  • Generating jquery 'rules' from business model to UI in asp.net mvc

    Hi all, I've had a good look around and am certain that there's no matching question on SO, so here goes. Has anyone created a 'helper' method on their model that generates jquery (or plain javascript) rules validation dynamically, based on the criteria/rules that are contained within the object and taken from a repository (i.e. DB). What i'm thinking of is a discrete set of partial views (and associated models) that have rules at the business logic 'level' and rather than (or in combination with) validating the rule(s) at postback, translating the same rules into tightly focussed jquery methods that work identically at client (js) and server (c#) levels. I can see benefits here re performance. Also, the rules definitions could be created in a single place (in c#) and the jquery generated off of that, thus allowing single edits to update both code streams. I appreciate that there would be limitations imposed by language specific contstraints but the general principle could be quite interesting if used appropriately. I'm also aware that testibility could be an issue when using two different language structures and hoping to achieve similar test outcomes - but those aside... any thoughts or experiences of similar out there?? cheers jimi

  • jquery touch punch - draggable on ipad

    i am starting to work with the jquery touch punch extensions in order to allow draggability on ipad, but i am getting tripped up right away. probably something terribly dumb on my part. the draggable example from the developer works fine on my ipad: http://furf.com/exp/touch-punch/draggable.html but not for me: http://danshuta.com/touchpunch/ this works fine in my desktop browser, but on the ipad it just focuses on the block and scrolls the entire page as i drag, as if it were just an image or other normal embedded object. as this is what happens normally with jquery/ui on ipad, this makes me think it is not loading or otherwise ignoring the "punch" code from my site (though if i host the jquery files on my site via the same path, those load and function fine in desktop browser). here's the entire code, very basic: <!DOCTYPE html> <html lang="en"> <head> <meta charset="utf-8" /> <title>Touchpunchtest</title> <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery.min.js"></script> <script src="http://code.jquery.com/ui/1.8.17/jquery-ui.min.js"></script> <script src="js/jquery.ui.touch-punch.js"></script> </head> <body> <div id="draggybox" onclick="void(0)" style="width: 150px; height: 150px; background: green;"></div> <script>$('#draggybox').draggable();</script> </body> </html> what am i missing?!

  • jQuery onkeyup event in textarea that does not fires when nothing change.

    I was thinking to a function that check the key value pressed, and accept only the most common characters, canc, enter, ... because i need it only for basic ascii character set (not ñ, c, chinese chars, ...). Or function that after every keyup checks if value has changed. But really jQuery doesn't have an event handler for this situation? Oh, it should be cross-borwser.

  • Cascading dropdownlist jQuery does not retain value on post back.

    I have two html select server control on an add data form page. the user selects a value in the first html select server control and then values are populated into the second html select server control with jquery. The problem is when a a user clicks the save button and the page posts back, the values are no longer in the drop down list populated by jQuery. The drop downlist is a html server control, shouldn't it retain the values on post-back? I know they got a plugin but I can't find where to actually download it from http://datatables.net/plug-ins/sorting I believe I need this file: dataTables.numericComma.js yet I can't find it anywhere and when I download datatables it does not seem to be in the zip file.     Hi, trying to get a jQueryUI datepicker working within a jQuery blockUI dialogue but it appears behind the blockUI dialogue, i.e. in the blanked out area, and when trying to choose a date it disappears but the value not posted. js code is simply; $('#datePicker').datepicker({ inline: true }); against which is part of the blockUI markup to create the dialogue.   • i can't seem to get jquery ui multiselect plugin work with ajax

    i take a regular multiselect listbox and convert it to a jquery ui multiselect listbox by calling this: $(".multiSelectMe").multiselect(); As per the API, i call this method in the return of an ajax function $(".multiSelectMe").multiselect("select", "Item 1"); but nothing seems to happen. i can't figure out a way to have this programatically add items within an ajax call. i was thinking there was maybe another "refresh" method or something like that but i can't find any.

    I want to make a form that will use jquery to submit a list of keyword to a php file, this file could take a lot of time to load depending on the size of the keywords list. What I want to do is to load the php response into a div or container in real time without using iframes. All the ajax request I know have to wait until the request has finished before having access to the response, I need to get access to that response even when it hasn't finished so I can update the progress in real time.

    when using the jquery ui autocomplete, i would thought there would be an option to force only valid key entry based on the list. Is there anyway to not allow invalid keys so you can only enter valid items in the list? if my list has (csharp, java, python) i can start typing "abcds . ." and it lets me type it in. I want only valid entries to be allowed.

    Hi, I am trying to start writing some simple jQuery plugins and for my first try if figured I would write something that does nothing else but apply .first & .last classes to passed elements. so for instance i want to ultimately be able to: $('li').firstnlast(); So that in this html structure: <ul> <li></li> <li></li> <li></li> <li></li> </ul> <ul> <li></li> <li></li> </ul> it would create the following: <ul> <li class="first"></li> <li></li> <li></li> <li class="last"></li> </ul> <ul> <li class="first"></li> <li class="last"></li> </ul> What i have written so far in my plugin is this: (function($) { $.fn.extend({ firstnlast: function() { $(this) .first() .addClass('first') .end() .last() .addClass('last'); } }); })(jQuery); However the above only returns this: <ul> <li class="first"></li> <li></li> <li></li> <li></li> </ul> <ul> <li></li> <li class="last"></li> </ul> It seems that passing only the li into the function it will look at all li elements on the entire page and then apply the classes to it. What I need to figure out is how i can basically make the function 'context aware' so that passing the above li into the function would apply the classes to those lis inside of the parent ul, not to the first and last li on the entire page.     for some reason i don't like any of the themes that are on the jquery ui themeroller page (i am looking for something on a business website and these all look either bleak or too corny). I wanted to see if there were other sites where people have uploaded or voted on other themes to view and download. I know i can tweak my own but first wanted to see if anyone has done this already with a better artistic eye.

    Is there a way to disable "eager" validation using the jquery.validate plugin? Either through an option in the script or as a hack? "Eager" validation kicks in once the form has been validated once - after that, invalid fields are validated onfocusout. I want to disable this behavior, and change my forms to only be validated when the submit button is pressed. I don't mind hacking through the validate script itself also, so if that's what the solution requires that's acceptable.
