• tomcat 5.5 startup script on Ubuntu server

  Can any one share their Tomcat startup script I am looking for a tomcat start up script on a Ubuntu machine. My Ubuntu is 10.04 server. The tomcat is 5.5.30. But the same script works if I do /etc/init.d/tomcat start or /etc/init.d/tomcat stop I have done update-rc.d tomcat defaults as it is a Ubuntu server but on reboot all of this fails to work.

I would like to be able to use them with service as Red hat distributions do. I checked /lib/lsb/init-functions.

• Monit - script not being executed as expected

  I'm working on a Windows 7 machine, having a VM for Ubuntu (image disk: 12.04-desktop-i386.iso). On the VM I installed Monit 5.3.2, and configured some processes and applications. So I created a script to run my application. This application should display some content on the screen (Im basically displaying two images, using Feh). The thing is: if I call my script through the command line, it runs ok, and display the images. But if I run through monit, it seems to be running ok, but it doesn't display the images.In the case I try to debug it (remote debug), then I can see the images. So I was supposing this could be some kind of configuration, but didn't find out what (even using the option -I wou'ldn't work).   Hi all, I've got a weird problem, (like always :p ) Okay: Situation: Windows 2003 domain with XP clients. With a GPO I'm running a VBS script on login to map a few drives. This works great on XP, but not on Vista. If I manually run the script after the user has logged on, it works. So I know the script works on Vista, it just doesn't run via the GPO. The user has admin privileges. I also have the same problem on Windows 7 RC1. So it must be related. • How to create custom content for nginx error 502 page, keep origin url on browser

  i'm trying to get custom language and message for nginx error page but keep url on browser.. not success for eg: i go to url : xaluan.com/aaa/bbb.html on the time server down.. nginx will show error 502. with the same url but custom message as my language. test 1. I created a custom page at /usr/local/nginx/html/205.html as following config but it show on web site when error is default nginx error at domain.com/50.html ( the content of webpage not same as i created) error_page 502 /502.html; location = /502.html { root /usr/local/nginx/html; } test 2.   Hi, I have setup a kannel SMS gateway on my FreeBSD 7.2 - the service works great. I'm now trying to setup a email2sms feature. For this i have created a system user called kannel and all mails are forwarded to this user. It then do a http request to the SMS gateway. The php-script works.   Similar to this post, I'd like to change my proxy settings using a script. However, it fails. When I am behind the proxy, IE does not connect to the internet. • Strange focus bug in Firefox (chrome vs content)

  Here is a strange bug I'm experiencing in Firefox: I can only use either the chrome, or the content, not both at the same time! For example, I can click on tabs and the toolbar icons, focus the search bar and write in it as well as the address bar, but if I try to click on anything in the content (eg a link or a textfield to write something), then nothing happens. The mouse pointer doesn't change either, it just stays a pointer when I hover over things, and the links I hover don't react either. But if I alt-tab to another program (or click on it in the taskbar), then back to Firefox, then I can use the area that I click on. So if I click somewhere on the webpage to get focus back to Firefox, then I can click on links and write things (like this text), but I cannot click on tabs or refresh or anything else in the chrome. I can't even click on the minimize, restore and close icons! To get focus back on the chrome I have to alt-tab to another program, and then click on the chrome to get back to Firefox to be able to use the chrome again. I've tried closing and starting it again, but the bug is still there. I have experienced this before, but I don't remember what I did to fix it. This bug seems to occur sometimes when I wake up the computer from standby, but I leave by computer in standby all the time, so that is not the only factor.

• Very long (>300s) request processing time on Apache Server serving static content from particular IP

  We are running an Apache 2.2 server for a very large web site. Over the past few months we have been having some users reporting slow response times, while others (including our resources, both on the internal network and our home networks) do not see any degradation in performance. After a ton of investigation, we finally found a "Deny from none" statement in our configuration that was causing reverse DNS lookups (which were timing out) that solved the bulk of our issues, but we still have some customers that we are seeing in the Apache logs (using %D in the log format) with request processing times of 300s for images, css, javascript and other static content. We've checked all Deny / Allow statements for reoccurrence of "none", as well as all other things we know of that would cause reverse DNS lookups (such as using "REMOTE_HOST" in rewrite rules, using %a instead of %h in our log format configuration) as well as verified that HostnameLookups is set to "Off". As an aside, we've also validated that reverse DNS lookups for folks having this problem do not time out - so I'm fairly certain DNS is not an issue in this case. I've run out of ideas. Are there any Apache configuration scenarios that someone can point me to that I might be missing that would cause request times for static content to take so long only for certain users? • Unable to specify parameters to cvlc in a script

  I'm creating a script that issues a few curl commands in order to access a time-protected mms stream link, then set up a relay using cvlc (vlc's command line interface) for my own use on an unencumbered player. The curl aspect of this is working, as I can run as a browser and curl side by side and get the same access url. (It's time locked meaning the stream will work forever, but you have to connect quickly or the URL will time out.) The very end of the script prints the command I will run, which is then followed up by "exec $CMD". When I echo $CMD I get: cvlc --sout '#standard{access=http,mux=asf,dst=0.0.0.0:58194}' mms://[...] Manually Copy/Pasting this command in, verbatim, works perfectly fine, but as part of a script, the cvlc execution output says: [0x9743d0] main interface error: no suitable interface module [0x962120] main libvlc error: interface "globalhotkeys,none" initialization failed [0x9743d0] dummy interface: using the dummy interface module...   whenever I want to install a new vim script to the linux server I'm working in , my typical workflow is as the following: surf the plugin's homepage in vim online using fireXXXX download a right version of the plugin to my laptop by click some highlighted link upload the downloaded plugin from my laptop to linux server using winscp which is really inconvenient. I don't know what is the magic behind this : I mean for the same hyperlinki click it in web browser I can let you download it but use wget plus the hyperlink in linux commandline will end up with nothing but error indication. hyperlink in web browser . otherwise I can get the link in web browser and then use wget or some similar tool to actually do the downloding. I try new cool vim scripts quite often , so you can imagin my dismay when have to repeat the tedious action all the time. So if anyone of you knows some tips which can let me downloading the vim scripts in a more "professional" way, I'll appreciate it a lot. post edit : My problem is not find a tool like wget or curl . The problem I met is quite specific to use these tools to download vim script. let's take http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=30 as an example, it's the normal place where one can get the script, at least for me. but I can't find an working url from this page that can feed to wget .

• How to use AND/OR Building Block content in a Word 2007 template

  I am creating a Schedule of Work template and am successfully using Developer Tab and Quick Parts to allow user to choose content on an "either/or" basis: either A; OR B; OR C; etc., essentially choose one option from many. One Building Block control, one paragraph, nice and clean. Now what I need to do but cannot seem to figure out, is how to allow user to choose content on an "and/or" basis: either A AND B; A OR B AND C; B AND D AND E OR F; etc., essentially choose several options from many on a variable basis. One Building Block control, maybe one paragraph, maybe three or more paragraphs. Not so clean. I thought of building choice options for all possible paragraph combinations, but I can have as many as 7 or 8 different paragraphs, and that solution quickly becomes unworkable. Multiple controls--some of which will be left unused doesn't work either, since I cannot find an easy way to have a "Choose or Delete" control that actually deletes if "Delete" is chosen. Recommendations are most welcome.

• WS2008 subst in Logon script does not "stick"

  I have a terminal server environment exclusively with Windows Server 2008. My problem is that I need to "map" a drive letter to each users Temp folder. This is due to a legacy app that requries a separate Temp folder for each user but which does not understand %temp%. So, just add "subst t: %temp%" to the logon script, right? The problem is that, even though the command runs, the subst doesn't "stick" and the user doesn't get a T: drive. Here is what I have tried; The simplest version: 'Mapping a temp drive Set WinShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") WinShell.Run "subst T: %temp%", 2, True That didn't work, so tried this for more debug information: 'Mapping a temp drive Set WinShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") Set procEnv = WinShell.Environment("Process") wscript.echo(procEnv("TEMP")) tempDir = procEnv("TEMP") WinShell.Run "subst T: " & tempDir, 3, True This shows me the correct temp path when the user logs in - but still no T: Drive. Decided to resort to brute force and put this in my login script: 'Mapping a temp drive Set WinShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") WinShell.Run "\\domain\sysvol\esl.hosted\scripts\tempdir.cmd", 3, True where \domain\sysvol\esl.hosted\scripts\tempdir.cmd has this content: echo on subst t: %temp% pause When I log in with the above then the command window opens up and I can see the subst command being executed correctly, with the correct path. But still no T: drive. I have tried running all of the above scripts outside of a login script and they always work perfectly - this problem only occurs when doing it from inside a login script. I found a passing reference on an MSFN forum about a similar problem when the user is already logged on to another machine - but I have this problem even without being logged on to another machine. Any suggestion on how to overcome this will be much appreciated.

  I have a server running a Virtual Desktop Managed Pool, what I would like to do is when a user logs in I would like a script to check the number of available VMs and if below a threashold add additional VMs to the pool. I don't think it would be appropriate to run this as a logon script inside the VM, I think there is a way to do this on the management side but I don't know the new scripting interface in Server 2012 R2 well enough to know which commandlets I should look for to schedule this. EDIT: I know System Center is perfect for this but I do not have a license and was denied when I asked for it to be added to the budget.

• Sever 2008 R2 Powershell Script runs manually, but not as a scheduled task

  I have a Powershell script that runs manually using the Powershell ISE; However, when run as a scheduled task using an administrator's credentials the task does not run with the expected results. The script: $request=new-object System.Net.WebClient $request.DownloadFile("...url...", "C:\path\to\file.csv") The administrator user has Full Control of both the script and the folder it is writing to. The url exists and responds in a reasonable time (<1s). If I run the task manually the status is 0x41301 ("Currently Running") until I eventually end it. I have set the task up using both of these methods: Start a Program: C:\path\to\PS.PS1 Start a Program: C:\windows\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe with additional options -noninteractive -command "C:\path\to\PS.PS1" Using option 1, the task history shows it has opened an instance of notepad.exe but never terminates it. Using option 2 it completes the task but doesn't download / create the file. I have used Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted as this is not a signed script. Any ideas?

• Hiding my location to websites with region-specific languages/content

  I just went to download Microsoft Secority Essentials and it enraged me as it redirected me to a site in my home language and not the default English. If I go to America, I don't want them to speak Swahili. It reminded me of all the other websites who try to do the same. I don't want my content in greek when I'm on vacation! I for one simply can't work on a computer unless the language is English (or unless there's a VERY good reason to change the language). Location aware content is only good for download mirrors, and even then I would rather pick from a list of countries myself. (or if you can't speak anything but your own language) I know websites get your location from your IP and ISP, but is there any way you can inhibit this behaviour on a browser level? Is there any Chrome/Firefox extension for it? Do I really have no choice but to hide my IP? There's all sorts of services that claim they're hiding your IP for free so that people can't log and trace your steps through the internet, but they're probably logging it themselves and making money off it. Why else would they be free? I've found that Firefox has an Option that says "Choose your preferred language when displaying pages". Haven't found anything for Chrome.

• Plesk command working in manual script, not in cronjob

  Hi, In order to install a hosting plan, I use Plesk's commands in SSH as specified in their official guide. When typed directly in SSH (Putty), it works perfectly. The line is as follows with obviously values hard coded when in CLI: /usr/local/psa/bin/domain --create '.$url.' -owner mynamehere -ip '.IP_SERVER_PLESK.' -status enabled -hosting true -hst_type phys -login '.$ftp_user.' -passwd '.$ftp_pw.' -www false -php true -php_safe_mode false -hard_quota 100M I then put that request in a php script that does other things after hosting is installed. Now for the weird part: when calling that script from CLI it also works fine, I do a ./myscript.php and it installs the hosting, then sends emails etc. However after I create a cronjob to have that same script called regularly, then the Plesk command fails. The cronjob is started in Plesk as */15 * * * * /usr/bin/php /home/scripts/myscript.php and it works fine for everything BUT the Plesk hosting install, that returns "Unable to read Control Panel configuration file" and therefore does not install the domain hosting. Still this is the same script that I call manually ! On that server are the PHP used to call a cronjob and the one used in CLI different ? What do I miss, help greatly appreciated ! Regards.

• Script apparently changing file permissions on Mac OS to 000

  I wrote a little shellscript that helps installing a web application. The script itself just downloads a zip archive, extracts it and changes the permissions of the extracted files to the one needed to run the webapp. The problem now is that some users reported that after running my script, all the permissions of every file in their home directory or even on their whole computer changed to 000 (except the actual unzipped files which do have the correct permissions). The only lines in my script actually doing IO are these: URL="http://foo.com/" FILENAME="some.zip" curl --silent "$URL$FILENAME" -o $FILENAME > /dev/null echo "Unzipping...\c" if unzip -oqq $FILENAME > /dev/null then chmod -R 777 app/tmp app/webroot app/Config/database* app/configuration* chown -R www:www * rm $FILENAME echo "\t\t\tOK" exit 0 else echo "\t\t\tERROR" exit 1 fi I seriously can't explain this to myself. How can this even be possible? It is entirely possible that the users accidentally ran the script in their home directory, but that still wouldn't explain why the permissions where set to 000, not www/777.

• Strange focus bug in Firefox (chrome vs content)

  Here is a strange bug I'm experiencing in Firefox: I can only use either the chrome, or the content, not both at the same time! For example, I can click on tabs and the toolbar icons, focus the search bar and write in it as well as the address bar, but if I try to click on anything in the content (eg a link or a textfield to write something), then nothing happens. The mouse pointer doesn't change either, it just stays a pointer when I hover over things, and the links I hover don't react either. But if I alt-tab to another program (or click on it in the taskbar), then back to Firefox, then I can use the area that I click on. So if I click somewhere on the webpage to get focus back to Firefox, then I can click on links and write things (like this text), but I cannot click on tabs or refresh or anything else in the chrome. I can't even click on the minimize, restore and close icons! To get focus back on the chrome I have to alt-tab to another program, and then click on the chrome to get back to Firefox to be able to use the chrome again. I've tried closing and starting it again, but the bug is still there. I have experienced this before, but I don't remember what I did to fix it. This bug seems to occur sometimes when I wake up the computer from standby, but I leave by computer in standby all the time, so that is not the only factor.

• What is an achievable way of setting content budgets (e.g. polygon count) for level content in a 3D title?

  In answering this question for swquinn, the answer raised a more pertinent question that I'd like to hear answers to. I'll post our own strategy (promise I won't accept it as the answer), but I'd like to hear others. Specifically: how do you go about setting a sensible budget for your content team. Usually one of the very first questions asked in a development is: what's our polygon budget? Of course, these days it's rare that vertex/poly count alone is the limiting factor, instead shader complexity, fill-rate, lighting complexity, all come into play. What the content team want are some hard numbers / limits to work to such that they have a reasonable expectation that their content, once it actually gets into the engine, will not be too heavy. Given that 'it depends' isn't a particularly useful answer, I'd like to hear a strategy that allows me to give them workable limits without being a) misleading, or b) wrong.

• Conflict between two Javascripts (MailChimp validation etc. scripts & jQuery hSlides.js)

  I have two scripts running on the same page, one is the jQuery.hSlides.js script http://www.jesuscarrera.info/demos/hslides/ and the other is a custom script that is used for MailChimp list signup integration.
