  • Windows XP install driver notification for AirCard

    A co-worker of mine is using an air-card. It prompted him to install software in the notification tray, but he clicked on the wrong thing and the icon went away without him installing that software. How can I get that icon back? He can't install the software then. I know that you can download the software from the site, but we did that and were having issues from that too. Restarting and trying again doesn't pop up the notification either. Thanks.

  • MacBook Pro 13 (mid 2010 model) - External Display Low Resolution

    I am trying to connect my ASUS VH242H (1920x1020), with my Macbook Pro. The laptop has a 320m nvidia and it should be more than enough to support an external display. I had my old laptop connected, (with a 9600mgt) and it worked fine.I am not mirroring the display I just want an extension ( if possible only the external display diplaying). Why is the external display is showing only the lower (1378x768) resolution? I am using this adapter: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002WUVAVE/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 Any help please?

Knowing of any standard/well-known 'gotchas' associated with each use-case would also be helpful. For example, I heard someone saying that a user with access to such a machine will automatically get access to both networks, which could be a security issue.   • Very Slow DSL (ethernet) speed

    I 'was' on opensuse 12.2 when my dsl speed was normal. Yesterday I switched from opensuse to ubuntu 12.04 and speed decreased. It came to range of 7-10-13-20-25-kbps. Then I switch to linux mint, and then to fedora. Still slow speed. When I was in ubuntu I disabled ipv6 but still no luck. Now I am in fedora but this time with DIFFERENT ISP. And still I am getting very slow sped. So my guess is this is nothing to do with os. What can be wrong? Is this problem of NIC? Does NIC speed decreases over time? Does NIC life ends over time as with keyboard or mouse? Help please All the os I used are 64 bit and my laptop is Compaq Presario A965Tu Intel Centrino DUal Core. Interesting thing to notice is I get normal speed while downloading torrent inside torrent client softwares. This slow speed issue applied to download from any web browser or installing software using terminal.

  • Wake-on-lan only works so many times

    I have Wake-on-lan configured on my Windows XP machine so that the computer will wake up from Standby. Waking the computer from Standby via network traffic seems to work a certain number of times, say 4 or 5, then it stops working. If I restart the computer it seems to reset this behavior so that I can use WOL a few more times before it starts working. I use the command "wol" on my other, Linux machine with the appropriate IP address and MAC address of the card. I looked at the network card to see if it had different lights when WOL worked and when it didn't. When it has a solid amber light where the ethernet cable connects, WOL seems to work. When it has a flashing amber light, WOL does not. It seems that the system seems to almost "shut off" the card when it falls to sleep, but I don't know if this is a function of time or number of standby/wakeups. I have a 3Com 3c920 network card. If I look at the properties in Device Manager, I have "Allow this Device to bring the Computer out of Standby" checked. In the Advanced tab I have anything related to RWU (Remote Wake Up) enabled. I also believe I have the appropriate settings in BIOS related to Remote Wake-Up and I have tried both S1 and S3 power configurations in the BIOS. Intuitively, I would think I would uncheck "Allow the Computer to turn off this device to save power", but doing so disables the "Allow this Device to bring the Computer out of Standby" option. Does anyone know what is happening here or if there is a way to fix it? I have an integrated network card; would getting one that goes into a slot be better? I am running Windows XP on a Dell Optiplex GX240 with a 3Com 3c920 network card.

    Very IMPORTANT and INTERESTING UPDATE: Due to some reason I just thought to do a complete new setup and this time I decided to again have openSUSE plus ubuntu. So I first reinstall lubuntu and then I installed OpenSUSE 12.2 (64 bit). Now, my DSL speed is working very normal and fine on opensuse. So this is very scary. Is it possible for any operating system to manipulate my NIC so that it will work fine only on that operating system and not on another os? Regarding positive thinking and not being paranoid, what is it that makes ONLY suse to get my NIC to work at normal speed but ubuntu can not do it? Not even fedora? Not even linux mint?   • windows hosted networok on windows 8

    my sister is using Acer laptop, that has an intel WLAN card and supports windows hosted network(checked in command prompt).Am using the basic way using netsh wlan command also, then am using netsh start wlan command.The hosted network gets created and it could b seen in "Network and Sharing Center" as the . I also went to Device manager, selected WLan card, made sure"allow this device to wake computer from sleep" is selected. Now I went to the newly created , clicked properties, and under sharing enabled allow this to be shared(but I am not able to select The name of the wifi my sis wants to share (in this case her college wifi name, LEts say QP4,Ethernet and Local Area connection are the only two option that are coming). Also the SSID name is not being shown in her mobile nor when I click the tower icon at the tray area,Any suggestions on what might be going wrong?She is using windows 8. Should I look for updated drivers? Her laptop is only 6 months old, i don't think the drivers are outdated. Any advice shall be appreciated.

  • Linux will not activate wireless after device has been re-enabled

    Using a Eee 900A netbook by Asus. By pressing Fn + F2, I can disable or enable the wireless chip on the netbook, a blue LED indicates the status. I've been able to connect to wireless networks just fine with this netbook. However, if the wireless chip ever becomes disabled, I have to reboot to get my network connection back. This generally happens when suspending. For some reason the LED will be off and I have to hit Fn + F2 for it to light up again. However, after doing so, Linux will not reconnect to the network. It simply changes the wireless status from "wireless is disabled" to "device not ready". Even worse, I've recently had issues with the chip being enabled at boot, thus making it nearly impossible to get connected. I've searched around on-line but haven't found much of anything useful on this. This happens on all kinds of different distros including Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook, EeeBuntu 4 beta, Jolicloud and Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook. Edit I noticed this question is getting a lot of views. To give a quick update, I never did resolve this issue with the given distro's. However, I'm currently running Ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition and this issue has gone away.

  • Lotus Notes 8.0.2 - how to stop all mail showing in customized view

    I am using Lotus Notes 8.0.2 at work and unfortunately the admin restricted changing default folders design. Only little changes are possible (e.g. change columns order) and even them are resetted each time I restart the client. I've created a new view with my desired column order, changed sorting etc. I have only one problem - even though I changed the "view" preference to show messages from the inbox folder only, I keep seeing all mail, regardless of the folder they are placed into. I'm not a Lotus expert and don't really know how to code. Yet, I am surprised as I see in a "simple view" this: uses '(ChangeMeetingType), ...' form AND In folder 'Inbox' And in Formula view only this: SELECT ((Form = "(ChangeMeetingType)") | (Form = "(Return Receipt)") | (Form = "Return Receipt") | (Form = "(ReturnNonReceipt)") | (Form = "ReturnNonReceipt") | (Form = "Memo") | (Form = "Memo") | (Form = "MemoEA") | (Form = "Reply") | (Form = "Reply") | (Form = "Reply With History") | (Form = "Reply With History") | (Form = "To Do") | (Form = "Task") | (Form = "_Document Memo") | (Form = "$DocMemo") | (Form = "Word.   • Failover NIC with Windows 7 running Apache Server

    I have a Apache Server running on a Windows 7 Desktop for a internal website (Intranet). I am trying to figure out how I can make this system as failover safe as possible. One thing I want to do is use the 2nd NIC card that is currently disable. I only have one gateway address to my router. I do not have any computer running a Server O/S. If NIC1 crashes by chance(just humor me!), how could NIC2's IP take on the host name (I have mapped in host file) . I don't really care if the static IP of NIC2 changes seeing that the host name is the only thing I need. Could I add two IP's to the host file, with same host email and maybe create some script that will run IF NIC 1 fails? OR is there any failover software that will do this for me?

  • Network card dies when trying to wake up laptop from sleep

    I have a Dell XPS 1640 laptop (aka Dell Studio XPS 16), running Vista. Whenever the laptop wakes up from sleep, my Broadcomm LAN card immediately dies. Any attempt to access it completely locks up whichever program I use to access it. There appears to be no way to re-awaken the card, other than rebooting; note that Vista does not even shut down properly if some program is waiting for the card. So far, I have tried the following: Disabled the "allow your computer to shut down this device to save power" in the device properties. This had no effect. Attempted to disable and then enable the card in the device properties. No effect. Tried ipconfig /renew: this locks up ipconfig to the point where I can't even kill its process. Force-install updated drivers from broadcomm: no effect. Does anyone have any other ideas ?

  • How do I view source in Outlook 2010?

    This question has already been asked here; but the answer only gives advice on how to view the email header not the actual html source of the email. There is another question here, which I think may be caused by the same issue as mine, but does not have a satisfactory answer (the answer does not work for the person who posted the question) If I right click on the bottom of an email I can see the option to 'view source' but when I select it nothing happens. I have done a bit of research and came across a post for a much earlier version of Outlook that suggested adding something into the registry. I applied this advice, but it made no difference; but I'm pretty sure that applying this solution correctly for my circumstances will do the trick. When I first received this machine it had a demo version of UltraEdit installed. I uninstalled UltraEdit and installed Notepad++ instead. I am convinced that there is a registry entry that is pointing to UltraEdit as the default view for 'view source' in my email and I need to replace this entry with a reference to Notepad or Notepad++, but I don't know how to do this. Any suggestions?

  • Network card shuts down when stressed

    I have a network card that functions fine with light use, but quits functioning after heavy use. I replaced it with a brand new one and still have the same issue, also updated drivers. It is a wired D-Link card. The Internet seems fine for a small amount of web browsing but when I run a bandwidth test it starts out fast and slows quickly until the card completely quits; I have a constant ping of the gateway going while I run this and it starts timing out after a couple seconds into the speed test. The card will stay on and the data light on it still flashes some but I cannot ping the gateway or anything else until the computer is rebooted. When I boot into safe mode I can browse and run the speed test fine with no problems. I am guessing that this is probably some program that is loading in regular mode but not safe mode that is causing the issue? I have very limited software (turned off av and firewall) on the computer but I am thinking that I'll just have to start eliminating start-up programs and see if that helps. This is on Windows 7 if that makes any difference. Anyone had a similar issue or have any other suggestions/ideas for narrowing down this problem?

  • VMWare Player 5.0 Upgrade - Bridged Networking No Longer Works

    I've been using VMWare Player 4 on my Windows 7 PC, running my VMs under a bridged networking configuration without any problem. I settled on bridged networking two reasons... I often use VMs to host web applications for test purposes. I never could get NAT to work for me anyway, but no love lost, considering reason #1. Now that I've upgraded to VMWare Player 5, the situation has completely reversed. In other words, bridged networking no longer works at all, and NAT does. Has anyone else come across this? Any ideas on getting bridged networking to work again? This happens with both Windows and Linux guest OSes. VMWare Tools has been fully updated. I've tried the usual vmnetcfg.exe utility fix, to no avail.

Is there anyway to get this from inside XP? I looked through device manager but haven't seen anything that would tell me.   • Acer Aspire 7750-6801 windows 7 Home Premium x64 not charging properly [closed]

    I have an Acer Aspire 7750-6801 laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OS. The issue is that it will only charge sometimes when plugged in. I thought it might be a hardware issue, so I tried charging with the laptop off, and it works fine. Also when in Linux, or any other environment other than Windows, it also charges fine. The intermittent charging issue ONLY presents itself when in Windows. I've tried the following: Open Device Manager Under 'Batteries->', I uninstalled 'Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery' Then re-installed using 'Scan for hardware changes' Still no luck. It's quite urgent, any help would be appreciated as I am totally at a loss...

    im looking to setup a site with 49 edge switches connected by fiber to a central switch. 3 VLANs will be setup to handle data, telephony, and streaming media. each edge switch should have provision for 2 SFP modules for failover, and the core switch needs to have the provision to handle this failover. i'm getting lost on the Cisco site with their specs and recommendations. if anyone could suggest a suitable model number for the core switch and the edge switch, it would be really appreciated.

    I have a Mac, which runs Mac OS X 10.6 or Ubuntu 9.10 or Windows XP (Multiboot). Solution can be for any of the systems, whatever works better. I have two ISPs, one can be accessed via Wi-Fi, one can be accessed via LAN. In Mac OS X I can define the priority, which network to choose first. But what I wish to do is to load-balance with both networks. I don't want to buy extra hardware. I have some unused Wi-Fi routers if this would help.     What are the best practices to be followed to update the contents of a listactivty by a background thread (Async Task) ? 1) Am calling the notifyDataSetChanged() to update the adapter as soon as i manipulate the contents of the adapter but still my app force closes while the user scrolls or click on the list. Any pointers to prevent this would be very helpfull. Logcat: java.lang.IllegalStateException: The content of the adapter has changed but ListView did not receive a notification. 2) Where exaclty should i update contents of the listactivity ? inside the doInBackground() or onProgressUpdate()? 3) Am experiencing regular crashes when the user clicks the list item. So will disabling click events on the listactivty during the background operation solve the problem ? If so am not sure how to remove or set item click listeners dynamically to the listactivity. Please instruct me on the too. 4) I dont think blocking all ui interactions during the background async task execution is the only way to solve the problem. I know there is a simple way of doing this but need some help. Thanks in advance.   • Force Blank TextBox with ASP.Net MVC Html.TextBox

    I recently ran into a problem with the following scenario: I have data with a parent/child data with a one-to-many relationship from the parent to the child. I want to be able to update parent and existing child data AND add a new child record all in a single post. I don't want to create a model just to store the new values. One of the things I LOVE about MVC is how flexible it is in dealing with posted data.  If you have data that isn't in your model, you can simply use the non-strongly-typed HTML helper extensions and pass the data into your actions as parameters or use the FormCollection.  I thought this would give me the solution I was looking for.  I simply used Html.TextBox("NewChildKey") and Html.TextBox("NewChildValue") and added parameters to my action to take the new values.  So here is what my action looked like: [HttpPost] public ActionResult EditParent(int? id, string newChildKey, string newChildValue, FormCollection forms) {     Model model = ModelDataHelper.GetModel(id ?? 0);     if (model != null)     {         if (TryUpdateModel(model))         {             if (ModelState.IsValid)             {                 model = ModelDataHelper.UpdateModel(model);             }             string[] keys = forms.GetValues("ChildKey");             string[] values = forms.GetValues("ChildValue");             ModelDataHelper.UpdateChildData(id ?? 0, keys, values);             ModelDataHelper.AddChildData(id ?? 0, newChildKey, newChildValue);             model = ModelDataHelper.GetModel(id ?? 0);         }        return View(report);     }    return new EmptyResult(); } The only problem with this is that MVC is TOO smart.  Even though I am not using a model to store the new child values, MVC still passes the values back to the text boxes via the model state.  The fix for this is simple but not necessarily obvious, simply remove the data from the model state before returning the view: ModelState.Remove("NewChildKey"); ModelState.Remove("NewChildValue"); Two lines of code to save a lot of headaches.
