They must be there in order to support default behaviors or effects but... does anyone know how to remove them, but keep all the default behaviors/effects? Please be specific because I'm just getting start with C# & Silverlight. Thanks.

• XmlDataProvider and XPath bindings don't allow default namespace of XML data?

- by Andy Dent
I am struggling to work out how to use default namespaces with XmlDataProvider and XPath bindings. There's an ugly answer using local-name <Binding XPath="*[local-name()='Name']" /> but that is not acceptable to the client who wants this XAML to be highly maintainable. The fallback is to force them to use non-default namespaces in the report XML but that is an undesirable solution. The XML report file looks like the following. It will only work if I remove xmlns="http://www.acme.com/xml/schemas/report so there is no default namespace.   <Report xsl:schemaLocation="http://www.acme.com/xml/schemas/report BlahReport.xsd" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns="http://www.acme.com/xml/schemas/report"> <Service>Muncher</Service> <Analysis> <Date>27 Apr 2010</Date> 0:09 <Authoriser>Service Centre Manager</Authoriser> Which I am presenting in a window with XAML: <Window x:Class="AcmeTest.ReportPreview" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="ReportPreview" Height="300" Width="300" > <Window.Resources> <XmlDataProvider x:Key="Data"/> </Window.Resources> <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical" DataContext="{Binding Source={StaticResource Data}, XPath=Report}"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding XPath=Service}"/> </StackPanel> </Window> with code-behind used to load an XmlDocument into the XmlDataProvider (seems the only way to have loading from a file or object varying at runtime). public partial class ReportPreview : Window { private void InitXmlProvider(XmlDocument doc) { XmlDataProvider xd = (XmlDataProvider)Resources["Data"]; xd.Document = doc; } public ReportPreview(XmlDocument doc) { InitializeComponent(); InitXmlProvider(doc); } public ReportPreview(String reportPath) { InitializeComponent(); var doc = new XmlDocument(); doc.Load(reportPath); InitXmlProvider(doc); } }
