• SD Card Reader not working in Ubuntu 12.04

  I have a read many other posts on this issue and believe that Ubuntu 12.04 is not even recognizing my SD Card Reader as just that: Computer Model: Metabox (Australian builder of Clevo laptops) / Clevo P150EM OS: Ubuntu 12.04 (64 Bit) CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3720QM CPU @ 2.60GHz HD: 120GB Intel 550/520MB/s SSD According to the people who built my computer, the specs of the SD Card reader in my comp are as follows: Manufacture: Realtek Semiconduct Corp.   I just bought an HP Pavilion g6 laptop and I installed Natty Narwhal alongside Windows 7. In Windows 7, my WiFi works perfect but in Ubuntu it absolutely (no matter what I do) won't detect my home WiFi network. • Graphics performance of 945GME

  Edit: Since setting Appearance - Visual Effects up to a stunning "Normal", I now get ~35 FPS in glxgears right after login, with nothing else running :( I'm getting terrible graphics performance in NeverWinter Nights (native with SoU+HotU+CEP2) on my Eee PC 1005HAB. Even with all graphics settings (including the "advanced" ones) at minimum I get about 2-10 FPS, depending on the scene. Firefox is really sluggish as well - Changing tabs often takes a second, scrolling is laggy, and typing this I notice the delay between pressing keys and seeing the text on screen. The rest of the OS is running OK, although general performance seems to be even worse than my old Eee PC 900. glxgears gives about 60 FPS, which is apparently as it should be (synchronized with the monitor refresh rate). Bugs like Launchpad #252094 and the instructions for Reverting the Jaunty Xorg intel driver to 2.4 are old enough that I'm afraid following the instructions would render the system unusable. • What can I do about rsync of large files killing my laptop's wifi connection

  When I run a rsync to backup my home folder over the network like so: rsync -avhz --progress --delete /home/dbdean/ [email protected]:/home/backups/david/ I seem to have problems with my quite large .VirtualBox/HardDisks/Windows XP.vdi file. Occasionally the wifi will silently fail (the transfer stops, and any other network access is broken). If I reconnect the wifi to my network before the transfer times out, it happily keeps going (and other network access is back), but I can't just leave it unattended most of the time, as I have to keep an eye on it. I'm guessing this is probably a bug in the wireless card related to a particularly high sustained volume of network usage, but I'm not really sure where to start with diagnosing this problem so that I can provide a good bug report. Or it could be something else, I guess. Any help would be appreciated. My network card is an Atheros Communications Inc.   Like this post I am also trying to complete this heroku tutorial I have installed and used everything (node.js, npm, express) successfully until I got to Foreman. • Network really slow with TL-WN951N wireless card

  I literally just installed ubuntu and it seems to be working great except the network is deadly slow. I'm running a TL-WN951N wireless card which can download at about 600-700 KB/s in windows but in Ubuntu the max speed it seems to get is around 5KB/s. I guess I should note that my WAP is only wireless-G but like I said, I can get much better speeds in Windows. I'm testing the speeds by downloading files from here: http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/test/ Anyone have any idea? I saw some people recommend downloading drivers and compiling them myself but I'm really really new to all of this so would appreciate someone babying me through it so I don't brick my computer! • Can I remove all-caps and shorten the disclaimer on my License?

  I am using the MIT License for a particular piece of code. Now, this license has a big disclaimer in all-caps: THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF... ... I've seen a normally capitalised disclaimer on the zlib license (notice that it is above the license text), and even software with no disclaimer at all (which implies, i take it, that there is indeed a guarantee?), but i'd like some sourced advice by a trusted party. I just haven't found any. GNU's License notice for other files comes with this disclaimer: This file is offered as-is, without any warranty. Short and simple. My question therefore: Are there any trusted sources indicating that a short rather than long, and a normally spelled rather than capitalised disclaimer (or even one or the other) are safely usable in all of the jurisdictions I should be concerned with? If the answer turns out to be yes: Why not simply use the short license notice that the fsf proposes for readme-files and short help documents instead of the MIT License? Is there any evidence suggesting this short 'license' will not hold up? For the purposes of this question, the software is released in the European Union, should it make any difference.

• Development environment to manage multiple Oracle databases

  I am in an enterprise environment where we have applications that need to run against multiple Oracle databases. Developers may need to manage multiple vintages of these databases to support different test data or diagnose bugs against different versions of the code. Right now, we have a limited set of test environments set up on "real" Oracle servers within the data center. We juggle these among development and QA groups and there is a lot of conflicts and inefficiencies that arise because of it. I am taking a look at Oracle Express Edition which would allow me to spin up a local Oracle database. This is similar to the workflow I most often see with SQL Server. Devs work on their location machine until they are ready to integration and then they push their DB changes to integration / QA environments. However, from what I read it seems that Oracle XE only supports one database instance at a time. So if I have an application that utilizes two different databases, I can't have both of them running on my local machine. Is that correct? Does Oracle Standard or Personal editions get around this limitation? If I had one of those installed locally, how difficult would it be to get multiple databases working on the same development machine? How do dev shops handle developing against Oracle where they need to be using several different Oracle instances for their applications?

  I think back to the days of the first versions of Visual Studio (when it was called Visual Studio .NET, remember?) and I think about how far Microsoft has come with this IDE. It really is the best IDE on the market. There is so much to this IDE it is amazing. It now can really handle managing your complete software application development lifecycle. For me, it is (besides Windows 7) the best and most successful product Microsoft has developed. You can obviously get this now and it is available on MSDN and some other places: MSDN Visual Studio Trial Editions Visual Studio 2010 Express Editions (free) You will also find great info at the Visual Studio Developer Center. Some other interesting tidbits of info: JetBrain’s ReSharper 5.0 has been released for VS2010 Oracle will have the new Oracle Dev Tools for VS2010 within one month - http://bit.ly/9gC9NE Visual Studio 64-bit - Why there is no 64-bit version of VS - http://bit.ly/dhhwAj In installing this version of Visual Studio, if you have been working on the previous RC builds, then you are going to want to uninstall these previous editions of the 2010 product. You can do this through the Add Remove Programs dialog and you are going to want to select the appropriate item from the long list of Visual Studio items. • Missing Wireless access point

  I have an: Ubuntu 12.04 with proprietary Boardcom STA Wireless driver installed BCM43224 802.11a/b/g/n wireless card TP-LINK TD-W8101G 54Mbps Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router Yesterday before I went to sleep, I still connect to my wireless access point, this morning when I start my laptop I don't see it in the list - there are some neighbors listed but not mine. The WLAN is green, with my old Nokia E72, I still see my access point with 100% signal. I have tried to restart my laptop and turn the firmware off/on by the switch but no help. I have read the WirelessTroubleShootingGuide but I can do anything. • Firefox 15 hangs with Ubuntu kernel update

  I recently ran updates and it told me that in order to get those updates I had to update my kernel. I did that and also updated Firefox to 15. Since then Firefox hangs/gray screens sites I go to. This lasts anywhere from 5-10 seconds to 2-3 minutes. I have restarted Firefox with all add-ons disabled but it still did the same thing. I found a bug report on Launchpad that sounded like what was happening with me, but I haven't received any error codes, just the hanging/frozen screens. Also it seems that it ups my CPU making the rest of Ubuntu lag while Firefox is hung. I would guess the cause is a conflict between the updated kernel and the updated Firefox, but I'm still fairly new at Ubuntu and not sure where to go from here. Is there anything else to try? • Wireless not detected on an hp Pavilion g6

  I just bought an HP Pavilion g6 laptop and I installed Natty Narwhal alongside Windows 7. In Windows 7, my WiFi works perfect but in Ubuntu it absolutely (no matter what I do) won't detect my home WiFi network. • Ubuntu 12.04 LTS , Dell d410 output to External Monitor/TV with docking

  I am not able to see the video output on My external monitor/TV after installing 12.04 LTS. I had the same issue with 11 versions also. This issue does not happen on 10.04 LTS version. This is my setup. Dell latitude D410 with Intel Mobile 915 GM/910GML express controller using the Dell docking station Connecting to my 42inch TV with DVI (from Docking) to HDMI cable (on TV) If i close the lid, some times i am able to see the video output on TV, but the resolution is making the fonts so small, i cannot even see it and when i click displays option to change the resolution, the output goes off completely and it is shown now on the laptop screen. one time, i got the output on both the screens, but i am not able to replicate that scenario even after trying the Fn+F8 key option on my laptop. earlier some time back when i ran version 11.x ubuntu, i was able to get the output on both the screens (basically mirrored output) with large font resolution on my TV using the monitor Test tool as mentioned here :http://www.bigfatostrich.com/2011/05/solved-ubuntu-11-04-broken-external-display/ The problem with this approach is that i have to do it every time i restart the machine and more over the video output is present on both the screens (mirrored), which is of no use. As i stated before, this does not happen with 10.04 LTS. With 10.04 LTS my laptop screen is off automatically and the output is seen on TV/external display. Can anyone share any options that i can try? How can we achieve the behavior of 10.04 LTS with respect to the External display on 12.04 LTS . Thankyou very much for your help in advance.
