  I'm after a regex that puts spaces around each "-" in a string, eg. 02 jaguar-leopard, tiger-panther 08 would become 02 jaguar - leopard, tiger - panther 08 Note that if the "-" already has spaces around it, no changes are to be made, eg. 02 jaguar - leopard, tiger - panther 08 should not become 02 jaguar - leopard, tiger - panther 08 The number of hyphens are unknown in advance. There are two fields in the renamer GUI, "Expression" and "New name" to provide inputs. • How to disable low disk space notification? (Gnome 3, Ubuntu 12.04)

  I've got an SSD drive for root and /home, and a larger HDD for storage. The storage disk is almost full, and there's a low disk space warning on startup. The warning doesn't have any "don't show again" option, only "ignore" and "examine". It also doesn't go away but sticks on the screen until the ignore button is clicked, so it's very annoying in addition to being competely unnecessary. I tried unselecting the storage HDD in baobab's settings, but that didn't have any effect. I also tried gconf-editor, and looked for apps - gnome_settings_daemon - plugins - housekeeping, but there is no "plugins" under "gnome_settings_daemon". Only "gtk-modules" and "keybindings".   I am trying to make a game of Gorillas in c++ whose specification is somewhat like....... is : "In this game both players should select their position on a level scaled ground. Scale of the ground should be from 0 to 20 divisions, each division corresponding to 10 meters. Each player will enter an angle and initial velocity (limits of both should be defined) and the player will hurl a stone with this velocity at given angle. Stone will make a projectile and if it hits the other player then shooting player wins. A random effect of air should also be incorporated. Air will support one player and resist other. Velocity of air should be generated randomly, within some limits, and subtracted or added in the horizontal velocity of the stone. An arrow of suitable length shall represent air direction and velocity. The player who hits first wins." How do I display the trajectory of the stone????

  I am having an e-commerce site and current URL structure is like this: www.example.com/category1 [Category landing page] www.example.com/category1/sub-category [sub-category listing page] www.example.com/category1/sub-category/product-name [Product Details page] I am finding it difficult to identify from the URLs whether the URL is category landing page or a listing page or a product details page (primarily in Google Analytics). To solve this problem, I am thinking of adding qualifiers in the URL as follows: www.example.com/category1/cat-land [Category landing page] www.example.com/category1/sub-category/cat-list [sub-category listing page] www.example.com/category1/sub-category/product-name/prod-details [Product Details page] Original URLs would be redirected to new URLs using 301 permanent redirect.   I'm looking for a design pattern that addresses the following situation: There exists a list of tasks that must be processed. Tasks may be added at any time. Each task is wholly independent from all other tasks. The order in which tasks are processed has no effect on the overall system or on the tasks themselves. Every task must be processed once and only once. The "main" process which launches the task processors may start and stop without warning. When stopped, the "main" process loses all in-memory data. Obviously this is going to involve some state, but are there any design patterns which discuss where and how to maintain that state? Are there any relevant anti-patterns? Named patterns are especially helpful so that we can discuss this topic with other organizations without having to describe the entire problem domain.

  Possible Duplicate: What to do with random pages after a 301 redirect? Currently, we are working on modifying the contents of a website of one of our products. Since we are re-positioning the product, we would like to delete roughly 50% (around 200) of the pages of the website. My questions, in terms of SEO are: Would it have a negative effect if Google suddenly sees the large page drop? Is it OK to provide a 301 to the start page of the website for all removed pages?

• Performance impact of the new mtmalloc memory allocator

  I wrote at a number of occasions (here or here), that it could be really beneficial to use a different memory allocator for highly-threaded workloads, as the standard allocator is well ... the standard, however not very effective as soon as many threads comes into play. I didn't wrote about this as it was in my phase of silence but there was some change in the allocator area, Solaris 10 got a revamped mtmalloc allocator in version Solaris 10 08/11 (as described in "libmtmalloc Improvements"). The new memory allocator was introduced to Solaris development by the PSARC case 2010/212. But what's the effect of this new allocator and how does it works? Rickey C. Weisner wrote a nice article with "How Memory Allocation Affects Performance in Multithreaded Programs" explaining the inner mechanism of various allocators but he also publishes test results comparing Hoard, mtmalloc, umem, new mtmalloc and the libc malloc. Really interesting read and a must for people running applications on servers with a high number of threads.

• How to clean launch a GUI app via the Terminal (so it doesn't wait for termination)?

  Some GUI apps launch cleanly via the Terminal command line. Some don't, and they cause the Terminal to wait for the app to terminate. ...and even then, some don't "release" the command line. The mysterious ampersand "&" suffix, seems to cause the terminal to put the process into the background... (but I'm not sure what happens there). Is there a way to launch an app via the Terminal, so that there is no "hang on" effect? ... just like launching something via F2. I'd like to have the command line available again, immediately (without something still in the background and writing out system message in the terminal).

• Get and set accessors do they protect different instances of a variable?

  The standard method of implementing get and set accessors in C# and VB.NET is to use a public property to set and retrieve the value of a corresponding private variable. Am I right in saying that this has no effect of different instances of a variable? By this I mean, if there are different instantiations of an object, then those instances and their properties are completely independent right? So I think my understanding is correct that setting a private variable is just a construct to be able to implement the get and set pattern? Never been 100% sure about this.

  I'm working on a pong game and have recently set up FBO rendering so that I can apply some post-processing shaders. This proceeds as so: Bind texture A to framebuffer Draw balls Bind texture B to framebuffer Draw texture A using fade shader on fullscreen quad Bind screen to framebuffer Draw texture B using normal textured quad shader Neither texture A or B are cleared at any point, this way the balls leave trails on screen, see below for the fade shader.   I have tried a number of ways of playing a fixed frequency sound (e.g. 1000Hz) and nothing works. I have downloaded "beep" and that makes no noise. I tried interfacing to pyao, and that had no effect. I tried interfacing to audiere, and get a runtime error indicating the library could not be found, despite installing it from the software centre. Any guidance for installation of appropriate libraries and relevant code would be most appreciated. I cannot generate .mp3/ .wav files for this, but need to generate the tones at run time. • Certain Keyboard shortcuts not working

  I have the logitech k800 keyboard but can't seem to get certain shortcuts working. I change in the keyboard shortcut settings volume up and down and it actually takes the key assignment but does not take effect when trying to use. After trying for a while I also tried to create a custom shortcut after with the command amixer -q sset Master 10%- Finally I tried changing the command to touch a file to see if it is actually responding but nothing. How can it take the key as an assignment in the shortcut settings but not to actually respond when pressing it. FYI other keys work like mute, next track etc. There is just 3 keys shortcuts not currently working. Thanks

  We are working on a jobs and skills website (similiar to Skill Pages) and are deciding on the names of categories. Rather than having loads of categories and sub-categories like, for example, Builder, Electrician, Carpenter etc, we would like to have more general and easier on the eye category names. So for example we have House, Computer, Education, Art etc. So a builder would be in category House and a few others. Will this style negatively effect our SEO and ranking? And if so, should we abandon and go back to traditional categories and sub-categories?

• How to limit concurrent file access on a Samba share?

  I have a Ubuntu 12.04 file server running Samba. There are 6 windows machines that access the server, as well as two people that will occasionally access files remotely. The problem that I am having is that the CAD/CAM software we are using doesn't seem to request file locks, meaning if two people open a file at the same time, the first person to close the file will get their changes overwritten if the second person saves the file. I tried changing the smb.conf to strict locking = yes but this doesn't seem to have any effect. File locking with excel seems to work fine, so I know that Samba is using the file locks...if they were put on the file in the first place. Is there a way (either in Samba or Ubuntu) to only allow one user to have a file open at a time? If not does anyone have any suggestions for managing a problem like this?

  My head hurts as I type this question. The reason for this? I've got two developers yelling behind me at the top of their voices while everyone else tries to get some work done. I've worked in three companies so far and I've noticed that developers refuse to make use of meeting rooms and instead feel the need to enter long drawn out conversations where they yell at each other. Any ideas on how to handle this? A "Please be quiet" doesn't seem to have any effect and my head is thumping, so I'll entertain any ideas.

• Why should I use a web framework's template language over python's templating options?

  I'm coming from a python CGI background and was wanting to move into something more contemporary and think I have decided upon web.py as the framework I would like to use. In regards to templating, previously I used formatted strings and the string.Template module to effect most of my templating needs. After reading through a few of the templating options I have heard mentioned, I began wondering what the main benefits of using something like the Django or jinja templating options over "native" Python templating options were? Am I just going to be replacing $tmpl_var with {{ tmpl_var }} and s.substitute(tmpl_var=value) with t.render(s), i.e., alternate syntax? or will I gain additional advantages from using these templating systems?

• JMeter: how to asign a single distinct value from CSV Data Set Config to each thread in thread group?

  I have to make a load test for a relatively large number of users so I cant realy use User Parameters pre-processor to parametrize each thread with custom user data. I've read that I should use CSV Data Set Config instead. However I run into a problem with how JMeter interprets the input of this Config. Example: I have a thread group of 3 threads and Loop Count:10 with one HTTP request sampler with server www.example.com and path: \${user}. The csv file (bullet is a single line in file) for CSV Data Set Config to extract the user parameter: 1 2 3 4 5 Expected output is that for thread 1-x the path of the request should be: \x. So the output file should consist of 10 samples per thread namely: for thread 1-1 : 10 requests to www.example.com\1 for thread 1-2 : 10 requests to www.example.com\2 for thread 1-3 : 10 requests to www.example.com\3 but instead i get requests to each \1 - \5 and then to EOF. Does anyone know how to achieve the expected effect with CSV Data Set Config in jmeter 2.9?

  I have a two hidden divs before my main site content, one with the login form and another with the signup form. I then have login and signup buttons within the page that use JQuery to show or hide these divs. I like the effect this setup offers, dropping down from the top of the page and pushing the rest of the content down. However, recently I have been getting serious about SEO and I am wondering if these divs have been affecting my SERP rankings. Basically, every non-logged page (everything bots see) has the same two display:none; divs at the top of the document flow. Is it bad? Should I re-engineer these forms and the way they are displayed?

• Impact of migrating home page from http to https on search results

  Guys - I've just had to change one of my site's home page to https from http. I had plenty links coming into the http page and was performing well in Google against many of my targeted search phrases. I did a 301 redirect from the http page to transfer the link juice to the https page (and to prevent duplicate content issues), but my search rankings have tanked which indicates no link juice has been transferred. My PR has vanished - which I'd expect - but I'm really surprised that the SERP rankings fell off the face of the earth. Anyone have any ideas how I can recover this. I've waited a couple of months since the changes took effect just in case Google was taking time to check it out.

  In a game I'm making in LibGdx, I wish to incorporate a ripple effect. I'm confused as to how I get access to the individual pixels on the screen, or any way to influence them (apart from what I can do with sprite batch). I have my suspicions that I have to do it through openGL, and it has something to do with apply a mesh? This brings me to my question, what exactly is a mesh? I've been working on my game for about half a year, and am doing great with the other aspects of the game, but I find this more advance stuff isn't as well documented. Thanks!

• Determining where to animate the map given a list of GeoPoints

  My android application loads some markers on an overlay onto a MapView. The markers are placed based on a dynamic list of GeoPoints. I want to move the map center and zoom into the area with most items. Naively, I can calculate the superposition of all the points, but I would like to remove the points that are very far from the mass of points from the calculation. Is there a known way to calculate this ? (e.g. probability, statistics .. ?)
