  • Has anyone gotten Plan9 working in VirtualBox?

    More than anything, I'm just curious to know if this is even possible, since Plan 9 isn't in the list of GuestOSes on the VirtualBox website. However, if someone out there has got it working, my specific question: Whenever I try to boot Plan9, either as a live cd or to install inside of VirtualBox, once the GUI loads all I get is a screen of garbage. I think I've tried just about every graphics driver combination at startup - specifically, even 640x480x8 in VESA mode didn't work. Any suggestions as to how I can load it?

    I'm looking to setup a quick and dirty network boot server to install xp on a beatup laptop that has a bad cdrom but the option to "network boot" (compaq pasario 700) 1) what is the diffrence between pxe and Ris 2) which one is most likely to be the one used on the laptop mentioned above 3) is there a windows program to run a boot server 4) what files will i need to have can i jut use the cd or do i need to rip it to files or and iso? thanks Rob

These images work pretty well, but when I try to import them in VMware I need to activate the copies again, because the virtual hardware they use is just to different. I want Images of different versions of windows 2000, xp, vista. Does anyone where I can download them, or do I need to build them from CD.

    Hitachi DFT hangs (it gets all the way to "Loading DFT" and hangs with a blinking cursor) when I use it on various computers (the latest computer to hang being a Dell Vostro 1000 laptop) and works on others.     I would like to be able to listen to any song I've listened once before. Sometimes I listen to a CD, then to a MP3, a portable music player, ipod, radio channel, online services. I think it must be possible to save an index online of all my music. This index must indicate where the music is stored and ultimately be able to retrieve that song from the location. Is there a service available who accomplishes this?

  • Dell XPS Problem

    Hi, Yesterday, my mom dropped her laptop to the floor and got the blue screen of death after trying to boot the system. I was able to start fedora live CD and get some of her stuff off the hard drive, but I cannot seem to be able to install Windows on it. The installation starts loading files and then the computer turns off. I am thinking that she might need a new hard drive. Any ideas?

    I am trying to solve the "Can't find hypervisor information in sysfs" problem when invoking "xm". I have found in some sites that the solution is to rename *10_linux* into *50_linux*, however if I do this, whenever I reboot my computer, the memtest starts (so I have to reset the previous grub configuration through a live cd). I am aware that it might be a silly question, but does anyone have a workaround?

    I need to connect a printer with a parallel port to a computer with only a USB 2.0 bus. I'd like to do so without lowering the USB 2.0 bus speed to USB 1.1. All the USB-to-Parallel adapter cable found so far seem to be rated as USB 1.1 and they come with a CD which presumably contains a necessary driver. I haven't purchased one and tested it out yet, but if so, would the cable's driver lower speed of USB 2.0 bus?

    After I upgraded from kernel 2.6.18 to 3.5.3 modeswitch started not to work for me. Although lsusb shows my usb modem, usb_modeswitch does not switch it. My system information is like below.   • After compiling PHP, I get mod_fcgid: error reading data from FastCGI server

  • On Linux, why does directory tab completion add a \ to a path starting with ~

    On my work scientific linux 6.2 machine, I often start typing in a directory like below and use tab completion to finish it: ~/mydir But when I hit tab, it becomes e.g. \~/mydirectory/ With an extra forward slash at the start. Why is this, and can I prevent it? It's a pain because using cd etc. doesn't work with the extra slash, I have to start from the actual home directory which is something like /home/username/ On these PCs.

  • Rebuilding OWA / Exchange 2003

    Anyone have any experience rebuilding OWA? I am under the impression that this KB contains the process http://support.microsoft.com/?ID=280823 under the section "Method 1: Reset the HighWaterMarks" I inherited an Exchange box that was never patched, and after getting up to date I'm getting some permissions issues. If anyone has any warnings about using the above process let me know. Alternatively, can I simply uninstall and reinstall OWA from the Exchange 2003 CD?
