• Subclassing Satchmo's Category model, but then getting the error "'Manager' object has no attribute 'root_categories'"

  I'm using Satchmo as part of a website I'm currently building. At the moment I'm trying add more functions to the Satchmo Category class, but obviously I'm not going to make any changes to the Satchmo files. So, I thought that subclassing the Category class would give me a new class which contains all the Satchmo Category properties and methods while allowing me to add my own. However, either Python subclassing doesn't work like that, or I am doing it wrong. • WinForms app config manager is x86 and cannot reference assemblies that targets Any CPU

  Hi I'm using Win7 64x and Visual Studio 2010. I created a library/framework targeting Any CPU. Then I created a new WinForms project that uses that framework, leaving the default values of the wizard. I mean, I didn't change anything. When I reference my framework, VS cannot find the assemblies. If I go to the project properties, it is targeting Any CPU (as expected, I can change it if I want). But if I go to Configuration Manager, the only choice I have for that project is x86. And I guess that is the problem. I tried to add Any CPU as a new Target but I was unable to. Could someone help me? :) Thanks in advance!

• Paging doesn't work in the Joomla Article Manager in the admin section

  I inherited a Joomla site that is having a problem with the article manager in the admin section. The pagination doesn't work! If I click the page number, forward, back, or page size, nothing happens! So I found out that someone had previously installed the iJoomla SEO plugin, but it never worked so they removed it. I think it is incompatible with the version I have. I setup a local environment with almost the same setup (I have 5.2.11 vs the servers 5.2.13) with Wamp Server, and I found that some of the session variables are missing! When dumped via print_r(), the $_SESSION variable is missing the "com_content", "global", and "com_plugins" arrays! So I guess that is the reason that paging doesn't work, because the "com_content" array looks like it has paging info in it. (maybe I'm wrong) So I'm running Version 1.5.13 on PHP Version 5.2.13 Anyone know why this would happen? Thanks in advance!

  I am working on code re-factoring of configuration file loading part in PHP. Earlier I was using multiple 'ini' files but now I plan to go for single XML file which will be containing all configuration details of the project. Problem is, if somebody wants configuration file in ini or DB or anything else and not the default one (in this case XML), my code should handle that part. If somebody wants to go for other configuration option like ini, he will have to create ini file similar to my XML configuration file and my configuration manager should take care everything like parsing, storing in cache. For that I need a mechanism lets say proper interface for my configuration data where the underlying data store can be anything( XML, DB, ini etc) also I don't want it to be dependent on these underlying store and anytime in future this should be extensible to other file formats.

• taskbar-free window manager

  I'm looking for a window manager that is not based on the "standard" taskbar (which I find a poor idea and I'm completely tired of). I'm aware of tiling window managers and improvements in last versions of operating systems, but I can't find what I need. I suppose that any window takes the whole screen (or can be tiled), and I imagine switching between windows like that: on a hotkey or mouse hot zone the screen becomes a task switcher where tasks are organized in a somewhat convenient manner. Well, it's a bit like a taskbar with autohide, but I think there could be some more convenient ideas than simply stacking icons and descriptions... It is also supposed to be lightweight enough, for example to run on a netbook. Any suggestions?

• Spring Transaction Manager

  Hi. I have a j2ee application running on spring framework. I am implementing a transaction manager with AOP. It works fine. When an exception occurs in my method it is detected by my AOP configuration and rolls back the changes in the DB. But the problem is the code where you expect the error should not be surrounded with try-catch. When I suround it with try-catch it won't roll-back. But I need to do some stuffs like logging whenever there are errors and the only place I can think of placing it is in the catch block.

• Replacing compiz/metacity with openbox reduces workspaces to 1

  I like to use the GNOME desktop, but I prefer to replace its window manager with openbox, with 4 workspaces. However, when I run openbox --replace, the number of workspaces available drops to 1. If I go into obconf, workspaces is still configured to be 4 (~/.config/openbox/rc.xml shows the same). I can get the workspaces to reappear by changing the value in obconf to anything else, and then back to 4. I have just been dealing with this problem since Ubuntu 9.04 (now up to 10.10) since I don't reboot very often. But it's really annoying to have to reset my workspaces whenever I do have to reboot. Changing the value in rc.xml and running openbox --reconfigure does not seem to have any effect. So what is obconf doing that I'm not (sends a dbus message perhaps [EDIT: watching with dbus-monitor I see no messages when changing the workspaces value in obconf])? I was hoping there would be a cleaner way to change the window manager than just running openbox --replace at login. So my questions are: Is there a better way to specify an alternate window manager (i.e. a way that doesn't cause the workspaces to break)? If not, how can I automatically set the number of workspaces back to 4? Update: I finally got around to trying what I commented on MrShunz's answer (adding WINDOW_MANAGER=/usr/bin/openbox to ~/.gnomerc). But the effect is the same as openbox --replace.

• Asp.net Script manager conflicting with button

  Hi there. I'm working on an asp.net app and I have some controls that are created dinamically on the OnInit event. One of that controls is an asp button that has been working fine until now. When I add a ScriptManager to my page, that same button is unnable to postback. It's only working if a take the ScriptManager out. has anything like this ever appened to somebody else? Am I invalidating the page somehow? • installing glassfish on ubuntu karmic using synaptics package manager

  I'm trying to learn to use glassfish for the first time. My IDE is netbeans and I've installed the glassfish plugin for netbeans. I opened up synaptics package manager and typed in glassfish. My choices were imqv2 glassfish-activaton glassfish-mail glassfish-appserv glassfish-toplink-essentials glassfish-jmac-api glassfish-javaee I'm not sure what is in each package, or which package are needed. I can't seem to find anything that tells me anything descriptive about these packages. I've seen a lot of tutorials on how to install glassfish, but I'd prefer to use apt-get / synaptics to install glassfish so that syntactics can take care of updating.

• Windows 7 caches FTP credentials?

  On my remote maschine i have an iis 7.5 (win server 2008) and set up an ftp site with iis manager authentication. I then did active directory user isolation and isolated my users to physical folders according to their names. So far, so good. I can access with ftp cliens from everywhere with different test accounts that i previously set up in the iis manager auth. Every user connects to its own folder. When i now tested with windows 7 as a client i did the following. Explorer - computer - right click - add network address - the ip of my remote maschine - user1 - password1 Perfect - it works. I now want to connect with user2. So I deleted this network address and set up a new connection, but with user2 (or even anonymous) instead. Now the strange thing: Windows doesn't even ask me for a password again. It just connects me to the folder of the user1. I already disabled ftp caching in the IIS and i disabled the user1 account in IIS manager authentication! Still, if i set up a network connection with this windows 7 it connects to the folder user1 . No matter which username i use (anonymous, administrator, user2,...). And if i connect with other ftp clients or other computers it all works perfectly. So I assume that this one windows somehow caches the credentials... But then, why does the IIS still accepts this credentials even if i disabled this user1 account??? Thanks.

• How to retrieve path for a file embedded in Resources (Resource Manager)

  I am trying to retrieve file path for a html file that is embedded in resource (resx file) in VS2008 C# project. I want to give path of this file to native webbrowser control (PIEHtml) to be able to navigate (DTM_NAVIGATE) in my application. I know I can pass the string to this control using DTM_ADDTEXTW but since html text size is so big, I dont want to pass string to the control. I need to somehow extract the file path for this html file embedded inside resource manager. I tried using but this does not give the file path of html inside assembly: private ResourceManager resManager = new ResourceManager("AppName.FolderName.FileName", System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly()); this.lbl.Text = resManager.GetString("StringInResources"); and also read Retrieving Resources in Satellite Assemblies but it did not solve my problem. • Career development as a Software Developer without becoming a manager.

  I’m a developer, I like to write new exciting code everyday, my perfect day at work is a day that when I wake up, I know that I have to write some code that I haven’t done before or to use a new framework/language/platform that is unknown to me. The best days in the office is when a project is waiting for me to architect or write. In my 15 years in the development field, I had to in order to get a better salary to manage people, not just to lead developers, to actually manage people. Something that I found out when I get into a management position is that I’m not that good at managing people, and not afraid to say it. I do not enjoy that part of the job, the worse one, takes time away from what I really like. Leading developers and managing people are very different things. I do like teaching and leading developers in a project. Yet most people believe, and is true in most companies, the way to get a better salary is to be promoted to a manager position. In order to advance in your career you need to let go of the everyday writing code and become a supervisor or manager. This is the path for developers after they become senior developers. As you get older and your family grows, the only way to hit your salary requirements is to advance your career to become a manager and get that manager salary. That path is the common in most companies, the most intelligent companies out there, have learned that promoting good developers mean getting a crappy manager and losing a good resource. Now scratch everything I said, because as I previously stated, I don’t see myself going to the office everyday and just managing people until is time to go home. I like to spend hours working in some code to accomplish a task, learning new platforms and languages or patterns to existing languages. Being interrupted every 15 minutes by emails or people stopping by my office to resolve their problems, is not something I could enjoy. All the sudden riding my motorcycle to work one cold morning over the Redlands Canyon and listening to .NET Rocks podcast, Michael “Doc” Norton explaining how to take control of your development career without necessary going to the manager’s track. I know, I should not have headphones under my helmet when riding a motorcycle in California. His conversation with Carl Franklin and Richard Campbell was just confirming everything I have ever did with actually more details and assuring that there are other paths. His method was simple yet most of us, already do many of those steps, Mr. Michael “Doc” Norton believe that it pays off on the long run, that finally companies prefer to pay higher salaries to those developers, yet I would actually think that many companies do not see developers that way, this is not true for bigger companies. However I do believe the value of those developers increase and most of the time, changing companies could increase their salary instead of staying in the same one. In short without even trying to get into the shadow of Mr. Norton and without following the steps in the order; you should love to learn new technologies, and then teach them to other geeks. I personally have learn many technologies and I haven’t stop doing that, I am a professor at UCR where I teach ASP.NET and Silverlight. Mr Norton continues that after than, you want to be involve in the development community, user groups, online forums, open source projects. I personally talk to user groups, I’m very active in forums asking and answering questions as well as for those I got awarded the Microsoft MVP for ASP.NET. After you accomplish all those, you should also expose yourself for what you know and what you do not know, learning a new language will make you humble again as well as extremely happy. There is no better feeling that learning a new language or pattern in your daily job. If you love your job everyday and what you do, I really recommend you to follow Michael’s presentation that he kindly share it on the link below. • iScsiPrt error event ID 5

  Event Log: "Failed to setup initiator portal. Error status is given in the dump data." This is being recorded every 3/100's of a second. We are using MS iSCSI Initiator on Windows Server 2003, Dell 2970 w/4GB (PAE). I am sure that this was configured by Dell initially. I have no idea what changes or mods were made since the company installed this machine until now. (I'm a new User so the lovely and vibrant screen images had to be removed. They were quite pretty and I am sure you would have been very moved and appreciative of them.) It appears that everything is installed correctly and the 5TB bound volume is accessible but I have never worked with iScsi before so I plead total ignorance. In searching I have found this to be a fairly sparce and bland documented subject. I'd like two things... First, to get rid of the error msg being logged. MS says it can be ignored if everything is working but it chews up resources logging it and I don't feel comfortable about any errors on my servers. I want to correct whatever is causing this problem. Secondly, being totally green to this, I would like to confirm that the setup is optimized and we are taking advantage of all features available. Although there are 3 NIC's in this machine it appears that the initiator is only configured for the Broadcom BMC5708C NetXtreme II on our 10.90.1.#, the other 2 NICS are 1GB on the 192.168.0.#. Would additional targets improve performance? If someone who is experienced in configuring the Microsoft iScsi Initiator can help I would really appreciate it since, as I mentioned, everything I have come across has not been of any value at all. • MMC crashes on Windows Server 2008 x64 - Exchange console, event viewer

  Help! I don't know what happened; this server has been very reliable but suddenly began having problems with a particular .NET 2.0 web site simply hanging - it wouldn't load at all. However, another ASP.NET site was still fine. Reinstalling the site didn't fix it, nor did deleting and re-creating the application within IIS. Trying the event viewer was met with a horrifying "Microsoft Management Console has stopped working". Some Googling led me to believe the .NET framework was the problem. I found a tool called the .NET cleanup tool - http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/pages/8904493.aspx - which cleaned out .NET entirely. I reinstalled .NET 1.1 and 3.5 (which installed 2.0 and 3.0 as well). Using the .NET verification tool - http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/pages/8999004.aspx - I believe these have all installed ok. However, my server is in worse shape now. The Exchange 2010 Management Console crashes with an MMC error and now my other (previously reliable) .NET web app now hangs on loading too. I thought I should use Computer Management to remove and re-add the application and web server roles but sure enough, MMC crashes. If anyone can help I will be extremely grateful. Thank you !

• Why do I get a DegradedArray event with mdadm

  Hello Just so we're clear on what's happening: I bought 4 new sata 2 drives, with the intent of using them in a raid5 all drive are fully recognised by both my bios and my linux box (gentoo) I created a raid5 array, fiddled a bit with it to understand how it works, how to monitor ect At some point, this triggered a degradedarray event, even though the array is brand new. I tried to stopping the array and recreating a new array with the same drive but the new array starts degraded too. here is what I used to create it mdadm --create -l5 -n4 /dev/md/md0-r5 /dev/sdb /dev/sdd /dev/sde /dev/sdf here are the output from my /proc/mdstat and mdadm --detail --scan **mdstat** Personalities : [raid0] [raid1] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4] [raid10] md127 : active raid5 sdf[4] sde[2] sdd[1] sdb[0] 4395415488 blocks level 5, 64k chunk, algorithm 2 [4/3] [UUU_] [>....................] recovery = 2.8% (41689732/1465138496) finish=890.3min speed=26645K/sec unused devices: <none> **detail** ARRAY /dev/md/md0-r5 metadata=0.90 spares=1 UUID=453e2833:81f22a74:64188b84:66721085 As such I have a couple questions: does a raid5 array always start in degraded mode at first ? why does sdf have the number 4 between bracket instead of 3, why does it see a spare disk and why is the 4th drive marked with _ instead of U ? (bad configuration ?) How can I recreate the array from scratch, do i have to format each drive on its own before recreating it ? • Comprehensive solution for managing patches, event viewing, change management, inventory, etc

  I'm looking for a solution that incorporates most or all of the following: Patch Management, Server event viewing/tracking, AD change management, ticketing and internal/external kb, remote access - ability to shadow user sessions or create new ones, imaging, and inventory. Our environments contains Windows Servers and ESXi Hosts (We're not completely virtual, but we're moving that direction). Various Cisco and Linksys switches and firewalls. This is a tall order, and I don't know if it can be done on a reasonable budget. • Network Services disabled (not starting) on Windows XP

  I am currently running Windows XP Service Pack 3 on my system. But today, when I failed to connect to the internet, via a LAN cable, I realized that almost all of the vital network services had stopped functioning. Any attempts to start it through services.msc gives me the following message: Could not start the DNS Client Service on Local Computer Error 1068: The dependency service group failed to start All my software or services that are related to networking have stopped functioning, for example, Windows Firewall is turned off permanently, so is my Avast Anti-Virus' service of Real Time Shields and Web Shield. When I insert the LAN wire into my laptop, it registers itself, but this is what I get when I do a ping localhost C:>ping localhost Unable to contact IP driver, error code 2 Moveover, with ipconfig I get this : Windows IP Configuration An internal error occurred: The request is not supported. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help. Additional Information: Unable to query host name On some further poking around, I saw that none of the "NETWORK SERVICE" process in task manager, except svchost.exe were running. Also, when I first opened the task manager, I saw some 20 processes running with username column empty for most of them. With some search in Google, I found out that these services were important, DHCP DNS Net logon Network connection Network location Awareness TCP/IP Net BIOS Helper none of them, except Network Connections are working, they do not start. The event viewer of my system shows a bunch of 7000 and 7001 event errors. I have tried re installing the network driver, booting in safe mode with networking and tried to enable those services mentioned above. I had disabled System Restore some time back, so I have no restore points for my system. I tried a lot of things from Google searches but none of them worked. Also, with such a long list of issue, I am a little confused as to what should I search on the internet. :( One more thing I would like to mention, previous morning, my anti-virus Avast detected a RootKit buried deep in my system folders. It was removed, but maybe this was a problem caused by the root kit. I did run a boot-time scan but no viruses were found. Please please please advice. Is formatting and re-installation of Windows my only option?

I don't understand why this is evening happening and the only message I get via the terminal is "Cannot load image ..." then a bunch of random characters. My libraries are for sure working, but now I am not sure why the image is not loading. My image is in the same directory as with my .h and .cpp files. This is an irritating problem that keep coming up for some reason and is always a problem to fix it. I import my libraries via my own directory "locals" which contain many APIs, but I specifically get SFML, and done appropriately as I am able to open a window and many other stuff.

• How to implement drag and drop in Flex Grid control?

  I have a simple Grid control with some buttons that I want to be able to move around. The code below does work, but it takes a lot of effort to actually do the drag&drop and it is not clear where the drop will happen. I have to move the mouse around a lot to get to a state where the drop is not rejected.
